This review is for the rooftop bar/restaurant. While the size of the portions could be a bit bigger, perhaps, the quality and taste are on point. The drinks are also pelasantly alcoholic, unlike in other places around the island - good value for money. Overall, can recommend the evening meal and a beverage in that place, you wont regret it.

Had an amazing meal at sexy fish at the Z hotel last night - so much so that we decided to book in from Christmas day dinner. The food was of really high quality, and surprisingly well priced. However the location of the restaurant (on a pier overlooking the sea), and the level of service we received from all the staff really impressed us. We are looking forward to heading back in a couple days!

The reviews are all true! Its the best hotel on the island and everyone knows it. Its the only Hotel on Nungwi Beach that has a pool overlooking the sea and is DIRECTLY ON THE BEACH.The staff is amazing. So sweet, very thoughtful and extremely attentive. When its busy things may occasionally get a bit slow, but that can be expected anywhere.The food is fabulous and well made. The rooms are neat and comfortable, with very attentive maid & turndown service.You may occasionally get a whiff of sewer smell around the property. I dont know whats up with that, but its only with and very infrequently.Being right on the beach has got to be the best part though. The vendors on the beach dont harass the guests of the hotel while theyre on the beach. They walk right up to you otherwise if youre not a hotel guest which is EXTREMELY ANNOYING.And if you happen to be a gorgeous girl, good luck babe 💕 You will be endlessly pestered.The community is a tourist community and they were hit really bad by the absence of tourists during covid and are only just now recovering.This means theres A LOT more vendors on the beach who are desperate to sell their products and they will let you know that. This was the only downside for me.You will otherwise have an absolutely FANTASTIC time and if youre lucky enough to stay at Z hotel, youll never forget it 💫💫

My husband and I cannot say enough great things about Z Hotel. First, the hotel is stunning! The grounds are perfectly kept and the views from the restaurants and rooms are just spectacular! Second, the staff of the hotel is friendly and the best of the best! Special shout outs to the restaurant staff and the spa technicians (best facial and massage that I have ever had). Lastly, the food and variety of food choices are great. Thank you for a great stay! We cannot wait to come back!

The drinks are good and every meal we had was really tasty and big enough. The prices are higher than in the most restaurants in the area but the quality of food is also high so I think its acceptable.Im leaving my original review here as a reference. I dont know what happened since our last visit, but if the owners has changed, please let me know. We didnt stay at the hotel and the restaurant at the rooftop is really nice, it has beautiful views, the food is tasty and the staff is great. Unfortunately, I cannot give them more stars because today, we were not allowed in without disinfecting our hands. So we left.While I welcome the possibility of disinfecting hands, forcing people to do it is unacceptable. Our doctor, and he is not the only one, says that unnecessary disinfection of hands could make the situation worse, because disinfectants kill the natural microflora that protects you. It may even cause micro cracks in the skin which make the situation even worse. I repeat that we welcome the possibility to disinfectant our hands because there are situations when its definitely a good idea. But we are not willing to put chemicals on our recently washed hands.Dear managers. Im really sorry for the one star rating. Im ready to change my review if you relax your potentially dangerous policy. We are here for a very long time and we used to enjoy your great restaurant. Great hotel with a fantastic location just by the sea! Lots of things happening all day long on the beach and on the sea so not for those looking for a quiet stay! We liked it a lot!!

Stayed here for 4 nights in a sea view room at the end of a three week holiday in Tanzania.The room was absolutely beautiful with a great view. So clean and really nicely decorated. It was slightly small but that was ok.The pool area has plenty of space and is really well maintained. Nice fresh towels and excellent service especially from Khalifa who constantly checks if you are ok and if you need anything, he made our stay so relaxing and gave 5 star service.The gardens are beautiful and even the bathrooms are really cool.All staff are so friendly and helpful, we loved speaking with them. We also spoke with the owner Keith who is from the UK , it is clear that the staff are very well looked after and respected and the hotel is very well managed.The food in Cinnamon is delicious and we ate by the pool or by the beach most days for lunch, we also had dinner in the restaurant but service was quite slow and food not as great as lunch. Cocktails are delicious! We drank too many and Sexy Fish is a really nice more upmarket restaurant, great seafood! The breakfast has a wide selection buffet with loads of choice and beautiful fresh fruit but the hot menu is not the best, sometimes a bit underdone, we liked the local Swahili options the best!The spa is wonderful, we had Swedish massage and the therapists were excellent, very high quality and the spa was so relaxing.The beach is very beautiful , white sand and clear water but there are not so many sun loungers on the beach so you have to be up early to get these. Would be nice to add more but understand that may not be possible.My only criticism is that there is not the option for water refills, I think it’s very important that the hotel put these in place and remove plastic bottles from the rooms and menus and encourage guests to refill in different areas. This would make a big impact as there is a lot of single use plastic being used everywhere which is so bad for the beach and the ocean. We would regularly pick up plastic bottles when we were walking along the beach so all hotels should be helping by reducing use of plastic.We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend.

Amazing experience in the z hotel. Room with a fantastic view, best breakfast ever (including diverse fresh ingredients) and 2 good restaurants. Recent gym and nice rooftop too. But what I liked best was the service. Thank you and we will come back again.

A good hotel for staying for a few days with your loved one. Its $200 a night with garden view. Hotel charges extra 2% for credit card user. Breakfast restaurant is the best in the morning. Rooftop bar, too. Enjoy your staying.

Had a great service of Vitalis, he was really kind, friendly and hard working. He advised me a cocktail and it was the best cocktail ever. There was a wonderful sunset and nice background music at the rooftop bar.

From reservation to check-out, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we have the best experience.Before booking, we researched hotels in Zanzibar and found that Nungwi has the best beaches in Zanzibar. The Z Hotel beach is probably the best of the best.When we checked-in late at night, there were sandwiches waiting for us at the reception. We booked a sea view room with a balcony. What a great choice! The room was everything we hoped for. Clean, nicely decorated, with a very comfortable bed and most importantly great views of the sea.During our stay the staff at the hotel was super-friendly and attentive to every possible need we had. It was a truly amazing experience.The breakfasts at the hotel were superb with so much variety to choose from. We also enjoyed lobster dinner on the sand at the Sexy Fish restaurant. One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. Vibes are top notch, so is the food, location and staff. Breakfast overlooking the Indian Ocean is something special all on its own... Worth every cent.

The place is really nice. We take diner in the Sexy Fish, one of the main restaurant in Nungwi. We ate sushi, they were good and tasty. This dinner was for my sister’s birthday. They made a lovely song and a special birthday cake for her. She was sooooo surprised and staff was amazing with her. Thanks for everything, she will never forget this day !

Hotel is pricy and nice, but not perfect.The room was luxurious and everything was as described. Staff was helpful, the breakfasts were delicious, and the pool and sundeck are superb.However, the room was very noisy. I admit I went to sleep quite early, but the music between 7-9 PM was really loud. It didnt come just from the beach, but also from hotel restaurant, I think.

I didnt stay at the hotel but i visited the restaurant every day because the food and wine is amazing! I loved the sushi and lobster lollipops. If you want some exceptionally good food, definitely come here. The view from the restaurant is great as well as youre facing the ocean. The staff are friendly. Prices are not cheap but you get what you pay for and thats excellent service and food! Salum wazir was my waiter and did an excellent job making sure everything was in order.

Z Hotel is the best place in the world for me and my husband. We spent here only 4 days and 4 nights. We stayed at see view room, and the view was exelent. We dont need to go to The rooftop bar every time to see sunset. Cleaning was two times a day. Check in was very fast and friendly. Also we order private transfer from the airport. Driver was wery friendly, so we find one more friend Saidi. We was at Zanzibar 3 times, and stayed in neighboring hotels, but this one is the best. It was my dreem to visit this hotel. Thank for all the hotels team!!!

We just returned from a week at the Z hotel and LOVED it! The service was amazing- the fresh juice and a cold towel for my face on arrival just set the tone, thank you Daniel! The spa is great quality, better than other beach resorts Ive been to. The food is phenomenal- breakfast is included in all plans and featured made to order eggs as well as a buffet. The service was great- Niwa, Roda and Mary especially. For lunch (which was often poolside service, Thanks Sam and Khalifa!) we enjoyed pizza and sushi from Cinnamon/Rooftops. Rooftops has incredible sunset views (and lobster lollipops) and Sexy Fish is the place to be for dinner (have the calamari and squid ink risotto, trust me!). Hamad was one of our favorite waiters but everyone provides great service. I was obsessed with the decor- from the colorful stained glass light fixtures to the bold wallpaper prints to the truly extraordinary Kambi paintings everywhere. The pool is picturesque and private and while we really enjoyed the Mnemba Island snorkeling trip (that left just off the beach), we also loved snorkeling the reef that is just to the right of the hotel and easily accessible at low tide. Thanks to Ismael for answering all of our questions ahead of time and making sure our visit was a success. We would absolutely return and hope we get the chance!

Its hard to rate a restaurant that doesnt allow you in. Not without disinfecting your hands. Its nice to have such a possibility but its not always a good idea to do so. Besides, many people, including me, have allergic reactions to some disinfectants. Why should I risk when theres enough restaurants around that dont have such strange policies?

Unlucky, z hotel roof top gives off high quality but unfortunately suffered from severe food poisoning. I had pretty much returned all my main dishes/food due to poor quality. In bed suffering, lost a day of my vacation. View was spectacular though. Staff were top notch, did what they could to fix situation at restaurant.

Nice relaxing time but for this price and standard, we regret that the curtains are not at all blocking daylight from getting into the room, and that the double beds are quite small.Other than that, pretty nice facilities.

Were staying here at the moment. The hotel is OK but definitely does not live up to the marketing. Its way over priced for what you get. By all means stay here. But massively lower your expectations. Very standard and not very good service. It is definitely not luxury. Restaurant service is pretty bad. They will substitute items without telling you, or just bring dishes incomplete. No communication whatsoever. I really regret staying here. Would definitely have chosen one of the other hotels. If you come with low expectations then you will have a nice stay.

We chose the Z Hotel for our Honeymoon holiday in Zanzibar. We booked the Executive suite which was absolutely stunning and even better than what you may see on the phones online.The resort and location (about 1.5 hours from the airport) also stunning with the best beach and pool views. We also liked the privacy aspect of the resort, as we noticed from the other hotels people can come up and hassle you from the beach.The only downside for us was that the restaurant options and food were very average with hardly any vegetarian options (being a 4* Hotel). And alongside this, the service was very slow and careless. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes to get a casual beer at the pool. For example, one evening meal took 4 hours at Sexy Fish to complete and with numerous errors in our order. Also, we were told if ordering room service, each order would be chargeable for an additional USD 5.All in all, a special holiday and we are glad we chose Z Hotel and would return but maybe with some prepacked snacks.

WOW! What a pleasure to stay at The Z Hotel in Zanzibar. The staff was amazing, the food outstanding and the location incredible. The pool was so clean and overlooks the beach and ocean. The double story villa had its own wooden deck with an outdoor shower, hammock, lounge and lounge chairs - absolute bliss. The hotel had just opened so they ran out of some of the items offered on their menu, but whatever we did get was top class food! Id skip the pina colada... There are countless other restaurants and beaches to both sides of The Z Hotel and it is a great idea to explore them while you are there. We also ventured out and found the turtle sanctuary as well as a 4x4 buggy local tour that I really enjoyed. Something strange is the fact that the hotel serves as a thoroughfare for all beach goers as high tide comes in - which isnt an issue at all as there are security guards, but it was a strange concept for us. Great place for a perfect holiday!!!

Picturesque sunset views from their Roof Top bar. However service is slow and their snacks menu is not elaborate.Was served by a very courteous and pleasant waitress called Fatma in the restaurant in 2nd floor. Lobster wrapped in bacon was very scrumptious however a very small portion, catch of the day is also very well done.

This is a great place to go to 4 a stay or simply to dine and/or have drinks. I personally went to the rooftop terrace for drinks. When we were there, we enjoyed a special promotion where you got your fourth drink for free. Most of the beverages on the menu seemed interesting and original. Compared to other places close by, the prices were average. One thing that stood out in particular was the service offered by the two waitresses - they were both extremely efficient and friendly and appeared to love their jobs. I would undoubtedly recommend the rooftop terrace for drinks. You also get a breathtaking view of the sunset. The seating is comfortable and the decor is warm and welcoming. Check it out if youre in the area!

Highly recommended. The staff are wonderful, the rooms are immaculate and the dining on the beach experience is seriously amazing. Part of the beach is kept reserved for the guests to make sure the guests arent always being sold something. The food is great and the kitchen will work to meet dietary needs as best they can with what they have available. Oh, and the pool. What an amazing view from the infinity pool across the beach. We spent a week here and loved it.

There is a long beach and the section of beach in front of the hotel is patrolled to enhance privacy. You can enjoy swimming, and it is a pleasure either in the ocean or the large pool. While the hotel is not tiny, at no time did the pool area or beach feel crowded. Every member of staff is friendly and helpful, and it is great to find the managerial staff so accessible, including the ever-helpful and very approachable general manager. Staying here felt like being at a home away from home. Highly recommended.

Note: I don’t know about the hotel, just had a dinner in their restaurant, which is good if you looking for some non-seafood options too. Portions were okay, not big. Service is perfect, staff is really kind, and view from there is awesome in the sunset. I think price matches that.But don’t forget: by no means this place represents the REAL Zanzibar life. For me, it feels a bit too luxy, a bit too served. But if you are into that, this is maybe the place.

The perfect place to relax and enjoy yourself. The private beach is supercool and offers many opportunities for sporty or adventurous day trips. The pool is very nice for chilling and the open air restaurants offer great food. The cocktails for happy hour could be better. The hotel is at the best location with beautiful beach. Room is also comfort and big enough. Bath room is also big. Breakfast so many choices.They have very and Thai Foods ;-)Be aware no cash, only credit card sccepted.

Rooms were clean and restaurants were good, but there’s no culture here. Feels more like Europe than Africa and caters to Europeans. Nothing wrong with that if that’s what you’re looking for.Be sure to get out of the resort and head into the village and talk with the locals, this hotel is not a good representation of Zanzibar

The Z hotel restaurant. The food, chicken curry w rice, came in a very small portion w a cup full of rice. Almost like a kids menu item. The curry was very salty, like the cap came off the salt shaker salty. Ambiance was nice, long island ice teas were good and they take swipe. Thats always a plus. The service was good and the staff attentive.

Get yourself the half-board package because the seafood here is phenomenally fantastic! The workers are greatly courteous and very hard working. I stayed here five days and had no issues whatsoever. Beautiful place and stay, the commute is long from the airport but the hotel will accommodate. Well priced for the region and resorts. Also near a lot of the activities. Enjoy!

View from the room was great, loved the pool, having a choice of restaurants and the rooftop bar.As we were on our honeymoon, we were also treated with bottle of bubbles, 3 course dinner and complimentary massages.Great team at reception for helping us organise our day trips and transfers.

I’m so glad we picked this hotel, perfect beach spot with direct access to the water, beach front cozy pool, great room view and friendly staff. The hotel has a great restaurent for dinner and a rooftop bar for sunset. Basically all we wanted.

Great boutique hotel located on the right side of the island.Room: clean and modern. Nice design.Food: good food. I tried 2 of the restaurants and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. It is also priced reasonably - you can have some fresh grilled fish with all the side for $12Service: good. Attentive. Professional. Good internet connection.Only downside: it is a very nice hotel but it does not have any “equipment” (snorkeling, gym or whatever else) nor does not it organize any activities (yoga etc). Not really issue because number of people on the beach offer those services.Important: Z hotel is very well located - on West side of island. It is important to be in that area as otherwise tides will play havoc with your ability to swim.

Amazing hotel in the north coast of Zanzibar! The staff is really nice and helpful and treat you like you are their favorite guest. The hotel has a great pool and direct access to the beach, as well as two different restaurants and a cool bar to watch the beautiful sunset. We really enjoyed ou stay there!

Colonial style hotel. Great service, very warm and helpful staff. Hotel is organized in awesome way, you have easy access to the beach, restaurants and all the facilities you can think of. Rooms are spacious and clean. All the amenities of modern life are available i.e. AC, hot water 😁.

Loved staying here this place is magical!!!!!!! my room was LUXURY. perfect temperature with clean sheets and towels every night. we got a bottle of champagne on the first night and chocolates and fruit! the shampoos and conditioners!!!!!!!! your own private balcony!!!! sometimes monkeys traipse around on the balconies—it is so cute to watch them. the pool is amazing and breakfast on that patio is sooooo wonderful. i do wish the sun lounging area was bigger, maybe a roof deck or something... would recommend dinner on the beach but otherwise the food is spendy!!! there were a lot of little ants on the floor in my room but—welcome to africa! i kinda got used to it plus the housemaids are excellent. the hotel also sent us out with a nice breakfast to go in the morning because we had to leave early. Thank you z hotel!

Stayed at cottage 1. At Z hotel. Appartment was spacious with amazing balcony above the water. Clean appartment. Beautiful beach. Friendly staff. Food slightly better and cheaper at some of the other restaurants. Waves where pretty loud during high tide, I could sleep through it OK but keeping my wife awake at night.

Weve never experienced such friendly and service minded staff.Nice pool area with soft and nice sun beds. Private beach area with bar service and the sea was unbelievably beautiful.The area has several hotels you easily can walk between for souvernir shops, money exchange or restaurants.There are two restaurants. Cinnamon which is a bit simpler but good if you want a burger or pizza, and has a rooftop bar with a lovely view of the sunset. We had most of our meals at Saruche wich held a very high standards regarding menu selection and food quality - dont miss the lobster tempura!We used the spa a couple of times and the massage, manicure and pedicure were so relaxing and professionally performed.Rooms had everything you can wish for, large and clean bathroom. Comfy beds with large pillows. We warmly recommend The Z Hotel!

Nice place to chill out, got amazing beach. The beach is clean and for swimming lover i thinks its a perfect place for them. I cant say much its a friendly place but small on size. But all important stuffs are here. Restaurant, mini market, play ground, culture shops, and etc

Suites or penthouse floor is great. Service is very friendly. Food and drinks are very fairly priced, especially happy hour. Wifi was spotty though. Enough to get by for tourists but not if you have important things to do, such as business or video chats. If wifi was reliable it could be 5 stars.

The Z Hotel is a great little community comprised of wonderful restaurants, a beautiful beach, a great bar, and an amazing pool. Although the rooms are near-perfect, it would be a shame to stay in them because the outside area is so extraordinary. This hotel is a must if you go to Zanzibar.

Ive booked my stay and pre-paid 25%. I was supposed to stay in the hotel in June but had to cancel due to Covid. I tried to get refund twice and had no response from the hotel. I only got automatic mail saying that they are temporarily closed but will respond as soon as they open. Its almost October now and I still didnt get my money back and no one from the hotel contacted me.

This boutique hotel Is one of he finest places you can stay in Zanzibar. The private beach and the pool have great views and the rooftop is great to watch the sunset.

It was great experience, unfortunately the hotel was fuuly booked while we were in zanzibar bit we spend every single evening at the roof top, and our last dinner at the restauration on the beach ... staff is very friendly and helpful, the price are good and the quality is always there.... good address to recommande and our regards to raheema, to HAPPY and to aicha ... you rock girls

Very nice hotel start from the smile staff ..from the gard thill the waiters until the oner julie hind of this place they all come to serve and to give you best feeling.the rooms are grait but smal and the the sea view is perfect ...thw pool is edge and the food are very nice...the cinamon restaurant are good and the prices are good.the location is very good in the center off all.so go there you dont disappointed and dont forget to tel tham yuval send me....

Has a nice beach at the front, the dhows park nearby it which makes it easy to get to do sunset cruise and a cruise to mnemba Island. A tiny supermarket nearby the hotel makes it more convenient.

We had amazing dinner at the restaurant on the second floor and also the roof top is perfect for having drinks while laying on bed watching the sunset, it was amazing really.
