The hotel certainly has unique and distinctive character. It’s only reachable by a short walk which is fine, just not the easiest for those with handicaps. In General the amenities were fine. The room was clean and well kept. Breakfast was a bit underwhelming for a 4 star but acceptable. The restaurant and where breakfast is served provides views of the ocean and city. For most that’s reason enough to stay here.I give the hotel three stars mainly because the female I was traveling with was very disrespected and even felt unsafe at one point. It may be a cultural thing with Zanzibar religious roots who knows. On another note after staying in so many European and Asian / Middle East hotels it was a let down in service. Not as bad a the US but not great. Checkout is always agonizingly slow. That being said if your a Hilton honors member or booking with points I think this is still one of the better options in this cool island city.

The team at the hotel were great - they were very professional and efficient. We stayed at the hotel for one night but they were very accommodating and looked after our luggage whilst we went on a safari. They also let us us shower facilities before our return flight home. The food in the roof top restaurant was absolutely exceptional! The new pool they have just opened is beautiful!

We stayed here for 8 days. The property is aging and trying to maintain its charm. The staff are generally friendly and trying to elevate the guest experience. However, our stay was less than stellar missing the mark for what we have come to expect at a Hilton property. The beach vendors are extremely aggressive and not deterred by the security, several bartenders are working deals to reduce bar tabs in favor of their personal tips, and hot water in the shower was unreliable - varied morning to evening with no determined pattern or schedule. The menu at the property was also a disappointment. It was the same menu at the various places to order food, and the supply chain seemed to suffer while we were there and menu items became unavailable while the remaining food quality diminished daily over the course of our stay. We actually opted to leave the property and eat elsewhere toward the end of the week. Beyond these issues, the lack of ability for the property staff to provide change was a constant issue. Everything on the property is tip based and local ATM and banks only distribute larger bills in local currency. This limits our desire to tip, or leave us overtipping with the available bills we could acquire. The property seemed to have no ability or desire to assist us as guests, just hoping we would use larger bills. Overall, we are disappointed with Hilton and would not recommend to stay at this property.

The hotel is accessed by a series of alleys. The front desk team was always pleasant and welcoming. Our first room wreaked of urine, but they promptly moved us to another room. This room had a lovely view of tarp from the construction being done on the next building. Breakfast was good, and the views from the restaurant are nice. The AC seemed to turn off at night so we would often wake up hot. The room was dimly lit, and definitely dated but clean. Overall service was very attractive at the property.

Spent a night here. Hotel is located within walking distance of major Stone Town attractions and restaurants. In Stone Town you should expect to do some level of walking so expect to do so if staying here..as it has no direct car access but the parking is a stone throw away. Rooms are clean and comfortable, they have a rooftop restaurant where we had a decent breakfast buffet. If you have any issues please contact Tumaini she stood out of the hotel staff we interacted with. Book this hotel and take the guess work out of your search for a certain clean and restful night or two in Stone Town Zanzibar. Recommend!!

Their reception has an Arabic/Turkish theme, and it is romantic. The rooms are beautiful for sure, not something you can imagine to see while at the reception. The dining area is another marvel; quite cozy. I had a group of 25 and a dinner planned on the spot, it was all delivered beautifully let alone their breakfast buffet. Youll like the maze feeling you get while locating it in stone town. You are almost confused and here is their entrance... #karibuzanzibar

Nicely located hotel on the edge of the Stone Town. Reaching it is a bit tricky through the narrow lanes. Checking in was smooth and fast. We were upgraded to a suite at no extra cost. The suite was spacious, clean and modern, with no views but that was OK 😁. Breakfast was in an average sized rooftop restaurant with basic breakfast items. Staff in the restaurant are very attentive and helpful.

A really beautiful spot in Zanzibar. The sunsets were just amazing. The hotel is clean and the rooms really lovely. It is still very much a rustic vibe so dont expect 5 star. The towels are a bit tired and could use a refresh. Overall the food was good but I would say venture out along the beach as there are other restaurants otherwise it tends to get very monotonous every breakfast and night to have the same set of choices. The poolside snacks were great but the Pizza would have been better out of a wood-fired oven and not the frozen type but otherwise really amazing times.

Hotels entrance is off the main road and inaccessible by car. You have to walk about 5 minute with your luggage to get there. Food is expensive and not always fresh especially the pasta. Towels were hard and dingy. Shower stall was dirty. Would most likely not stay again there are better choices in the same price range

A great experience of Stone Town, Zanzibar. It gives you an impression that you rolled back the time, 50 years. Walking around the narrow streets and meeting friendly people, and street food at Forodhani complemented the stay. Staying at Double Tree by Hilton - Stone Town gives you a sense of togetherness. You are not in the world alone. Yet when you retreat to your room, you enjoy solidary rest, in a comfortable bed.

Fantastic hotel, with amazing service, staff and management. I’ve stayed in many DoubleTree / Hilton hotels, from Fiji to Riyadh, Dubai, to Sydney, and to Houston, and the DoubleTree Stone Town was truly exceptional. The hotel delivers on the well known high quality Hilton service and standards but with a strong authentic local feel. This makes it a fantastic and an all more enjoyable stay. The rooms were spacious, modern, and immaculately clean. The food was great from breakfast to lunch etc. Thanks to the entire team for making my stay enjoyable.

Wonderful hotel in Stone Town. The staff are some of the friendliest people I have met, always smiling and very helpful. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The restaurant was adequately manned and the restaurant staff were great too. The food I had was wonderful, looking forward to breakfast now. There is a small gym with a few machines but it is open 24 hours a day which is useful. The hotel is a short walk from the beach and other small handicraft shops and a very good spa. Locals are friendly and it feels safe walking around even after dark.

Great location, staff is amazing. Their restaurant is good. Keep in mind is a budget option hence rating for quality vs value for the island compared to other places. Must sort out the mould smell in the lift and ensuring everything works in the room. Wifi a bit slow. Terrace for bfast is nice. But again, greatest asset is the staff from reception to restaurant, friendly, polite, helpful.

Nice hotel, exceptional service. Just as advertised. Clean, comfortable, near to everything. AC works awesome. Rooms are great, beds are comfortable, bathroom is nice. There is a gym on the fifth floor, right near the restaurant. The view from the restaurant is great. Breakfast has many options--some more unusual than others (stir fry and potatoes in coconut sauce), but the coffee is great as well as the juice. Theres a pancake and omelette/egg station.Nabeel and Anna Paul are great. They let us store a luggage with them while we travelled the rest of the island and we stayed there on our last night. There is a TV in the room as well as WiFi. View from the room is nothing spectacular, but it is a good reason to leave and explore. It is also near Dubai Supermarket where you can get random things. More importantly it is near Cinnamon Spa--go there instead of the one they recommend at the front desk. Did not eat here for lunch or dinner. Definitely a great place to stay where you get more bang for your buck than if you stayed at a more pricey resort across the road. They even printed my corona test results to take to the airport. If you need a taxi, call Salum. We met him, and used him exclusively on our trip. He was fair and punctual. He has WhatsApp: +255 778 073 020

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights over New Year. Overall, everything was fine, but we didnt feel it was worth its price tag as one of the higher-end places to stay in Stone Town. The main issue was housekeeping. We were told upon checking in that, due to COVID, rooms would only be made up upon request, and that these requests must be made before 12 noon. We have travelled to many hotels during the pandemic, including several in Zanzibar, and this is the first time we have encountered this policy. Worse still, on the first day we did request that our room be made up, we came back from our day out to find that it hadnt happened, despite it being around seven hours since we had made the request. Our other issues with the hotel were that it just felt a bit soulless for a place as vibrant as Stone Town, and it also felt like the place had seen better days. Towels had holes in them, and the shower leaked. On the other hand, service in the top floor restaurant was excellent. In particular, wed like to thank Yohana for both his great service at dinner and his tips for places to visit in the town.

Did not meet global DoubleTree standards: rooms were very noisy from a loud in-room fridge, and our room (104) being across from a housekeeping closet. The windows also werent sealed properly so one night there was a storm overnight and our room got flooded. Housekeeping was good though and did turndown service each evening.Front desk/restaurant wanted $20 USD extra for a second guest on half board meal plan, despite the actual rate being identical between 1 or 2 guests, but we had already checked in.At least Diamonds got 20% off F&B so it was cheap to eat at the restaurant.

The hotel is everything you can expect from a Hilton anywhere in the world. I thought the service was immaculate, however the choice interior design and facilities did make it feel more like a business hotel (clinical feel to it). This doesnt seem to be unusual for Stone Town, but I wish I knew that before arriving. You receive a warm cookie upon check in and any time you ask for one.Room was clean and comfortable. More luxurious than other nice hotels we had stayed on on our trip - nice shower, TV, minifridge, and safe. Our air conditioning didnt work the first night, but was fixed before our second night. They provided bottled water each day. The outlets by the bed are universal outlets, which was a nice touch. I also liked being able to turn off all the lights from bed, too. Wifi was included free. The indoor/outdoor rooftop restaurant is great but can be very busy in the morning since Hilton medallion members get free breakfast. The staff is beyond nice and very helpful with whatever you need, even arrangements to the airport. A bit more than a week before the check-in date our family from overseas informed as that we need to visit them for an family emergency. As a result we had to cancel our trip to Tanzania. We knew our booking is nonrefundable but wanna make sure I got charged onto the correct credit card for insurance purpose, also to allow the hotel to know not to expect us. We called the Hilton 1-800 number but it turned out they cant do anything with this booking, not even connect with the hotel to deal with situation (I am a gold member). They told me to call the local number but I check with my phone company it is gonna cost me a fortune to call Tanzania. I asked if there is an email that I can reach apparently there is nothing on the record at all... They said they will send a ticket over to the hotel and ask them to email me or call me bit so far after 2 days I heard nothing yet.I putting a 3 star to be neutral on this and hope to let other future guests know in case you see yourself in similar situation.

Nice hotel in the heart of stone town. Safe and secure, great restaurant upstairs, close to everything. The only downside it that the front door is back some alleys from the taxi drop-off, but we never felt nervous or that security was an issue. I would book it again. Great staff too!!!!

The staff were great! We spend one night. Its well located in the heart of Stonetown. The day we were to leave, we checked out and left our luggage in the luggage room as our flight was in the afternoon. It just happened to be a rainy day in Stonetown and we were soaked wet by the time we got to the hotel. They were kind enough to give us a room to shower and change. Kudos the staff for your hospitality!

One of my favorite hotel to stay at in Zanzibar. Set in the middle of stone town in the alley ways you come across this beautiful hotel. Greeted by friendly staff. Rooms are spacious and clean. Rooftop terrace restaurant with panoramic views of stone town as you enjoy a delicious meal. Some nights they have live taraab music players which really makes Zanzibar come to life. Their coconut crab soup is a must and their pizzas I would highly recommend as well. They also make amazing birthday cakes, I recommend the black forest cake with fresh fruit. Will definitely keep coming back here.

A high class, elegant, modern yet rooted hotel. I expected no less from a Hilton branch and they really delivered. Every one of the staff were polite and helpful to us. The rooms were being cleaned frequently and the place has a fantastic location right behind the main streets of Stonetown.

This place is affordable, yet you get more than you paid for....The cookies when you come in are such a cute way to welcome guests. The food and breakfast was delicious. We had trouble with our TV and they came running and fixed it immediately. The only thing I did not like were the gazillion stairs at the front. I had a baby pram and it was torture trying to get up and down the stairs. Although the guards were kind enough to always help us up and down the stairs.

This Hilton property really sets the bar for customer service. We were treated more like old friends than guests with over the top accommodations, friendly staff (Mary really went out of her way to make sure we had an excellent experience) and quality Diamond member amenities. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a place to stay in Stonetown to choose the Doubletree.
