The hotel is located far from center of Matemwe, but they serve shuttle multiple times per day to get there.It has a restaurant and bar, three swimming pools, and private beach. In restaurant, there are not many kinds of foods but whatever I ordered tasted incredibly excellent.It runs Dive shop(Dive Point Zanzibar). So anyone who wants to do scuba dive and snorkeling can book through this hotel.I was satisfied with overall facilities and services.

I absolutely adored this hotel!Everything was great, except that the electricity went off a few times in night time which was creepy, and that the roads to the hotel are a disaster.But both of these disappointments you will find all over Zanzibar.This place definitely deserves 5 stars!

Fantastic place! Very cool rooms. You could not ask for a better place to learn to scuba dive. Hamisi was a great teacher and we had such a good experience. Great atmosphere and lots of places to hang out around the hotel. Very good food and free bike rentals

I just returned from an absolutely amazing time at Sunshine Marine Lodge. Everything about my experience was wonderful from the assistance provided via excellent communication leading up to my trip, to the great care that was provided throughout my time on both properties and at the Dive Center. I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing nature of the lodge as well as the beach access I had at Sunshine Bay and walking down to the beach/launch area during low tide. My PADI course completion and fun dive trips were fabulous thanks to the fantastic professionals at the Dive Center. I was even able to have a sensational snorkeling adventure a short walking distance from the beach at Sunshine Bay. I couldnt believe all of the beautiful coral and sea life that lay just below the water line at low tide.I cant even begin to talk about the good because it was all so delicious. I was able to eat at both properties, and enjoyed all of my meals! The staff in both restaurants were very attentive and professional. The cleaning staff were also excellent, and took great care of the room and my needs throughout my stay.This was a trip that I will always treasure, and thankfully have LOTS of pictures that will allow me to remember it fondly.Asante sana for everything!!

Excellent place to stay! I really enjoyed my stay over there. The room was spacious and confortable with cool balcony and local soap.The views are incredible, food was very tasty and the staff was hyper nice and welcoming.Pools are very nice and the dive center and all dive masters were so nice and very professional.The beach is a pure paradise!Overall, perfect place for a getaway that will make you feel wonderful!

This is one of those hotels where if you dont enjoy your stay, theres genuinely something wrong with you as a human. Its THAT good. We booked for 3 nights, and ended up staying 5. One couple we met have been coming here for years and another couple moved on to another part of Zanzibar, only to come back again the same day after 3+ hours in a taxi because theres no place like it. So Its definitely a special placeAnd why? The location is incredible, theres nothing around the resort but beautiful sea. The staff are amazing, AMAZING. The rooms are excellent. The gardens are stunning, the main swimming pool is stunning and their private beach is stunning, its all stunning! The food is pretty fab too.Add to all this, the dive centre which is based by the top pool not only does dive trips, but an incredible snorkelling trip which is an absolute must. We were enveloped by a pod of dolphins on ours, and that made it worth every penny.Come and stay here - you will love every chilled out second of it.

One of the most beautiful and perfect places I have been in my whole life, under every single and possible aspect. (Also, the best gift I could give myself after running away from the filth of Western tourists invading Nungwi beach with their sleazy and disrespectful (for locals) travel patterns).The location is magnificent and calm. The resort is environmentally conscious, from the building materials, till the soap you have in the shower and the food served in the restaurant. The integration of the overall structure with the surrounding vegetation/fauna has a low impact on the environment. The rooms - more than simply a room - are fabulous, clean and fresh. The overall service is outstanding: the reception, the housekeeping, the restaurant and the dive centres staff is simply amazing, sweet and kind. the restaurant offers always a vegetarian option and they are delicious and beautiful! I was waiting like a kid every evening to discover which fantastic dish would have arrived on my table.I took my AOP license at the in-house dive shop and I loved the dives and the people. The Mnemba atoll, with its fascinating dive spots, is basically in front of the resort and very fast to reach.I travel intensively both for work and leisure, and I usually do not go back to the same place; but I dream to go back to Sunshine Marine Lodge one day! Recommended 200%

This is literally a paradise corner! The hotel is in balance with the nature, clean and human size!The location on this side of the island is the best because the water is clear and sea life abundant!The staff is extremely friendly, caring and I loved the activities proposed (diving, yoga, other excursions on a very flexible basis)I had an awesome stay!!

Beautiful resort. Fantastic staff. Beautiful spacious rooms. We were blown away by this place. Food was good, although not served hot at times. Pools were overlooking the ocean with a dive shop right onsite. Last stretch of road into the lodge is very rough. Only minor negative was the beach was not right at resort. Requires a ride in the shuttle back on the rough road, about 10 mins. Bikes are available but it is more than a casual cycle from the resort to the beach. 20-30 minute ride Id guess. Boat is available sometimes which is a much nicer trip. Beach once you get there is beautiful. We enjoyed sitting by the pool overlooking the ocean. You can also use the jetty to swim right at resort during high tide.

Stayed 2 weeks in this paradise, very nice rooms, top dive base, nice yoga classes. Great fresh fish every day. If you look for a remote retreat to relax, look no further. No TV, no AC (no need really), slow wifi - but no need for any of that if you really want to unwind 😉

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel.We enjoyed the warm welcome at the reception. For the restaurant, the food was good and the service acceptable (some servers unmotivated). For the bar, good service and nice variety of drinks / cocktails.The room very clean and well appointed, great view!Several activities are proposed. We visited Stonetown: excellent. Prison Island: uninteresting except turtles.Overall a nice hotel to recommend, some disappointments and its a bit expensive.

Summary:Great for relaxing and enjoying good food. And of course a great choice for divers!——The place, the view, the people, employees and the diving experience are all amazing!All in all, i like everything about it (still there :)). The only thing i don‘t like much are the beds. They are not comfortable imho and they should replace them with better quality matresses...The place is far away from shops and restaurants and such, but the food here is great and this makes this lodge worth spending time in.

The hotel is very nice, But the waiters asked us several times if we had signed the bild. one day 3 times after an appetizer. Garlic disturbed me a lot, and I commented on them. they did not understand.

View from the pool/restaurant is awesome even with no beach here (however it can be accessed by walking 30min by low tide or by boat or transfer, the bar on the beach is owned by the same people, so they can provide you with towels and charge your rooms for drinks). The pools by the sea can be windy and somehow cold in the evening when sun is going down behind the houses. Cocktails are great. Food is good especially sauces. The breakfast is alright even if it could be better for the type of hotel. The restaurant staff does not speak a perfect english. Rooms are clean and terrace with hamac is a real plus. Good place for snorkelling/diving (people from the diving are very friendly and helpful plus they really speak English very well).

Gorgeous place and staff is friendly. Feels like paradise. The only thing Im missing is a higher quality of food. Its decent, but since the place is remotes enough for the hotel restaurant to be the only option, I wish for it to be a little better.

We stayed her for a full week, especially so we were able to do 3 days of diving. It is very small nicely an silently located lodge complex. The food in general is ok, only the breakfast is something which should really be improved. You have to order your breakfast beside some small thinks you can take from the bufet. If you want additional fruit at breakfast, which we really like to have and is cheap in Zanzibar, they refuse to give you that, also after escalating to the manager no improvement. Sorry to say, but this gave a negative feeling about the service, while everything else was good.

On the way to the hotel is a rough road..Well its a real bumpy ride for a woman with a baby bump like me during the trip.. Our 1st night was terrible because the food we ordered ( lamb, goat meat from the mix grill for 2 ) were difficult to chew.. theyre like rubbers..We complained to the waiter and they did not charge the ordered lamb at USD25.And in the middle of our sleep my husband and I woke up soaked with our own sweat because there was a power interruption so the fans were off.I even thought of moving to another hotel.But after the 1st night everything went perfect.Few food selection from the menu but the food are not bad most especially the swahili main dishes except meats and you dont have other choices of restaurant because the resort is alone in the middle of somewhere.. 😬Great room service every day and they changed our linens and towels from the 1st night since it was wet from our sweat.The activities and tours arranged for us was well organized and we dont feel that we were over priced but their souvenir shop is more expensive than the other souvenir shops of zanzibar. The souvenir shop at the airport is even cheaper.. 😬The GRO of the resort named Ally is really very helpful and taking care properly all the guests.The male waiters are really friendly.Sunshine Marines beach is located somewhere near the resort since it is not advisable to swim at the open water in front of the resort.There are 3 ways how to get there, riding a boat, resorts car service or bicycle.The boat wasnt always available due to the low tide. The beach is also nice when its not low tide and when the waves are not so huge.I could say that the room rate is expensive after experiencing another hotel/resort that was far cheaper with the same kind of rooms and ambiance and the quality of service and facilities was almost the same.

Good place for relaxation and quiet for a couple days. Facilities are good and staff is helpful. Diving/snorkeling activities and pick-up and drop-off are somewhat pricey. Also, the food becomes a bit tiresome after too long of a stay.

Well constructed and maintained rooms in multiple huts in a beautiful garden. Room was fantasticGood diving school / instructors. Nearby Mnemba atoll is out of this world. Nice pool. Sea shore can be reached by stairs from the cliff, sand beach is a 5 min. walk away (at low tide only).Food could have been more varied, more local and of more consistent quality. We are not coming to this beautiful island to eat stuff we could eat at home. (Although it was the only place Ive had fab Baobab juice.)Now, the hotel seems European-owned and the local staff somehow didnt seem too happy and motivated with the working conditions. The managements fault? Low wages? Maybe the average guest profile is too boring for them? (Haha.)Also, the whole place feels a little bit randomly planted & out of touch in a context of fishermens villages. I can understand the price tag, but ask myself where the money goes...Next time Id look for something more immersive and more authentic. Still, 4 stars for the rooms and maintenance.

What a lovely place it is! We came here with our companys team to celebrate our 10th anniversary and the place and staff couldnt be more helpful and welcoming. The place is beautifully situated, facing the ocean, with cosy houses with a sea view. Food is delicious! Highly recommended!

The lodge is located north east of Nungwe directly opposite a UNESCO diving site called Mnemba Atoll, which was the reason for staying there. However any of the other hotels on The strip also offer diving and snorkelling trips to the atoll. The hotel is exclusive and seclusive. Its quiet, situated in beautifully designed GArdens, with 3 pools, one being an eternity pool. There is also a PADI office. The extreme tidal range does not create a sandy beach/beach facility BUT the atoll is only 3km away and is blessed with the most amazing variation of fish life and perfect visibility. Be warned, if you take the wrong dirt road, as we did, you will land up on the most horrendous dirt road ever for over an hour driving through the local villages. Road signs, or any signs for that matter, are few and far between all over the island. The hotel manager did take pity and kindly upgraded our room. Rooms are modern, large and airy with fans but no fridge, hairdryer or TV, which is not really a big deal as nature, Sun and views take over all senses. Beautiful!!

All round thumbs up - great rooms with ocean views and cooling ocean breezes..two pools looking straight out to mnemba island, a 10 minute walk takes you to the best unspoilt beach in the north..great dive centre on location Dive Point what else do you need.

Very nice view, pleasant swimming pool, beautiful garden, but the rooms are small, and with the sink, shower inside, in addition very hot and without air conditioning, with fan. The restaurant is very expensive and few choices, the portions are minimal. No possibility to go elsewhere everything is far. This gives a very average value for money.

Magnificent hotel. The staff are lovely, everything is super well maintained, the gardens are beautiful and the rooms are very spacious with balconies overlooking an idyllic view. The view from the hotel bar and swimming pool was beautiful. A place away from other buildings. Typical for relaxation and rest. The hotel only has beaches at low tide, pebble with steps downhill. It is not a sandy wide beach. The hotel no longer has a beach, approx. 700 m away, with a bar and deckchairs. There, the construction of huge hotels with a private beach is already underway.

Very nice hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms are nice and clean. The view of the sea is beautiful. Unfortunately there is no direct beach access. However, you can jump into the water at high tide. The wifi is not very good. There is almost no reception in the room. The food is relatively expensive but very tasty.

Hi all . I will tell you about our experience at the Sunshine Marine lodge in Matemwe in Zanzibar.FUYEZZZZ we were the victim of money theft from our room. We went to the reception to complain the next day because the reception was closed at night. They dont want to know, they didnt take our request into consideration, they dont give a damn about professionalism !!! And in addition two days of suites with power cuts, super badly placed hotel nothing around which forces you to eat there with EXHORIBITING prices and especially no choice!So if you can never put it in your plan.Admittedly, the hotel is cute, but there are plenty of flaws!

I was here 3 days with my family. Excellent structure, excellent value for money. Very quiet, its not the right place if you have evening parties in mind. It is the right place if you are looking for the most beautiful, peaceful and quiet beach in Zanzibar. The tide does not affect bathing and is not as excessive as in the south. Much quieter than Kendwa and located in front of the Memba atoll. The boys of the village not far Matemwe day they bring the atoll for a few dozen dollars - and they also make airport transfer. Do not be intimidated by the distance of the Sunshine beach, because just ask at reception and take you by car or boat. On foot by land they are 2km (it is very safe to go on foot of course during the day). By sea they are 700 meters but passable only at low tide. I would go there again!

A beautiful view, the rooms are beautiful and the place is very quiet. I highly recommend knowing that I have 3 different hotels, by far the best. You can not be disappointed.

We loved it. Highly recommended to go as a couple and little to go with children. The beach is 10. Ons. Walk along the coast when the tide comes down. In front is the Mnemba. You can not step on it but you can go to your corals and sandbar. Our room was spacious, clean and beautiful. The kings food very good. All the staff was lovely.

This hotel is really amazing, view, pool place, room ... Everything is super comfortable and beautiful! The staff members are also super nice.If I put 4 stars is because of the restaurant, there is not much choice on the map, in addition to that, the chicken dishes (sandwich, salad, curry, massala) are not very good because there are nerves and other pieces not very good in it. To finish on the restaurant, the music is the same playlist that runs in a loop every day and it really really hurts the skull knowing that this is not a type of music appreciated by everyone.Voili voilou, if I could put commas I will still 4.5 ⭐If you like to dive, there is also a dive center and snorkling on site, the instructors are really very friendly!For those wishing to stay there, make sure to book well in advance (the sooner the better to enjoy the best prices) personally we booked almost a year in advance!

Magnificent ! We just went while we were snorkeling with DivePoint on Mnemba: this hotel is fabulous! Location very well maintained, superb pools (including the infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean), flower garden and trees. We would have loved to have a room there ... if it had not been full. Too bad for us.

Atmospheric decor. Pro-ecological. Excellent traditional cuisine. The service was polite. On site there is a diving center and wonderful reefs

Rooms very cozy, but unfortunately there is no air conditioning and blowers for someone who is not accustomed to such a great heat, not enough. Restaurant on a good level. Prices as usual throughout the island. A lot of insects, so dont leave your food alone. Transfer to the beach for free (bus about 15min - a definite experience: D, boat much more comfortable, footwear not recommended or only in solid shoes, can rent a bike). On the beach bar and the possibility of renting a frisbee or a balloon.

Cozy rooms (just missing the refrigerator and air conditioning-but we make up for the fans), excellent cuisine, we had more food and everywhere excellent. The beach is a short walk from the hotel, the boat is a pleasant journey, can be reached by bus, but for an experience also worth a ride (about 5 minutes). Personal very nice and willing to arrange anything for you.

Good hotel to get away from it all. It is situated in a completely secluded area, but has a large beach just to the side, the transfer is ensured by the hotel, by boat 2 minutes, by car are 10/15 mutos.

What a wonderful experience to reach heaven. Wonderful staff, attentive, professional and smiling. The highest level of maintenance we have seen in all of Tanzania. Accurate and delicious food. Do not know how we will manage to leave?

I was half a day at this resort back from an excursion ... lovely place with pool sea ..... very few people ... peace and quiet ... I ate in the restaurant and for what concerns me is not me liked ... attention to cooking dishes because they could get overcooked or raw ...

Three swimming pools available including an infinity edge on a cliff in front of an atoll, a private beach (a little remote) of white sand and magnificent rooms. We feel rested here.
