Zanzi resort was the absolute perfect place for my wife and I to relax on our honeymoon after climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. Where do I begin? First of all the staff was so incredibly friendly and helpful. Any and every request we had was fulfilled in a timely manner and it was a pleasure getting to know the staff throughout our week at the resort. From breakfast to dinner, the food and drinks were delicious every time. We looked forward each evening to the rotating dinner menu, which was always an A+ from the chef. The accommodations were perfect for a relaxing, enjoyable stay. Our villa included a private pool with a poolside cabana, lounge chairs, and direct beach access. We felt like we were in paradise (and we were) the entire time. In addition, the amenities like massages and excursions were top-notch as well. Our massages were some of the best weve ever had, as we peacefully listened to waves crashing against the rocks. If youre looking for a secluded, relaxing environment in Zanzibar, Zanzi Resort is the perfect place for you.
When we arrived at Zanzi resort we were met with warm hospitality and given fresh cut cold coconuts (a treasure in the humid heat of Zanzibar). We enjoyed the privacy of our ocean view villa, nestled between plants of the jungle giving us the space to enjoy our private garden and pool. We were well attended to, food and beverages catered to our every need. My partner enjoyed the Chai Masala tea, which is up there with the very best of India Masala. We could snorkel from the deck and our day was well rounded with beautiful sunsets. This is a magical space for healing and coming back to yourself. There is peace here and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you to all the kind and generous staff of Zanzi resort!
Excellent service... wonderful place ... Great hospitality.. food is so delicious... Id enjoyed my stay there so much ... perfect place for honeymooners
Good and best. International awarded during 2021.
The resort is outstanding, unique and authentic african/jungle experience. They only have 13 villas if I remember correctly. Each villa/bungalow provides absolute privacy and your own garden just for you to use. We were welcomed by the sales manager Emi, who was incredibly friendly, helpful and explained everything in the intro-welcome tour. If you report any issue/concern, Emi deals with it immediately and goes beyond everything to resolve it!! Amazing. The accommodation was spacious and great. We tried garden bungalow and also ocean-front villa with a private pool. The villa was amazing, superb, unique, simply the best. We would not choose the garden bungalow (it has insufficient insulation and you can hear the night jungle all night). The hotel provides room-service free of charge, therefore you can order your meal/drink to your room, to the beach, to jetty - and they have phones everywhere so you can call them. The dining experience in this hotel was also great - they provide a la carte option only, but this is the best they can do and is absolutely worth it. The dinner menu is never known beforehand, but the chef prepares it every night based on fresh ingredients he has that day. The atmosphere in the restaurant was always amazing including authentic african performances, and the staff is simply stunning, friendly, smiling, always helpful, they know you by your name and remember you. This hotel really exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it to everybody. Absolutely incredible atmosphere.
Zanzi Resort one of the best resorts I have visited. I enjoyed every moments I spent their. The atmosphere of the tropical forest is great, the villa looks great and private. The beach is so privet, even for muslims ladies and enjoy it. The pier have many tanning bed to relax and listen to the ocean sounds. The food is really delicious. I stayed their 5 nights; each night the cheif impressed us with great starter, delicious salad and soap, and the main dishes every day are so yummy and artistic with let you feel that it have been cooked with love. Thank you Zanzi resort for making my 10the anniversary so special.
We had a lovely, honeymoon-like experience! The full board option is just right, because the resort is on the outskirts of town, so it isnt logical to need to leave for food.I must say the food was quite tasty too!The private pool in our garden was a bonus, as well as a romantic dinner for two on the evening we arrived. The staff was very friendly and always ready to help us get the best out of our stay, with the exception of one waiter, whom we reported.
Amazing hotel!! We stayed at villa #7, with private pool and private ocean access and it was wonderful! Very nice territory of the hotel, with lots of beautiful trees and flowers, perfect service, very friendly staff and that feeling of total relaxation and privacy... keep in mind that the beach is very small and theres daily tides... but you can always enjoy your private or public pool or swimming from the pier... In total 10/10, top place in Zanzibar
The Zanzi resort was a really good hotel. A bit pricy.I book a birthday dinner for my boyfriend at the jetty – unfortunately they totally messed it up. They let us wait for 30 minutes until some came. Another 30 minutes later the wine came. Food was good, but overall slow service. This was the first evening. We were more than disappointed. The manager came and told us they had problems in the kitchen and we should give them another chance.Form now onwards service was excellent, every breakfast or dinner was super nice. We didn’t have to pay for the wine. And on our last evening we get a dinner at the beach for free, this was fantastic. Service management there was really amazing. We had a bungalow with a pool which was nice and big – room service was also great. Beach is very small there – so we just chilled at the pool.
Visited Sep 2018 for Honeymoon.A low 5 stars. We had very high expectations considering the price, the prior reviews and this being our honeymoon. On the whole, it slightly missed these expectations but is still an excellent hotel.Rooms: We had the villa with a private pool, cabana and access to the beach. The villa was by far the best bit about the hotel and something which I cannot fault. The villa had a spacious lounge, bathroom and bedroom as well as a reasonably sized pool and outdoor area. The rooms were clean and well equipped. The view from the end of the garden, overlooking the ocean and the pier was incredible, especially during sunset.Grounds of the hotel: The grounds are beautiful and very maintained. The hotel has a tropical rainforest feel (complete with bush babies) that meets the ocean. You shouldnt stay at this hotel if you want a nice beach. They have a small sandy area but otherwise the beach is virtually non-existent. The pier is great for sitting on and watching the sunset and there are steps at the end for you to get down in to the sea.Service: A bit hit and miss. Slow and wrong in some cases but always friendly and got there in the end. Nivot was especially good. The dinner on the beach and on the jetty were amazing.Food: Nice variety and good quality across breakfast, lunch and dinner. The anytime room service was particularly great as well.Other issues:- Extras are over-priced: If you aren’t doing all inclusive then you may find the food expensive. It’s certainly over-priced for what it is. The massages were also outrageously expensive (as much or more than London prices) as was the excursion.- No lunch on the last day…. Considering you are spending so much money there on all inclusive, it would be nice if they gave you lunch before your flight on your check out day.- They have the same music CD every day in the restaurant.
I can honestly say that I would find it hard to believe that you could stay anywhere better on the Island than here! From the moment we arrived the service was 5*, the rooms are beautiful (and we were upgraded which was a huge treat), the food was fantastic and the whole stay felt extremely luxurious. The resort is very quiet as people spend a lot of time in their own bungalows. We were even waved off by the manager when we left for our flight at 3am!We also spent some time at the sister hotel Zanzibar Queen - it was easier (and cheaper) to do activities from here, but I have to say its hard to believe theyre under the same management after experiencing the Zanzi Resort. I loved every minute of my stay in both hotels though and would recommend staying in both to see both sides of the island.
Outstanding African style resort. Very personal service. You can get breakfast at any time of the day and at any place, be it the yetty, the beach, youre room or the main restaurant without extra cost. The three course dinner menu was delicious. The prices for lunch and drinks are higher European prices. A wine glass costs 8 Dollar for example and the juices at 5 Dollar. But the juices are freshly pressed and very good. The ocean view villas have a very high luxurious standard, with a very nice bathroom. We also stayed at a garden bungalow, these are still very good and big bungalows, but the bed and bathroom arent as luxurious and youre also missing out on the private pool ;).
Overall its definitely a beautiful resort and perfect place to get engaged! Downfall are there are a ton of bugs and service is a bit on the slow side. Everyone is super friendly though! The only warning I want to give is the photographer they recommend or provide for your engagement is actually not worth it :( My fiance booked the photographer as part of the proposal but she provided no guidance in terms of posing and/or direction during the shoot. As someone who has modeled before this was actually already a red flag to me during the shoot. We also shot the next day and I was wary that I might not like the photos. We finally received our photos and sure enough the scenic views were amazing, but a few of the photos that she selected and sent over had some blinking shots, half eyes (due to bright sun), etc. It was interesting that she sent those over as the selected ones. I wanted to write the review because I know how important a photographer is in capturing your special moment and delivering photos that you ultimately can use :) I probably can use 3 of the photos so if you end up booking this photographer - just be warned and also prepare for the types of shots you want since youll have to direct her and also you might need to ask if you can see the shots and zoom in to make sure they are good. :) good luck!!
One of the most beautiful private resort
I just finished 4 days at Zanzi with my now wife and was utterly blown away by my time here. We travel a lot and have stayed at many of the nicest 5-Star establishments across the world, nowhere have I felt more taken care of than here. From the moment we arrived everything from our pickup, to the reception once we arrived all the way through to our departure was nothing short of flawless. The staff was amazingly attentive and accommodating without being intrusive. The food was outstanding for every meal; everything a la carte no buffets, whenever and wherever you want it (jetty, pool, beach, room, dining area, etc.). Everything is local and dinner rotates daily which was amazing. Our room was similarly outstanding (eco-villa) and the grounds were impeccably well kept.We not only honeymooned there but actually had or ceremony on the beach, and when I say they went over and above, I truly mean it. They took care of EVERYTHING, gladly taking any input or requests we had and asking questions when needed to make sure everything was as you’d like it. I cannot have imagined it all going better.I don’t know when the next time I’ll be in Zanzibar is, but I would not even think about staying anywhere else. I actually felt like I wasn’t paying enough for what I was getting here, a thought I’ve never once had in my travels to ~30 or so countries, until Zanzi.
We had the most beautiful wedding at Zanzi Resort a year ago in January. The staff were extraordinarily good in making us and our guest feel good (like a real wedding celebration feel), and have an amazing party at the beach - ending in a midnight swim in the Ocean.Overall the food at the resort is really good - wide selection of breakfast goods which you can have brought to your villa... great chicken sandwiches and sea food from the grill. The villas are beautiful, clean, luxurious, private and spacious. The lush greenery around adds to the feeling of privacy and comfort. Sort of an organised jungle between the villas. We had some challenges in communication prior to the party - supposedly they had not held a wedding with several guests before which added to our anxiety before the wedding. However, on the wedding day everyone was really kind, fun, well organised - so we have only positive memories of the beautiful day. The same goes to the wedding documents afterwards (which meant that it took a year to finalise everything) - some troubles with communications which somehow relates to a change in management too (?). (The current manager is awesome tho)Regardless of the last points, everything else was so well executed - it was really the perfect wedding and stay at Zanzi Resort. Highly recommended!
I booked an Ocean Access Villa at Zanzi Resort in early April 2019 by E-mail. The resort usually responded to several of my E-Mails within 24 hours. This changed when I had to cancel our visit to Zanzibar two months before the planned stay by E-mail due to Covid 19. My cancellation E-mail as well as subsequent E-mails remained without any confirmation or feedback. Our vacation there was prepaid in full. I hope that these facts prevent others from running into the same awkward situation.
Absolutely fantastic. Superb smiley staff, gorgeous villas, fabulous dining room, excellent food. What more can I say! Oh and a top notch manager Nivot!
No beach and posibility to swim from the shore. Poor staff. You tell one thing they do different. Coffee machine was broken, in villa shower was broken, TV programmes not working, electricity dissappiers every evening 3-5times. The road to the resort iš terrible. Low 4 star resort
First I want to start saying once again THANK YOU so much to maria and her team for making our stay a dreamstay! From the check in till the checkout it was a fairytale! And we really know what we are talking about because we travel all year long around the world and always stay in 5 stars hotels but here we can really say the service and kindness of all the team was more than everything. We booked the hotel in last minute and after the first email i sent I directly had the feeling that our stay will be wonderfull because Maria was so kind and easygoing! She arranged everything for my friends birthday. We stayed there for only 1 night and our only regret was to not beeing ablo to stay way much longer....Maria has a wonderful intimate resort, forget all those big resorts from famous brands with kids running everywhere and all inclusive buffets! Here you will have a piece of heaven by staying in one of their wonderfull villas : garden, swimming pool or beach. You can choose half board or full board or all inn. The food is a la carte and very good! ( and u get in on a very raisonnable time for zanzibar ) if you have any request they made it for you.!!We stayed in a pool villa ( thank you so much again for this amazing gift )The villa was really big, very cleanOne Super confortable bed, very nice shower, beautifull garden with a nice pool with current! And a great beach view! Especially for unforgettable sunsetsWe only did room service because we didnt want to leave this oasis! And the best thing is that the room service is FREE of charge! Here you have all the service of all those big palaces but in BETTER!Because everything is personalized and NOT overpriced!Even if you are not in full board the food is very affordable, and even for the minibar. You may be in a resort located in a area with nothing around but you wont feel trapped or abused like it can happens in other places. You also have another big pool with nice inflatable ducks ! A special open air gym ( not made for bodybuilding) but enough to stay in shape by doing some push up abs and few other exercises. The jetty is wonderfull, please ask to book it for a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner its really a must to do!You also have a private beach or the best thing is to take one of the kayak and go to the beautiful white sand beach next to the hotel. You can also snorkel all around its really great!Once again We want to thank you Maria and everyone who made this stay such a magic stay, meeting you and staying at your hotel was really the highlight of our holidays ! Thank you once again. J L
Absolutely great place and people! Delicious cuisine (great cooks), helpful, professional and kind staff and hotel manager. Ideal venue both for couples, friends and families - I highly recommend it!
My wife and I spent a few nights here on our honeymoon after enjoying some time at their sister resort on the Indian Ocean side (Zanzibar Queen Resort). This gave us the awesome opportunity to experience both sides of Spice Island!First, the beach... after all, youre in Zanzibar! The beach is definitely on the very small and rocky side, and the tides here are extreme so be prepared for that. Now, the resort does their best to overcome this with a long pier that juts into the ocean (allowing for all-day swimming), but all-in-all, a pier is not a beach. Regardless, the beach they do have is OK (at best) and low tide allows for some fun tidal exploration (which is cool), but if its a beach you want, its not here. And as a side-note, a sign at the beginning of the pier claims it is one of Zanzibars best places to view dolphins, however, that claim is patently false (per management). In fact, you will never see a dolphin from there so I have to ask why that sign remains. Sure, you could say this is a largely insignificant point to complain about, but Im not complaining, rather, mentioning that the sign should just be removed if it isnt true. Past that, the grounds are very pretty and natural, and feels like a jungle (complete with birds, lizards, and bush babies aplenty). The food and drinks here are good (and better than Zanzibar Queen Resort) so that is definitely a plus - hats off to the chef! As for staff, they are great and super friendly with management being decent enough so no real complaints there. Now, management did upgrade us (which was nice), however, the upgrade was largely useless to us as honeymooners as we got the family suite; more space for non-existent kids and two king beds despite only needing one to sleep on, but hey, its the thought that always counts so what can I genuinely say without sounding like a spoiled western tourist. Two specific negatives (and this is just for us as honeymooners)... every location we went to - whether Serengeti, Tarangire, Kholle House, or Zanzibar Queen Resort - provided some niceties to celebrate our ocassion (at a minimum a complimentary bottle of champagne or wine). Outside of the room upgrade (which, frankly, we unexpectedly received at each of our locations), we got nothing else. And yes, you can now officially call me a spoiled tourist on his honeymoon and I wont take it personally, but that doesnt change the fact that management who is on-point knows how to commemorate a honeymoon. Just saying. It really felt out of sight, out of mind and that lack of attentiveness is reflected in the rating, especially when we saw specific complimentary celebrations at dinner for two birthdays and an anniversary which further exacerbated that point. Frankly, if it wasnt our honeymoon - you know, a once in a lifetime celebration - Id have no complaints, but it was so I will cry about it some.Ultimately, we had a good time here (despite some minor hiccups) and would recommend the place to anyone. Its a very solid 4-star (and not more) experience, everything considered, and Id be willing to bet anyone would enjoy their stay here.
Definitely not 5 star facility, nor is it a luxury beach retreat; @ its very best its 3 star bush camping as its in the bush and very crude and bushy, not tropical. They call the rooms garden rooms, but the accurate description should be bush rooms as gardens are maintained and manicured, whereas theres is raw & unkempt. The pool & restaurant are not even on the beach front, the restaurant is very dark even during midday. The rooms and bathrooms are entirely old fashioned, furnished in the most revolting outdated furniture which look NOTHING like the pictures advertised. The bed is extremely low with a thin hard uncomfortable mattress like a prison bed, & the pillows are cheap synthetic poor quality and lumpy. The bathroom has an unbearable foul sewage stench & my shower had worms in it! The rooms are very dark and claustrophobic as theres only a small narrow entrance door, no wide glass doors opening out onto the terrace so you do not have that indoor outdoor conjoined space. Curtains are too narrow for the windows so you have open gaps on the sides. No real gym with proper gym equipment, only an open aired space with a few ropes that they call a gym, when its the scorching hot tropics so its impossible to work out in that heat! The hotel security by the sea side are in fact the ones guests require protection from as they sexually harassed me incessantly though out my stay! There is no beach, the sea has to be excessed from a jetty - so that image people have of Zanzibars endless white sandy beaches are not met at Zanzi Resort. There are many bushbabies on the property who make the most blaring cry ALL NIGHT which sounds like an alarm siren going off next to your ear. The road to the hotel is very bad, its an untarred gravel path so very uncomfortable and bumpy travelling along it.
Brilliant resort ... Good room sizes ... Amazing breakfast ... Warm and attentive staff ... Breathtaking views ... The beach is rocky though unless your villa has access to a private beach area.
Like 2 months ago I was at ngalawa resort it was very wonderful with good guy in a Bar he received us nicely, the food service was nice the pool friend was very friendly with us also the swimming pool was cleaned nicely, thank you all people from reception till whole ngalawa resort management, keep service well as you did for me with my two friends, thanks.!!

What can i say about this place… location, people, food.. everything is amazing.. fresh fruits, amazing dinner…Alex did an amazing job serving us with a smiling face.. ask for it, they will make it happen for you..
A beautiful hotel, feels like you are in the middle of the jungle. Outstanding service, delicious food and lots of privacy. The staff tries hard to anticipate every wish. Its like paradise.
Quietly located complex in the middle of a beautiful garden. Super friendly staff and excellent food! Great range of wellness treatments and excursions. I can only recommend it to everyone who is looking for peace and relaxation.
The place is quiet and beautiful, the hotel staff is cooperative and cheerful, and the camel is welcomed warmly, but there are negative points, which are that the place of the restaurant is in the middle of the forest, you may be surprised by the presence of some insects, they did not bother me, except on the last day, there were many I could not eat my meal, Some may not be bothered, as well as the bathroom. The window was open and not closed, although the rooms were private, but I was annoyed by that... In general, the general impression was very wonderful and the negatives can be overlooked..
Fabulous paradise! The review will be expanded, since in 8 days we visited 8 hotels in search of Comfort and harmony during the holidays, and only here we could find everything we wanted!Ill tell you everything in order. We arrived in Zanzibar during the High Season, New Years holidays. In the early days of good hotels there was no word at all, at all, they were forced to stay in the north on the recommendation of friends, supposedly there are the most beautiful beaches and comfortable at the entrance, comfortable in terms of ebb and flow. But I want to warn you right away: if the water leaves, then it is uncomfortable to swim neither in the north of the island, nor in any other part, since the water, so that you have it at least waist-deep, you need to walk along the bottom of the shallow ocean long enough, over sea urchins and algae, among algae snakes come across and this is unpleasant. In the same hotel there is an excellent Pier and, accordingly, it does not matter to you whether the tide is high or low, it is comfortable to swim at any time of the day, this is the first respect! It is also wonderful to sunbathe on the pier, a gentle breeze caresses you while sunbathing, and there are absolutely no and cannot be random people, as the territory is private! The view from the pier is amazingly beautiful, a delight for the eyes! A few more words about the pier: in the evening here you can order a romantic dinner for two, by prior arrangement! Reception: no other place in Zanzibar has given us such a hospitable welcome. Sincere, open and with a clean smile, the hotel staff greeted us, offered cooling drinks in the form of fresh coconut and chilled fruits, the room was cleaned immediately after we left it, how they managed to do it, its hard to say, but the fact remains, one more respect !Villas are generally a separate song: they are huge in size and with thoughtful details in absolutely everything!Breakfasts are very hearty and healthy, you can agree in advance to prepare an individual breakfast just for you, taking into account all your wishes! Dinner excellent!Delicious and the right portion size so you dont overeat at night! The territory is huge and green, it feels like you are in the tropics, the natural harmony of flora and fauna reigns here, happy squirrels jump on the branches, birds of paradise sing, in the evenings the staff in the restaurant feeds lemurs, its amazing! I recommend this Hotel to the most demanding guests, here anyone will have a great rest! The only thing I would recommend to the hotel management is to change the pillows, they look ridiculous in this paradise, it would be much more correct to buy down, or at least feather pillows! Otherwise, a solid five and a low bow to the management, for the Hotel so thought out to every little detail мел this Hotel is the best of all that we have visited on this island!
Beautiful hotel. A haven of peace for those who wish to rest. A unique setting on Zanzibar, perfect service, you feel like a VIP! I highly recommend this hotel. The restaurant is exceptional, better than in Paris !! Thanks to all the team, youre great!
A wonderfully secluded resort at the end of a street where you would hardly expect such a paradise. An exquisite ambience for real privacy, no sign do not disturb at the door, but a green / red stone 3 m in front of the villa, indicating whether you want to receive someone or not. The images on the net often show something that you do not find - here it is the other way round. We have found a place that is unequaled. In addition a gigantic service, friendly people and an unbeatable meal. We are happy!
Everything is absolutely perfect! The service is impeccable, the staff is lovely, the meals are excellent (bravo to the chef) and the proposed activities are ideal to discover the island! The dinner on the pontoon is highly recommended :)
Everything is perfect. Service like we have never had elsewhere, can not do enough for us. Special mention to the chef, the dishes are really delicious!
The hotel is tiny .. only 13 rooms .. the whole system is a la carte .. for its price it is simple .. although it is considered the best hotel on the island ..Is it possible to recommend it for romance - probably .. although the rooms are not at all romantic ... there is no entertainment ... sad ... there is a golf course .. but when we were, they were empty .. the hotel rating was overwhelming .. just probably I I did not get it..
The hotel is set in a forest near the seashore and therefore the area is beautiful. There is a feeling in the hotel that you are saved: there are no lights for the outside at night (which is completely dark) and therefore bring you our flashlight did not work at all, the water coming out of the shower is cold, lamps in the room are broken, In addition to the hard showers and no comfort at all !, We did not receive a blanket and when we called room service to ask for a blanket at night no one answered even though we called several times. Cold and warm drinks are not included in your room, the internet does not work and the worst is the shower and sink water that taste and smell of iron. The food was delicious and the place as I said was special and beautiful but not worth its price, we were very disappointed !!
Excellent, like wanted and cozy place, really five stars, no entertainment, namely relaxation, the impression of a large spa salon 😀
A beautiful place to recommend! Near the golf course so undoubtedly the perfect location for gamers !!! Its worth !!
This is a paradise for hermits !!! There is everything to relax and forget about the problems and generally about the world around us. Jungle, ocean and silence !!!
It could not be better! Resort, staff, food, etc. - great!
I recommend great !!!!
Very friendly staff. Guaranteed privacy. Top kitchen.
Very pleasant quiet place, the absolute relaxation
Paradise on Earth
Woochwalsham ... definitely a place for a honeymoon
Few sites youll find like this one
