High quality of service and accommodation. Building up-kept and maintained very well. Manager was a man of high class and character, he was extremely accommodating.Room was cozy and very clean — AC worked perfectly.Would definitely recommend this hotel. Also, perfect location!

Is a nice place to stay in Stone Town. Exactly in the city center, good AC, friendly & welcoming staff, clean rooms and towels. The only disadvantage we encountered was the noisy bed, cracking at every move. For sure you can easily stay here for few nights, when visiting the town. Thank you!

Great location in the middle of Stone Town with a lovely view from the roof top terrace. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful in organizing tours and recommending restaurants. The room was on the ground floor next to the lobby, so it was a little bit noisy. But it was clean and comfortable.

Very nice hotel in the heart of Stone Town. The rooms are nice and clean and even the aisles have a lovely furniture. The hotel is a bit hidden and has no majectic front, but on the inside it looks marvelous. The staff is very polite and helpful. Breakfast is served on the roof top and tastes great. You can choose from a menu and have a fresh fruit buffet. You can reach all of Stone Town by feet. I dont know why anybody would choose another place in Stone Town (except you want to pay twice the price for a beach front hotel). Laundry service is available but very expensive.

Positive:-Very very good service at the reception and during the breakfast-Room was good, bed was comfortable and big with mosquitoes nets.-Warm water in the shower-Very good position, in the middle of the center, we went everywhere by footNegative:-Bed sheets were not very clean, was not so pleasant to use it after one day agin.-Towels were not so fresh, but we think is because of climate.-Floor in the bathroom and shower were not clean-We didn’t have a good view, next to the hotel is other house.-Breakfast was simple and not so many varieties.For African Standard 4*

We LOVED our stay in August. We stayed in Stone Town for nine days. The staff in Al Minar is amazing. Always friendly, outgoing, willing to help in any situation! We often stayed at the reception for a little chat which we enjoyed so much. When we needed a doctor, they had great advice. The shuttle service was on point and the hotel took care of a good rate. The breakfast was diverse and delicious. The rooms were cleaned every day and very comfortable.You can easily walk anywhere you want to because the hotel is located very central. Fabulous hotel tucked away in one of Stonetowns narrow streets. This old hotel is well preserved and has a pleasant roof space where breakfast is served. The owners and staff and exceptionally helpful.Great location from which to explore stone Town and beyond. Very close to the main tourist area and larger hotels. Also close to the ocean for those who want an early morning dip. For non tourists it wont take long to get off the well trodden path to find a different Zanzibar. Would for sure stay here again.Point to note, no hotels in Zanzibar have elevators. If you have mobility challenges request a low floor.

I had a really good experience with Al Minar. Big shout out to Santosh the manager. He treats his guest very well and makes good recommendations.While the property is not luxurious (as you can probably tell from the price per night) its very good quality offering for what you pay.Positives:- Comfortable bed- Clean room and toilet- Good breakfast- Amazing level of service and hospitality- Excellent value for money

Excellent location. Just in front of Hyatt. You can go have drinks and supper at Hyatt in the evening and watch the sun set. Best sunset view in StoneTown. The rooms were great with a Aircon. Breakfast was limited, but filling. The only issue we had with the room was bedbugs. We carried bed bug spray and they also spray the rooms every night. They didnt spray one night and the bugs kept us awake.

Just cheap with a good look cation to explore Stone Town.The reception was nice and friendly and did a good job in helping with tour guides and transportation. The room was clean some items like the Moskito net would need some overhaul.There are two major things the hotel need to improve.The breakfast was just terrible. We have been to other places on Sansibar where the waiter came to our table and ask about eggs, coffee etc. The Al-Minar has a buffet but there is not much to eat. Some people did get a fright egg but we where not sure how they managed to get this...Most shocking was the cleanliness of the dishes and cups where you can find still food from the previous guests. Also the entire interior would need some maintenance and cleaning. But have a look yourself on the pictures. Sorry this is an absolute no go!Secondly we asked about late check out. We got told two days before checking out that we are to early to ask about that. In the day before leaving we asked again and confirmed to leave around 4 pm. On our last day we got a call at three from the hotel manager that we have to leave the room in the next 20 minutes otherwise we would need to pay. Well we where surprised about the mind change and got to the reception where the manager told us our late check out has not been agreed. After a solid conversation about customer service with them we understood they did have a miscommunication in between themselves. However, the discussion was disappointing and the behavior too.

Everything was great we stayed here for one night and the staff was so friendly. They also arranged a shuttle from the airport early in the morning and every was great. Thanks to all of the Al-Minar staff!

They are not honest:Booked a double room for single stay. My friend went up with me to help with luggages (no elevator), stayed 15min and left.Got charged double while checking out even she only stayed 15min on the afternoon!One star for good location but hard to find parking if you hired a car.

I cannot sing enough praises for Santosh and his wonderful team at Al-Minar. They made me feel very welcome here in Stone Town and they could not do enough to make sure my stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Especially Sebastián at the front desk. They even found space for me to extend by two nights during the busy New Year Period. Asante sana!!!

After 15 days around tanzania, even in Safari, probably this is the worse: high expectation for the booking rate but big delusion- the first place where WiFi didnt work at all. Even in the safari in the middle of nothing was working.- TV not working at all: I didnt want TV and I didnt expect this, but there was and I tried: no channel and screen view was terrible. Why to put I dont know.- breakfast was enough...- good location was the unique pro- our room was in ground floor, super smell of closed .For the money I have spent I was expecting much more.I was thinking to have low standards with low prices, but all around we spent really a lot for poor standards. More than 60 dollars in Africa I consider quite expensive.

The hotel is located in a quiet side street in the center of Stone Town. All attractions are within 30 minutes walk. We took a superior room - quiet, clean, pleasant environment. A varied and good breakfast is served on the rooftop.

We stayed at Al Minar for 2 weeks. This is a good place to stay for a small budget without great demands on the hotels good condition. Unfortunately we had bad luck with the water the last 3 days. The tank was probably dirty and so the water could not be used even after filling it up. Unfortunately, the staff wasnt very behind. We were also very disappointed when it came to advice on the subject of the corona test. At times like this, I expect my hotel to give me such important information at the reception and not from my taxi driver.What it ripped out of course was in any case the terribly nice gentleman at breakfast! He responded to every special request.Next time we would probably only come for a few days and then go straight to a resort on the beach.

Small room, with 2 suitcases you dont move. The mosquito net on the bed broke off and was not usable, at 19 the maids sprayed the DDT against mosquitoes and it was impossible to stay in the room if you do not want to get intoxicated. Breakfast was mediocre and poorly cared for, only fruit was excellent. The location is in the heart of Stone Town and if in some ways it is comfortable and close to everything, everything around it is horrible. A few meters away there is a mosque and at 5 oclock there is the muezzins alarm, behind it there is an open-air dump and in the alley next to it there are the hens that scratch around on the street. Still in the alley next to it there is a ruined building held up by wooden poles. Walking at night is not the best. The hotel taxi driver, coming to pick me up at the airport, tried to get paid $ 15 even though the transfer was included through Booking (even if maybe he didnt know ...?). The only very positive thing is the staff, always attentive, kind and helpful. Recommended only for a night of passage, there is much better in Stone Town.

I stayed 4 nights in this quiet hotel. Located in the historic center in a quiet location near the beach, convenient for excursions to the nearby islands. Good breakfast on the terrace. The restaurant only serves breakfast. To dine a wide choice of restaurants nearby, even one on the sea that I recommend, at the nearby gardens (meeting place for locals and tourists). Services and excellent cleaning.

The hotel is really good. I dont know what the other accommodations will be like, but I dont need it either. The rooms are well equipped, the bed is comfortable, the breakfast on the terrace is blunt and tasty, the staff that runs it friendly and attentive, and the location is perfect.

Super personalized and pleasant attention from the reception to the manager. The photos make it look much better than it looks in real life, especially the terrace area on the top floor and where food is served. Really, the view of other roofs that are not exactly beautiful, however, is pleasant, quiet and the dedicated attention of the manager makes it very pleasant. The rooms with exceptional mosquito nets.

The staff is just super, very friendly and help to navigate in the city, they will tell you where the best exchanger and where to eat, answer all questions about the city. Organized free transfer from the airport. The rooms are clean, with air conditioning, but small and without a balcony, overlooking the adjacent wall.
