I did not stay at this place but went twice to restaurant! Food was very delicious, particular and we truly enjoyed it! Staff is very friendly and even tho the prices are on a higher end-I believe it is worth it! Location is just stunning!

We stayed nearby and walked over for dinner our last evening on Zanzibar. It was the perfect end to the trip. Not only is the location unique and beautiful, the food was terrific. The chef and staff were very kind. The price is very for the quality of food and preparation. I would highly recommend a meal here at the very least.

This is one of the most amazing places of the world. We immediately fell in love once we arrived. A perfect location to get rid of stress. The bungalows are made with such great details and the staff is super friendly. A big complement also to the manager who showed us around and explained everything. Such a friendly person and many thanks for the upgrade we received to stay in the Sultan lodge. Not to forget the candle light dinner on the private patio next to the refreshing pool. A really great place to go !

A unique and beautiful (and peaceful) place with fantastic staff and delicious food.We went there only for a birthday meal with my wife and we couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate.From booking via being greeted upon arrival and enjoying the meal all the way to the birthday cake & song by the lovely staff it was a flawless experience.To top it off, I got to play a few rounds of Bao with a security gentleman whilst waiting for the taxi to take us back to our villa!Special thank you to Margarita who took the booking, welcomed us and stopped by to entertain us with a little background of the place and Bella, who was taking care of us and was just a joy to talk to:) Also to the rest of the staff for great hospitality, amazing food and the best Dawas we’ve had in Zanzibar! Great work, guys!And let’s not forget Maaji, the cat princess(those eyes!) and two lovely dogs Ara & Luna. There are three more cats there, all fluffy and beautiful but Maaji made sure she got all the attention.

Beautiful place. A paradise on the island of Zanzibar. An intimate place for people who value the beauty of nature. A place like a ⁶ ****** hotel in Dubai. I will gladly come back. A today visit to this magical place was the essence of the entire holiday. 11/10 .

Food is delicious, room is gorgeous w great view & wonderful bathtub & lots of space (the large villa room), the pets are adorable and so friendly and as an animal lover I was very happy to see that they were so well taken care of, the managers did everything they could to help w all our random requests. Of 5 hotels we stayed at in Zanzibar this one was my favorite :)

Ok this is most probably the best restaurant in Zanzibar or at least one of te top three in Zanzibar.Food quality and taste is 10/10 , the only place that I fely am eating quality food with great taste.The only place that gives you a feeling of quality similar to London and Dubai.

Receptionist was very unwelcoming and insisting that entry wasnt allowed without being a resident and/or with a confirmed restaurant booking. Very odd but I guess thats the rules so we decided with our pack off 8 people to go eat somewhere else.. shame as its a lovely location

This place had amazing view and amazing food. I had enjoyed the crab pasta and my friends the sea urchin pasta. We also did the prawn appetizer and an octopus appetizer. The drinks were a little weak as I got the rum in a coconut but otherwise, food was amazing. Additionally, we great service. Juma was our server and he served us well—slightly aggressive in asking for reviews but happy to oblige.One thing to note, in order to get to the restaurant during low tied, you may need to cross in low level water by foot. They have boat service during high tide but we had to walk in water both ways so you may want to wear shorts or a dress with flip flops or sandals. At the restaurant, they gave us a towel to wipe our feet afterwards. I unfortunately wore long tight pants that wouldn’t go over my calf. Either case, nice little adventure. I would highly recommend this place.

Our experience began with a ride over in a traditional wooden fishing boat at high tide. We were warmly welcomed and shown around. We were then seated at a quiet table with a great view of the ocean and sunset. The service was top notch, candle light romantic atmosphere, and seafood platter was a wonderful way to experience local, fresh seafood.

It was an amazing experience, especially for the location, friendliness of the staff and the stunning view. I recommend going there at a time close to sunset. We had the seafood platter and everything besides the octopus was fine, but nothing special and kind of expensive when compared with same standards restaurant in Zanzibar (The Rock, Beach House). The cocktail drinks we had were also far from amazing, but going to the Island is an experience you cannot miss.

The island Pongwe is such a nice place! The location on its own mini island is so cool: watching the waves during low tide it going for a beach walk during high tide is really special. The ocean is super clean and a snorkeling / sailing tour on one of the local dhows is a must do!The hotel itself is also great with just 5 or 6 rooms we got to enjoy lots of privacy and tranquility. The rooms are well equipped and very clean and there everything you need (or not need: there’s no WiFi in the rooms which I personally enjoyed a lot ;-) ) . We stayed 3 nights at a regular room and 1 night at the villa which was amazing! The villa is much bigger and airy and you get even more privacy. The decor inside is simply beautiful. But What makes this place extra special are the owners and the whole crew! Everyone is so friendly and warm - we felt immediately at home and were super sad to leave. The team created something truly unique! Also not to forget the two island dogs Ara and Luna who are so charming and always up for a cuddle :-) if you’re extra lucky, they also go for a beach walk or even a swim with you!

Stay away, these guys totally ruined the Tanzania experience before it even started. Despite having booked at booking com on 7-day cancellation term far in advance we started getting contacted by them, over the course of the last week (still a month before the holiday) demanding the amount in full to be paid right now and that is around 900 euro per night and threatening to cancel our reservation alltogether if we do not.Be aware that booking or other sites do not guarantee you your refund for COVID19 causes they direct you to property policy, the property policy of these guys clearly says - if you fail to show up, you loose all the money.Add rumours of Tanzania going into lockdown for new year and xmas and you do get the picture.Having said that, the property even made several attempts to actually charge the full amount to the credit card in violation of the booking terms and after failing to do so informed booking we had wrong credit card details. It is still one month before the date and conditions say “pay at property, free cancellation 7 days before”Wasted time and emotions we could have booked a more ethical alternative a month ago, now left with fewer (but hopefully more decent) options.P.S. after a complaint to the booking site they confirmed the hotel was in violation of the published booking policy.

A unique place to stay - That is simply the soul of this place.The breathtaking sunsets and sunrises together with the feeling of the tides coming and going. Together this concludes an amazing setting for a special holiday.We stayed at The Island for 8 days at the end of a 6 weeks roundtrip. Naturally there is so much to say, so I can only recommend you to try it!The staff and the managers are very welcoming and all of them are trying there best to welcome your needs.The service is high and there is no crowds since they just have 5 Bungalows. A wonderful retreat, right in the middle of Pongwe, Zanzibar most privative area ! We suggest to occupy the Sultan Villa, a fully African decorated suite with an incredible bath with a sea view. We loved the stylish cuisine (swahili and continental) and will be back to try the spa (very reasonable rates). An unique resort located on a big rock surrounded by the deep blue Indian Ocean. The Manager and his wife are outstanding hosts, ready to tailor made your stay according to your expectations.

Beautiful peaceful island. Only 5 rooms. We stayed in the Sultan villa which is big one & absolutely beautiful. The food is absolutely great too. Nice and relaxing way to sirens a few days (particularly after a few crazy days in Paje!) 😂

The hotel occupies an entire small island in a wonderful environment, very quiet. An ideal place to relax.It has only five rooms. Two of them facing the coast, two facing the ocean (all four at the same price) and one suite also facing the ocean.The restaurant has sensational cuisine, very well prepared and presented dishes.The attention is exquisite, all the staff of 10. I want to highlight especially Juma and Anna.If you plan to stay here, make sure that they do not give you one of the rooms facing the coast, they are an oven, the sea breeze does not reach them, you cannot be in them, neither inside nor on the terrace.A hotel out of 10 if I had been staying in another room. Of suspense, considering the price it has, if you stay in the same room as me.

Great stay on this little islet away from the crowds and noise. This lodge with only 5 bedrooms is a little paradise. The team under the direction of Margarita, always attentive, is very kind. Inventive and quality cuisine with good products. 7 idyllic days.

We arrived on The Island during low tide and we immediately fell in love with it!Wonderful welcome from the team and the bubbly manager. We were lucky enough to have a sea view room rather than a bay view, nice surprise!We were planning on doing nothing and enjoying this amazing place and thats what we did! The room was very nice, the amenities sufficient. Only the mattress deserves to retire =).The views wherever you are on the island are stunning. At low tide, take the opportunity to stroll in the distance and observe the algae crops. Sunrises and sunsets are undoubtedly romantic. Finally to finish, we enjoyed all the dishes of the restaurant during our stay only the music was sometimes a little ibiza style. If you are looking for a little unusual break, I advise you to stay there for a few nights.We therefore end on a note of 4.5 / 5!

Idyllic place to relax and forget about everything. Very friendly and attentive staff. Very varied and very good menu. We will repeat in the future.

We came there for lunch one midday in June. The meal was delicious. Perfectly presented and the taste was there.The staff are very cheerful and friendly.The setting is extraordinary.Be careful of the tide anyway, but a boat can bring you back to the beach if necessary.We were lucky to be almost alone in the restaurant (covid!).We went back there one evening for an aperitif.Nothing to say !!!

A great place with a beautiful view of the azure ocean, amazing cuisine and excellent service. A very varied menu with a large assortment of seafood, some of which can only be tasted here. We came to the restaurant on foot, during low tide, in the late afternoon we returned to the shore by boat. I recommend booking your seats in advance, as the restaurant is popular with tourists. For me, this place will remain unforgettable, because immediately after visiting it, I was offered an offer. 🥰 I will be happy to come back here again and will recommend it to other travelers.

We stayed for 4 nights. The hotel is fine, but it does not deserve all the praise from the reviews:- the small canoe which takes you to the island is in a sorry state, we arrived soaked;- we arrived during religious holidays, the opposite island was very noisy and in the evening we had to sleep with earplugs; also the sound of the waves wakes you up at 6 am (for information)- the hotel is owned by an Italian but is managed by two European expatriates who live on the island in a nice cabin next to the other guests. They have the good life: they eat in restaurants, invite their families, are served like the others. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS. It is both embarrassing and disappointing. Also: why not let the Zanzibari run a hotel? They are confined to menial tasks, and must serve these two people (cleaning their cabin etc.)- We asked for a taxi to take us to the next village (because there is nothing to do in Pongwe): 40 dollars. Abusive! Further we got for 10 dollars.- We were not bathed the entire stay (difficult to access, dirty beach with waste)- We were enormously bored and regret this passage on the island. There really is nothing to do around.

We wanted to visit this island and the restaurant on it. Asked to inspect the restaurant and the menu ... The clumsy and not black mass did not let in the restaurant, said first you need to order something. I asked: only by prior arrangement?, He replied no, ordered now and come in, and look after the order, its a private island. Such not hospitable employees need to be changed! One star, I cant put more! I DO NOT RECOMMEND BECAUSE OF THE INHOSPITAL MASS. I ask the owner to pay attention to this! People hire a taxi to look at your island and dine at your restaurant, and this employee interferes and hinders it!

Spectacular site. Decent food, not wonderful, at a very good restaurant price in any European capital. Many problems to pay: they do not accept dollars older than one year, they do not accept euros in exchange (they add a fee), they do not allow mixed payments in euros and dollars. With a card there is no problem.We have returned and encountered even more and very unpleasant problems to fix. Problems with all means of payment. Finally we have ended up paying much more than the account was because they did not accept dollars prior to a date, problems with the dataphone, and the same problems with the euros with its revolutionary rate. If you go take only recent printing dollars or you will be treated in a way that is not in keeping with one of the most expensive places in all of Tanzania.

A piece of paradise in Zanzibar ruled by a magical, amazingly friendly Margarita!We came to this place on the recommendation of Alice, a girl who organizes wonderful excursions on the island.Theislandpongwe is a thoughtful concept of eco-relaxation, embodied with Italian flavor. Beauty in everything, unity with nature.Excellent restaurant, fresh sea urchins. Unusual presentation of this dish, I really liked it.The seafood pasta was also delicious.

When planning its route around the island, the hotel was marked as a must visit, not as a hotel, but as a restaurant.Most hotels in Zanzibar refuse to let strangers into their territory (as our tour of the island showed). But The Island Pongwe Lodge became an exception - they gave permission to visit their restaurant (provided that we agree to order from the menu for $ 15 per person).Now about the restaurant.The view is stunning, at low tide, at high tide. We managed to catch these two phenomena. You can leave things and go down to the ocean for a swim.The menu is wonderful, small. We ordered crab soup and seafood platter for two. Very, very tasty. Soup is a work of art 😍 The grilled seafood is amazing. Lobsters are great. Decent dish.Staff. We were served by Juma. A very pleasant man and courteous. He answered all our questions about dishes in detail, he even tried to convey the taste👌We were pleased with the visit. And if they read my review to the end, then be sure, when you are near, take a look at this wonderful island. You will not regret it, 100%.

We stopped at this nice restaurant, located on a small island. We ate delicious food, drank natural juice. We came here on foot from the shore, and sailed by boat, and it was only about an hour. Here you can also swim near the restaurant, the depth allows.

We drove by and accidentally spotted this place. This is a privat mini-hotel and restaurant. You can’t just go to a restaurant to drink coffee. The minimum check must be $ 15 per person. Honestly, its worth it :) very tasty !!!! Very direct). Took a salad with octopus and tuna carpaccio - just a pleasure)! Caught during low tide - therefore, we watched as local colorful women look for algae, and the kids have fun in the water. Perfect place for lunch :)

It was very tasty, really! I ordered crab soup and tuna tartare, also fresh from fresh fruits and its just wow! While we were having lunch, the road along which we went to the restaurant was flooded, there was a rush, apparently there is a man from the establishment who is specially transporting people to the other side on a makeshift boat.
