Amazing view from the upper balcony.Place is calm and there is AC.We had a room on the top of the stairs. It was clean and large. The entrance of the hostel is not easy to found but you can ask to the owner before to come. Not spectacular but good location if you stay in stone town. You can reach every interesting place by foot.

A perfect place for flatland rumanins, aka frenchmans! No for your aliens either! Not a single bin, mirror, warm water, no any sign that this is an accomodation. Only the empty walls in the form, what proof what Islam made when conquere, get or take. The portugese builded this city and was kicked out in 1699. Nowadays are in worst state then anno.

Balcony House is an authentic Zanzibarian experience. The house is a beautiful, historical building located in a bustling part of Stone Town. You can walk across the street to a bakery from the entrance, or travel one minute on foot to two great cafés, or more importantly, an ATM. There are wonderful shops with souvenirs made by local artisans on the same street and you also turn the corner for a swim in the ocean. Balcony House is within a 7-minute walk to anywhere in the old part of town; museums, shops, restaurants, clubs, ATMs, day and night markets, the beach, and much more.I spent two and a half weeks in Zanzibar with Balcony House as my home base while I came and went from different parts of Tanzania and Zanzibar. Laurine & Side were amazing hosts, they were prompt when communicating and were always available for airport/ other hotel pick-ups and drop-offs. They even coordinated tours for me while I was there, Jozani Forest, Nakupenda Island, Prison Island, Spice Tours, etc.; all I had to do was ask and it was taken care of.Since I was traveling alone, I wanted to stay in a place where I could meet other people while on the Island. Through the Balcony House, I met amazing people from all over the world, people with whom I will have long-lasting relationships. Balcony House was the perfect home for me in Zanzibar and that is how I felt staying there--at home. Not only do I highly recommend this place for its value, friendliness, comfort, and cleanliness, I will be coming back again. Thanks, Laurine and Side, you’re the best!

Nice budget accomodation in Stonetown. Walking distance to the beach and friendly owners. The beds were a bit not so comfortable and it has a sharing toilet and bathroom. It’s safe and not bad for a night or two stay.

They made us pay half the room price for a room that we reserved but upon viewing refused to take.it had no windows to the outside, only to the public hallway. not a window you want to have open at night, and without aircon a no-go.making us pay for this cancellation upon seeing the room is simply bad manners. i cannot recommend the place.

Advertised as B&B but really should be listed as traveller hostel. Basic rooms with shared bathroom but very clean, ideally situated right in the hub of old stonetown with helpful staff. Great for the last night before the flight home!

Once you are there, it is very likely that you will very much like this place. Make sure you know your way, though. Balcony House sends out a useful description upfront. The big balcony overlooking the sometimes noisy Kenyatta Road, feels special not just because of the lovely design. You may immediately want to chill there for a while after some hours exposed to the heat of Stone Town. And try out this place when the usually heavy rain sets in. Very relaxing. As an accommodation, Balcony House basically is a part of one of the many palace-like buildings that make Stone Town so appealing. So expect a big hall and high ceilings. The main room and the guest rooms have big and a couple of small fans, bathrooms are shared. The best thing about Balcony House were the people who practically manage this place. They were always approachable, knowledgeable and super friendly. As to the rest, bear in mind that in such a structure, the ad-hoc community that typically is to be renewed with every new guest arriving, very much depends on how you deal with this. As such, we found this place to be intriguingly well equipped to keeping you happy and feel welcome. Finally, you can also order a freshly prepared breakfast for about $5 per person. The main ingredients will then be bought for you at the local market. Expect a variety of fruits of the season, some delicious dishes like pancake or salad and the usual tasteless coffee ( too bad that this is so common still) and a thin tea. You will quickly forget about these tiny shortcomings, however, if you are lucky enough to be treated to a freshly made juice, shake or smoothie.

In the heart of stonetown this spacious accommodation almost felt like home with the friendly and helpful people around! The staff organised a last minute trip to Prisoners Island for us at a supergood price and we even cooked some local dinner all together. The open spaces invited to chat with the other guests and the minimalistic style provided everything we needed. Did not have any problems with the noise. Would gladly come back!

The Location in the town is perfect - the House itself aint. The price for what you get is simply to high - literally its just a bed in a big room, nothing else. Staff is friendly, but verrrrrrry slow.

I strongly do not recommend staying in this place. The stay was charged in advance before we were given a chance to see the room. From the moment we entered the facility, we felt very awkward. The facility manager told us to take our hats off, he was very cool towards us. We booked a room with air conditioning which was not working. After reporting this fact, both the manager and the owner did not feel that the problem was solved in a way that would be beneficial to both parties. Ultimately, we were forced to cancel our booking and change our hotel. We wasted a lot of time and nerves, we felt like intruders, not like guests.

The hotel fulfills its role, it is rather well located. However, the rooms lack a little charm and are very hot, despite the fans. The reception is very nice.In the end, for the price, its a pretty good choice, you can not have everything.

Spacious clean guesthouse. The rooms have huge beds and 2 fans. All windows open, but mosquito nets only on beds. There is a kitchen and a terrace with a balcony to the street. Hot water, washing machine, fridge. The entrance is through the courtyard, there is no sign, so its hard to find.Especially not noisy, in the afternoon, around 14.00 a traffic jam under the windows is formed, but quickly resolves.Located on the main road - to the embankment a few minutes in a straight line, to the house of Mercury, alcohol store - 3 minutes.
