The location was great. Beach facing. The Famous Forodhani just across. Stone town behind the hotelThe hotel itself was decent, bit on the expensive side. But location was great. Will definitely choose mizingani when I am next in Zanzibar
Superb location. Walking distance to the ferry, Forodhani food stalls, Curio Market, Spice market and other restaurants. The staff are patient and willing to assist. Buffet breakfast was 3/5 in terms of variety but good quality. Rooms good standard, full AC and wifi availability. Enjoyed the pool. Better to check in afer 12 Noon. Our rooms werent ready in the morning.
LOVED IT! Stay Here if you want to go back in time. I just wished I bought a Genie outfit to take pictures. This is right out of an Aladdin movie! The rooms are beautiful. I had a triple room with balcony facing the pool. Breakfast is included. There is NO bar but you can buy liquor at the local liquor store. The hotel is across the street from the beach and walking distance from the Ferry.
Food was good. view Amazing from balcony. Khalil Ismail staff there looked after us very well.
Dirty, run down, poor service, average breakfast. Tembo better in every aspect, in particular for families due to larger pool, location on the beach, better breakfast, more space.
The hotel has good rooms and nice location. But after arriving from a long journey at night the staff was unfriendly and he carried the luggage for 3 floors and we went after him, after 2 days I figured out there was an elevator by accident and nobody told us.The air conditioner wasnt working for the first night as well, after that it was repaired. But it was a good stay, I arrived at 11 pm and the staff might be tired.
Good food, great views and amazing serviceWe had a great time spending an afternoon at the hotel restaurant
Great location. Nice rooms. Little bit noisy in the night. Breakfast ok.
They are amazing, so friendly and helpful with booking any trips in and around Stone town. I felt so safe.
Excellent choice for your stay in Stone Town. The location is perfect. The decoration and the architecture is wonderful! Very comfortable beds and amenities in the room. Everyday you will find bottle of water in your fridge and every evening stuff comes and spray the room for mosquitoes. Breakfast is good with many choices of fresh fruit! Strongly recommend!!!
Charming old style hotel conveniently located on the waterfront and within walking distance of the ferry terminal.
Absolutely wonderful place! Highly recommended for all types of travellers: single, couple, famiky, long stay, short stay, whatever, you will always find a cosy atmosphere there and a wonderful service. Everyone is super friendly and helpful and its a pleasure even to have a small talk with staff.Location is perfect: 5-10 min to all the tourist attractions, shops, cafe, Sea port is opposite and you can hire a boat for all types of traveling.Despite the fact that hotel located near the port and the promenade its very quiet there.Additionaly i should admit general style and furniture - absolutely amazing. Its a pleasure to look at it and discover all the details of the desighn.Special thanks to the restaurant staff - pancakes, omlette, chicken Curry and coffee is absolutely amazing.Onky the best experience.
Lovely pool and delicious buffet + view. Gloverant recommends
A very nice hotel, stylish, colonial. Amazing interiors. Inside the hotel patio there is a swimming pool, up to 3 meters deep. Enjoyable breakfast. A great place for walks along the ocean and the maze of streets of Stone Town. The bed creaks a little at least. The room has a fridge, air conditioning and a fan.
Excellent hotel in a historical building excellent staff!
Beautiful historic building with so much personality. It is right at the centre of stone town and ideal for getting around most tourist spots. They have a nice pool. The staff are helpful and friendly. The food is freshly prepared and does take time to be done. But worth it. We took a back room to avoid the noises from the Seaview facing rooms which are by the roadside. They do not sell alcohol however and you may need to take your own and drink in your room.
It was okay, but Bed was so annoying and noisy, it has poor condition of lift which is almost 50 years old, doesnt have rooftop Restaurant, has a good quality food and rooms service, Wi-Fi was good enough
Nice place to stay located opposite the sea front and have nice view
This hotel was perfect. It was a short 5 minute walk from the ferry, which included the walk down the pier. From here we were able to walk the whole of Stone Town. The breakfast was really nice. We ended up coming back for lunch. We left our bags with the desk clerk until time to leave for the airport.
Nice place for staying and there break fast is good
Lovely secret pool, spiral stairs, and timeless artifacts that take intrepids and romantics far, faraway! #auric
Loved the spacious room (Livingstone) overlooking sea.Liked the location in a less touristy part of town so one isn’t swamped on leaving the hotel by touts.Interior spaces felt like stepping back in time, Excellent helpful staff, wonderful pool.. had two dinners... yes, one took a while, as another reviewer complained but it’s Zanzibar... where are you rushing off to? Other arrived very quickly. Breakfasts were fine with great and good selection of fruit. This was our 6th stay in Stone Town over a 14 year period. We’ve stayed at a number of good hotel with the Dhow Palace being our former favourite, it has now been replaced b.itsisterhotelhotel ...
Lovely quiet, tasteful hotel in a great location!
Alhamdulillah... very friendly staff and good facilities. Beach front and seaview restaurant along with pool adds to the unbeatable deal that you cant afford to miss. Thank a lot Mizingani Hotel and Staff
This place is near ti the old fort in forodhan zanzibar... it has very attractive view of the ocean.... come and visit ❤
Nice location...the hotel i would say is below a 3 star
This is a Historical place. Rooms have names of prominent people who lived in the past. It is a place to be.
Hotel servises are good and the position of the hotel is at seafront and about 100m frim Forodhani park
Well maintained and give you the picture how people used to live during older times, with the type of furniture and settings.the most attractive thing is the lift, if you ride, you will go back to the era of detective and espionage movies, like james bond
0930am breakfast finish is ridiculous. Rooms on the top floor seem to have uninsulated ceilings, like sleeping in a tin shed when it rains. Extraordinarily loud. Hotel has no sound insulation anywhere, inside or out, so expect to hear everything.Comfy room and helpful staff though. Beautiful building.
Gorgeous hotel, spacious rooms, large beds and adorable balconies. Either youre overseeing your private hotel pool or the breathtaking ocean. The breakfast will keep you satisfied (7am-10am, included), several options, veg and non-veg. Very friendly and accommodating staff. When I was there, elevator was out of service but if you can take stairs, its only a 3 story hotel. Main doors are shut for security at night. Night market, Ferry Port and is literally outside the hotel. Airport is 10 mins by taxi. They have a sister hotel named Dhow Palace, 10 walk, also. (they have apartment style room options), but design wise, Mizingani is super cute.
We enjoyed this beautiful Islamic style hotel. Great location, friendly staff. Lovely pool which we enjoyed after hot days walking the streets of Stone Town. The rooms were large, comfortable and had a nice balcony (although no privacy on the balcony) overlooking the pool. We also thought the breakfast was very nice.
I love Mzingani Hotel. It has a beautiful Zanzibari vibe. The inner courtyard with the swimming pool. The sun beds and woodwork. Stunning view of the Indian ocean and sunsets
Mizingani is conveniently located in Stone Town within walking distance to the main attractions. The rooms are spacious and clean with air-conditioning and strong wi-fi and the restaurant is very affordable and has a beautiful view.I love the Arabic architecture, specially the indoor garden and the swimming pool surrounded by arches.I would recommend the rooms with sea view, there is a balcony with a sofa and chairs perfect to enjoy a beautiful sunset to the sound of the waves.Next to the hotel theres a music academy and in some balconies its possible to listen the students practicing, its really enjoyable if you appreciate music. In the other hand dont worry, its not possible to listen from the room. The calls to pray start early in the morning, around 5a.m and its possible to listen it from the room, but for us it wasnt a big problem because it doesnt last long and I actually liked it, it made me feel involved by the culture.
Nice hotel in the city near all points of interest. Its a historical building with antique furniture. Lots of history. Food is good and staff are friendly.NoteHotel does not serve alcoholRooms facing the seafront are very noisy hard to sleepThe lift was not working and stairs are very steep.Overall we had a good stay apart from noise from the nearby cultural center.Very nice sea views
We visited Zanzibar for a short stay of 2 nights (wish itd been longer!) and were so glad that we chose to stay at this hotel. It is the perfect location for your stay - right in the heart of the city, by the shore, across a beautiful park, next to historical landmarks and hardly a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal. There are quite a number of eateries in and around the park where you can enjoy local cuisines. Theres also one vegetarian restaurant 5-7 minutes walk from the hotel (shoutout to all vegetarians! :D). I mean what more could you ask?The rates were reasonable considering all the above perks. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. We were given a warm welcome with friendly smiles and welcome drinks. The rooms were clean and nicely maintained. The entire place screams old school. I especially observed that the doors were very old school, built from wood and carefully carved which was symbolic of the Sultan/Arab regime. My favourite part was the royal looking bathtubs in the bathrooms! (pictures attached). The hotel also has rooms named after historical figures with little posters hung outside each room with pictures and fascinating facts about these historical personalities. (Warning: Youd spend quite a while walking around the hotel reading the posters if youre a history buff like me!).We only had breakfast here - which was amazing too!By the end of our trip, we were already planning our next visit and stay at Mizingani Seafront!
Nice view of the waterfront from the breakfast room
Beautiful seafront hotel with a lovely sunrise and sunset view. The hotel is close to the forodhani area and the ferry or port. The hotel has an antique feel and finish to it. It is well maintained. The rooms are cosy and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is good with a range of choices from fruits to cereal to soups etc. Definitely a place worth visiting👌
Bed is perfect. Staff is very nice and kind. Clean and big room. Pool is just nice. Breakfast is much better then Tembo. Nothing to complain about. But in 4 days that i stayed there i didnt have 1 hot shower. NO HOT WATER?!? And i can not use the printer at the deadline of my project even when they said i could and i didnt have to worry. I would give 5+ stars but because of 2 major issues i dont give that.
This hotel has a great location across the street from the Indian Ocean but it is tired. The check in staff is a little surly. The room is large and the beds are good enough. The shower in our room worked well. The bathroom smelled musty. We had a pool view on the 2nd floor and heard critters on the roof. It’s really a 2 1/2 star hotel but giving it 3 stars because the housekeeping staff is nice, it has a great view of the Indian Ocean from the restaurants and is well located. My companion and I got food poisoning from another restaurant and they were nice to us once they saw that.Probably would not return here. The pool looked nice and was warm. They also have a little pool table.
Nice seafront hotel in Stonetown located very close to the ferry terminal. Rooms are comfortable and spacious with AC and balcony. Price was a decent deal (charged for the room and not per person compared to many other accommodations). Staff were pretty friendly. Had one meal at the restaurant which was okay, breakfast was good. Small, old style elevator is helpful for people with some mobility issues, but may not be fit for those with a wheelchair (few steps to many rooms).
Wow, these guys are simply extraordinary. My wife and I stayed a night in the Said Sultan room at the Mzingani Hotel and it was our best night in Zanzibar. I can’t start to point out exactly what they did right because they took everything into consideration. From my previous post, on Ndame beach lodge, you should know that I am a very critical human being but these guys definitely blew me off my feet. This comes with a full unwavering recommendation for anyone looking for a hotel in Stone town Zanzibar. Just a walkable distance from the ferry station, you’ll find this amazing hotel gracefully designed in Moresque style. From the management to the kitchen to the room service, laundry and housekeeping team, these guys were just perfect.Thank you Mzingani for helping me forget the horror that I experienced in the night I spent at Ndame Beach lodge in Paje and I can’t wait for the next time I grace your wonderful aboard.
Great hotel right next to the harbour, on the shoreline boulevard. The building is old residence of a rich Arabic merchant, and the past is present everywhere in the building. Service and breakfast were also good. Can recommend, perfect location in Stone Town. Downstairs a small restaurant where you can get a decent pizza, and street food stands a hundred meters down the street in evenings.
Nice hotel closer with beach
Friendly staff. Good breakfast . Comfortable room. Nice ocean frount location. Many tourist places and ferry nearby. Many restaurants near by. . Book directly with hotel for good rate in advance. My rating a 3 star hotel. Pleasant and happy stay.
From living in the U.K. this is a magically peaceful Moroccan hotel located on the seafront close to the ferry terminal. The 2 family rooms we stayed in were great for a family of four and were good value. The included breakfast buffet was expansive and delicious as were the 2 occasions when we ordered dinner to eat by the most atmospheric hotel pool I have ever seen. The staff could not be more helpful and polite. The hotel is located on the edge of all the ancient attractions of Stone Town; it has a colonial feel with beautiful wooden staircases, fountains and verandas to match. Highly recommend.
The staff here is very nice. Food is good. Ambiance is lovely. Perfect location.
A very characterful riad-style hotel with beautiful dark wood doors and a shady central courtyard with pool. The staff were very welcoming, the room was spacious, distinctive and clean, and the general atmosphere was relaxing. The location is perfect: on the sea front and perched on the edge of the old town. To top it off it was great value for money!
Unexpected delight when we saw our ocean view balcony, so beautiful we could have easily read a book, or done nothing but look out from there for hours. We did experience two incidents. Our vendor who served us at the night market was shamelessly arrested in front of us for overcharging despite the prices he quoted us being printed and discussed as acceptable before we were served. The next morning after a sound sleep on a very high bed the hotel arranged our transport to our next hotel. Our driver was speeding and arrested. It was a horrible incident where the police attempted to remove his taxi tag and the police were not talking to the driver to resolve. The driver drove off and the police caught up to him, dragged him out of the vehicle, while he protested and we looked on not knowing what would occur next! The police handcuffed the driver, put him in the passenger seat with us in the back seat and drove off with us without answering our question, where are you taking us? Our driver in handcuffs made arrangements for us to transfer. The police did not care about our questions or safety!!!. Just goes to say, not the hotels fault, but their contact was also no assurance for safe passage. Our vodacom phones also didnt serve us with poor connectivity when we needed it most.
Beautiful old hotel in elegant classic style. Spacey rooms with beautifully carved wooden furniture. Great location with sea view, close to the center and to the fish market. Very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast buffet.
Rich piece of history with excellent rooms and walking distance to the market on Fridays
The Mizingani Seafront Hotel is in a greatlocation in Stone Town. The building is beautiful with its: Middle Eastern arches; a relaxing courtyard for lounging and taking a dip in the pool; and a cute little fountain tucked just past the reception area. The Freddie Mercury room is very spacious, nicely decorated and has a large balcony facing the water. The attached restaurant serves pretty good food, though we only had one dinner and a breakfast there which we charged to our room and paid by credit card upon checkout. Lastly, the entire staff was friendly and made sure we were happy with our stay.
Perfect location near ferry port. Well maintained. Definitely not a four star hotel, Good for short stay.Friendly front office. They charge 3% service charge if you pay by credit card or debit card.
Its the most terrible hotel I have ever seen in my life. The stuff only treats you nicely if youre a white other wise this is not your hotel.Breafast is really bad, flies everywhere. The most tricky thing their bills in TZS (local money) but they charge your card in dollars, using a very low rate - simply they charge you 1.6 more because of the rate (I have different receipts for one item).DONT GO THERE
First time to Zanziber, came with a friend. Its a small island you can go everywhere by car, absolutely amazing, the hotel is located front of the sea, near a port. The area is very clean and nice with lovely coconut trees. The hotel room are very spacious and clean. The staff are very friendly with excellent service. The whole team are so humble and always available to help (Nabil, chef Msuri and abdullah are my pick) they have an outdoor swimming pool. The toilet are clean. The food is fantastic and cheap (main dish for £7 or 20000 shilling). The portion are very large compare to other restaurants I have visited locally. They have different items each day for breakfast buffet. I would definitely recommend this hotel for their amazing customer service and every team member are always there to answer your question or give you advice.Customer Service 5/5 Facilities 5/5 Food 5/5 Price 5/5 Location 5/5
Awesome sea front view of forodhani zanzibar unguja
Good location, very friendly staff, clean, beautiful. The breakfast was very tasty! Thank you!
Large rooms with unique furnishings. Beautiful view of the shore and all the activity there. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast with a view.
We loved our week long stay at the Mizingani. It has one of the best locations as it is so central to everything. We walked everywhere and no where is too far from this hotel. It faces the beach but behind the hotel is meandering paths that fascinate and inspire. Full of African art shops (find CC Art Gallery for a great deal), mosques, coffee houses and zanzibar t-shirts, it is buzzing and friendly place. In the other direction just a few minutes walk from the hotel is the Princess Salma Palace and museums and some good snack stops.Hubby and I travelled with 2 kids and had the family room which is a two bedroom unit with big balcony. The accomodation was very clean, had lovely steaming showers, fresh towels and comfortable beds. There is little for kids to do at the hotel, but thats fine as there is so much to do in the vacinity. The pool is nice and clean, but curiously there is a sign saying Please observe silence, which my kids promptly ignored, but no one was upset by them (most of the time they simply played catch with a ball in the pool).Staff were very friendly throughout the hotel and were chuffed when we tried to say a few words in Swahili, and they tried to teach the kids a few more phrases.I would recommend this hotel to friends and i would stay here again. Thanks Mizingani!
I would stay here again! Not a big hotel but everything is on point - rooms, bathroom, customer service & very lovely view of the sea from the restaurant. Its got a swimming and a pool table. I didnt regret staying here at all during my holiday. Its quite central as well: 3mins walk to Forodhani food market, shops are close by if you want to get souvenirs, you can catch a dhow to Prison Island just opposite the hotel and also Azam marine ferries to Dar es Salaam are 4mins walk away. 👍🏿
I have been here since the 14th sept and staying for 8 days! This is a fabulous hotel spotlessly clean and nothing whatsoever is too much trouble for the extremely friendly staff. Whenever I travel I always try out the local barber and one member of staff guided me thru the narrow streets for at least 10 mins to find it then stayed with me for more than half an hour till it opened. You can exchange money here and they will even break down your $100 bills for you! ( if you have any). Breakfast just metres from the sea was excellent with a mixture of ancient dhows and modern ships sailing past to keep you amused! A few tips, StoneTown is NOT cheap and for the back packer and older needs more comfort back packer bear this in mind!. Bring dollars (for the trips& bargain hard) and always keep a stack of low Ts for tips. Mainly all the tours quote dollars but you will find the poor guide you get dumped on will more than deserve a tip and I found anything was very much appreciated. Well back to the hotel it’s traditional and what we would call in the uk olde worlde and has loads of charm plenty hot water and much needed mosquito nets which at turndown time they give your room a gentle spray just to keep the blighters at bay!. If you choose this hotel you won’t be disappointed and you will get a better deal if you ring them direct, which I will do next time rather than use Expedia who wacked on a large amount of commission! Oh Mercury’s bar to your right and across the street about 1500m is very nice and has a fantastic band every Saturday night and will keep playing till you stop drinking :) . Jambo you say Jambo , mambo you say poaaaaa!
Good hotel, but at first gave us a wrong room, they changed it straight away. The food however was sadly not as great.
I want to go back!!! I love this hotel, the staff, hotel, the view, location is everything! And did i mention how awesome their food is?! Simply amazing all around.
Its an authentic hotel with Arabian style architectural on the heart of Stonetown Zanzibar. Hotel has very nice see wiev
A great Hotel comes with a view on the sea when eating you breakfast at the morning, it is near to all the great resources in stone town, you can almost prepare everything from this area...the most thing i liked in this hotel is the quality of food, it is estonicing and i really liked the staff because they are so cute and warm they could be so helpful if you dont really know the area....i recommend this one with my eyes closed !
Great Hotel with very nice rooms (Air Condition!) and historic interior. Beautiful view from the terrace during breakfast
Lovely, spacious rooms. Loved the Arabic feel to it. Although didnt stay long, enjoyed the comfort and location, perfect for exploring stone town.
Lovely hotel within a short walk of everything Stone Town. Stayed in a spacious room with wife and two boys and the beds might be the most comfortable on the island. Even better than Tembos--which were quite fantastic. Air Conditioning, fast (For Zanzibar) Wi-Fi, and a lovely pool. Lovely to watch the ocean over the included breakfast. We could hear music from the music school next door during the day, but it wasnt loud and was quite charming. I would recommend Mizingani Seafront for your visit to Stone Town.
Nice hotel for its price to stay for one- two times in the Stone Town.Be aware, there are mosquitos in the room
Only been there for an ice cream. Horrible experience. Bad taste and extremely small portion, which makes it the most expensive ice cream I ever had.
Endless stairs doesnt make access to the rooms easy but very nice personnel. Nice bathroom. Clean hotel but a little expansive for the service.
Great style and service, clean rooms.
Went for a dinner. Its ok.
Nice hotel. Breakfast was pretty good. Comfortable bed and nice room at the rear overlooking Stone Town. No bar or alcohol allowed.
Big comfy rooms and even bigger bathrooms with huge bathtubs, nice atrium pool, friendly stuff and great food made us very happy staying there... On perfect location near music school in old Stone Town.
What a magic place! We came here only for lunch. But we will come for sure as guests. You have a wonderful view by eating and service is quick. Prices are affordable!
Nice hotel in Zanzibar Stone Town
Well maintained building with welcoming staff members. The location is good moreover for tourists
