WARNING!Do not stay there! The manager, an Italian guy Danilo, is totally irresponsible! We were a group of friends and within the first day of stay 50 euro disappeared from one of our backpacks in the room. It later turned out that the door lock had been damaged and it was easy to enter the room. The worst was to come though: on the checkout we left our luggage at the reception at midday to take a two-hour walk only to come back and realize one of the backpacks – with a passport inside! – got stolen. Long story short: the security cameras which where there turned out not to be working, we had to go to the police and then to Dar es to the embassy for a new passport, on the way to which we learned – after two days – the backpack was found and supposedly was taken by mistake by a guests. However, Danilo failed to explain how on earth a guest did not realize for two nights he had mistaken a backpack – something that one uses pretty often. Moreover, he made us wait over two hours in Stone Town for the backpack, although we agreed an appointment in advance and it is less than an hour drive. On top of that, Danilo seemed to claim we were the problem, although it was our stuff that was stolen in a place kept by him. Eventually, we got the backpack just hours before our flight back home – needless to say the last days of holidays were a mess. Overall, the irresponsible attitude and ignorance of this guy makes us come back never again, which is a pity, cos the place is otherwise cosy (although in not a vibrant area), right on the beach, and the Tanzanian girl at the reception was friendly.
Mid sized nice hotel directly on the beach 🏖Hotel rooms fully equipped including hairdryer and bath cosmetics. Very nice stuff always willing to help. Good restaurant in the hotel with local as well as international cuisine. Reasonable prices.Uroa is quiet place in comparison with other places in Zanzibar so it can be good for family vacation or for people who dont need night life every day.

Overall, the worst experience Ive had on my honeymoonFrom bad room, management method, and solutionsAt first I found many problems in the room and I talked to solve it and I was very sad about the bad experience and I spoke that the price should be reduced and the response was that it will be reduced and all the time they say thier manager doesnt have time at all, The manager of the hotel is very arrogant.At the beginning of the problemsThe bathroom door and bathtub had many problems, and the toilet had problemsAnd they moved us to a room temporarilyHalf of our clothes were in one room and the other half in a second room, and we alternated between the two rooms, and this was fishyOne of the strange things I found when they finished cleaning the room and found them leaving the key in the room door outside and there were very valuable things in the room.And in the early morning one of the staff came to say the manager wants you to move the room and it was fixed early in the morning we hardly woke upAnd at night, we found out that the bathroom door was brokenAnd we found that we live in the bathroom as if it were a swamp of waterAnd when we spoke with the management about the key was in the door, the management said it wasnt their fault that they forgot our key on the door because the place is safe!!!, and it was necessary for us to move all our valuables from the first room to the second room, as the employee said, but that is illogical. All items, no matter how small, are valuable to me. She was arguing with us that not moving all our things was our fault and she was trying to evade responsibilityAnd really, the managers treatment was all growing up and escaping from our confrontation.If you want to waste your beautiful vacation I highly recommend the place.But overall, I wouldnt recommend this place
I would not recommend this. There is still construction so its noisy and the construction workers have a direct view to your balcony and pool so you barely have privacy, breakfast was nice, beach was good.
Beautiful welcoming spot on the beach! I never stayed the night, only to relax and have lunch. Service was wonderful and the food and drinks were really great! Pricing was decent. Perfect place if you just want to relax and float around in the warmest bluest most delicious ocean ever!! 💙 The beach stretches on quite far with bars and restaurants and resorts so theres enough activity yet still peaceful enough to just chill.
Moonshine Uroa Boutique hotel is absolutely amazing! Our family of 5 (kids aged 10,8 and 6)stayed at this lovely hotel for 7 days over Christmas. Firstly, staff is so friendly and ALWAYS goes the extra mile to make it special. Secondly, it is extremely beautiful, being so close to nature and walking out of your bungalow onto the beach is breathtaking and relaxing. Thirdly, whenever there was a maintenance issue they sorted it out immediately.Our kids loved this hotel, and just want to go back!!!!This is a 3 star hotel but over delivers in terms of flavorsome food (had dinner here every evening, explored some other restaurants during the day but still came back for delicious dinners) and huge portions.I have read some terrible reviews and was very sceptical, but we had an amazing holiday and will definitely go back to Moonshine.If you expect 5 star rooms, then dont come!!! BUT if you want to relax and experience Zanzibar at its best, you cant go wrong with this lovely gem.PS remember water shoes, makes walking and swimming so much easier!
Amazing place, I love the Seaview bungalow. I enjoyed the cool serene night in sync with sound of the waves splashing the shoreline. Thanks to Covid-19 the place is empty like abandoned it is a pity. The food is nice but expensive. The owners and staff are very homesome and hospitality is great.
Not to recommend! Be aware!! Fraud!The place might appear very nice, but if you need support and help then you are left alone and worse!In our case the hotel could not live up to their promise and provide the apartment we booked, accordingly to the description and pictures on the booking website.When we complained about this to management, there was a lot of discussion and finger pointing to other parties, until we figured out - not the hotel management- what we can do. (Hotel management offered a small discount, but for us it was not about the money, we wanted to enjoy our vacation as a family and not save some money)We agreed mutual with the Italian hotel manager that we can leave the hotel and pay for the 3 days we stayed at moonshine boutique hotel.We did pay with credit card and pin, but we did not get a proper invoice, where everything was listed, just the receipt with the whole sum, but we were so happy to leave that we didn’t think much of this.A couple of hours later, it turns out that the hotel charged us for the whole booked stay of 9 days on the credit card.And we had no written proof that we only stayed 3 days. Thats actually fraud.(It took loads of precious vacation time and money, calls, emails... to sort this out, the hotel did not react to any of our contact attempts and we needed to prove that we are actually right to our booking website, which was very difficult without proper proof. Of course no one suspects the hotel management of treating their guest in such a shameful manner)
We had one amazing stay. The rooms are very neat and tidy. The bathroom facilities are also better than most found in this price range around the island. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Resturant was a bit limited but good value for money. Overall a very nice place and worth checking in. Loved it!
Had a fun time staying here with the family. Owner lady Emma was very polite and helpful. Frederica the manager was also a delightful person to meet, very professional and considerate. All local staff working there were also very polite.The hotel is clean with all basic amenities. Beach is lovely, peaceful, safe and quiet. Location is ideal as you can make day trips to the north, South and to town without getting too tired. Definitely recommended if you are looking for a relaxing stay. If you like a lot of hustle bustle and activity then uroa is not the right spot for you.
Beautiful room and GORGEOUS VIEWS!! It was so serene! Owner was really nice and so was all the staff. The kitties running around were very cute too and definitely made me smile! Beds were comfy and provided mosquito nets. Breakfast was really yummy but after dinner one night my friend got a little sick. Maybe the salad wasnt washed too well? Anyway I would stay here again.
Just got back from a fabulous holiday in Zanzebar staying at this hotel , which we thought was beautiful very good staff always happy to help. Wonderful breakfast served on the the beach most days. Fresh fruits pastries choices of different cooked eggs.Could have been a little more verity for choice of food in the evening.

The staff were awesome and went out of their way to make my sons 2nd birthday a memorable one. We were totally impressed with the birthday cake that was specially made for him. We would definitely like to come back oneday in the future.
De have visited the restaurant of the property several Times, the food sas delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You have to know that they earn only 90 USD per month while a good 4 persons dinner cost about the same... They give you WIFI code if you ask.

We stayed here for one week in November and it was great stay.Pros: the property is absolutely beautiful and is located just on the beach. All rooms are seaview and you able to hear the ocean from the room - priceless. The place is tranquil (hate these noisy package resorts) and totally corresponded to my imagination of Zanzibar paradise. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Beach is beautiful and is sweamable even on low tide - if you dont mind to walk a bit on the ocean floor which is not rocky/greasy and pretty pleasant to walk on. On such occasions you will find tiny sparkling white remote islands where you can lay on and observe how the ocean swallows it up while high tide is coming... happiest time :)On the practical side, we never had any issues with water/hot water, electricity, A/C or whatever. Deckchairs under palms where always available. Hotel was so kind and allowed us for late check-out (+6 hrs) for free.Price/quality ratio for a room is unbeatable.We rented a car and visited most of the places on Zanzibar and, in fact, I still think that is one of the best places there.Cons: two things. No fridges in the rooms and food. Fridges are essential in the Zanzibar climate (e.g. for cold drinks) but they do not have them in any room. Youre able to put your drink in the restaurants fridge but its annoying for both you and staff. I think they hope to sell cold drinks (10x price to the village price), that is the reason. Second, food. The breakfast is frugal and entirely vegetarian (while were not :) with very bad, cheapest instant coffee. No natural coffee is available on the property at all. The worst thing about breakfast that you cant avoid it as there are no places around for breakfast and obviously you cant make your own. Payable launch and dinner is, in fact, the most expensive in the neighborhood and, unfortunately, the worst on quality. Perhaps, they do it for a reason, to avoid busy restaurant. However, launch and dinner is not a problem because in few steps on the beach on the left is a nice authentic Sai Marce restaurant that I honesty recommend (main course 10-15k Sh vs. 12-17 USD on site) or Uroa Bay hotel in few steps on the right (20%-30% cheaper with much wider selection and good choice of wine of the day on the supermarket price. And they do have coffee machine!).Conclusion: That is nearly perfect place. Hotel should install fridges in the rooms and coffee machine in the restaurant, fix breakfast and cut food price by at least 20%, then it will be definitely best place on Zanzibar:)P.S. Wi-Fi very slow and is mostly unusable. Our Vodacom mainland simcard turned out to work but similarly slow. Zantel rocks in this location. Very fast, and very cheap. Do not forget to buy a sim-card while you in Stone Town if you need Internet here.
Excellent location, but the service leaves much to be desired. Breakfast was mediocre and repetitive, every day there were problems with electricity and water pressure, there was never warm water. If you are okay with these drawbacks, than you will enjoy the beautiful sea view and the beach.And don’t ever order transfer from this hotel, it’s expensive and unreliable (we had to wait for 30 minuets once).
It would have been a great experience had I not 1.retrieved my parcel that I had placed for safe keeping and the boss responded some foul language to his employee cos we had disturbed his sleep at 7 am.2. requested for an early breakfast as we were leaving the hotel early. We got 2 slices of bread, watermelon, pineapple. no cereal, no yoghurt. We asked for scrambled and we left the restaurant after 30 mins without the scrambled eggs.The departure morning experience ruined what had been a great start.So in a nutshell, if u decide to go u will probably have fun if u dont make my above mistakes. I truly hope mine was the only bad experience coz such a place deserves great service.

Horrible food, bad rooms, bathroom unclean, very different from the pictures. Not the best neighborhood to stay in. Dirty beaches, no bar for drinks, the owner didnt seem to care people leaving his place. We rebooked and had a great holiday on another lodge in the north.

Great hotel for relaxing by the sea. A haven of tranquility and well-being, overlooking the sea. Very clean, large rooms, very comfortable bed, usb plugs in the room. Well-kept garden. Swimming pool with sun beds. Remarkable terrace restaurant / bar. Unforgettable the service and the availability of the staff. A true boutique hotel, refined and simple. It is different from the big villages that are nearby, here you can enjoy a really peaceful stay! The variety of menus at meals is good and the quality of the food is very varied, especially the fish, always fresh.definitely to come back!
An excellent hotel for Africa, I would say perfect. Well maintained with a wide variety of food. There are no mosquitoes, only in the rainy season. Immediately about the hotel, then about Zanzibar😅:Located on the very first line, the ocean splashes right into the steps of the hotel),this is a mini-hotel, only for 20 people. There is a two-story main building where the reception is, there are five rooms on the 2nd floor, the windows of two rooms face the wall (There are two bungalows and one-story buildings.The rooms are simple, the furniture is old, the mattresses are just foam rubber, the plumbing is old, the hotel is shorter than a solid 3 *. It was scary to turn on the air conditioner, because a lot of bacteria accumulate there, and in Africa someone thinks they will wash them once a week?I had to sleep with the windows wide open (but the sound of the ocean is audible)!But the worst (!) Only in restaurants for $ 3, like beer.The excursion was bought on the beach from a local, on the island of turtles, a walk in Stone Town (the guide was Russian-speaking), and a spice garden - all for $ 35 / person. The most comfortable hotel on the whole island! Full of charm! I liked the hospitable hotel staff! The hotel managers are real professionals and monitor the service and comfort of the guests, it is nice that any issues are resolved quickly. Rooms are cleaned from mosquitoes and insects every evening. And at the hotel you will see the most beautiful moon, it is not for nothing that it has such a name. You can lie on a hammock and watch the light of the moon. Will definitely be back!
The disgusting attitude of the owner - a greedy Italian to the guests and a murdered hotel. Everything is built on deception and promises. Dont come here if you dont want to ruin your holiday. Towels are changed once a week with the adjacent room after being dried in the sun. Air conditioners are not refueled and they just blow hot air in the rooms. The staff are not paid and they periodically run away from such a bastard. Russians who come in package tours are held hostage to the situation, so this information is for tour operators as well. Do not expose your customers!
The hotel is in a bad location nothing nearby, the pool very small and facing the reception. The sea is full of algae the tide is low so it is impossible to swim unless you walk for miles.The hotel is more for older people who like peace and seclusion.

We are few in number the size of the hotel is on a human scale. I just love it. The pool is always clean, the waiters smiling. Nice, small hotel for those who love a relaxing holiday and watch the ocean. Constant ebb and flow, you can only swim in the pool. Breakfast is monotonous, without meat products. For lunch and dinner, went to the cafe Sai Marse to the right along the shore, 3 minutes. Plumbing is old, the bathroom smells damp. Offer mosquito spray, but no mosquitoes. Water is given only once. The room has little ants, nothing sweet can not leave. There is no refrigerator, but the air conditioning works well. The ocean is striking in its grandeur. If you go left along the beach, you can buy souvenirs at a good price, better than in Stone Town.

From experience, I recommend this hotel in Uroa to be taken as a base for any trips to the island. With my family, I went around three hotels, one in the north, the other in the south and this, the first of the three, in Uroa. In hindsight, Moonshine boutique hotel was the best ever. Highly recommended!

My husband and I very much enjoyed the friendly, friendly and almost invisible staff, the fresh renovation of the bungalows, the delicious and varied breakfasts by the standards of Zanzibar. I recommend this place for people who prefer a solitary holiday or traveling with children.The hotel is absolutely safe, and, in principle, there are practically no locals on the coast. Although, the Zanzibar people seemed to me very friendly people. You can walk to the village, see how people live ... and, at the same time, buy fresh fruit)
Moonshine Uroa Boutique Hotel is located on the east coast of Zanzibar Island near the village of Eroa (Uroa). The hotel consists of an administrative building (reception area, TV, exchange books, PlayStation, guide) with rooms on the second floor, 2 bungalows, villas and buildings and rooms. This hotel is suitable for a relaxing holiday like a lazy seal. Nevertheless, the hotel has the opportunity to choose a guided tour. Best place on the beach. Very quiet, good room, affordable. Friendly staff. However, do not eat here is my recommendation, instead take a walk after the beach, there is much better price and food. A short walk away are several restaurants and hotels for those who want. The vendors on the beach are quite ok and offer better prices than the hotels for excursions.
The location is nice and the accommodation is fine too. Only the owner was very unfriendly noticed. The staff was treated very rude. What was confirmed at the billing. It was catastrophic. We were there for dinner. We enjoyed it much better than in our Uroa Beach Resort next door. The hotel makes a nice impression. It is much smaller and more personal than the Uroa Club next door.The next time I would book my vacation here.
The rooms are good (lets put aside the rust in the bathroom and some electronic problems).The real concern of this hotel remains the swimming pool. Here again lets put aside its smallness and its too great depth (we only have a foot in the stairs), it is so dirty that we found a dead crab there!The second black point here is boredom. Far from it all in such a way that we have to eat at the hotel. There is NOTHING to do in the hotel and NOTHING outside in this city.Plus, they charge you $ 4 per day per person fee here.For the price you pay, prefer Jambiani.
