We had a wonderful time at this historical place, almost felt like living in a museum. So many lovely details and well maintained, considering the age of the building. It is definitely one of the cleanest hotels weve seen on the island. We had a massive, comfortable triple room with nice bathroom. The pool is great and breakfast was nice too.We particularly enjoyed the location in the heart of Stone town, but it was still quiet in the room.I would have wished for a locker inside the room, but you can use one by the reception desk.Highly recommend the place for a relaxing stay in the city.

Pool was nice, aesthetics of building good. Off a side street - so no external noise - which was nice.Room was fine, but bathroom left much to be desired. My partner felt an electric charge while in the shower (!!) and the bathroom needed some love.

The hotel is very well located, perfect to visit stone town. The decoration is amazing, and the building actually rich in history. The room is nice and has a small balcony. There’s an AC and ceiling fan.Last but not least, the staff is super friendly and helpful. We couldn’t enjoy the breakfast which was included as we had to leave earlier to the airport, the staff prepared a takeaway snack (pastries) for us.I would recommend this place !

Nice hotel in stone town. Location is nice, with many shops around. The swimming pool is a real plus, but the air conditioning in the room is very old and thus very noisy (100DB measured). For a $100+ hotel, I would have expected higher quality

The breakfast was horrible. I have the feeling on this hotel that nobody care really it’s like a classroom. The manager should wake up and try to gather everybody together to satisfy the guests. Great potential of a hotel but really not there at the moment

The hotel is well located and very pretty. But lets talk about the service for a second... A second, its pretty much the time the personal had to offer us, and it was to make sure we pay our bill that was always up for negotiation. Not exactly what you expect from a palace... Avoid the breakfast if food matters to you, there are nicer places around.

A charming heritage hotel, rich in history and in an excellent location. The rooms are beautifully decorated in Zanzibar style and the location is just a few minutes walk from all the stone town sights. One negative was that the internal windows are not soundproof and we had a disturbed nights sleep as another guest was screaming in the hallway.

Very cool building on a great location. Loved the architecture and history of the building. Breakfast was awesome as well.Staff is friendly but could improve their English. The reason they didnt get 5 stars? ACs were to noisy, the beds were too old and the elevator didnt work in the 4 days we were there and we stayed on the 4th floor!! Their sister hotel Tembo is next to the beach and has parking. Maybe a better option but otherwise, we enjoyed our stay here.

Beautiful, charming and full of character. The rooms are great and the location is perfect for exploring stone town. We stayed in a family room for the night and left early in the morning, the hotel provided us with a packed breakfast for our journey.

Our experience was not pleasant at all, we have decided to try this hotel instead of a famous hotel close to it, from the moment we entered the room we knew that it was a bad idea, the bed was bad cracking in each movement, the mosquitoes net was too small for the bed, toilet & room smelled bad , there where no place to put your cloth or bags, there where no safe box in the room ( only next to reception) overall i think this hotel use to be a 4 star hotel, but not anymore. The only 1 star i have rate is the location is close to almost everything in stone town.

Overall it has been a rather unpleasant stay. Yes, the rooms are very spacious but that’s about it. The hotel is stuck in another time. Not a very good breakfast. Terrible and sexist reception staff unwilling to help unless you pay them. Old air conditioning unit directly next to one of the beds, noisy and impossible to control. The lift did not work and the stairs are rather steep. The pool was cold. The hot water heater took forever. There was nothing in the minibar except for three small waters.

Great hotel, perfect location 👌 The rooms are very spacious and well designed like a palace.. The historic building meets all your expectations comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast is awesome 👌 Even though we missed the breakfast time staff was very co operative and provided us everything we needed.. The guy at the Reception Mr. Falhim is exceptional he made sure we get the right room at a good price and even upgraded us to even bigger room as we were traveling with a baby. Location is perfect close to everything in the heart of stone town. Lovely stay not to forget the relaxing pool area. . Highly recommended for families, couples Hakuna Matata :)

Initial positive impression has been spoiled by sudden incident. We had a helmet of our scooter fastened to the sit of it. Scooter was on the hotel parking which is right in front of hotels entrance door (abt. 2 meters!) And in the morning we realized helmet is stolen! Hotel stuff said they do not take a responsibility for this parking, and just suggested to buy some used helmet for 25$.

Apologies in advance but this is based on my experience. The morning shift guy is not easy to dealt with. The breakfast is so-so.If you want to see an old structure/house this is the place for you. Very close to the most historic places in stone town.5-7mins walk to Zanzibar CoffeeShop & Hamamni Persian Baths & Anglican Cathedral..Old port & House of Wonders!

The interior design of the reception and rooms is soooo authentic and breathtaking! Amazing decoration! The location of the hotel is very nice, in the middle of the city and close to all main attractions. The view from the roof is very nice as well. The breakfast was diverse and delicious.I just didnt like the idea of closing the main door early in the evening, so you need to knock the door every time you want to go in after a night out.

Somewhat chaotic checkin (crowded, not super welcoming)...but luckily Said took good care of us and solved the inefficiencies. The hotel is simply very charming: there is a true soul to this place. You are transported in late 1800s/early 1900s : everything is still there, including the piping. We had a beautiful room all the way at the top of the palace. If you enjoy stairs this is heaven. While not a luxury hotel by modern standards it certainly must have once been exceptionally luxurious. Great experience overall!

Great place to stay with modern facilities - air conditioning (respite from the unrelenting heat), hot shower and a clean room. At the same time, I am also very priviliged to be in a historic place - this place was practically a walking museum. The staff were very kind. We were allowed to store our luggage and use the facilities even after the checkout time. The breakfast was good and buffet style! I highly recommend this place.

Super nice staff. Right in the center of the action, such as it is. The architecture reminds me of the game, Monument Valley. I kept wanting the stairs to rotate into a different Escher configuration. You can spend 5x the money and stay somewhere more comfortable and modern, but not half as interesting. The food is basic, but there are plenty of options nearby. Alas, no booze either. The rooftop is territorial view. Dont plan on enjoying a sunset wine (or anything, or sunset) from the roof. But again, plenty of other options nearby.

Great hotel in the centre of Stone Town - would highly recommend it for the ridiculously underused roof terrace alone. Perfect for anyone looking for an oasis of calm.Only negative I can come up with was the breakfast which is OK but not great - but is included in the price, as is the WiFi.

Beautifully decorated, fine swimming pool, helpful staff, nice centrally located and easy to find! I spent a lovely weekend here. Personally I think that the food could be a little better (it is varied but the breakfast was not the top), but it does not matter because there are many wonderful restaurants in the area. The rooms are ok and the beds are fine - I had no bad experiences. The hotels sister hotel is Tembo hotel, located further down the road, the difference is primarily the view and the food.

Beautiful interiors, rooms are nicely furnished with antiques. The pool is excellent and the views from the roof are great. Its not by the sea, but its well situated - 8 minutes walk to Forodhani Gardens. You can get a coupon to use the pool at Tembo (they are partners). Breakfast was good and varied - theres an egg chef, which is always fun.Staff are friendly and helpful. Credit cards accepted.
