The owners clearly have no idea how to run that place.On Sunday I did not get breakfast because the responsible guy went to church. So I was standing in front of a locked breakfast terrace at 9:30.Nevertheless the owners insisted I have to pay for that breakfast - no discount given (it wouldnt even be a discount, I simply didnt get that breakfast).The staff tries its best, they at least gave a coffee and a toast.WiFi does not work.Problems with water and AC. Again its the staff that tries to safe things by quickly fixing them.This could be a great place, but unfortunately it isnt.Only plus: good bed and a staff that keeps things very clean and tries its best to keep things together.

Staff was super chill, location of hotel is pretty prime for beach. Literally a 50ft walk. Just a slight hiccup when check-in happened and my room was not ready, which was weird. Other than that great spot and good price for what you get. View from the roof is pretty nice as well.

Slept quite well. Friendly staff.Expect you might hear music from the local club quite vividly until 3am.Enjoyed AC alot. Bfast is the same everyday but enough if you enjoy variations of egg and pancakes.I would stay there again - location is great

The hotel was comfortable, staff friendly. However, the breakfast was not up to the mark even though the staff tried their best to do a good job. Full points for service but surely room for improvement. The is a good view of the ocean from the top most floor of the hotel.

I REALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL.We had a room that had so many problems. Firstly the wifi did not reach AT ALL in the room only was to be connected it either standing next to the door all the time or either going outside of the room. We had no aircon remote and requested one by reception which never came. Then the fridge did not work at all and on top of that there were cockroaches in the fridge and had to throw out food away. Then went to reception to report everything and there was no one there for about 15mins. He came to the room and checked everything and gave us a new room which had the same wifi problem and fridge did not work and on top of that there was an Aircon remote this time but the Aircon made a REALLY loud noise while it was on.

Hotel is outdated. Rooms are old and bathrooms have a lot of mold. If the hotel was being maintained it could have been great, but this hotel has been built several decades ago and is neglected since. At our stay (4 rooms) we could only get two rooms with AC as the others were broken.

Beautifully apportioned common areas and guest rooms and wonderfully accommodating staff. Romantic rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking Vuga to the sea. The epitome of an exotic boutique hotel in Zanzibar.

The location and the service were good but they told me that the hotel is under maintence during this season and i didnt see any other guest on it. It was no internet on the room and of course no open buffet for just one just....from my point of view Zanzibar doesnt deserve to come for it from another country

Breakfast is poor, acomodation is not at a 4 star standard. Staff very friendly and polite, however no attention to detail and lack of initiative to help or find solutions. In the middle of a management change hopefully will improve.

Am waiter and I make sure our clients from Al johari hotel any guests are getting good service (food $ beverages services) though making special menu for food and drink especially discount of drinks (in happy hour or the sun set time from 5:00--7:00 also I like to say your welcome for any time in cool place.

Good location. Rooms were very hot, poor wifi, average overpriced food, tricky TV, horrible view from my room. Pleasant staff for the most part

An old hotel, which has been refurbish to modern standard but with old architect, interior located surrounded by old business, not suitable for new wedded couples due to view.Charges of the hotel are affordable.

This Al Johari hotel 🏨 provided the best services I have ever seen. They have real good room service, they are thorough with their cleaning and spraying plus the staff.Not to forget the chef, this guy just knows how to cook. The breakfast and his customer service while service is awesome 👏🏾, the juice 🥤 he makes both passion mixed with mango and pineapple plus the hibiscusSupervisor Benson is world class.The location too is good; I was in the top room 113 and nothing to complain about.My wife and son loved it too even though my boy is only 10 months, but showed his emotions when we were leavingBig up, Al Johari.You truly were great 👍🏾 and I MUST come back. We spent 2 nights at the Al Johari.My friend had a very nasty experience on the first night (we were there on 26th and 27th March 2015) when shortly after going to bed he was invaded by bedbugs in their hundreds.He woke up to find the bugs crawling all over his body and on checking under the mattress he was horrified to see hundreds more.The hotel shifted him to another room without so much as an apology.The breakfast was some tasteless bread and what looked like yolkless eggs.At Tsh.100, 000/- per night it was a raw deal.Give the Al Johari a wide berth.

Old and shabby - not recommended.The hotel is definitely not to be recommended.The acceptable times for the hotel are a minimum of 3-5 years in the past.Lamps broken, strong smell in the bathroom, taps in the bathroom, bad breakfast, noise until late at night in the restaurant that is open to the stairwell, none of the bathrooms as shown on the Internet.

Great location. All the main attractions are very close. Breakfast is served on the roof :) overlooking the rooftops of Stone Town and the ocean. The rooms, of course, are 3 * old and not very clean. For a couple of nights, a good option for the price / quality / location ratio.

Beach, bars, shops, restaurants, all in a couple of minutes. There is hot water, air conditioning. Cash only, staff are generally pleasant. Furniture with history, of course, but in general you can live

The hotel is located in a beautiful building, but the room was ugly and old. The bed was uncomfortable and you dont know why, it had a duvet !!!! The shower was half broken, also the hot water went out due to a fault. Obviously, gone also is the light, all this, in the first 3 hours. The restaurant is a little anonymous, no music, no entertainment, not even New Years Eve !!!!!Also, we had no problems booking a city tour. At the front desk they had indicated the cost of $ 10 for 2 hours, but after the tour the guide demanded $ 20 apiece. Eventually we were told that the receptionist had offered us a tour with a friend instead of the official guide who then was called by another !!! In short, I would not go right, did not even remotely 4 stars !!!

The sound of music from the club next door sounds until late at night, and breakfast is moderate or low compared to the cost of the room. The fridge did not work well for two nights and three days, and Wi-Fi is not working well. There is a room that smells good, it is fine if you like old-fashioned style but it is not recommended if you want clean and tidy facilities.

Everything is getting old and in need of renovation. The staff are without exception hard-working and very friendly and helpful. 4 stars only because of the staff.Location is very central. After a brief orientation phase, you can walk to all hotspots very quickly.Unfortunately, WiFi is not available throughout the house.Price performance is right
