City center location but its a maze of streets that makes it difficult to find your way out.We got a suite room that was spacious but the bathroom was tiny and you have to jump over a toilet to get to the shower.Roof top is nice with a breeze almost all day. Breakfast was ok too. Fantastic hibiscus juice served. The size of swimming pool is rather slow so had no desire to dip in. Also, as its located on the inside of the building surrounded by wall on all 4 sides- feels like theres no air coming in.

Cant understand all the positive reviews (maybe depends on the rooms you get or service just got worse?!)Positive: nice terrace and good location, as well as small pool to refreshNegative: room small with miniature window, noisy AC (but too hot to sleep without), bathroom not clean, broken lights, after cleaning even worse, they use a strong chemical with disgusting smell that would not evaporate as basically room has no window. Staff at reception unfriendlyThey should really work on these points!!!!

Spice Palace HotelWe stayed four days in Spice hotel. We can say we are quite satisfied but there are things you need to know before coming. First the place, really good location and nice decoration. Regarding the pool, It does not look like pictures. The swimming pool size has been modify because it is really small in reality. For the staff part, It is divided in two :- the one at the reception, who is correct but we had some problem of money with them, for example they keep some of your changes, or little things like this.- The other one, who serve the breakfast on the rooftop, is really amazing, so kind and available. We were to meet them every morning.Breakfast was correct. Our room was good never less the save deposits box was broken. But we did not have any stilling problem. The main trouble was about the noise. We were on the round floor, close to the swimming pool. Maybe it is about that.To conclude : Good place to stay but someunconvience to expect..

Not all staff is friendly and professional. We were charged (about 20%) more than what was promised. They told us theres 5% card payment fee & nothing else.Breakfast is served on the rooftop restaurant. Foods there were quite alright. But we would recommend to book your prison island&spice farm trip with them. The guide really knew what he was doing and it was very fun!

Good value of money. We paid around 40usd per night and it was the best hotel during our trip to Tanzania (we visited five different towns). Room was very clean and everything worked well, breakfast was excellent and the staff very polite, especially in restaurant upstairs. We enjoyed several nights. Did not test the pool, but even though quite small, looked clean and suitable for afternoon dip after hot day.Like many places in Zanzibar and Stone town, this place also has overpriced some of the extra services like taxi, boat/diving trips, safaris etc. Everything is overcharged and has sudden extra fees/taxes to fool foreigners. This includes restaurants, tour companies and hotels.Soon there will be time that tourists realize that other islands around Zanzibar (Mafia and Pemba) has as great beaches and more authentic atmosphere than in Zanzibar. If you only visit Zanzibar, you wont realise how far the whole island is from real Tanzanian life and that the prices and five times bigger than in mainland.

The Online view of spice hotel does not reflect the real life experience, this is both a plus and a minus. This hotel is barely old but some of its amenities are under maintained, the shower, the Sheets, in some cases the sewage. They are running on the old adage, if it aint broke, dont fix it.The plus side is its amazing location, the bed is rather comfy, the ac cools very well, the shower is hot and the breakfast although not super consistent everyday, but is very good! Some areas i think they could work on, some rooms dont have robes, Conditioner, proper towels. Some cupboards dont have rods, tv is 1 channel, Wifi is good in some areas, not all.Overall, Had a good stay at spice, the food is great, the location is amazing and the staff are quite helpful and friendly.

Very bad experience, starting from the fact that they have their own very bad exchanging rates between usd and shillings when you need to pay at the beginning. On top of that, they also keep the change. They stole us close to 5 euros just for paying 2 nights. The room is claustrophobic and veeery small, does not look like the photos. The light in the bathroom was broken (it was flashing at high frequency, kind of like a disco light) and the room was not clean: we found stains on the bed sheets. After the first night, they entered to clean the room and after that the room smelled like bad pesticide for 2 days, with no way to remove the smell. Also, if you are in the bottom floor room, there is no internet. This means no wifi (too far) and also no sim card network. You are completely blocked from internet. Also the staff at the reception (the same one who stole us money with the exchange rate) is very rude. Just avoid this tourist trap

We stayed this hotel for 4 days and I could give 5 stars if a rooster that is living a very close to the hotel didnt wake me up at 5 am everyday and it didnt stop shouting for hours. For the people who can sleep with this sound the hotel is in the center of Stone Town so everywhere is close and the employees are so kind. And the Breakfast is fair

Rooms 101 and 102 do not have wifi in the room. I found the barman condescending but Maasai reception staff was the best ever. Food outside breakfast hours took an hour for the special pilau rice so I thought it would be readily available. card kept getting demagnetized and I had to keep asking to make it functional. They tried to charge me a restaurant fee that was from another room when checking out. I cant recommend unfortunately but competent staff at reception.

Pleasantly surprised and located in the heart of Stone Town, its walking distance to Jaws Corner where the locals love to hangout. Its location makes it very easy to just walk around to museums or night markets. Its located within the narrow small alleys of Stone Town that youll be familiarising yourself with as you start walking around. Rooms are clean and theres a little balcony as well. Shower is great, water is boiling hot. Theres also a bar, pool and gym to keep you busy. The rooftop bar and restaurant is amazing and the food is excellent! I loved my breakfast. Overall, my experience here was very good.

Right in the centre of Stone Town, so it takes minutes to reach everywhere. Since its in the middle you have to walk to the hotel with your luggage but it isnt more than maybe 5 minutes to any of the parking locations that drivers usually use. Be careful while walking throughout Stone Town, motor bikes are allowed to drive through and some can be pretty fast even though persons are walking. It has an elevator inside. Is really nicely decorated. The breakfast buffet is very diverse and a different main item every few mornings. So if you stay two or three days, the main dishes wont be the same.I enjoyed my time there I went twice in one trip at the beginning and at the end. Its the sister to Antonio Gardens and so you can use their spa at discounted rates. In the evenings there is a turn down service where they spray for mosquitoes and pull the net, they sometimes leave little treats. For all of what they offer the prices are reasonable for the area.

The First night we had a suite which was really nice and quite.Second time we had a Double Room (which was only 6$ cheaper) which was very loud and Had one Connecting Door to the next Room which was thankfully locked.Unfortunatly in both Rooms the TV didnt Work ... I just wanted to share my experience with the bookings process. I had to amend my booking from a single room to a double room. I wrote multiple emails through reservations and through booking.com. No replies. I even called the place twice. I was told that the reservation had been amended manually from a single to a double even though nothing had changed on booking.com. I was happy to pay the difference. Not thinking much of it I turned up with my friend to find out that the double room had not been reserved. The receptionist said that they admit that they messed up the booking and accepted responsibility but asked me to cancel my booking. I mentioned that if I cancelled my booking I would be charged a fee. I said that I would be happy if they accepted the cancellation fee waive request via booking.com. The reception staff were not helpful and shrugged their shoulders. I had to call booking.com and within seconds, the cancellation fee waive request was accepted. I am happy the hotel accepted the responsibility of the mistake but I am quite disappointed in the whole process. The fact that the experience with a hotel starts with the booking process. Just a tip, always do things through the correct channels.

Actually the hotel itself is very good.Rooms are small but everything is there: AC, good mattress. However, windows are not soundproofed at all and we couldn’t sleep because of irregular noise coming from some technical parts of the buildings (pumps? Compressors?). We asked to change room but noise was coming from all the second floor (last floor). That’s the reason I put 3 stars, because you came to a hotel to sleep. On the good side, their swimming pool is much appreciated during hot days and their rooftop bar and restaurant has a very nice view. Prices are reasonable: for exemple 10.000 for a burger and fries.

I would like to write a review of my recent stay at Spice palace. Keep in mind, that I have stayed at this hotel at least 6 or7 times in the past year. I booked for 2 nights, March 17th and 18th. The first night was pretty good, however,, my neighbor in the next room was very loud on his telephone, so loud that through the wall I could hear the person he was talking to. This went on for about an hour and a half from 8pm to 930. The next day it also occurred, beginning at 345pm, when i was trying to take a nap. I heard commotion in the hallway and went to investigate. One of the waitresses was there and I asked her to ask him to talk in a lower price. She just looked at me as if what I was asking was too much. Just the man stepped out into the hallway, and I asked him politely to lower his voice. He said,This is not my problem So i asked him politely once again and told him, that I was asking nicely, he became belligerent and using foul language, so I went downstairs to speak to the management about this and the fact that he was smoking in his room, and the smell was coming into my room. When I got down stairs, I approached the Receptionist as he was dealing with two customers. I asked if the hotel manager was available and he ignored me and began to speak in Swahili, which I don’t speak. I then made a motion toward the managers office, and he told me in English, “she is not here.” At this point the customers left. I explained to him the situation and asked him to speak to the man, who had just walked past and was now standing in front of the hotel. Once again he ignored me, and continued to type on the keyboard. I asked him to contact his supervisor, so I may speak with her or him and he told me he didn’t have her number. (Which I knew wasn’t true.) So I went upstairs to the restaurant, and explained to one of the waitresses what had happened and asked for her to advocate on my behalf, to see if I could get in touch with the hotel manager. She accomplished that and I went back downstairs. When I arrived downstairs, a middle manager, Mehi, Meli(?), was there and I explained to him the situation. Smoking man comes by and approaches the middle manager and becomes belligerent once more, including calling me names and how he didn’t care, and he was talking in a normal voice, and it wasn’t his fault. I told him, “you’ve been screaming for the past two hours and I can hear the person on the other side of the phone through the wall!” Mehi just stood there and did nothing, didn’t try and advocate for proper behavior, or warn the man about being too loud, or smoking. So I told Mehi that I wanted a refund on that nights hotel, as I was going to check out and go to another hotel. Mehi told me he couldn’t do that and that I would have to take it up with expedia. I told him I was going up to eat dinner, and by the time I came back down I hoped that he would change him mind and offer me a satisfactory solution of refunding me 70 dollars for one night. I told him that unfortunately,if he didn’t I would have no recourse, other than to tell everyone online, what had happened.I came back down an hour later, and Mehi was no longer around, I asked the original reception worker what he had said, and once again he blew me off. My taxi came to help me with my luggage. As we came out of the elevator, and wanted to proceed to the desk to pay my restaurant tab, the taxi driver and I were physically attacked, and blocked by the 2 Masaai security guards, with their sticks. I shoved them out of the way, and we were both exasperated, by their actions. They began to posture and try and block our path to the front desk. After a one hour discussion, with a former worker, he eventually admitted I was in the right and Spice Palace was in the wrong. Additionally, it came to light that Mehi had ordered the front desk manager to call the police on me, even though, I had done nothing wrong. The intermediary spoke to the 2 Massai, then begged me not to post this

The location is very good but you cannot reach the hotel by car or taxy since the streets are too narrow. In case youre gonna arrive at night take this into account. The place is really safe but still you will have to look for the hotel by walk into a real urban maze. Make sure to have a GPS or a map or it can be really difficult to arrive for the first time. The hotel has really nice views from the top and the personnel is great and very supportive, there is an ATM not too far away and you can ask them to take you there or give you some directions. The rooms are ok and the price is more than reasonable.
