We really loved our stay at Hiliki House. Abdul and Mahmoud were both super helpful and booked a couple of really great excursions for us. They also organized transport to our next hotel in Nungwi.Breakfast was good, wide variety of eggs, pancakes and fresh fruit, served in a gorgeous dining room. The bedroom had AC and a fan which was a massive bonus. Very happy we chose here!

I went to visit the hotel to see about staying here and Im glad I checked it out before booking. This place is a dump. The smell of the room alone was a deterrent. The furnishings were pretty shoddy and I decided against it. I found a much better place on airbnb instead.

Great location in quiet neighbourhood but also very close to the water and nice streets with restaurants and shops. Staff are very friendly and prices are very reasonable for the high quality received here. Rooms are spacious and clean, nice showers with hot water and good working fans and air conditioning in rooms. The breakfast is also very nice. Overall, a very nice place to stay for a great price.

Location is wonderful, management very friendly, the bed is uncomfortable, rooms clean, bathroom not clean, toiletries not for all rooms. Building is old, nice style, but very much in need of some renovation. Breakfast simple, but not bad, not all guests can sit down to eat at the same time, might have to wait for turn. They accept credit cards with no extra charge, parking possible right next to hotel. I expected a little more for the price.

The house is really unique with its traditional and well decorated rooms. Its not a big hotel so it makes you feel at home. The ladies that serve breakfast and do the rooms are very kind. Also, the location is out of the alleyways but next to them. You get a quiet location, minutes away by walk from the heart of Stone Town.Khalfan was a really welcoming guy and helped us managed everything we needed during our stay in the island, not only our time in hiliki (he organised day tours at a great price, he gave us many recommendations on what to do/see/eat, he arranged our rental car and our driving permit and even took us to the airport). If I need to recommend a place in Stone Town, this is it. Great value for the location, facilities and specially customer service.

We arrived there at 11am and the room wasnt ready, we went for a walk and went back at 1 and, again, the room wasnt ready. In the end they gave us a room which was completely different from the one I booked on booking, the bathroom was disgusting. My boyfriend complained with the reception and they moved SOMEONE ELSES luggages from a room and gave it to us. The new room was nice, as the one I booked. I read here that this happens more than often, so even though the room was nice and the guys at the reception very welcoming, I wouldnt recommend this place at all.

A very disappointing experience when booking this hotel in Stone Town. On arrival, we were asked to return in half an hour as the room wasnt ready, which is totally fine, but then on returning around an hour later we were shown a room totally different to the one we had reserved online that not only was in a different building, but did not have a double bed and featured air thick with the scent of a poorly draining toilet in the bathroom. One man appeared very friendly on the surface, but did not accept the fact that we were not happy with the room and told us that the manager says there is nothing else. The other man came across very hostile and we felt very unwelcome, so we cancelled our upcoming stay in the same location and found an alternative hotel both closer to the centre and generally much higher in quality. I would suggest thinking carefully about this place even if on a budget - it may not be the best option even with the price point charged, especially if it turns out unusable. I see now here in Google Maps that we are not the first to experience a less than enjoyable welcome at Hiliki House.

Terrible terrible terrible experience. I booked a room through booking and arrived to hotel. Manager was not there. Later on he arrived. Started to chit chat for at least 25 mins with us. When I asked him about the room. He goes like, sorry I need to locate you somewhere else because someone booked and payed in advance and I chose to pay on spot! Other location he suggested was the way far from stone town and I was tired from the trip with many luggage. Later he located us to other hotel in the town. Very smelly, low quality no air conditioning etc. I was so drained and tired and it was almost dark I decided to stay only for one night. Receptionist tired to overcharge. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE DO NOT STAY IN THIS PLACE! NEVER EVER!!

Hiliki House is a good budget place to get in Stone Town, right in the center of the historical sites of Zanzibar town.Pros1. Air Condition & Water Heater - this place for the price it has AC in the rooms and most of the hotels you get no ac for the same price. And for the kind of weather there, AC is a must have. Plus it has water heaters for the showers.2. Budget Friendly - its so far the best bang for the buck around the area.3. Good Cozy rooms - there are twin single bed rooms & single double bed rooms and the rooms are very good for the price and looks good.Cons1. Breakfast - the breakfast isnt the best, infact I will rate it 2 or 3 out of 5. No milk, but tea or coffee with bread and omelette.Other wise for the price, its worth the stay and AC is what most people are looking for. I can recommend this place for anyone on a budget.

Very bad experice with our booking here. We kept in touch during our journey to Hiliki to say when we would be checking in, and when we knew we would be 1 hour late as our flight was delayed. We were told this was fine, and they sent us a taxi to the airport but when we were a couple of mins away from Hiliki the driver passed us the phone and we were told that we would be taken to a different hotel - several different reasons were given that didnt really make sense (A/C was broken, room wasnt ready). We were taken to another hotel on the other side of the town which we later looked up and found to be cheaper than the one we booked. We were told we may be able to move to Hiliki in the next couple of days. When I politely emailed and said I was not happy with the experience and wanted to move to Hiliki, I was rudely told it was my fault because I had arrived to stone town too late, despite the fact I had told them I would be 1 hour late during my journey and had been told this was fine. I was told to stay at the other hotel and no offer of refund for the difference in price. No one from Hiliki came to speak to us about this face to face during our 3 day stay. Also spoke to another couple in Zanzibar who had the exact same experience with Hiliki so I wonder if they may be moving their guests to a cheaper hotel and making a profit from the difference in price as it seems looking at these reviews this is a common thing to happen. At best it is a case of very poor organisation and communication.

Nice place authentic look. It a house type logging and boarding. Little touch up here and there would make place come alive. I would like to give it 3.5 as owner Ibrahim was nice and Adulla working there did help me arranging my tours. Breakfast very basic but okay. Cons..no wifi in rooms only in lobby or hall above. Purchased sim with data but no signal in room. Had complained for changing towels which was done after 2 days. Also no toiletries so bring u r own. Best thing was room, nice and comfortable. Would recommend place, if u looking for basic facilities like anyones house.

A wonderful experience for our family! We stayed for three nights and were accommodated in rooms 1;2;3 which was outstanding with having a (very) big living room (almost) for our own!(Especially nice during rainy season with sometimes 24hrs of heavy rains)House is very nice Zanzibari style - a real gem!Location very quiet and within easy 5-15min walk from every corner of Stonetown! We felt secure and safe all around the clock.Staff very friendly and helpful be it day of night; be it for fixing a problem in infrastructure or organizing any kind of tour or transport.Would stay again!

We stayed a hilki house retro bed and breakfast and while place was clean and breakfast was decent i would not consider it a bed and breakfast. Its more of a hostel with breakfast. Also its kinda far away from everything so if you can find a hostel closer to everything the go with that.

The experience depends highly on what room you get. Room 4 has a bathroom while room 6 has a private bathroom, which means you have to leave the bedroom to get to your exclusive bathroom. Clearly staying at room 4 gives you a very comfortable experience while room 6 is nice but not so practical. The breakfast is quite generous and delicious and the overall experience leaves you the impression of getting good value for your money

Somehow it was the worst hotel on our 3 weeks trip through Tanzania and Zanzibar. Not too bad in general, but... The breakfast is poor and badly organized, the room was small and dark. The bad as other furniture looked antique... missed some details and sounded like it going to break any moment. When we asked for the spice tour, we were not informed that part of it is a beach rest (well, it was the same for most of people from other hotels too). This hotel was recommended by lonely planet book, bit info seems to be outdated.
