Great place in Paje. Save your time to eat there. You have to wait for your dish a little bit longer than in other places but it is worth the effort. Very freshly made and tasty. Great staff:-))).See U next time!

Felt at home. Delicious, wholesome and great food and staff. The best food on Paje. Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Favourite for seafood, salads, vegetarian food.. juices and coffees. Happy kind staff who looked after me so well. Kitchen is open and you can see its clean and food is cooked with lots of care.Recommended are the buddha bowl, kalamari and octopus...The rooms are chic, showers are hot with plenty of water, beds are the most comfortable I found on the island, rooms are spacious and have plenty of storage and even a fridge. Its stylish without being pretentious. The breeze means no mosquitoes and the vibe is caring and easy. Paul and Kaye have created a barefoot chic place serving elegant dishes. I can not wait to come back. Thanks for the smiles and all the care.

Delicious! One of the best food in Paje (and we’ve been here for a while so we know). Lots of options for vegetarians. I had a vegan noodles and they where amazing. The portions are super large - I shared mine with my husband. Ginger tea was super strong. There are so many other things I would like to try, but we’re leaving...

This is a difficult review to write.I stayed at Shanti for more than a month and it included free breakfast. An experience which some of the local staff members spoiled due to their rudeness and overt contempt for the patrons.I dont expect staff members to smile at me or even be particularly friendly, but I do think that simply being polite is a must. For example, when I made a very polite request for a knife and fork I would be shouted at by the local staff. Other customers made similar complaints.Sometimes I requested some salt or I went to pay for additional food, and the staff would look at me, then look at each other and laugh. Theyd then say something in Swahili to eachother and point blank ignore me, until I asked again. Asking again would draw pure disdain despite the fact I asked politely. Btw the staff in question (the main kitchen staff man Roman and a female member of staff) could speak English, so it wasnt due to a language barrier either. This is perhaps what some of the other reviewers meant when they said the staff were rude.Judging by the good reviews, I dont think it was always that way, but somewhere along the line, something went wrong.I know they must deal with drunken tourists and idiots at times, but I didn’t fall into that category and I was polite.I was actually willing to let all of that go, except for the fact that at the very end, Roman charged me for items on the tab Id already paid for.I knew I’d already paid but I had a taxi waiting to take me to the airport and didnt get time to check my diary which was packed away. I later checked my journal and sure enough, Id already paid. I even noted the exact time and cost.Understand that Shanti is conveniently located on Paje beach in Zanzibar, so maybe their staff members were judgemental about the patrons wearing swimsuits or shorts due to cultural differences. I dont know tbh, Im just trying to figure out why they behaved like that.I spoke to Kaye a few times about this issue, but she just made excuses, didnt care and the staff behaviour didnt change at all. Some of the newest members of their team were a little more polite however. Those werent the only issues.I actually want to see this place do well, so Im going to list the improvements that should be made alongside the good points so you get a fair analysis. These bungalows cost $75 a night, and slightly less if you stay longer. Those who have shorter stays may pay even more. I think the value of what you get is not quite there yet, although its important to remember that the accommodation aspect of it is new and advertised currently via word of mouth.Where improvements are needed:Staff extremely rude. Actually went out of their way to let me know I wasnt welcome. I just dont understand it at all. I was nice to themExtremely noisy til 6am on party nights from B4 and Teddys. Not Kayes fault but something you ought to be aware ofLocals burn trash near the bungalows. As there are no glass windows, the smoke blows through the mosquito nets on most days, potentially causing health issues for long term staysInconsistencies with the ways rooms were cleaned. No hot water. Eventually I had slightly warm water for about ten seconds from the shower, before it returned to being cold againWifi doesnt work that well in the bungalows. I think Kayes trying to fix itGood:Bungalows are right on the beachBungalows are among the best on the beach. They include a nice outdoor-in shower, a fridge and small walk-in storage spaceCeiling fan helps keep you cool at night

Unbelievable how rude the waitresses are! Their attitude towards a client is just disgusting. The waitress pretended not to hear my questions and when repeated she answered super shortly, not even looking at me. Unhelpful and rude.On top of all, the coffee machine was broken. We left without ordering anything. The most horrible place to visit unless you want to be treated in the worst possible way.

This is a joke. They are very rude with everyone, it took them over 30 min to prepare my juice and the food is tasteless. I ordered open toast from sour dough bread with hummus and tomato+ avocado. Neither this toast has seen sour dough nor it had a normal amount of hummus on it. Normally I would just walk away and never come back. But considering their extremely rude behaviour I can’t resist leaving a review. Scandalous!

Rude staff and service, even by Zanzibar standards. Teach them some manners, or just make them understand they are paid from what patrons leave here. The lack of service level can’t allow for more than 1 star. Even if food was super yummy (but it isn’t).Hummus is watery, aperol spritz needs prosecco and aperol along the soda, our sandwich lacked any notable taste.

Wonderful mix of local, fresh, tasty and affordable food with perfect easy going and friendly service. A lot of healthy options as well as vegan. We had the prawn-zucchini penne with garlic and a sweet potato salad with some hummus. Really delicious food and the drinks were very nice as well! If you want some quality food around Paje dont go to the underwelming and overpriced the Rock restaurant but come to Shanti Café, you will not regret it!

I hate to give bad reviews and I dont intend for this to stop people from going to this cafe but rather give the own some ideas on improvements. Firstly, the location and view is great, the place is decorated really nice and its super clean. Also everything on the menu is really healthy, so this is all great. The main reason for my low rating is for the food. I cant speak for everything on the menu but only from what I had. The juice was like pure lemon juice so I suggest serving juices with a little side dish of sugar syrup so customers can make it as sweet (or not) as they like. I also had the garlic bread which was almost too salty to eat and the breakfast burrito which was packed with rice and minimal beans. I felt it was lacking in wow and could have had a more exciting filling. The pili pili sauce tasted almost fermented. I dont mind spending this much money on food but then I expect it to be quality. Lastly, on a good note, the staff were very nice and service great. This cafe is relatively new and so it always takes a bit if trial and error. Please give this place a shot and make up your own mind.

Pleasant atmosphere, clean, tidy, the furniture looks solid and not cheap. Cutlery is also decent. The food is delicious, made with fresh ingredients. At a price just above the average range. But you feel for what you pay extra and only pleasant impressions. Nearby is an institution with loud, good music and a DJ. Nice view of the ocean. The time of our visit is after 18.00. A clean toilet, one of not many in Zanzibar

Cool place with sea view. You will have to wait a long time, even gazpacho soup, which, incidentally, is incredibly tasty with the addition of ginger, coconut milk, garlic.Tried spicy tea, spicy and spicy. And the appetizer with corn tortillas and a salad with avocado is excellent, only if you are not a fan of spicy, then ask not to add chili sauce. The place is expensive, but in Zanzibar, if you want to eat with pleasure - in a different way.The restaurant is suitable for vegetarians.

Wouldnt recommend. We waited 1h10m, which is a lot even for Zanzibar. If the food was delicious, then no question. Ordered a shrimp penne with 2 shrimps and no sauce, and it all costs $ 12. Tasty, expensive, long.
