All menu is reasonable and staff is friendly!I ate Ugali here for the first time! The chicken coconut sauce was very good and matched with ugali. Absolutely it also good with rice. The passion fruit juice was also good. Try the traditional African food, Ugali here!!

Great local food, friendly staff and good value for money. I had a vegetarian dish and it was delicious. The portions were generous and the side salad was crispy perfection. So much better than the overpriced burgers at our hotel.

We took fish soup as a starter. It was really good (amazing fish and lime flavor). As a main course we took grilled fish, which was really tasty. And octopus pili pili with a rich spicy flavor.

We happened across Garden Bob restaurant by happy accident, it was completely empty (always makes me a little apprehensive) but we decided to try it anyway.Fish Soup! Delicious, very bright, clean flavors, with lime, fresh fish, and a vegetable medley, a large enough portion to be a starter for two.Veggie chapati wrap with chips and salad: veggies were sautéed in a garlicky sauce and cooked perfectly, the chips were crispy on the outside a fluffy on the inside, lastly the salad was a delightful mix of julienned veggies and mango in a refreshing vinaigrette dressing.Red Beans with Ugali: a richly spiced tomato sauce with red beans and diced veggies, accompanied by fresh Ugali and the same excellent salad as the chapati.Excellent value, we were to full for the complimentary fresh fruit that accompanies each meal. We will definitely go back.(Update) we went back, again, and again… it was always excellent, when we didn’t eat at Garden Bobs we found ourselves comparing the food to Garden Bobs, and it was never quite as good.

We were sharing three different dishes with the two of us and I have to say it was a lot of food. So the portions are very fair.Everything we had was very delicious: Veggie roles, fish, curry and banana. Good place to try some local food!

Local restaurant with awesome Swahili food - a lot of vegetarian dishes as well. Super tasty and very cheap. The food is prepared freshly (which you can taste), thus it takes a bit longer. The vegetarian Chapati rolls and the fresh Ginger juice (Tangawizi) are the best.

Really excellent food. The seafood platter was piled with lobster, shrimp, octopus and fish. Amazing. All the other food was spot on as well. Looking forward to going back.

We loved the food, the place is really cozy and nicely decorated, but the service was soooo slow. That was basically the only downside. Other than that, you will definitely love it. The sea food platter was really good!

Very tasty food and welcoming staff. There are different varieties of local meals there, especially seafood. It is really delicious. The drawback is perhaps that you need to wait, but thats hakuna matata style, so nevermind:) It was really pleasant to eat there: just do not judge by appearance.

We went to Garden Bob the first night we arrived in Matemwe on a local recommendation. After this, we have NEVER eaten to the hotel restaurant. Everything is tasty and delicious. We tried the octopus which was so soft and tender, the fresh grilled fish with two options either king fish or tuna, is super tasty, sweet potatos soup is good and fish kebab as well. Portions are big ! The owner is very friendly with a warm welcoming, Hakuna Matata ! Thanks a lot 🙂

Support local restaurants and enjoy authentic cuisine. Skip the hotel food. Tasty line caught fish, casava, delicious veg and coconut rice. Very reasonable and kind hosts.

I have been several times to Bob’s garden resturant restaurant during my dive stay in matemwe, they are really honest and the fish is fresh every day and the portion are big, so make sure that you are hungry. I’ve tried a lot of dishes and all of them were really well cooked! They serve beer and it’s always a quite place to rest after a long dive day.

Very welcoming place. Refreshing breeze is going unser the palm tree roof. The meal was delicious. We had chuku chuku fish. Very good value for money.

Gardens Bob is a place you dont want to miss if you come by Matemwe. Its simple and nice: you enter in Bobs univers. The owner is a nice and very interesting guy. We talked about a lot of subjects: zanzibar history and culture, education, religion and more... There is a bit of waiting bit it worth it.The team prepares very good food with fresh vegetables and fresh fish. The place is good value for money and a nice atmosphere in the village center. Worth trying as alternative to hotel menu. Small, no frills place in village with very hospitable owner, Garden Bob. He does everything at the moment.....greet, takes order, cooks and serves plus is happy to chat with you about his life in his village. It helps to be patient and its worth the wait. Fish soup was delicious, chicken shawarma even better and grilled chicken also very good. Drinks very reasonable. Beer $2. Definitely would go back. In fact, thats exactly what we are going to do! Grilled fish this time 🐟😋. We wish Bob much success with this new, 3 month old endeavor!!!!! Asante!

Lovely little place. We walked from our hotel 20min across at night. Which was probably not dangerous but a bit sketchy. We then ordered the chicken curry and red beans. It was excellent! Chichi had a chat with us and told us some Tanzanian stories which was quite entertaining. They also offered us a free dropoff at the hotel. They do free pickups and dropoffs. Just contact them via WhatsApp.

Take me back to Matemwes Garden Bob! Super chill and friendly environment and best Fish kebab in town :) + Garden Bob is going to make you feel welcome and at ease even if you are lonely woman in the island. So bad I have no pictures to share, but you just go and discover by yourself (fries + chili ketchup are a must)

Awesome little shack with amazing food cooked locally. Its a bit hard to find from the beach, but head into town from the path north of the ceviche shack. You wont be disappointed!

Bob served us in person. We had great hearty soups, octopus, and barbecued chicken. The octopus was served with a side of delicious pili pili sauce; thick, rich, and very spicy.

Mniamyy!!! Perfect grilled octopus and vegetable in curry souce. Love it!! Ill be back. Very friendlly Staff. It was a great evening. Prizes are much lower than in hotel restaurants and food is much better :)

A great little restaurant with local foods run by a very enthusiastic person. The restaurant was full for the first time since opening 2 months ago and Garden Bob was overjoyed. The wait was long but the food was worth waiting for.

Very nice, cozy, local restaurant near the hotels. The hosts are very decent, kind and helpful. The cuisine is very tasty, it takes longer to eat for about 1 hour. I recommend there certainly not very hungry. They gave us a taste of their roasted banana and it was delicious. I definitely recommend visiting 😉👍

Difficult to find more typical and more authentic than at garden bob‼️ many traditional dishes at unbeatable prices.. we went there twice with four people and it really is a must in Zanzibar. very easy to find at the entrance of Matemwe village. (Leave the main road at the crossroads and head towards the beach.)

Local restaurant where you can eat VERY tasty and not expensive. Have a beer with banana chips (recommend) The owner is very welcoming, friendly and attentive. He tries to learn Russian))) to communicate with guests from Russia. We translated the menu for him into Russian. A plate of seafood for two is enough. Rice and curry are very tasty. Highly recommend! Food is twice cheaper than in hotels.
