Stayed in the apartment. Good size for a family and very clean. Pool is very pleasant and enjoyable. Our stay came with a great breakfast that changes slightly each day. Ate supper st restaurant a few times as well and food was tasty. Staff is very friendly. Location is also very good as you can walk to many shops without too much of a problem. Great stay for a family getaway.

Nice hotel great breakfast great location in stone town. The rooms are nice and large and the hotel was quite enjoyable on the beach with two pools. The breakfast was cooked fresh and was enjoyable served outside, mostly. Cappuccinos we’re not included, but were only 5k each and pretty good. The rooms were very clean and beds/bedding great - the furniture was however not very comfortable. The staff were helpful but painfully slow, especially when paying - be prepared to pay cash!

Quite frankly, the pictures do not do the place justice. The hotel is exactly as it looks, however seeing it during a beautiful sunny day is absolutely incredible.Stayed in room 26 -- a Junior Suite with an ocean view -- which is only accessible by 3 flights of stairs and only 1 of 3 rooms on the floor. Access to the infinity pool is one floor below. The room has air conditioning and a television. Do not book this room type if you have any physical limitations. Bed is very, very firm and the pillows are fantastic.Wonderful staff who are pleasant and full of smiles. There is an omelette station at breakfast and an assortment of other foods. The beef curry was delicious.

Gorgeous building, great staff, and a fun and diverse scene set Tembo House apart. The building has gorgeous rustic & Colonial aesthetics, with incredible art and decor. The staff is very helpful, understanding, and available, even if you dont speak Swahili or Arabic. And the guests are a really great mix from all over the world— its fun just to hear all the international languages! Love the restaurant and the view. Great for first-timers like me!

I would recommend the hotel for a 1 night stay but not as a place to relax. The hotel felt not that cozy, quite hectic, more for mass tourism. The reception was not that friendly, it was more like ordering in a fast food chain with so much going on there. We had to stay in the outbuilding which was actually a different hotel along the street. This made it actually really uncomfortable using the pool/ beach as we had to go through a dark street with our towels after a swim. Also the outbuilding rooms did not have any mosquito nets which was odd as they had them in the main building. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was again like in a mass canteen, fruits were good though.

After getting a disappointment with a previous booking done at Forodhani Park Hotel, this was indeed a welcome stay. The only downside was that we had to stay at the separate building from the main hotel, though not a distance, but the movement with kids and passing in the midst of the hawkers and solicitors then it would have been better having stayed at the main hotel.Despite that, the stay there was so good..the breakfast buffet was quite extensive and we enjoyed the selection of fresh fruits especially the mangoes there. The kids also enjoyed the meals especially the pizzas and the ice creams and juices. The view also was quite amazing and it even made our trip to Prison Island much easier as we were able to choose a boat from those moored there. The kids enjoyed the sand and the pools especially the one on the rooftop.Appreciation goes to the housekeeping team who kept the room spotless, towels and linens of very good quality and the coffee unit stocked.A place we look forward to staying at whenever we are at the city.

This hotel is well located in Stone Town. It is in the center near to restaurants, bars, streets with local shops etc. the staff is very friendly! We stayed at the main hotel not the annex so for us the two pools where right outside the room as well as the beach! Very nice pools and beach with boats directly to prison island. The breakfast was nice and the night we ate dinner at the hotel it was very good. Rooms are comfy and nice AC, Wi-Fi was good too. ONLY downside was that they do not have alcohol, that’s why 4 stars. But there are plenty of bars pretty close 😄

Oh I cant say enough about this beautiful beautiful hotel. I was sooo amazed how beautiful it was when we first got there. Just Soo beautiful. I loved how the pool was right in the middle . There were two pools. The hotel had small old fashioned things all around lobby . It was really neat. Like an old piano, old record player, sword a whole bunch of other stuff.Thr rooms were soo cute . They had the beds made the old fashioned way. Cannapy with the net neatly wrapped a certain way. They made our towels into animals , a elephant and swan. It was cute Absolutely no bugs in our rooms and no weird smell. Our room over looked the pool . It was nice. We had a little balcony. We sat outside sometimes. The shower was def different. Nothing I ever seen before. It was beautiful though. Shower was warm or hot what ever you wanted. No problem. There was AC in rooms and tv. Flat screen . Not huge but who goes to Africa to watch tv anyway? Breakfast time was wonderful. Buffet. So much to choose from. They are strict when they tell you the hours. DNT sleep late or you will miss it. Food was very good. You can have a omelette made for you .Go up and order it. Watch for the crows that hang around they will take your food. You can eat inside or out by beach . overlooking the beach. . Beautiful view, nice breeze..All the employees from front desk to cleaning personal were extremely nice.. Thank you We met the manager of the hotel. He introduced himself. He was very very nice . Always saw him around. When u step to the beach which is right behind the hotel its just beautiful. You see all the boats, natives . The native kids come to swimm about 4pm. They look like they having fun. They very nice dont bother anyone. Lots and lots of people passing by. Ocean water very nice. Loved it. Sunset was beautiful. You can take a boat ride if you pay. . I would def stay at this the Tembo Hotel when I come to Africa again. Thank you to all employees and manager. Beautiful stay . Loved every min of it .I didnt want to leave. Back in NY and missing it like crazy

This is a nice hotel, we booked it for our clients. Except two very major hiccups. First a day before our guests arrive and our room gets voided, because they cant find the payment. Secondly when booking a honeymoon table for our guests for 9:30pm which is confirmed by the reception AND the restaurant manager, our guests arrive 9:20pm being told that the restaurant is closed and get sent directly to their room. Why would the table be confirmed then?

The outside of the building is beautiful don’t get me wrong, but after that first impresión the place is a complete mess.Starting with the smell, the whole hotel, including all the rooms smell like cheap public restrooms scent what makes imposible to feel homey at all. We had to pay extra to be in the main building and not in a building in a small dark alley. The air condition didn’t work in our room so had the worst night ever. The bed clothes had holes. Its probably one of the most taken care of hotels in Stone Town with a relatively long history. We booked an apartment in a different building - the Freddy Mercury House. Everything was fairly ok and the staff nice for the most part. One of the receptionists insisted quite uncomfortably on a surcharge of $40 for an extra-person, whereas we agreed on $25 in advance. Also, note that the bed is quite uncomfortable if you are longer than 1,75m. The breakfast is good and has a large variety of foods - try the chicken curry, the sweet banana and the local coffee!

Freddie Mercury appartments are related to Tembo Hotel but are situated outside the hotel. In diferrent location. Ive rented appartment for 2 days and not a hotel room with purpose. I had my birthday and met new good local friends and friends from other countries on the internet and I wanted to have possibility to invite them in the appartment that I have rented to celebrate my birthday party. I assumed that renting an appartment gives me such possibility and specified number of guests to 4 people and actually paid for the appartment for 4 people. But when we came, guys from the reception told us that it is forbidden for non-residents to visit the appartment. I tried to explain them that I paid for 4 people and there are 4 of us. Ive rented an appartment not a hotel room with purpose not to have such kind of issues. We gave on the reception 2(ids) of 4. Other 2 guys forgot their Ids.Guys from the reception explained that guests could steal something from my or other appartments and its forbidden. I responded that if they steal something from me then its my responsibility and I trust my guests. Also I asked why there were no info that guests are not alloowed. And still I paid for my guests staying I rent appartment for 4 people. Also I asked to show the list of hotels rules and the exact rule that it is forbidden for guests to visit an appartment for a few hours. As I expexted there was no such rule. But still they didnt let us in.I am totally disappointed to be honest. I am expecting that when you are paying about 300$ for 2 nights you as a customer should not face that kind of issue. Or at least that rule should specified somewhere to avoild such kind of situations. My birthday party was ruined because of it.Because of late checkout and polite staff the I rating 3 of 10, otherwise it would be 1 of 10.Ive visited 26 countries and I never faced that kind of issue.

Breakfast is served on the beach, good variety but you need to be early to catch the fruit barBUT there was something wrong with management of this lovely hotel, the house keeping were very slow and they didn’t mind having us in the room, I noticed that their equipment were very poor for such an expensive hotel, if you have breakfast by the beach street vendors will harass you non stop to buy goods which kills the morning mode, our biggest challenge was during check-out there was NO ONE at the reception to carry luggage, take the keys or open the gate (was around 3 am), one rare time when I had to go across rooms to wake up hotel employees to do that :)

Delicious breakfast, nice clean rooms with big beds. Due to bed size the room seemed small. Swimming pool and nice restaurant view to the beach. The harbour is located close to the hotel with huge container ships which is why I only rate this hotel 4 stars.

Beautiful hotel, inside and outside! Breakfast is served daily and it tastes great! Easy walk to the beach which is right behind the hotel! Highly recommend to book nights at this hotel! They also have a sister hotel called Dhow Palace.
