We LOVE Maru Maru Hotel. It is in a perfect location, right in the heart of Stone Town. The breakfast is amazing with a wide variety. We spend much of our day exploring the town, then relaxing on the rooftop in the pool with cold drinks. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff is kind and attentive. Maru Maru is magical. We cannot wait to return.

I stayed at this hotel several times when it was first opened and while I was working on the Island. I left for 8 years and am now back on the Island and was so happy to that Maru Maru has gone from strength to strength. I also loved the addition of the roof top pool which was not there on my last few visits. in fact there appear to be a number of positive changes over the years which was great to see. What has not changed happy to see is the great value for money the hotel offers. Its close proximity in the heart of Stone Town has always been a bonus. The rooms and the hotel in general are spotlessly cleaned so well done to house keeping team. Reception staff and doorman as friendly as ever. this brings me to the only negative thing I experienced which was that staff dont greet guests when they see them (except reception front desk team) Waiters on the roof top a little surely and dont greet, neither do staff greet when encountered in the hallways. A real pity as the Zanzibars in general are real friendly. Service on the roof top for both breakfast and later afternoon sun downers lacked any sense of urgency and I had to twice ask for my bill, eventually going to the bar counter to fetch it myself. Other than that, I was overall happy with my stay and will be back for sure InshaAllah

Great hotel in Stone Town. Next to the Old Fort. The hotel is located on one of the alley like streets. The are lots of shops and merchants. Be careful not to get lost. The hotel it self is wonderful. The staff is great and helpful. Our room was very clean and modern mixed with traditional. The bathroom was great. Mini fridge. There is a gym. I was fortunate to stay there during an international film festival, which the hotel helped to sponsor. So I saw some short films and met some actors from all over the world. I wasnt familiar with them, but it was nice. The view from the Restaurant/Bar/pool, on the roof was amazing. The restaurant had great food and service. Breakfast, which was complimentary, was buffet style. Pro tip: Try the pineapple. I have no idea whats going on in Zanzibar to make the pineapples so delicious. Maru Maru is a great hotel. Would recommend it. The only complaint that I would make, and I understood the reason, is the managers were having load arguments in the middle of the restaurant during dinner. It was an overwhelming night, so I cant imagine the stress. But, the manager and GM had their hands full and it showed. They provided a great experience, though.

Maru Maru is my hotel of choice in Stonetown - I dont stay anywhere else! The location is excellent for visitors - close to Forodhani market, and within very close proximity to restaurants, coffee shops, the Freddy Mercury House, House of Wonders, the Old Fort, souvenir shops and Darajani market for those who might want to experience the bustling side of Zanzibar.Great value for money with clean, airy rooms, comfortable beds, beautiful decor and great customer service. The staff always accommodate my requests to the best of their capacity and thats why I keep coming back! The balcony has beautiful views of Stonetown and the turquoise Indian Ocean in the background. If this hotel was good enough for a visit by President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea Clinton, along with Hollywood actress Dakota Fanning, trust me, it is also good enough for you. We just had drinks on the rooftop during happy hour. The drinks were nice, reasonably priced, the staff was friendly and attentive and the view is spectacular (there is a nice little pool at the top as well). We walked through the various floors to get to the roof and the architecture is impressive--huge solid wood doors and tasteful art.

My stay was great however, i was disappointed a bit because the room was more expensive in person than online...when we book directly in person, the rooms should be reasonable, compared to the online as we paying a third party person, i had to spend another 15-20 mins booking online while sitting in the hotel lobby, other than that the hotel experience was great, especially because Im a frequent visitor to Zanzibar and i have stayed at quite different hotels around town.

This is the 3rd or 4th time Ive stayed at Maru Maru and it was as lovely as always. The staff are very helpful, the rooms are nice and clean, and the location is great. Views from the rooftop never disappoint. The only drawback to my trip, this time, was I forgot to put the sign on my door to avoid the turndown service. By forgetting, housekeeping removed the roomkey for the electricity and the mini-fridge turned off. I was storing my breastmilk in there for my baby. Thankfully the milk was still cold and not a loss, but it could have been if we had not checked sooner.

I dont usually give 5 stars to hotels or restaurants I visit but this deserves it.. I went there for dinner and I fell in love with the place.. It has great staffs, I enjoyed their good and swahili songs the band was singing.. The food was nice too.. The hotel looks beautiful with artistic taste which made me like it more.. Their restaurant is on the rooftop and you can see Unguja buildings beautiful.. And if you are sunset lover that is the best place to see it too.. You can also view the ocean just a little bit away.. It also has a swimming pool for swimmers and a bar too.. Will definitely come back and I will recommend it to others.. As usual I order chicken (My favourite) and Ice-cream which makes me sleep better.. But there are varieties of tasteful food.. Oooh I forgot it also has a gym and a tennis court which is amazing..

This is a very good hotel at the heart of Stone Town. You can literally just walk anywhere to Stone Town from this hotel. Its near to everything including Forodhani which is literally just a minute away. And the port is only 10minutes away by foot, 5 minutes for fast walkers 😅. Very clean environment and rooms. It has a lift which is very convenient, and makes it easier to someone in a wheelchair. Its a bit pricey but totally worth it.

Nice hotel in the heart of Stone Town. Great rooftop bar with finger foods and a live band. The music added a nice touch to the evening. Panoramic view of the city makes this a choice location for sundowners. The drinks were nice but their idea of prawns is actually pricy shrimps! The decor seems warm with greenery at strategic points and the rooftop swimming pool is a nice touch. There are electrical outlets at the rooftop so you van juice up your devices after a long day, while you unwind. NOT FOR EUROPEAN CUSTOMERS !!!Food and service are ok. While it is possible in almost the whole of Zanzibar to pay in Euro with the right conversion rate, in Maru Maru the staff tells you that dollar equals Euro, which means that a European customer pays about 20% more.
