The position is perfect to discover Stone Town. The dtaff is very nice, they even gave us a gift because we arrive on Christmas day (even though weve stayed only for one night). The wooden furniture looks elegant with a local exotic touch.Weve enjoyed very much the experience!

Really really bad service!! Absolutely NOT worth the money. The cleaning staff went through all our personal things, the inside of my suitcase was a complete mess, my necklaces in my jewelry purse has been knotted together though just before leaving the room I had arranged them nicely and the whole purse has been searched. 20$ were stolen out of the wallet inside a handbag. By accident they even put some clothes of the suitcase of my friend in my suitcase. After complaining to the manager, he apologized for the inconvenience but nothing happened. Despite going through our things and stealing money, the cleaning stuff literally didn’t do anything in the room except doing the bed. Neither the sheets nor the towels had been changed even once in the four days we stayed there though we specifically asked for new towels. Bathroom wasn’t cleaned not even once, the shower gel they provided had been used before, the bed and towel sheets had stains, our cups hadn’t been changed though we used them everyday. The WLAN wasn’t working in our room most of the time.At the end the receptionist wanted to insist on an extra 30$ for late check out though upon arrival we had agreed (with the same receptionist) that it would be included.Only good thing: the room was really big and beautifully decorated with traditional art. Also loved the traditional style of the whole hotel and the breakfast on the rooftop.

I dont know what happened here, but The receptionist was really unwilling. First, she wanted us to sign a paper that in case something gets stolen from us in the hotel, we are responsible. Booking didnt offer online payment and hotels post terminal was broken, so we had to pay cash, which would be fine but she wanted to charge us 10% more to pay in $. We needed to print a document for flying back home and she uninterested pointed us into a general direction to find a copy shop which was nowhere to be found and the ones we found on google maps were all closed. I have never experienced such unpleasant service. The place is pretty. Cleaning ladies were nice. Breakfast was similar to other hotels. and the staff was trying to sell us excursions.Mosquito protection had holes inside. The rooms are dark.Mind that the toilet has no door in case you are travelling with someone.

Important to readNo need to comment on the hostel - this comment on the staff is sufficientWe spent 2 nights in the hostel. Coming back from the restaurant on the second evening, the safe was not working anymore (code had been reinitialized) and our suitcases had been opened. After carefully reading some suspicious comments we asked the manager to come and fix it (while he was away) because our passports were inside. While waiting, the staff was suspicious and laughing when I asked if I could trust and the manager them because some comments were reporting weird things. So basically, here is what is happening in this hostel (and this is confirmed by other comments) - please read itFrom time to time - the manager is coming to a room (always before the last night of the stay, so that you wont have time to spend to go to the police) to check if there is money inside the safe with a key that opens every safeBest case scenario - the code is not functional anymore and the manager just pretend that it happens from time to timeWorst case - you had money in it and you are done because you had to sign a paper saying that you will not prosecute for any reasonsFortunately we only left a passport but another couple was stolen 500€ 5 days before (we met them after in Jambiani)The place is nice otherwise - so the only option if you want to stay in the hostel is to carry all your stuff and luggage all the time, as its 35 degrees, I guess you wont want to do thisPlease stay away from the hostel, the manager is a thief. I guess he will answer the same thing he told me on this night when we strongly argued sometimes the code change by itself. I am sure everyone agrees that a code doesnt change by itself :)

Good stay. They staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are interestingly decorated. The place antique and antique looking furniture and art. Its very conveniently located to shopping and beach. Steps to the old fortIf cant handle the stairs, this is not the place for you.Only criticism, offer cold drinks in the evening. The roof top restaurant would be a lovely place to sit in the evening with a cold water or soda.

Beautiful house with a lovely rooftop terrasse and a great location close to shops, restaurants, beach, markets etc. We had 3 rooms, and they were all very dark - and 2 of them had beds, toilet and shower in the same room. Most of the staff were nice but some seemed like they were very annoyed with us. The breakfast was ok, but it was surprisingly complicated to get the food. Next time I wiĺl go for a place with a pool.

Chose this restaurant for 2 reasons: 1) how beautiful it looked, and 2)convenience, theres restaurant located on the roof top.Sans the reception area, the hotel is aesthetically pleasing. The garden downstairs, the hallways, and the rooms, photo ops everywhere! My room was the Queen Africa room, and is exactly how its pictured on their site. However these are all the pros I can mention about this hotel. The wifi was spotty (like worked in one spot in my entire room, i had to stand to use it), and I could only put one device on it. The shower didnt have hot water, and there was no mini fridge to store water. The most disappointing part was there was no rooftop restaurant. I was traveling solo and I choose not to wander around at night alone, so I chose this hotel thinking I could grab a night time dinner after souvenir shopping. I asked about dinner start start time at about 5:30pm and was informed the restaurant only served breakfast. I was irritated because again I dont like to travel alone at night when solo. The guy in reception had a friend of his who happened to be passing by try to show me to a restaurant which was a 8 minute walk away but I was extremely uncomfortable with that situation (they asked for a contribution when I repeatedly told them I did not want to continue to the restaurant because I was uncomfortable taking the walk back by myself at night); I got lost on my way back. I would have left the hotel if I could have gotten my money back and stayed elsewhere.I left at 7am the next morning, so I didnt get to see the rooftop restaurant.Another issue was I ended up having to use cash to pay for my hotel stay because there was an issue with running my credit card at reception upon arrival. Once again highly inconvenienced. Though my pictures add to how beautiful the hotel seems, I could not recommend staying here. Upon visiting Zanzibar again I would avoid this hotel at all costs.

Pros: Gorgeous old hotel, well renovated and a really good value. The hotel staff was amazing and let us check in at 9am with no extra charge, because our flight arrived at 7:30am. Comfortable room, good if simple breakfast.Cons: They charge $15 to store your bags, which seems like a strange policy for a Four-Star hotel. Especially as many of the flights come in early or leave late, and the hotel has a 10am check-out.

The location is central and walking distances to everything in Stone Town. The hotel is absolutely beautiful inside, with interesting décor. The bathroom could be cleaner, and there was a bad smell from the drain. The bed was really comfortable. There was a lot of noise from the street like drumming after midnight every night (presumably due to Ramadan). Rooms were large and spacious. Staff were friendly and professional, but not very knowledgeable about the area.

Have a good look around after dinner.

The location in stone town is very convenient. The rooms are very unique and a cool experience. Its nice to have a safe inside to lock up valuables while you explore stone town. The rooftop restaurant is for lunch and dinner, while breakfast is served downstairs. We only had breakfast and unfortunately were pretty disappointed with taste, quality, variety and quantity. Some of the staff was really great (kind, helpful, professional) but sadly some of the staff was quite shocking (found sleeping in the lobby at 9:00am...). Overall, okay but needs a bit of quality control in our opinion.

The hotel and our room are lovely. The location is in the heart of Stone Town. Your taxi will NOT be able to drop you at the door. Simply put, it would get five stars if not for the staff. Check in took 30 minutes, as they simply didnt think my prepaid room matched my family. I showed them my paperwork twice. Sigh. Then one evening, we noticed the room had been made up, but no new shampoo or bath gel bottles had been supplied. My girls have lots of hair so shampoo is important. We asked for some upon our return from dinner. We were told they would send some up. It never arrived. Expect a great room in a fabulous space; lower your expectations on the staff.

We had a nice stay at this hotel. The Kama Sutra room was spacious and unique to say the least. The bed and pillows are a bit firm for our tastes. We did have a little hiccup with our safe not opening but it was promptly resolved. The staff was great. The food at the rooftop restaurant was excellent. We would stay here again the next time we visit Stone Town.

1. HygieneLocated in the heart of the old city, there are many rats inside and around the hotel.I stayed in the Princess Salme Room, the rats ran on the ceiling and was too noisy to sleep from 10 oclock at night. While staying for two nights, I also saw rats on the stairs of the hotel.2. Employees ability to solve problemsDespite these conditions, the staff members response was poor. The rats in the lodgings were insignificant for them and they did not provide a clear solution.Communication between employees is also a big problem, and the afternoon employee didnt know or didnt take any action.3. Untrustful ManagerThe manager in charge responded with a lie and a high-pressure attitude to avoid the moment. We did not receive the service for comfortable sleep after paying expensive accommodation. We had to argue with the manager to convey our inconvenience. The manager here acted like a market trader, not a service worker.4. WiFi is not available at the room. They have very slow Wi-Fi access in the lobby and no Wi-Fi in the room.5. Slow breakfastThis place is not a buffet breakfast, but it serves an order for each menu. The problem is that it takes too much time to take an order and get food. If you have a schedule in the morning, you should go ahead and order breakfast earlier than you think.(+ Others)* The bathtub is made of concrete so it cools down quickly even if you receive warm water.* The hot water tank is small, so the hot water drops quickly and the cold water comes out. It is recommended that the next person take a shower at least 15 minutes after the shower.* There is no door in the bathroom, so you could feel embarrassed.

Very unprofessional and profit-oriented! Our booked and paid room was cancelled one day before New Years Eve by email. The hotel didnt offer an acceptable alternative (but a 2-stars hotel outside of the city center for the same price) nor did it answer the phone. We know that this has happened to several guests this day. There is no way the hotel only realized that very day that it had overbooked! Profiting from tourists this way on a day, all hotels in town are booked-out, is really outrageous.

While the room style here is a nice traditional Zanzibar style, the hotel itself is not kept up.1. We reserved a room with 2 beds. After a bit of fighting with the front desk, it was determined that the hofho doesnt have rooms with 2 regular beds. It only has rooms with one nice big bed and a junky little bed that is terribly uncomfortable and made for a child .2. The AC does not work at all and after consulting with the staff, nothing was done .Basically they shrugged and left the room.3. Internet signal is completely useless in the room.4. Staff were not friendly and not organized at all.We just arrived here from staying in the remote bush in Ruaha and its facilities were far better than this place in the city.

The hotel is a prime example of style over substance. Sure, the interiors are very pretty and it’s in a central, convenient location. But it needs to get the little things right to make the stay more enjoyable. Some examples: terrible wifi that’s extremely slow and constantly disconnects, our shower drain was clogged so that you‘d be standing in water after 2 minutes, sink drain had a leak so water regularly spilled onto the floor, bathroom door constantly got stuck when opening or closing, very noisy staff calling to each other throughout the day.

We stayed at Jafferrji for 3 nights in the Salme suite. The design of the hotel is unique and stunning! Each room is designed different and the rooms (or suites) are very spacious with Arabian features. The room had two showers, one half closed and the other in the bath, an Arabian style high queen bed with designed mosqito net, T.V with cables and network of wifi in the room, and both air-conditioning and ceiling fans. The reception process is also very welcoming. We were set in a tiny room and we were served mango juice while they were making the room ready for us.There is a turn down service with candy on the bed, an amazing view atop at the roof restaurant, great spoiling breakfast which goes up until 10:00 and cooking class, for an additional fee.The reason we took one star off.The evening shift receptionist had a sour face all the time. The breakfast take ages to be served and the waitress also have a why the hell am I here attitude.in addition, there was WiFi in the room butnit was often a very slow connection.Furthermore, the rooms are pretty dark and could benefit from additional lighting.

Just avoid. I didnt have much expectations here as it is a cheap hotel but my basic minimum is having a clean room. We were allocated a room where literally nothing worked. No AC, the room was hotter than outside and more humid, it wasnt clean at all, the toilet looked like someone had diarrhea and didnt bother cleaning it, my feet got super dirty as I walked around (before I noticed it wasnt cleaned and flip flops were a must), my pillow had mould on it, shower leaked all over the place from the main shower head to the handheld so showering was a bit difficult and honestly Im not even sure if the cover on the bed was changed. We asked for another room which we got and it was much better. My review may have been different if we got that room straight away but Im afraid after that first night I cant say Id recommend this place. Sure, its a nice traditional building but then you are not sleeping there, you need a nice and clean room. Breakfast was average at best although not that I cared much about that.
