One of the best places for eating in Stone Town! There is a lot of different dishes and their all in display so that you can look and choose. I recommend to get a table and then point at the dishes that you wanna have, someone in the staff will then serve it, I found it faster and easier than ordering at the table. Staff is nice and fast! Good prices! Delicious food and fresh smoothies! π
No doubt that this is the best place to go for local food for lunch. Very crowded because its soo good. We looked on the counter and pointed on what we wanted to eat and our waitress told us all about the food they had, thats definitely the best way to order. Otherwise you could look at the menu but you dont get the same feeling.A must try is their chicken samosa π―π―
Warning β οΈ tourist trap. We asked our guide to take us there after all the good reviews. Lots of people so it took about 1 hour to be served, the food was cold, and the mistake and drink came half an hour afterwards so do not bother if you are hungry. No one special with the food either, it was cheap on the menu but the waiter adds at least 50 percent so you pay overpriced for a cheap food. Unpleasant staff or they do not even show a receipt and so onwarnings later discovered that the wallet was gone so beware inside
Must be the most popular local restaurant in town, cheap and cheerful. Gets extremely busy for lunch so you need to fight for your table. Great value for money although I was missing some taste/spices from the dishes, for example coconut was barely detectable - maybe itβs just the local style of cooking. Still, had my lunch twice here in 3 days. If you are a strict vegetarian- veggie pilau rice did have some small traces of meat and probably cooked in meat broth.
Great place to visit if youβre nearby Stone Town. Itβs a hidden gem, you almost donβt even see it when walking by but the food was really good, and the staff were friendly, itβs just if you order something thatβs not part of their ready made dishes it takes a bit longer to arrive but you can always get your food first then sit down to eat which may be faster in some cases. Truly recommend, if I was staying closer to this area I would definitely go again. By far the best food Iβve had on the island in my week long trip here.
Great place to have a taste on local food.. Great and fair prices.. It offers varieties and their staff are welcoming and fast.. I was disappointed it didnt have Urojo but was compensated with tasty and soft octopus π!! It is normally full especially in the evening so better come early.. Ooh I forgot I loved their big fur cat but I think I have a soft spot for them.. Great for watching football too since they got screens most places.. Definitely recommend it if you want affordable prices for food and Im sure you arent going to regret this..
The atmosphere of this place is something else. Its organised chaos with a vast variety of swahili dishes on offer. The biryani and chicken tikka is very delicious but the chapati is out of this world. I highly recommend the mango and passion fruit smoothie too, its amazing! You have to eat here if you pass through stone town, just be very patient and enjoy the entire experience. Dont expect Michelin star service and atmosphere but do expect very flavourful food and a truelly unique dining experience.
If you want an authentic experience and a variety of Swahili food you must go here while you are in Stone Town. The restaurant is full is life and delicious flavors. What is special about this place is that all of the options are on display and you can ask whether something is vegetarian etc. You also get a menu but for example a dish runs out they wonβt remake it so itβs very genuine. They also have a wide range delicious of juices and smoothies. The staff is great. The prices are absolutely affordable! Please note you can only pay in shilling - no USD or cards accepted. Everything we ate was delicious- make sure and make a stop there.
I had a nice Tuna steak, with some fries. The place itself represents Afrika. As an European it was strange, the level of hygiene and service is not as high, but if you go there you need to accept this. This restaurant has very nice food and beverage selection from the sea and the fresh fruits what they have locally. I can recommend it. The service could be better, but the time we were there it was full with people and they were very busy.Check the bill. We had some things charged double...
I went to Lukman several times. The first experience was not good, most likely because we ordered some chicken items and grilled tuna which were not so fresh and tasted like they have been recooked several times. My subsequent visits turned out to be much better as I ordered grilled octopus, squid, and seafood in coconut sauce which were all delicious! The restaurant is very busy with both local and tourists. Price is affordable and staffs (and cats) are friendly. I paid about 20,000 for octopus, squid, sauce and a drink which is a very good compared to other restaurants.
Perhaps the best place to eat in stone town. Visited zanzibar many times and found this place better than the 5* fancy hotels Ive stayed. Favored by locals and tourists, serves cooked local cuisine and fresh seafood which I always have there. Tried even their daughnuts and they are simply delicious. My friends had regular food not necessarily seafood and they rate it highly too. Can be chaotic lunch time, busy and not for everyone but highly recommended for simplicity of food. Fries are freshly made. Just ask for what you want it, how you wanted. Fresh juices are great. I specify to them, no sugar or water.
Quarter chicken too small. Could not taste the mango in the Mango passion juice. Tastes like diluted mango juice. Table service not up too standard. Got our drinks after receiving our food. Had to remind waiter to bring the ice that was ordered with the drinks.
This place was recommended to me by locals and tourist. Itβs a bigger style of place with a huge selection of different swahili food (from vegetable options to seafood, meat, etc.). I tried the whole fish with some interesting rice. Also, they have really good smoothies. The price is decent. Iβll probably go again next time coming to Stone Town.
Best restaurant of Zanzibar town , variety of food , variety of juices, quick service , fast delivery , customer friendly , some how it is a hub for plenty of tourist . People love their food. Every time I visited i enjoyed their variety of food and always i found the pace full with visitors ...
I just ate beef palao here and that was delicious. Price was TSH 7000 which is reasonable. I am an expert cook of Indian food. Iβm not an easy person to get a good review for food. If Iβm praising this place then it means β¦. Itβs really good :)
Really great food. Good atmosphere. Large variety of dishes including vegetarian and vegan. Good value. Its always busy especially at peak times. If you can reserve a table in advance. I loved the chicken curry and chapatti and the biriyani. Delicious!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! If you are white welcome to this place...if you are dark skinned like me,please avoid this place! The waiters are extremely biased only serving the white foreigners...If you speak swahili, you are even worse off. The food is not all its hyped up to be. My experience was very horrible. I and my party will not be coming here again.
Very busy restaurant. Serves authentic local Zanzibari food. Lots of variety of freshly squeezed juices. Staff are super friendly. The place is nicely built by the corridors of buildings with plenty of seating.
One of the few restaurants I MUST go to every time I visit Znz.Its always busy, and you may have to wait a bit sometimes to get a seat/service but trust me, its worth the wait. The food is top tier - full of flavour, great portions and great quality.Must recommend the pineapple and coconut smoothie, fried fish and a combo of chapati with beans in coconut. You will not regret.
The restaurant was recommended by the locals and it is some kind of buffet with a great variety of dishes. Everything we have tried was really delicious. You must try the smoothies, they are phenomenal. There is a little bit of disorganisation in the service, but I suppose that it is normal for such a type of restaurant.
Go here. You wont regret it. Its the cheapest of the surrounding restaurants. The menu is rich too.Downside: the place is not big enough to accommodate all people who flood in every day. So, expect to wait for people to vacate the occupied tables to get a place to seat.
Big disappointment. We ordered daal, grilled fish, and naan. Nothing was seasoned. The fish was old and inedible. The naan was not fresh. The servers are overwhelmed. I imagine this place has lost its quality due to the high demand. Its a shame.
After a long day of walking in the Stone town and checking out several places to eat, we discovered that Lukmaan is luckily open πGood food, local specialties with 70% discount, compared to other restaurants. The food is served warm, smooties are incredibly delicious. You can even have a food as take away. The restaurant operates similar to a canteen, but the quality is good!I wish we could have tried more πStaff is really nice and friendly. We had a pleasure of getting to know the waiter nr. 15. Apologies, I didnt capture the name.I would love to come back.
Best eatery ever. ....best fresh fruit juices ever (made upon order)....overall a 12 level on a 10 scale level.....Excellent food.....deliciously spicy....great service...10 Stars.....
Im not sure why is this place so overrated. First of all it is really chaotic place, when we came we didnt know if we should seat or order at bar. Nobody cares. We ordered some sea food, I guess it was already prepared before because octopus was pretty gummy and taste wasnt good π other food wasnt bad π€
An amazing restaurant with both locals and tourists. Once I discovered this restaurant I did not go anywhere else! The food is really cheap (5 000 - 15 000) and delicious. They serve breakfast too. When you enter, you pay for a drink on the left and then you proceed with the drink to the counter that is on the right from the bar where you order and pay for the food.
Awesome quality for the price paid! We ordered a variety of dishes, such as octopus in coconut sauce, chicken curry, king fish, sweet banana, deliciously fresh and hot chapati,... It seems to be always busy and is located in the middle of Stone Town. Apart from seating options on the ground floor, the restaurant offers a roof top on the first floor. We will definetely come back!
Semi-warm food warmed in a wicrowave. Smoothies are premaid. Good if you want an experience. Inexpensive price.Least impressive food experience weβve had in Zanzibar.
The best place to eat in Stone town. Fresh, cheap, and many tourists inside. Comfortable and cool. Like it very much
Vibrant melting pot of locals and tourists all gathered at Lukmaan for delicious food and fresh fruit juice. Definitely worth a visit, almost always a busy place but fast turns means you donβt wait long.Prawns in coconut were very good, starches are ordered separately so be sure to order rice/chapati/etc at the same time as your entree. Due to how busy our server was it was difficult to add to our order (for example, more chapati) and sometimes the order in which food arrives can be a little disjointed (we received our drinks after we were finished eating our entrees) but service was always with a smile and you can see they are working fast, just very busy! We will definitely go back!
Affordable food, very busy during meal times. Definitely a place worth trying out, local cuisine.
The staff was friendly showing us what they were making for the day. Prices are low so if you are hungry you can go crazy! I had chicken curry which was a little tasteless but all the other food that we ordered tasted really good. The shop looked very popular for both tourists and natives. We would probably visit this restaurant again.
Excellent quality priceIf youre looking for a fancy meal its not the placeThis is a local restaurant full of in and out people with great food
Probably the worst restaurant in Zanzibar. Service is abysmal. Never have I seen more useless staff congregated in one restaurant. I could do the work of 10 people working here and would not get tired. No running system for ordering food; it then takes ages to get something heated up in the microwave once you have managed to place an order at the counter; your food will be left in the microwave for 10 minutes until you ask them to get it out and give it to you. Food was exceptionally bad, nearly inconceivably bad. If you are a brainless tourist who likes to eat trash and feels good about it because this place makes you feel like home (because everybody eating here is a tourist), go for it.
Great local restaurant. Most of the food is visible behind glass so your can point. The paper menus also have photos. Waiters were very helpful The octopus was tender and nice, the naan was surprisingly tough and chewy
They have got some really nice positions. The only objection Iβd have is that they warm up many things in a microwave, which I personally donβt like. Apart from that, itβs an awesome place with good smoothies and food.
It is the best restaurant in Zanzibar Town. Good food, good drinks, multicuisine available, many tourists prefer the place and its relatively cheaper as compared to hotel food prices.I really like the place and eat there regularly since 2016!
A local guide took us there to have lunch and it was a great decision! If you are looking for authentic Tanzanian food this is the place to be.In the afternoon it gets very busy but with a little patience you will find a table to siy and eat π.The interior is designed to accommodate more people than your typical restaurant but it remains nice.Regarding the food you have lots of options mostly local and I can assure you that it tastes amazing! This is a mandatory visit if you come to Stone Town.To be recommended!
If you want to have an awesome meal (so so tasty and really affordable prices), you have to eat here! We just arrived yesterday in Stone Town and weve already been eating here 2 times. King/whole fish is amazing, the grilled octopus and calamari are yummy, and you have to drink the watermelon&cucumber smoothies π€ love it!
This is THE restaurant to eat in Stone Town. Fast and great service, delicious and tasty food π², and you can even eat local food . The natural juice π₯€ are the best. Its definitely Lovely environment to be with your friends .The strength of the restaurant its the relation quality and price. Completely affordable. I will be back there for sure.
Fantastic restaurant in the heart of Stone Town! Food is really tasty and fresh, the menu is quite various so you get the chance to try different plates of the traditional Zanibars cuisine.Staff is friendly and welcoming. The only down side is that it is always really crowded and noisy, and if you want to find the full menu you betyer go early for lunch, or many plates will be finished by dinner time.
Portions are small, service is slow and taste is ok. Dont understand the hype about this restaurant... The juices were good though and well pricedI think you can find better local restaurants
In my opinion, Lukmaan is overrated. Service is slow, food is so so compared to nearby restaurants and gets too crowded, which leads to delays in ordering and being served. However prices are okay for quick bites and they have a good variety of fresh juices. There are loads of cats lingering around and scratching your legs under the table for food.
Local place with a touristic touch..Good local swahili food.Authentic taste and pocket friendly.Loved it.
The first impression wasnt that good.. But after settling in and ordering food, the impression turned 180 degrees..The food is very delicious.. Juices were amazing.. Staff are very friendly.. And very reasonable prices
Nice atmosphere, delicious food, locals and travelers alike come to this place, a wide range of meals to choose from, a Baobab, which is a peculiar tree known especially in Tanzania in the center 9f this place. People were also friendly and in my case the food was delivered very fast.
Great food, lovely staff, especially enjoy the masala tea and the breakfasts with so much fresh fruit and juices
This place is AMAZING! Food is very good! I couldnβt believe the prices! Staff was friendly! Loads of locals go there too!
I enjoy the Kaimatis and Tea! Its a treat for me! ....and sea food, various types of vegetable curries like spinach, bitter brinjals, lady fingers, steamed mixed vegetables, biryani, my favourite juice a blend of avocado, mango and passion!!
Superb casual eating experience with none of the haggling dramas of street vendors. Locals come here and the food is excellent, especially the King prawns and grilled fish, with a variety to choose from. It can supposedly get pretty busy, which is understandable. Dinner crowd at 7:30pm was fine with wait time being barely five minutes. Select food with one of the very courteous and helpful waiters before sitting down. The mango smoothie is so rich that it can be saved for dessert. Thereβs a nice breezy covered upstairs dining area. Pricing is fair and same for locals and tourists alike. Highly recommended and definitely coming back.
This place is like no one else in Zanzibar ! Itβs known by locals ! So try it! Youβll receive a warm welcome, pick whatever you want, take a seat and enjoy, the waiter will bring you everything ! Smoothies are delicious πWe went there during Ramadan, so the place was really crowded ! Donβt panic ! Wait a bit, a seat will be ready soon for you!
Not that amazing as other tourists described. But still nice seafood and reasonable price! I ordered a big prawn and a set of octopus it costs 20000TZS. The octopus tasted ok, not that delicious but the prawn is extremely awesome! You can even eat the cover of the prawn because it is very crunchy after BBQ.
Great local restaurant! Many variaty of tasty food to choose and fast :) would recommend it! Also, the waiters are so nice!
