I went there for cross over. Absolutely loved it. I would recommend it for couples and family trips. Its a very relaxed set up. A must do is the safari blue tour. You snorkel, lunch ,swim at a lagoon , search for dolphins and enjoy all tropic fruits they have
I was blown away by the attention to detail and the feeling of being a valued guest. We were just another family. Yet Dass made it feel like we were some long lost relatives arriving for a family reunion. Dass - the hotel manager. If youre looking for a perfect location where to switch off and truly enjoy yourself, wonderful hospitality- this is the place to go to.And if that wasnt enough, then the hotel manager, Dass, will be there to check on you and try to fulfill your every desire.Truly cannot express enough what a gem this company has. Dass is one in a million, who will look after every single guest you have. ANY and ALL companies would be extremely lucky to have him on their team.Thank you for making our holiday feel so much more special, Dass! We still have that Family Photo and we will always remember you
Poor quality - extremely high expencesThe hotel is on a beautiful spot. But the place is no paradise. No wifi, Queen beds, no minibar, worn down, Music all Night,But the expences you pay are outrageous. 2 beers 10 usd, Water for a day 40 usd, lunch and other are easily 100 usd. Each day, each person. Welcome to Hotel California
Great location, approx 1hr from Zanzibar airport, $50 oneway transport, great communication thru Whats App, driver was kind and respectful. Resort is really nice with gorgeous grounds, clean pools. Spice Farms are close by, great to see more of the countryside. The resort mostly has a European clientele. We had to pay upon arrival, not sure why we couldnt pay when we checked out.Rooms are quite a distance from front desk, keep this in mind for people with disabilities.Beds are very hard, made with Styrofoam, European standards, not comfy like USA beds. We did not sleep well for 4days.Check out was 10am, manager did let us check out at 11:30amFood was rather repetitive daily/ All inclusive drinksBeach was not clean, seaweed needed to be cleanedPeddlers begging and bothering us on the beach, very tired, we could not enjoy beach time.Transport to airport was to expensive using USD, our money is worth alot in Tanzania.Europeans using their hands to handle food, and being unclean around the food area, we are still in Covid season. We paid $20 for 10minute ride to take the Covid Test Cost was $80, hotel of course making money off the scheme.Covid Testing location was in a bldg that was not temperature regulated, not a sterile environment. Im convinced Africa has turned the Covid testing into a money making business shamefully. The manager should hire beggers to clean seaweed and pay them. We have jobs and want to relax on vacation, not to be harassed.Unfortunately we would not stay here again, comfort is why we stay at resorts, not to lay in the sun.
A beautiful friendly resort. Made to feel very welcome from the start.Pure paradise
We can strongly recommend this hotel. The hotel facility is very clean and very well maintained. The beach and the water are fantastic. Our room was sensational and the beds exceptionally comfortable – rarely did we sleep so well! The rooms were cleaned daily and in the evening the beds were uncovered. Additionally, they always put a new bottle of water in our rooms. The whole staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the service was impeccable throughout. The restaurant was very comfortable and inviting. Every day there was a wide variety of delicious and healthy foods. Everything was always super fresh and prepared with love. The waiters and all the other employees of the hotel were extremely accommodating and always in a good mood. The entertainment program in the evening with live music / band or DJ was terrific; there was even a show with acrobats.A big thank you goes out to the manager of the hotel, Mr Dass. Never have we seen a manager that helps serving food at the buffet or clears the dishes. Mr Dass read every wish from our lips and did everything possible to make our vacation unforgettable. “No” was not an option for him. Simply outstanding! What is more, Mr Dass always went from table to table and asked for each guest’s well-being and if they needed anything. He was also working at the reception. It seemed as if he was working 24/7. The hotel may only have 4*, but as we’ve been to many 5*+ hotels, we can safely say that the service of Mr Dass has exceeded everything we have seen so far! The hotel can be glad and even proud to have such a committed manager! We’ve always felt welcome and just like at home. We will definitely come back and are already looking forward to it!
The chalets are absolutely amazing!!! Hotel Manager Mr Dass is hands on and handful. I enjoyed sundowners, the bartender Shomary knows how to do his thing!!! Most of the staff is very friendly
Place is great and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Food and drinks are good, there is plenty of activities and you feel extra safe. The only drawback is massive amount of tourists from Russia, who dont understand a word in English and dont really care about anything as they scream, interrupt and argue. Hopefully after the pandemic Russians will some other destination as it is really a shame to lose such a quiet and nice place
Unforgettable holidays! At Sultan Sands, my husband and I spent 2 weeks of December. We got a room (Bahari - 1st floor) with an amazing ocean view. Room cleaned twice every day, in the evening additionally sprayed with insects. Service - from waiters, cleaning ladies, barmans, gardeners, etc. - all incredibly helpful, always smiling. The Manager is also constantly present in the hotel and takes care of the guests well-being. Top notch food. Every day something different and everything is delicious. Private hotel beach, with sun loungers (+ mattresses and towels) easily available during the day. Beautiful white public beach in front of the hotel - only negative is a lots of locals offering magnets and tours. Amazing tides of the ocean - possibility to walk more than 2 kilometers deep into the ocean - water shoes necessary. Single animations during the day (football, volleyball), peace and quiet allowing for a pleasant rest. Live music and shows in the evenings. For Christmas, additional attractions and a gala dinner were prepared. Paradise! We definitely recommend it!
Service excellence, clean public areas. Responsive staff.
Very nice located hotel with excellent access to the sea and really nice staff. Huge congratulations to manager, who’s keeping every guest happy and solves every problem immediately. Food is fresh, with great variety of fruit, meats and vegetable. Room is filled with everything You wish to have in Zanzibar, tiny minus for water (low pressure in the shower- but it is problem of Zanzibar, not hotel itself).
Food was AWFUL, uneatable, my room had dirty sheets, the flush was broken (with the smell of sewer coming out of the toilette) and there were no enough deckchairs on the beach for all the guests. The level of cleanness disappointing. The sea is amazing but the rest is To avoid.
The hotel is really nice, the beach is very clean and the people there are very nice. But it says theres a snack bar, while there is no snack bar. So you cant eat at the hotel from 2pm - 7.30pm. If you are hungry you can go to the village near the hotel and buy something there :). All this place needs is a snack bar and itll get 5 stars.
Sultan Sands is located in Kiwengwa, next to the beach. Kiwengwa country side is just outside the hotel. Sultan Sands is connected to another hotel – BlueBay. Both hotels are cooperating, there is possibility to walk from one to another without going ‘outside’. From airport, it’s about 1 hour of driving. Hotel is huge with beautiful garden (so green!) – there are many places for walk.We had a room in Baobab section with pool and ocean view. African standard is different than European or American one, but these rooms look very nice and spacious. There is a huge king size bed with mosquito net, TV, safe, small shelves for stuff and place for luggage. Bathroom is huge with nice stoned shower. I was in many hotels across the globe and the weakest point of the hotel is usually the housekeeping. In Sultan Sands, housekeeping is doing really good job. Rooms are clean, there is no dust or insects inside. Housekeeping always comes twice: first in the morning/afternoon for general cleaning and closing mosquito net, and second during dinner to open mosquito net and spray for insects. All meals are being served in one restaurant. Breakfast 07:00 – 10:30. Lunch 12:30 – 14:30. Dinner 19:30 – xx:xx (don’t remember). There is a huge variety of meals and different cuisines – African, Indian, Italian, sea food, fish, etc. Anything you will take, you won’t regret. Just keep in mind that the food is not spicy, even if they put some chili inside – it still won’t be spicy so don’t worry. Everything is very tasty and well flavored. You have to try soups and fish from grill ! From time to time there is theme dinner night like Indian evening. There are three bars (the one in Baobab section was closed). They are open from 10:00. Huge congrats and big thanks to the bar staff. They are doing their job with passion and huge commitment can be seen on every step. All drinks are being made in your eyes, they are looking after every detail. There is a huge variety of drinks but also of cocktails (non-alco). They are so good, so tasty, so refreshing! Some people were saying that they won’t give you more than one – it’s not true. It all depends how you behave, if you are rude… I didn’t observe such a thing.Pool is ok, looks deep (up to 2m) and huge enough. I cannot say more because due to healthy issues, I didn’t try it out. Water in pool is not coming from ocean, it doesn’t contain chlorine as well. It looks like it’s a tap water but maybe I’m wrong.Beach is so beautiful. It’s wide, sand comes from coral and it’s easily accessible. There are huge tides. In the morning and afternoon, deep is around 30cm almost 500m from the hotel. After the lunch and evening, water comes directly to the hotel’s stairs. Shoes to the water are mandatory because of jellyfish and sea urchins.Check-out us at 10:00. All-inclusive is finishing at 14:30 so when lunch is finished. There is a possibility for late checkout. It costs 50 USD per room, and it’s only a room (up to 17:00), all-inclusive services still finishes at 14:30. Lunch is the last meal in last day. When you buy in shops in the hotel, you can pay immediately or during check-out. Everything in the hotel is being sold in US Dollars. However it’s worth to buy some tanzanian shillings to use it in local stores outside the hotel. Watch out – hotel is converting money only in one way: USD to TZS.Sultan Sands contains two gates. There are guards at the gates as well as at the beach. Beaches are safe but don’t go out after sunset. Despite the fact that Zanzibar people are happy, cheerful and friendly, you can have mixed feeling outside the hotel. When you are leaving the hotel, you are being asked why you are leaving and what’s your room number – for your safety. There are no so many tourists walking around in Kiwengwa, everyone is offering you something.Sultan Sands is a very good proposition for short as well as longer stay. It’s very good hotel with perfect quality-price ratio. Everyone from the hotel personnel is very friendly, always saying ‘jumbo’. Do I recommend? Of course!
I visited this resort with my family to have lunch at their restaurant. Unfortunately I was met with a stand offish and welcoming staff who insisted that we paid a minimum charge BEFORE we ate. Obviously we went to another restaurant. Terrible experience ... dont waste your time.
Property and location are both great. Really enjoyed our stay. All staff and bar tenders were amazing. Dass really went out of his way to ensure our stay was extra amazing.
Worst hotel we stayed in all of Tanzania. Our bathroom was so disgusting. Taking a shower or using the toilet was not a pleasant experience at all. It smelled like sewage and mold. The smell was so strong it woke me up the first night and we had to keep the door closed at all times to keep the smell from seeping into the room. You had to rush in and out when showering or using the toilet. The smell was disgusting and moldy. All the metal coffee carafes they give guests to use all had a green rusty substance at the spout. I am suprised we didnt get sick. The room itself was just ok. The food was good but we stopped eating when we saw the cook use the same tongs that were used on raw chicken to serve cooked chicken.Their staff is very pleasant but are definitely overworked and underpaid. I have to say, the place had a slavery days feel to it. I conducted my own survey and learned that they work at least 10 hours a day, are paid poorly and the guests rarely tip. You will see these people running around all day, every day trying their best to keep rude, drunk guests happy. Saddest thing I have ever witnessed. Then to top it off, the guard had the gate locked and wouldnt let us leave after checkout because we didnt have a special exit ticket. He refused to open it even though we had proof of payment. He made us go back to the lobby to get the special ticket that basically was a handwritten note saying we paid and can leave. They should have given to us the note at checkout then there wouldnt have been any confrontation at the gate. It felt like we were being held hostage and treated like criminals. Do not go here unless you like being grossed out and treated like a crook. This place is nasty and has a major mold problem you can see evidence of it everywhere. For the price we paid, it was not worth it and was gross. Its an overpriced, moldy, old hotel.
Beginning with the reception, all staff members welcome you warm and quickly, whenever you arrive there (especially big thanks to Joyce, Anna and Manuel). Joyce was reachable at every time for us, and did so much more than necessary. At the restaurant were also so many employees non-stop working as hard as possible. Respect for that. Here we met Rhoda, who told us many nice impressions of African lifestyle. Everyone did a great job. The people from the bars are also great and serving good drinks at every time! The evening entertainment was lovely, the dance acts of the staff members amazing. The hotel-ground offers much space and possibilities. Everything was clean. The buffet was great and offered also a big variety. The only thing to improve: the gym. It is old and not suitable for a good workout. The bars are dirty and the walking-machines are extremely noisy. Please spend money on it.Thanks for a great vacation.
My partner and I want to book this hotel. But, we have a urgent question....Who stayed in a room with 2 Queen side beds instead of 1 big single bed?My question for you: is it posible to join 2 beds togheter to make it 1 big bed?Thank you so much!
Nice resort. clean and clear beach.good service.very helpful and friendly staff all around.manager Mr dass was also very helpful.very good mixture of greenery, palm trees and natural effect.food varieties excellent . evening activities also good.good value for money.

It was our most wonderful holiday :-) The hotel is well situated, right next to the beach, from the pool there is a view of the beach and turquoise water and palm trees. This side of the island has more activities (diving, snorkeling, kite). Great lunch and dinner, very friendly service. A large selection of cocktails and spirits at the bar (11.00 - 24.00). Special thanks to the facility manager, Mr. Dass) for the great care of the guests and the atmosphere that he creates in the team. Lots of attractions included in the price of the stay, we especially appreciated kayaks, bicycles and paddle boats. Snorkeling in the sea at the hotel is also very exciting. We liked it so much that we extended our stay for another week. We recommend !!!
Medium sized resort located on one of the best beaches in Zanzibar. The staff is kind, smiling and competent. The manager: Daas, is present at all positions, very attentive to the well-being of customers and always available when needed. We appreciated the catering, the entertainment offered in the evening, the spacious and very well-equipped rooms, the decoration and the setting of this establishment….in short, it was a very nice and pleasant stay!!!We recommend!
Amazing home!! You have to pay in advance to be able to eat lunch and stay a little at the pool.Very average buffet, however it is a scandal. We had 3 glasses of medium quality white wine.To be paid in addition to the all inclusive buffetThe glass is the most expensive of our stay at €9 a glass of white wine!!!!This price is completely prohibitive.
Hotel Small, intimate with a beautiful and clean restaurant and delicious food. Very large rooms with a huge bed and a large extra bed for a child. Everywhere nearby. Service always smiling and very helpful. Beautiful beach with lots of sun loungers. I RECOMMEND
Very good choice! Hotel on a sandy place with sand, friendly service, room cleaned 2x a day (cleaning and exposure of the mosquito net during breakfast, closing the mosquito net in the evening during dinner), typical breakfasts, without a large selection of dishes, but completely sufficient within 1 week, but dinners really varied, you found sushi, lobsters (!) and whole tuna and marlins (1.5 meter long tuna hanging next to about 3 meters of marlins, from which the cook cut pieces of meat and fried them on a regular basis). Clean rooms (we got the one in a two-story house by the square pool on the first floor), the air conditioning works all the time, even when we are not in the room. I have no opinion about the mini-bar because I did not use it, and I will not say about the lunch dishes as it was so hot that I mainly used the bar ;-) , chase crabs and soak feet in warm water). One time shortly after midnight I noticed 2 men spraying against mosquitoes. And in fact, there were no mosquitoes (I do not know if it was the role of spraying or the constant wind from the sea), we did not use repellants even once. The tides were very high, at high tide the waves approached the piles driven by the shore, at low tide I reached the shore reef (I measured 1300 - 1500 m from the shore on the google map). A very interesting experience. You must take solid shoes because you can find a lot of sea urchins. Its worth taking the camera for underwater filming, I found 2 anemones with clownfish (Nemo fish). What bothered me: Indian ravens that are dominant in Zanzibar and still croak, and the intrusive marketing of locals. It is true that the guards keep them at the water line and they do not enter the hotel premises, but when going to the water they will rather catch tourists. They are very polite, but they keep talking. It is possible to send them off, but they usually follow you until you enter the water.Algae farms are very interesting, they are completely covered at high tide and it is safe to swim over them, at low tide women tie new algae to strings. If it wasnt for the fact that I want to see other places, then to the Sultan Sands Hotel - I would definitely come back !!!I give strong 5 stars !!!!If anyone wants to know any additional details, please send an e-mail to: m.napierala (at) post.pl
We had lunch in this hotel already you have to give a deposit before eating. All inclusive (not top quality) except drink. We had to pay in addition the glasses of wine at 8 €. Very expensive for Zanzibar. We toured the island in other excellent 4 stars. Very disapointed
