Great afforable accommodation with good breakfast. Location is prime. There is a penthouse room on the roof which was still being repaired when we stayed here, but the manager, Anita, let us stay there for a very good price. Views of the city from this room are aspectacular! We were there during low season so prices can be negotiated.

This is a budget hotel/B&B. It is very close to Forodhani. Walking distance to ferry.  If you are looking for a no frills place in the middle of Stone Town this may work for you.Clove only serves breakfast.  The roof top restaurant that is used for breakfast is airy and has reasonable view. Breakfast is fresh fruit, eggs prepared to your liking, toast, and sausage. Corn flakes, tea, coffee, juice also available. Not for those who cant navigate stairs, especially to the 4th floor roof restaurant for breakfast.Rooms have no AC but the ceiling fan was sufficient for us. The room stayed cool even in summer. We stayed in a double/queen. There was no view. I believe family rooms on upper floor have view. Room not large but clean. Has bed, clean bed linens, towels but bring everything else, including soap and bottled water. There is no closet for hanging clothes. No hooks either. Felt cramped at times. But it was clean. Our room had two outlets for charging our devices. We had uninterrupted power. There is a multifunctional small staff. They try to attend to your needs. We did have to request water to be pumped 3 times during our 4 night stay. Also needed to request a bucket for toilet flushing as our toilet did not flush efficiently. Sink is outside the toilet, in the sleeping area, not an issue for us.I suggest to staff to change or wash cushion covers in reception area, a bit of an eye sore.If you want quiet, forget it. The neighbors are noisy, just normal family activities. Our window faced the back and being Stonetown, felt like neighbors, including an alpha rooster, who we only heard but never saw,  were outside our window. No one volunteers to help you with your luggage.Takes no credit cards, cash only.

Basic hotel on a budget. In heart of stone town. Good basic breakfast and very friendly staff. WiFi is patchy and power and water was out for half a day. I found beds very very firm but that seems to be Zanzibar norm. Beds were made but rooms werent cleaned out. Bathroom a bit cramped but useable

Echoing what everyone here has to say about the location and beauty of the space. I wish I could teleport to the rooftop pretty much every night. Also would be remiss to not point out that its one of the few places in Stone Town where wine can be had for a very reasonable price and without having to dodge overly friendly Zanzibros. But really, the best thing about this hotel was the people. First thing, of course, Lisette is an outstanding proprietress - chill but responsive, friendly, cool, and full of information about Stone Town. Her staff are rock stars, interesting and knowledgeable people who showed saintly amounts of patience tolerating/helping to improve my minimal Swahili skills. But this hotel also just seems attracts the dopest folks around and the best part of my stay was all the random rooftop chats with friendly, interesting people.Yeah, the fancy places have higher thread counts and water pressure, but theyre not nearly as much fun. I cant wait to come back.

Rooms are too small. The neighbourhood is noisy, could not sleep because of cats and pigeons on the balcony. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, we moved after 1 night. I do not recommend this hotel.

Great location in the heart of Stonetowns activities. . The rooms are well decorated with African motifs. Spacious and bright rooms illuminated with a clean balcony. the terrace on the last floor offers us a beautiful sunset and a beautiful view on stone town. The whole family loved the place ... The staff are very pleasant and professional. And the breakfast on the roof terrace is complete and delicious !!

I went in February 2014 to the Clove Hotel in Zanzibar, the hotel has been completely renovated, I met the new manager Laurence, she is very helpful and available as well as all her staff. She introduced me to the city of Stone Town and helped me with my shopping.Small hotel with a lot of charm, very clean, a superb view of the sea from the terrace of the restaurant in addition, we can drink a Nespresso accompanied by a real pain au chocolat !! They make good homemade ice cream and jams. Laurence organized excursions for me: Spice Tour and Sunset Cruise.

It is a middle place compared to other hotels in the area. Recommended for those who do not want to spend a lot in the hotel. The breakfast is not that good. It has a great roof and the staff is very helpful.
