Excellent rooms, simple but comfortable and clean!The hotel is in a very secluded place and perfect to just relax and enjoy nature. There are few rooms so you always have the beach mostly for yourself, which is exactly what I wanted.The food was AMAZING! Delicious and well served portions. Cocktails were very tasty as well.Super friendly and helpful staff, always making sure that everything is perfect!

Beautiful location and great beach for swimming and snorkeling! We found all the staff very friendly and accommodating. The food was fresh and delicious. This was a great place to spend a few days relaxing after our safari and I would certainly recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing beach location.

Everything about this hotel was absolutely incredible. From the moment you arrive for check in untill the moment you check out. Staff offers great service. Room are beautifully equipped but lack AC (needed in Zanzibar) private pool gave the feel of privacy. Main infinity pool offers the most incredible views over the ocean. Breakfast on the beach and absolute must. Definitely reccomend. Thank you for an incredible stay.

Wife and I spent a portion of our honeymoon here and had a marvelous time! The hotel itself has a gorgeous setting, but it was the friendly staff that set it apart of other destinations we’ve stayed at.

One of the best beach hotels we have ever stayed at. The staff here is extremely friendly, the rooms are almost as beautiful as the beach, and the food is very good. Happy hour is great and the drink prices are reasonable. The pool is also fantastic. Great place to stay. The airline lost our luggage and the hotel was very helpful in trying to recover our lost bags.

Lots of options for breakfast. For dinner 3 options and few veggie options. I recommend getting the fish platter (its more than enough for 2, took 3 of us).WiFi is good enough.This is probably my best beach holiday. Already looking to book again.

A home away from home. Peace, quite and tranquility!!

I don’t know where to begin. I went alone for my bday and they made me feel right at home. Dinner was great every night. My room was so close to the water. I don’t recall any bugs or anything in the room. Lots of geckos tho. There were plenty of hammocks and beds to lay on. The staff was my favorite part. They were just so helpful and sweet. I feel terrible I couldn’t tip them more at the end. I literally gave them all the cash I had left. They absolutely deserved more than that. I hated leaving. If I get another opportunity I’d definitely come back. I didn’t have a single bad experience. I just wish they had their own spa I had to get a taxi to another resort in order to get to a spa. Wasn’t a problem just seemed odd they didn’t have their own. Also, they have a great collection of books you can read.

If you want to choose a remote, quiet hotel with an amazing private beach this IS the best choice. The personnel is amazing as well and tends to all your needs.

The overall facilities are pretty and pleasant. The bushbabies are a true highlight. We enjoyed having a private pool. Unfortunately in February the heat in the room was oppressive. It was hotter inside than outside. Dont snorkel at the hotel. The equipment is old and lacks proper sizing for most feet. The food is excellent but, with the exception of a waiter named Moody, the wait staff is a true trial to deal with. We needed extreme patience at every meal and had to send food back a few times do to their mistakes. It was not limited to one individual. My friend described the service as extremely awkward. Despite this, they were nice and friendly.

The Hotel is super nice the beach as well and the rooms are very good but I didnt like the reservation manager and its because shes quite rude she doesnt respect the customers and talk to them as customers shes not hospitality not friendly and I argue for the reservation policies to be reviewed and to be made customer friendly and easier to understand by mentioning all the rules and procedures when comes to children accommodation. Thank you it was great time to be there though

The best one, more than 5 stars on all services! Nice welcome and journey. Staffs pay attention to all your needs. Restaurants chiefs are the best, all meals changes everyday they know very well how to cook excellent fishes, shells, etc...Clean, calm and relaxing area, excellent snorkeling with Alis boat. Sea suite view lodge with the private pool is the best choice :)

Seclude and great hotel and five star staff. The beach is just amazing (even if you cannot swim at low tide). Excellent restaurant even if a little pricy in the evening. The lunch menu and the breakfast are first class. All in all, the chef is great. The two cats of the hotel (special thank to Dean) are great.

Lovely location right on the beach, we came for a few days of pure relaxation and thats what we got. Rooms were kept clean, good shower. Nice pool. Food was below average but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time here!

Our stay at Pongwe Beach Hotel was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious, lots of fresh fish on the menu every day. The setting is idyllic and very private and the hotel immaculate. The staff were all extremely friendly and attentive.

Nice place for a weekend. Food is okay. No wifi in the room. At first we were not sure if that was a good thing. But we realized it wasnt so bad. At least we were not busy with our phones all the time. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Lovely hotel with a fantastic beach front. Dinner was always amazing while the lunch menu was a bit of a let down in comparison. Rooms were large with their own pool, with only an air conditioning unit missing which meant sleeping at night was quite difficult with just fans. When the tide went out in the afternoons its nice to walk along the beach and visit other nearby places.

Fantastic location, tucked away and situated on a secluded beach. Only 20 rooms, nice and exclusive. Food is delicious and staff are friendly. The beach is absolutely gorgeous an completely private - what is there not to like?

Beautiful location and facilities as well as Fantastic service. Hands down the BEST service I have ever had at a hotel. All of the staff went above and beyond to help us enjoy our stay. My husband was very sick when we arrived (food poisoning from a restaurant in a nearby town). One of the waiters walked to a nearby farm, bought some ingredients and prepared a local remedy (a drink with aloe, honey and herbs). It almost instantly eliminated his nausea and soothed his stomach. We were incredibly grateful and he wouldnt even accept a tip! When we told them that we had a very early flight and would need to leave around 1 am, not only did they arrange a taxi for us, they even prepared us each a wonderful boxed breakfast to take with us!

Beach 5/5 - the beach is beautiful, very clean and well maintained.Grounds 5/5 - trees and foliage were stunning.Food 4/5 - the food is good, but not great. Something different on the menu every night which was nice.Service and staff 4/5 - overall really great. Very friendly and accommodating. We had one bad experience where we had to send a dish back multiple times because they just werent understanding.Room 2.5/5 - we stayed in room #4. Amazing location, facing the water and just a couple steps from the sand. Comfortable lounge chairs on the porch. The room itself was just not very nice overall. Spacious room with high ceilings, but a terribly outdated bathroom and floors that always felt gritty and dirty (needs a couple rugs). The shower is open so water gets absolutely everywhere. Also should note that the shower water is actually salt water, which doesnt leave you feeling clean after a fresh shower.Wifi 1/5 - I know, I know, youre supposed to be on vacation, but I thought I would mention it anyway: the wifi here is absolutely horrible. Constant dropped connections and crawling speeds (less than 1 Mbps down).

We have only stayed in this hotel on the East coast but had a trip to another hotel when diving plus dinner at the Rock and I must say that the quality of the beach and beautiful colour of the ocean was remarkably nicer here (and more private) then anywhere else weve seen.HUGE THANK YOU for the staff as well as theyve been more than excellent and the most professional during our 2 weeks in Tanzania, they were honestly so good that would beat any 5* chain in terms of service.We also had a lobster dinner which they have beautifully prepared us to have on the beach, in the sand, surrounded with fairy lights - the experience easily beaten the dinner at the Rock and a MUST for people staying here (or the fish platter or the catch of the day).

Amazing resort in every way. The food is incredible, we ate every meal here during our 3 night stay and were never disappointed. The mixed alcoholic drinks are hit or miss but everything is reasonably priced. This hotel has a great beach regardless of the tide (this can be a big problem at some beaches in Zanzibar). The location is very isolated but we never had any intention of leaving the hotel anyway, theres really no reason to. All the staff were great. The chef is exceptional, the food was on the same level as Michellen star resturants weve been to. The rooms are very clean, mattresses is comfortable but be aware that this is more of a beach cabin than a hotel room, the windows have screens but no glass which lets a nice breeze in but makes air conditioning impossible. There is a air conditioning system built into the bed to control the temperature in the bed but it is far from perfect, you will have to adjust it a few times throughout the night but it can definitely keep you nice and cool. I would definitely recommend this hotel based on the beach, food and staff.

I was on the fence about 3 or 4 stars, but this location is just unbeatable. When you think of a paradise type destination, this beach definitely fit the bill. Not only was it a gorgeous beach with tons of areas for lounging, the high tide and low tide enabled you to walk REALLY far out when it was low and that was a really cool experience.They also have a wonderful infinite pool which made the experience that much better (I dont really love the beach, but Ill lounge at a pool all day).The service was also always really friendly. So why was I thinking of a 3? A few reasons:1) The food was just OK. We did a $35 per person buffet because well, it was the only option for dinner, and it was a Swahili BBQ. Maybe other tourists who arent in the country dont know, but Swahili cuisine really isnt that good and certainly doesnt have many options. We basically had a bunch of rice and then meat/seafood skewers, and while the food was good, it was just really basic for the cost. Thats a steep cost for a buffet, even in the US. The breakfast was also pretty bad.To be fair the lunch we had before we left was AWESOME. Pizza and the club sandwich and they were delicious.2) The brackish water and the room itself was just OK. The bed was nice, but I didnt love the bathroom and the salt water was pretty annoying.3) Snorkeling was OK and I dont regret doing it since its $15 per person. It was a quick excursion at 1.5 hours, though that was mostly because I wanted to go back in. Captain Ali and his helper was really nice, but didnt speak much English. He also showed up 20 minutes late, and took 20 minutes to get the boat closer to shore. The snorkeling itself was alright, my flipper was broken, and the water wasnt that clear so you couldnt see too much. You also were kind of far from any reef so you had to dive down sometimes in order to see anything. It also was many small circular rock areas of reef, so we just followed up and would swim from one to the other, but they arent that close. If youre looking for a quick snorkel just to say youve done it, go for it. If youre looking for awesome snorkeling, do a bigger excursion at a better reef.The last thing that really made this a higher rating for me is the 3 Man Acoustic band! They came in at dinner and went around singing, and they were just so entertaining. They were super into it and were fun to watch, and I ended up buying their CD.I would definitely stay here again, and wish we had more than a day and a half. Just lounging around at the pool, eating lunch, and taking in the view is enough to make it worth the trip!

The hotel is fine, nice pool and the view, BUT: people should know that there is no fresh water in bottles for free, all they give you is a very small bottle when they clean room, and its so hot in there, you need lots of water, 1 bottle cost 3(!!!!) USD. Dinners are $30 per person without drinks. Only breakfast is included. Dont forget that hotel is outside of city, you have no choice but eat there. Or nearby island restaurant where you pay even more for dinner. And water in ocean is CRAZY HOT, LIKE A HOT TUB. I would not come back. Unless you love to swim in hot ocean when its +32 outside. I burned on the beach even with sunscreen. Be careful with sun.No WiFi in rooms.I was there in February this year.

One of the truly hidden gems of Zanzibar. Probably the most beautiful beach in the area as high tide covers the neighbouring beaches. Staff is super friendly and helpful. You can kayak and snorkel or just lay on one of the sun beds and relax. This is our first stop on Zanzibar and we are already wishing we could spend all our days here.

A very charming hotel in a stunning location, only six room for an experience of a place far away from the crowded resorts. Italian cuisine with chef Umberto is focused on seafood combining the flavors of Zanzibar with the tradition of Italian food: spaghetti with sea ​​urchins ... forget about it are excellent. A place where must to go during an holiday in. Zsnzibar.

Food is very good by Zanzibar standards. Rooms are comfortable but not luxurious. At the end if the day it is a great place to stay with amazing sea views and a chilled out atmosphere.

Beautiful resort on the beach. Bungalows are gorgeous, spacious and incredibly comfy. The grounds and pool and bar area are amazing and always neat! Staff were all wonderful and tried really hard to assist with any and all requests. Food was not great and rather over priced but theres always other places in the neighbouring villages where you could go eat. Perfect place if you want quiet and relaxing time. Definitely the quiet side of the island but Keningwe or Uroa is just 15mins drive away in the either direction if you looking for a party or beach bars.

The hotel is deep deep deep inside the forest. It needs maintenance and the pictures online are nothing close to the actual state. Its over rated.The manager - Heidi was not welcoming at all. She was close to flippant and lacked genuine customer (hospitality) care. She was cold and dismissive.She was at the reception when we got in, and she showed us the available room, the room was poorly lit, they were not anything like the pictures displayed online, dirty bathroom floors - large reddish brown stains that were hideous (which i mentioned and she replied that the stains were difficult to clean off terrazzo tiles), and the room smelt really damp, at the chunky rate of $200 per night.I asked why the rooms looked like so and still cost so much, and she said they had better beach and food than the nearby hotel, as if that justified the drabby looking room.We were happy to be on our way.
