We did not stay at Zanzibar Queen but since our hotel did not have a swimming pool, we spent quite some time here during our trip. I cant say anything about the rooms but the food and service are both amazing. During our stay in Zanzibar we have eaten a lot of fish/seafood in many different places, including The Rock, but Zanzibar Queens was the best in my opinion. Definitely try the Octopus there! The staff are also very friendly and the overall service is very good. Even though we did not stay at the hotel, we always felt very welcome.

The beach is big but the water is full of  sea urchin starting 3 meters offshore, so no ocean swimming at all because of that. So you can swim only in the hotel pool.Good place for max 4 nights, than it gets a little bit boring, not much to do in the area.

Good hotel, good rooms and clean. The area in which the hotel is located, is very chill and quiet.Food is mediocre for breakfast and in the evening -we went for a barbeque- it was ok.All in all, a good hotel if you want some quiet time and relaxation.

Was originally going to leave only 2 stars. I paid $180/night, and when I checked in I was vastly disappointed with the room.Immediate negatives:-Weird aesthetic and colors. Ugly green furniture-Only 1 pillow per bed side instead of 2 full pillows-Curtains we’re ugly-Cheap looking furniture-Green walls??-Very small room for $180-Motel style walk in (whereas all rooms are located in a long outside hallway)It seems like they rushed the development of the rooms and made them look like a cheap $40/night motel room.On the positive side (for the rooms):They have:-very nice essential oil shower soap-nice bathroom sink/toilet-high pressure hot shower water-European power plugs (the coffee maker has an adaptor you can use)-big mosquito net that surrounds the entire bed with 1ft of extra space within the net-nice color flooring-new bath towelsOutside of the rooms, the property is highly superior to a majority of the other places I’ve visited in Zanzibar. The development is very nice, the layout works well, they have beautiful walkways with trees above your head for shade, tons of little “sections” where you can choose to hang out (such as a section with a hanging pool bed, or a trampoline section, or a quite section nestled outside the paths etc). Their pool is 7 feet deep (2.2m) and VERY nice. They also have a shade covering on one side of the pool in case you get hot.The best part about the property IMO is the restaurant and food. The breakfast buffet is 5 stars. No other place I’ve visited (10+ nice places on Zanzibar so far on this trip) has such variety of amazing food. They also have live entertainment once or twice a week. They had a choir come in for the holiday. A++ for restaurant and food. You won’t find a better level of intricate attention to detail and a dinner course that looks like a 5 star restaurant for the price of only $15-25/person.All in all, the rooms were bad and developed cheaply for the price I paid (holiday prices). But the property made up for it with an amazing property and restaurant that brought a 5 star level of service. The manager is also European, of high class and service, and is understanding and accommodating towards a western perspective. I’d recommend to stay here.

This is a good proper hotel. Rooms are spacious, clean and with all comforts. Staff was very correct. There is a wide offer of food at the restaurant, which almost makes up for its sometimes mediocre quality compared to other resorts and local restaurants (or perhaps we were expecting better after reading the comments online?). I would say, focus on quality rather than quantity and variety. Something very positive was that breakfast started early, at 7 am, so it doesnt break your morning.Life at the resort feels completely separate to the beach due to its unfortunate design/structure. Also, to us and other guests it became hard to relax at the pool as often children and their parents were being noisy (not the hotels fault, but something to bear in mind when choosing where to stay). We felt its missing the typical Zanzibari intimate feeling other resorts in the island have. Its just lacking a certain warmth. We misinterpreted this when we decided to book. Not the right place for us but thats up to each ones personal preferences. We still had quite a good time. Finally, I would say that given that Matemwe beach has a lot of rubbish, the resort (and resorts in general) should take actions to clean the beach, perhaps in collaboration with the local community; after all its the big resorts who are benefitting from their locations at the beach. On a highly positive note, water refills are provided so you dont need to buy plastic bottles every time.

We have just returned from a wonderful 10 day family holiday at the Zanzibar Queen Hotel.I read many reviews before booking and thought Id share our experience and try and give some information on the things that I was unsure about before leaving. This is a lot of text, but I want to give fair and complete information.I can confirm that the location is indeed quite remote and a fair journey from the few activities on the island. You dont need to worry about this too much though. The hotel offers guided tours to see all the local activities and they mostly take about an hour in the car to get to and the driver will act as a guide. The hotel is located right on the beach and directly next door to the PADI scuba diving centreThe restaurant is expensive if you have a 3 course meal and you can easily spend over 25 dollars a meal if you dont watch your spending. This is the safe option, if you are worried about tummy problems, but we did venture out into the local restaurants on a few occasions and there you can eat well for half the price.Swimming at the beach is not really feasible. We managed it twice in 10 days. You have to find exactly the right tide and wind conditions and then you need to keep shoes on (provided at the hotel) to protect you from stepping on something that might hurt (sea urchins). I read one review complaining about seaweed on the beach. It is true that there is lots, but the hotel clears it after every high tide, and it is not actually ugly. When you step out the hotel onto the beach you will immediately be greeted by the beach boys. This is a fairly organised group of guys who mostly come over from the mainland during the tourist season to earn money selling things to the tourists. They are very friendly and always trying to sell. We did find this a bit too much on occasions, but if you are polite then so are they.Coming back to the hotel - The road from the main road to the hotel (100m or so) is terrible! So expect an adventure on arrival. The rooms are spotless. They are cleaned at least twice a day and more if needed. They have mosquito nets around the bed and at the windows. They also spray for mosquitos and we didnt ever find a single one on the room. There were a few outside in the hotel, but none of us were bitten. The tap water is not drinkable - this was a concern to us, but it should not have been at all. The hotel provides unlimited free drinking water and allows you to refill bottles as you wish from their large dispensers. They re-fill water bottles used at the table. We often just drank water with the meals and this was fine. The garden is beautiful and maintained constantly. The pool is also very well maintained and cleaned every morning.Breakfast is a buffet and caters for all tastes. Other meals are either al la carte, or a buffet. This varies and is linked to whether or not they have evening entertainment. We often avoided the dinner on these nights as it was too expensive for us (around 25$ per person). The hotel oganisises various activities on most days, including Yoga in a unbeatable setting, and these are included in the price. There is a good bar that serves a variety of cocktails and you can just put everything onto your billThe rooms are air-conditioned and it works well. There is no TV - but there is good internet that works well everywhere - even on the beach. It is obvious they have invested in this and it makes a lot of difference. The hotel has a volley ball court, trampoline, board games, darts, boul, badminton and the kids all play football on the beach every evening. The pool is about 20m wide and O.K. for swimming, but mostly intended for just chilling. The sun is intense. Bring loads of sun cream and put it on from 8am. We saw many other pale skinned Europeans ruin their short break by burning themselves terribly by just not putting on enough cream. The staff are extemely attentive. Helpful and willing to please. Nothing is too much trouble and they always smile and laugh. In summary - you will not find a better hotel.

I dont even know where to start. The location is a dream, the amenities are 5*.The food... omg the food;Ive been to a lot of resorts, usually rhe menu features eye-catching items, but they generally taste average. But here at the zanzibar queen restaurant the food has been insane.Best restaurant ive visited in years. The bar has an awesome variety of perfectly mixed Longdrinks and cocktails and the staff is super friendly.Beach is clean, the sand is perfect and nobody on the beach will attempt to sell you trips, like its usualöy common. The manager Dominika is super nice, shows the guests around the place personally and is a fun person. She organizes nice events during the dinners, such as authentic Massai dances or even salsa.Definetly not the last time ive been here.

Staff is welcoming and very friendly. We were greeted with welcome drinks. The room is very confortable, soundproofing is excellent compared to other hotels on the island, bed is comfortable.Swimming pool is lovey with two floating chairs available, we really appreciated that. There is a lot of plantation within the resort and the atmosphere is very relaxing. However, we stayed there during the covid-19 pandemic and at the time there were only 12 customers staying in the hotel. With full occupancy it might be very difficult to find peace there as there were about 12-14 sun chairs available ....The main reason I put three stars it the value for money, we paid 80 usd per night for an ocean view room with breakfast, on which you have to add lunch and dinner because there is very few other options available around the resort. Price for food is crazy, everything is quoted in $ and the minimum you pay for a main is 15$ and for the dinner there is only a 25$ menu available so you can easily end up spending an extra 40$ per person per day on the top of the room price.Furthermore, the location is not so good, nothing much to do expect for Memba island. But to be fair, staff was very attentive and breakfast was very generous and good.So the food is very good, though expensive.Service is excellent. So generally speaking everything is good expect for the value for money and the size of facilities compared to the capacity of the hotel.

I have traveled all around the world for more than 30 years, stayed in 7 stars hotels, and never gave 10 to any establishment, close, but never 10.First, value for money; I dont think you will find a place to stay in Zanzibar, as good as the queen hotel, even in higher price range. Ok, I could say that a gym would have been a bonus (i was here on my own), but this is a lovers retreat and Im doubtful about their need of a gym. Then the service; all the staff was amazing, and i would like to take this opportunity to thank, (sorry about the spelling), Martha, Abdul, George, Watson, Deo, Mariam, Vero, Yousouf, and all the others. You really did a fantastic job and making my stay super special, I felt that I was staying with friends.Thirdly; the food was amazing, breakfast, lunch and dinner, didnt have a single average meal, always excellent and so accommodating, plus the best lobster I ever had, big thanks to Chef Deo and his team. Finally the hotel; beautiful place, gardens, & beach, large pool, very cosy and intimate (the hotel must have less than 40 rooms), my room was very spacious (suite double ocean view) with beautiful sea view and balcony, spotless clean, with turn down service every evening. So for all of you honeymooners and loving couples, looking for a place to nest for a week or 2, dont look any further, i guaranty, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely hotel with a nice pool and a beautiful beach. Meals at the hotel restaurant were pretty good, with a large variety. Scuba diving in the area was very good. The location is very remote. Outside of the resort is a very small village; there is no attractions or amenities beyond the resorts on the beach. Rooms have everything you need, including a refrigerator and a safe for you belongings, which you should use.

Queen Zanzibar hotelWe were very satisfied with our stay at Zanzibar Queen. The room was clean and the service was excellent. We would love to come back one day. The hotel is like a paradise island and makes a great atmosphere for relaxation. We did a massage one of the days, this was an awesome cabin with crazy views. 45 $ i would love to spend again.-> the beach was nice, but local sellers where very pushy. This made us choose the pool for the last 3 days. We also think that the hotel should take more responsibility for local roads to the hotel.

This is a beautiful hotel - the airport pick up was great, you can play badminton, volley ball and boulle within the resort, the sea outside is great (lots of urchins but they provide sea shoes!). The locals based right outside the hotel offer very good value trips (snorkelling, swimming with dolphins, spice farms, stone town & prison island + massages). The rooms are just what you need, would recommend asking for a second floor room so you get a sea view. The only disappointment was the food, quite poor quality. Service was ok but not at all comparable to the sister hotel, Zanzi Resort which was fantastic in every way!

One of the best hotel experiences you can get in Zanzibar. Amazing staff keeps this place running smoothly by fulfilling all your wishes with a smile on their face. The dinner is beautifully arranged and has gourmet style. Also worth mentioning is the excellent dive center next doors with a motivated crew that even made our Christmas dive somewhat special. We even prolonged our stay for an additional day to relax at the pool and properly say goodbye to the dive center nextdoors. Nobody will ever ask you for a tip here. The Zanzibar queen was great. First, its gorgeous and the attention to detail and asthetics was impressive. Second, the food here, every single thing we got from breakfast to lunch, was delicious. I mean best weve ever had delicious. Three breakfast buffet every morning, especially the crepes with Nutella, was awesome. The service folks were kind and helpful and the cleaning staff were on top of it every day, opening and closing or mosquito nets as well as doing laundry. Last, its a bit far from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town which could either be seen as a drawback or advantage depending on what youre looking for. All in all, we were both very happy with our decision to stay here. You probably wont be disappointed either.

On the day of my girlfriends birthday, they prepared a beautiful cake with her name on it and made her really happy. My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon here after an 8-day safari on the mainland. First, we were elated to see that beautiful Indian Ocean upon arrival (especially after a week in the African bush)! I will begin by saying that the staff was welcoming, friendly, and accommodating, and they even pleasantly surprised us with an upgrade from a regular room to their Honeymoon Villa (which was pretty awesome of them - thanks again)! Overall, the staff deserves 5-stars without a doubt, they were all great and made sure that our honeymoon was extra special! Now, Im sure youre asking why I rated this place 4-stars then... well, mostly because Google wont allow me to give it 4.5-stars. So with that said, their beach was great (despite a consistent swarming of locals upon beachdwellers just looking for some sun and surf). But hey, we are in their country, and theyre just looking to make a buck where they can so I cant say that is a major complaint on my end, just something to keep in-mind should that be a burden to you. Frankly though, I found a smile, friendly convo, and Tanzanian handshake often brought the sales pitch to an amiable end (but again, I always encourage people to keep in-mind the locals and their circumstance, and to remember that you are a visitor in their land, regardless of how much you paid - a sentiment that I find often goes amiss with the resort crowd). That said, the pool was always clean and a fun scene, and there were plenty of secluded spots to hide from the other guests to enjoy a honeymoon kiss or two (or three). The food and drinks were good enough, but not great, and that factored into my overall rating, but thats not a major criticism on my end; its Zanzibar, and what matters most is they try, and try very hard (something anyone who is reasonable can appreciate).Long story short, the staff deserves much love and appreciation, the resort and its grounds are beautiful and well manicured, the beach is pretty (and relatively clean - though my wife and I did spend at least an hour each morning picking up plastic; just something we have always done from Costa Rica to Zanzibar); our poor oceans and planet need the love too! Ultimately, I would not hesitate to recommend this place for some Indian Ocean fun so check it out if youre making plans to visit Spice Island!

Absolutely gorgeous property. Its very new (a little over a year old) and stunning. It takes a minute to get to it from Zanzibar airport and many of the roads are currently being improved, but once you do youll be impressed. They are very welcoming upon your arrival including a tour of both the properly and your room. They explain all of the amenities and free activities that you can partake in (including yoga classes, beach volleyball, Tuesday night bbq, etc) as well as the many available for extra $ (Stone Town tours, ATV riding, snorkeling, etc.)We were here for our honeymoon and would definitely recommend their honeymoon package. It includes stuff like included airport transfers, a bottle of sparking wine when you arrive, snorkeling trip, private romantic dinner (with some amazing seafood) and my personal favorite: a couples massage right on the beach. Theres NOTHING more soothing than getting a massage while listening to the ocean. Wow!Id also recommend opting for the all-inclusive package so that you dont have to worry about it while youre there and can have as many mojitos by the pool that you want. My last two pieces of advice would be to do both the snorkeling and ATV trips. Snorkeling is incredibly cool because they take you out by a private island and you get to spend half a day learning about the ocean and marine life while also eating fruit and samosas on the boat. The ATV trip was last minute because we had some time to kill before our late flight but it ended up being really cool. You ride around the island getting to see great parts of it not on a resort or beach and to top it off they usual stop by a couple of the small villages where you get to meet the young children and can pass out small gifts and treats to them if youd like. A great and unexpected end to an already amazing adventure.
