My experience at Matemwe Baharini Villas has been traumatic. Within an hour of arriving, all the money I brought for the holiday (except coincidentally, the money I needed to pay for the room), got stolen. My friends’ money also got stolen from their rooms, which were all double locked.When we presented the problem to Eduard, the manager, he accused us of lying. Said what we were saying was “bullshi*t” and even began aggressively screaming and threatening that we were “on his property” so there was nothing we could do to get our money back.But this isn’t the half of it. As soon as we left Baharini to stay in a different hotel as we did not feel safe, Eduard illegally sub-rented the rooms we had paid for to other guests without telling us.Needless to say, he did not give any of the stolen $1,200 back. This place is a scam. Please do yourself a favour and avoid at all costs. Apart from the theft, there are no security cameras, the rooms are filthy and the bathrooms revolting. I instead recommend staying at Zanzibar Queen Hotel just down the road.

If you want to feel like in paradise, then choose to go here !The location is wonderful, good services and nice, nice staff and wifi.

I would give this ‘hotel’ zero stars if it was possible. The rooms firstly look nothing like they do in the pictures and around two hours after our arrival we had money stolen from our rooms. When we confronted the manager about this he was very defensive and went as far to swear and shout at us. After the first day we did not feel safe here and decided to leave to another hotel.

We struggled to find the place as there is another google maps listing with the same name a couple of kilometres south of the actual resort. Also there is no sign when you arrive at the gate - this seems to be the norm in Zanzibar. Perhaps most people arrive via transfer and not in their own vehicle.We then struggled to find someone who could check us in.However, once checked in (by very welcoming staff), we were shown to a spacious room near the pool.The electricity was off but came on about an hour later. At which point the water stopped working but also came on a few hours later.The restaurant menu didn’t appeal to us, so I cannot comment on the food. Breakfast was fine. Fruit and scrambled eggs.We met the charming new owner, who had only taken the hotel over 2 weeks prior. I am sure he will turn this resort around in no time.For location and beauty, I highly recommend this hotel. Right on the beach for swimming and kite surfing. The pool is an alternate to anyone not keen on the ocean.

Horrible place to stay, it looks nothing like the pictures and disgustingly unclean. The manager Edward is extremely rude, I do not know how he thinks he can speak to customers like that. I hope no one has to go through our experience.

Its a very old place.. the staff are good and friendly but service was poor because its understaffed. Only 1 waiter working day and night. The whole place had only 5 staffs. Not a good place for holiday. The pics of the villa they send u are completely different from the actual ones.

For the next reasons never try this tirebble place..plz check trip advisor..1.dead animal on shower water cause they keep tanks open.2.ur money will be stolen EVEN FROM SAFE, ah by way it can be ur clothes too.3.if u use credit card keep eye on what they do.4.swimming pool water never change and full of chemistry.5.see after having meals there how will be ur stomac, plz have a look on kitchen how is it dirty.6.local people they walk inside and disturb tourist but they never stop them.7.they will say no beer buy actually they have, if u insist they will bring u.8.they try offer so expensive trips and they stop beach boys to try offer u cheaper trips....Plz think twice..

Its really tranquil with sea views from every room. Great food too. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Good place for families and relaxation

Very nice staff, beautiful area, in matemwe you will get to know the real zansibar. The hotel is african standart, so dont expect everything to be perfect, but we still loved it❤

Relax in the comfort of airconned rooms, great service and white sandy beaches. Rent a bicycle and head 2kms north along the beach for the best swimspot.

A beautiful place, not too much tourist finally a little but not on the beaches and local restaurants that are really cheap and very good.For the hotel, the facilities should be a little renovated.But for the price its not bad for the place of the island ..On the other hand no music, at the bar has a bottle of Campari and beers its the desert.The very average breakfast.And as I said local restaurants are better.The boss is the only one who does not say hello otherwise the employees at the top like all Tanzania. Please be careful about this place and avoid it !!! The problems started from the very beginning. It took us over half an hour to find this place after reaching Matemwe, with a taxi driver who made several calls. Even the locals could not point to him. Upon arrival, it turned out that Baharini did not exist. We were taken to the front desk of Mambo Beach Resort and put in a different room than we had booked through booking.com. Enigmatic explanations of a pseudo manager named Christofer that his boss hired the entire resort, that the problems are due to the landowner still issuing reservations, but in fact it turned out that the pseudo manager does not pay the landowner for the lease. Czech film ... no one could name Baharinis manager🙈 Obviously Christopher managed the money in advance for the entire stay ... after two days we were ordered to change our room, and at the same time we were informed from booking.com that our booking had been canceled by the resort ( Reason: We didnt show up at the resort, the real reason, in our opinion, is not paying commission or taxes and blocking the possibility of giving opinions to unsatisfied customers on booking.com). The entire staff looks suspicious to say the least! We were left on the ice and the responsibility was more and more blurred ... Luckily we never pay in advance and we escaped as soon as we found the right place for our vacation. The only advantage is the garden, which is gradually destroyed: painting beautiful shells and palm trees with oil paints, hanging up painted car tires we did not like !!!!Our adventure with Matemwe Baharini Villas ended with the police witnessing an attempted fraud and extortion of money by a pseudo manager named Christofer from a couple of tourists who, unfortunately, also ended up in this unfortunate place.

Money was stolen from us during our stay!Of course the hotel denies claiming that an investigation has been opened without being able to prove that this is the case.In addition, we took part in 2 tours organized by the hotel, including a relatively expensive basic one. Once arrived there ahh I forgot to tell you, you have to pay the entrance and hop $ 12 more per person.I will not recommend this hotel to anyone at all. They only get after your money and if you are unfortunate enough not to have your meals at their place, you will pay the price one way or another!

We cannot recommend the hotel, there are two hotels. The Mambo Hotel is the main hotel. The manager Christopher only sees money and tries to rip off the tourists. We didnt do what he wanted. He then canceled our room and didnt want to give our money back. Unfortunately we had to go to the police to get our money back.

120 euros were stolen from us during our stay and during an excursion booked within the hotel.Whats more, at the base price of 50 euros for the excursion (jozani forest + spice farm) we had to add 12 dollars per person once at the entrance to the jozani forest, during our questions the guide told us that he forgot to tell us.Besides being thieves these people are crooks.Complex to escape there are better and more secure next door.

Excellent food (seafood, fish, exotic fruits). It is cleaned daily, the bedding is changed every two days. The pool helps when you cant swim in the ocean. The trips are a dream, I recommend them all.

Potentially very good hotel but with many things to improve.First of all, alcohol is not sold in the bar and restaurant for religious reasons, not even a small beer, which is not indicated in any description and is only informed once seated in the restaurant. Honestly, we found him disrespectful and fair towards guests. Although the waiters and cooks are very kind and helpful, they speak little English and the restaurant is a bit boring, because there is no space for after dinner and there is no music. In short, the atmosphere is subdued.The garden is very nice and well-kept with palm trees, hammocks and plants. The staff overall is nice. My bungalow (standard room) was clean, spacious and nice enough. However, we found the shower broken which was partially fixed to us after 1 day and definitely after 3 days. Also once fixed we didnt have hot water for 3 evenings due to other breakdowns. There is no wardrobe but a rod with 4 hangers and also in the bathroom, for example, there is no toothbrush holder.I must say that in case of need, the staff helped us in all ways, for example by calling a doctor who served us.We found no safe, no kettle, no microwave, no fridge, as it is written in the room services. Even the SPA indicated in the services of the structure is not actually there. The internet connection is really very poor, we couldnt make video calls. This structure has a lot of potential, but for international guests it absolutely needs improvement. Ultimately, I dont feel like recommending it.

There are acceptable things in a hotel at $ 30. Not in a hotel at 80 USD. No maintenance, the place is in decay. The restaurant is deserted, and for good reason. Luckily we were only staying two nights (and if we had not been asked to pay on arrival, we would have canceled the 2nd night!): If I had booked all our holidays here, I think I would have made a depression. We fell in love with this place. Very friendly people and personal. We were even invited to the village and allowed to attend school. Always my pleasure! Thanks for the great time!
