I travel to Dar Es Salam very frequently for business. Protea Hotel at Oyster Bay is my top choice when it comes to stay.This place is aptly located near to commerical office area (20 minutes drive) and at the same time very near to the beach (10 minutes drive).The rooms are very spacious, comfortable & equipped for short as well as long stays. The facility has swimming pool & health center as well, though I didnt use any of them during my stay.The staff at the reception is very supportive and the check-in/check-out are super smooth.The breakfast buffet has a lot of variety and the chef and F&B team helped me to get my other meals customized to my choice, which is very helpful for business travellers looking to have light and not very indulgent meals.I would recommend both leisure & business travellers to try out this hotel in upcoming trips.Best,Ritish Nagpal

Good location, neat rooms, air conditioners in good condition, they hardly ever cleaned, the breakfasts are the same type, the service is normal, the staff is very friendly and always ready to help.

It’s not worth the price.The shower place is not comfortable.The room is not clean.The breakfast is horrible.Not deserve $150 for two person’s one night accommodation.

This hotel is on a good location, easy to get from main traffic routes in Dar. it offers suit based rooms so it is good for people looking to stay for longer time. inside beach area is nice. beware of crows stealing your food at breakfast and ask for a room on the opposite side of church/evant center since it gets very loud. staff is very friendly.

Honestly it looks nothing like the pictures and grossly over priced. The rooms are outdated, the towels old, the pool is dirty etc. The breakfast was the only good thing. The staff were nice though they kept opening the door without knocking first.

It is a beautiful and calm environment close to St Peters Church. Also ideal for retreats and meetings.

The loft room are really spacious. The double height makes for a great experience.Their breakfast has all those essential things to please a decent breakfast spread.

Excellent suite-type room- kitchenette and lounge was a nice surprise as was not expecting it to be the size that it was. Friendly and helpful staff. Front desk need a bit of training on Bonvoy though- check in clerk had no idea how to insert my Bonvoy number into the system and although Id booked online it wasnt on the reservation printout or invoice they gave me. Also had no idea / didnt seem to care about the Titanium membership level and didnt offer the welcome gift. Other than that no issues with the actual stay.

Was very disappointed in the food. It is not the cheapest hotel and I have visited here many times. This time around, food seemed to lack any quality. Hopefully they pick it up a notch for what they charge. Still a good spot, stable Wi-Fi and very pleasant environment

An absolute gem of a hotel. Service excellence from the hotel manager down. You are greeted by one of the friendliest receptionists and everyone of the staff members are unrivaled in their willingness to provide you with a memorable stay.

My stay was as comfortable as could be in the Protea Hotel. It is dated and needs some new attention.

Great experience at this hotel. It was great from checking in to my departure. Hotel staff were courteous and helpful at every step of the way. I was impressed at the breakfast buffet which offered variety to suit anyone’s taste. The laundry experience was smooth and I received my clothes the same day. The hotel offers great value to any visitors to Dar. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Cute place to be at very beautiful view and everything seems pretty close and now they opened up a burger place close by connected to the main road near best bites the new restaurant is opened. The hotel lies just on the road. I love the area this hotel is situated in. Rooms are pretty amazing you have all facilities in room. Worth a 5 star

Great hotel at an incredible location. Spacious and very clean rooms. The staff is very professional and friendly. Very warm welcome we recieved.The food could do with a little more variety, but, overall experience was out of this world.

Excellent place for families, couples or single travel, if you want to unwind and we were treated to great reception and service. Unfortunately we stayed for a night. It is the most relaxing and serene place where my kids could safely roam around the area and the beach was eventfull. Its a definite, must do again.

Coming here from the airport, we almost got robbed at an intersection when someone ran over to our taxi and through the open window tried to grab my husband’s iPhone out of his hands. So be careful always lock your doors and close your windows. Ok the neighborhood scared me a bit before I even checked in. They were nice to upgrade our room due to our platinum Marriott status. The rooms were big, but the shelves were quite dusty and the rooms were full of mosquitoes. The beds didn’t have mosquito nets over, so I had to do a round of mosquito swatting before bedtime. Still my son woke up w 11 bites. I just hope he wouldn’t get malaria. The shower didn’t even have hot water!!! The breakfast was miserable. We hardly ate much before rushing out to catch our domestic flight the next morning. It took over 40 mins to get here late eve w no traffic. Would I recommend this place? No. It is totally not Marriott standard.

My husband and I stayed here for a night after busing in from Moshi. I had a free night from Marriott, and we’d also read about the place in Lonely Planet. It’s off of a busy road, but a few streets over are the large fancy lots and embassies. There’s a decent amount of stuff within walking distance (restaurants, grocery stores), and the rooms are set up great for longer stays with a kitchen. The water pressure was a bit funky at first, but ended up being just fine. Very kind staff and a lovely pool in the courtyard. While I found the Lonely Planet description a bit harsh, it definitely could be a hotel anywhere in the world - not uniquely Tanzanian. For what we needed after a 12 hour bus with no AC, it was perfect.

The rooms are average. The bed and mattress gave us back aches.Even the restaurant is a hit or a miss when it comes to breakfast. Very inconsistent in service. You never know what would be missing each day. One day its the glasses for water, another day its the honey, so and and so forth.

The property is well maintained.

Excellent customer service. The rooms are well designed and self contained. Gym available for free to residents. There are also bicycles available to ride around the neighborhood.

This hotel had the nicest manager and was so accomadating to our group. Great staff and the restraunt is awesome. Clean beds a couple water issues but the staff fixed them pronto even at 330 am after a late check in! This place is hakuna mattata

We love this for family visits. The apartments are affordable and clean with good facilities. The area is pretty accessible too, plus good breakfast.

Doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles, but it is a pretty good hotel including clean, although dated, rooms and decent food. Staff is friendly.

Located close to the city and the beach.It is quiet here and feels like you are at home even though you are away from home.The meals and services were great.Having a swimming pool is a bonus with the heat in Dar es salaam.

The place is beautiful. The rooms are nice and cozy. The food is great , and the staff are ok, only thing is remember to learn two mainly used words, Karibu and Asante.

Amazingly friendly staff. I needed a place to stay just for few hours during the day with all my luggage I couldnt just sit in any restaurant, so I asked at Protea Hotel. They welcomed me friendly and I could sit at the restaurant there. The breakfast buffet had a high variety and tables with power supply for my laptop .Thanks!

Horrible service, rooms and staff. The room service and reception lines are not manned and/or picked. The apartments are horribly arranged with little thought to utility and one AC unit to cool a two floor apartment. After cooking in the heat and with no repairs, I had to move my bed, by myself, under the only AC unit to cool me down. I would not recommend it to anyone. If I could give a 0star, I would.

Hotel is good. Most of the staff are welcoming and friendly. However, one staff of Indian origin was not willing to assist us when we inquired about places to visit around here. He proceeded to tell us to look on the literature at the reception, while he went ahead to explain various places of interest to a couple of European origin. We felt discriminated despite having booked for 6 nights.

Walking distance to FAO office. Small but good pool. Bedroom and living area separate. Has a kitchenette

Nothing to complain about here - all good. I would recommend staying here, especially if you are on business. Not sure I would stay here for a holiday though.

I loved my stay at Protea Oysterbay! It was peaceful and the food was amazing! The staff were very nice and professional. I will bring my family with me for my next visit! They have a pool and a beautiful outdoor seating area. The hotel is right off of the main road so you can peruse the roadside stands. They were making wooden tables on the main road while I was there. Its about 30 minutes from the airport but worth the ride! They provide an airport pick up and drop off service for an additional fee. When you book just give them your flight info. I wish I had stayed longer. Thank you everyone at Protea Oysterbay!
