We booked the hotel through booking.com. For some reason, the system showed that the reservation was made for 1 person instead of 2. (which we didn’t notice before arriving at the hotel). When we checked in, we were told that we would have to pay $ 500 per day plus for one more person. It was like $2500 for us. The price on booking, on the day of arrival, showed us the same price for 2 that we paid for 1 person. For 3 hours we were held at the reception, having phoned several times with booking, they agreed with us and contacted the hotel, asked them to change the number of guests and confirming that we should not pay anything plus. After, we had all the time with the Reception Desk Man - Simone. Who began to bargain with us as in a bazaar and not in a 5 star hotel and offer a new amount each time. In the end we had to pay +213$ per day. Simone clearly said to me - this is a business Madam ! So no, its was our vacation! The customer is always right! I work by myself in the customer service industry and never allow myself to talk like that and drive myself so arrogantly with my clients!!! Apparently the policy of this hotel is that the client is wrong and we do not value our clients. As a result, the hotel refused to cancel our booking and return the money to us (although booking sent them such a request), but they said no! Simone strained us for two days and didn’t let us rest after everything, even after when my husband agreed with his offer… Because he wanted our credit card. We also wrote to the hotel, where we asked to come to a common decision, but the answer was that if we don’t like their resort, we can leave it. I just now read a review of a client of this hotel (that hotel had also demanded extra money from her booking through booking.com) Strange coincidence!The good thing about this hotel is the good Thai massage. Beautiful villas and food. Some drinks (even cappuccino come with extra charge).

Baraza is the perfect upscale spa destination in Zanzibar. Fantastic accommodations, food and service, all with an Arabian flair. Simone, the manager greeted us with a warm and friendly welcome and everyone on his team followed his lead. The beach was the perfect spot for all the activities they offer as well as a place to e place the low tide pools filled with starfish and other creatures. We especially liked the private beach cabana and the quiet time to explore this eco friendly property. Though family friendly, it is a couples paradise too. Well be returning with friends soon.

We stayed in one of their wonderful villas for our honeymoon, it was amazing. The room is perfectly clean, all the hotel is full of details that make you feel luxury. We spent a romantic honeymoon. Thank you to all the team who made it possibile, especially to the Operation Manager Simone who took care of us. We will be back for our anniversary

My wife and I are big wine & dine hedonists and I have to admit that for a long time no one has spoiled us as much as Baraza’s staff. Big and biggest compliments to the chefs for the excellent cuisine and the staff for the exceptional professional service. Everything was flawless and we can’t wait to get back. Bravo!

We spent 7 wonderful days in this private resort and we wished it was longer. The villas are spacious, food excellent, spa treatments exquisite, staff outstanding and perfect weather conditions. We managed trying watersports activities and it was a splendid experience , we are looking forward to making arrangements on booking Zanzibar sometime next year , We have to come back to this lovely resort. Beautifull Place , tranquill...good food...,however AT low Tide ohne cannot swim...charming staff...love it

The villa and the service are def 5 stars. The villas are spacious and beautifully furnished and the rest of the hotel is also very beautiful. The villas are very quiet. The staff is wonderful. The food was at times very nice but other times not so nice. I never liked their fish paste, cold dishes and beef. I had diarrhea the last day of my stay. The beach is a disappointment if you like soft sand, snorkeling and sunsets. The hotel is on the east coast so sadly no sunsets. The sand is hard and people race on the beach with motor bikes. There is also a bit of pedestrian traffic and loitering but there are 2 security guards on duty at the beach area. The sea is murky with a lot of sea weed. Its a very good spot for kite-surfing and the instructor is super talented. The policy of kids under 12 y come free results in lots of small kids crowding the pool and screaming the whole day. Try and avoid raining season coz you might end up cancelling excursions because of the rain.

Amazing experience! Food quality in this all inclusive resort is unbeatable, all our meals were excellent. The staff is always very attentive and goes long ways so to ensure you are happy at all times. Managers do a great job! Heaven in earth...

The reservations department was hostile and disagreeable about a reservation that I had booked on booking.com. After I had made the reservation and confirm Ed the reservation, I emailed the hotel to ask a few questions. The reservationist told me that the rate I had received which was over $500 a night was based on a technical error and that they would need to charge me an additional $364 per night. I had to make a phone call to Africa and spent 30 minutes on the phone being berated by the reservationist who has not willing to accommodate a reservation that I had booked and confirmed. Never have I been treated so inconsiderately by a so called 5 star resort.

Magical place.... The staff were the only slightly less than enthusiastic but they still did what was expected of them. I probably feel this way since I am comparing to Breezes their next door neighbor who have much warmer staff. Ask for the ocean view villas for the best overall experience...

Whilst in Tanzania we’d heard Baraza called ‘the best hotel in Zanzibar’ so our expectations were high on arrival. Thankfully they were met, and exceeded, it really is a classy hotel that exactly matched our requirements - it’s ‘exclusive’ (I don’t like that word) yet unpretentious, the staff are engaging and super helpful yet never overbearing and the number of guests was just perfect for a relaxed environment (the opposite of some resorts - less really is more). The entire setting evoked an elegant Arabian charm - you know you’re in Zanzibar. A lot of effort has gone on behind the scenes to make everything feel natural and effortless, which is exactly how it should be. It goes without saying that the food and drink was superb and we did our best to consume as much as possible as we finished off our honeymoon in style! We had one small issue during our stay but as expected this was sorted with supreme professionalism and the minimum of fuss by the team at Baraza. Understated, classy, professional, seemingly effortless, comforting - Baraza truly is the Queen Elizabeth II of hotels.

Absolutely, totally love it here. Spent part of our honeymoon here and it was AMAZING. The staff are so helpful and friendly, the meals are deliciousssss. The beach is gorgeous day or night and they have bicycles to ride along the beach!

Baraza is beautiful BUT they need to work on their Villa hosts and customer service very badly. On our honeymoon our host walked in to our private couples spa day and tried to coordinate tour details with us while we were naked in the bath. To say that it was inappropriate is the understatement of the century. No manager addressed is after the fact and we were forced to confront the woman even after we expressed our discomfort with the situation. They also did not reassign us to another host which made the remainder of the stay uncomfortable as well.*** Addressing the reply for other customers to be aware - the spa manager did offer an additional spa treatment which we appreciated and accepted however the manager of the hotel (who we met with one time at the start of our stay) never followed up and we did mention this atrocious incident in our review and also had our agent follow up to ensure Barazas overall management was informed so something similar did not happen again. Barazas management has ignored the requests from our agent to discuss the matter. I was surprised at the incident and am more surprised at the egregious response and falsities reported here. I personally will no longer consider booking with any Zanzibar Resort ever again.

We enjoyed a lot the diversity of different activities from watersports, diving center and dinner live music. Actually everything was just perfect, we will come back next year!

Great hotel, great service, beautiful nature. Dead, cheap or completely non-working air conditioners, for that kind of money it is not forgivable for a hotel. Completely destroyed equipment in the gym. From time to time, something came to an end at the hotel from food, you come to order - the answer is not available. Again, for that kind of money, this is not an excusable thing. Overall good, but not 5 stars or even 4.

Unique resort with excellent service and outstanding food. One of the top addresses on SANSIBAR, which I can only recommend without reservation! Also, the villas (all room types) are just fantastic and very large. The complex is completely built in an Arab-Sultanese style and has a breathtaking atmosphere especially in the evening. There is breakfast, lunch, then even an extra tea time and dinner. Nobody will starve. Also, a food selection on request like to be directly to the beach (which is also drinks and cocktails). There is also a tennis court, a gym and a spa, which is equipped with a wonderful pool. All in all, 100 points
