Perfect territory, rooms, pool, nature. Awesome design of each and every hotels corner. The sophisticated odour of shampoo is still in my mind... Staff is trying to look friendly and helpful but there is pressing of over attention and some kind of coldness in attitude.

We came here as strangers and went back with loads of good memories and with a feeling that this place feels like a family. All the staff members were just amazing. They were courteous and would make you feel like home. They had made my anniversary make so much special, cant thank enough. The rooms are clean, food is super tasty and surroundings are just spectacular. A place totally cut off from the world . This is a perfect place to chill.The free tea and cookies is a add on and the pool is just perfect for kids and adults.Must try the yellow Mamba from the cocktail list.I will be visiting this place again for sure.RegardsVishal

The Pongwe Bay Resort is exactly the place we were looking for in Zanzibar.We understood this would have been a great experience a couple of minutes after we checked in, at about 10pm. The manager proactively asked us if we had already had dinner - we hadnt - and offered to bring us something to the room. The something was a great meal, like many we had in the following days. Congrats to the chef!We were upgraded to a bungalow which was roomy, well kept with double sinks and a huge shower. The room and resorts architecture was impressive and everything looked almost new. The service was impeccable, always kind and attentive. We enjoyed a GREAT massage in the Spa and some great drinks (try the Pingwe mojito).Did I already say the food was great? We are very impressed by the choice and quality.All in all we couldnt have chosen better - its a small resort with everything we needed.Only a few notes for improvement:- we booked a day trip through the hotel to Nakupenda, a sand bank. The guide on our boat could barely speak English or Italian and didnt add any value- The beach was full of seaweed. No big deal - just walk a bit towards the Island on the left or on the right- It was also full of beach boys - not the hotel fault in any way, just know that they are all around Zanzibar and theyre pretty insistent on selling you excursions and other stuff. Just learn to say hapana asante (no thanks) and prepare to say it multiple times

Pongwe Bay Resort exceeded our expectations in every way! The staff are so friendly and helpful with a why not, anything is possible motto. The room is beautiful and clean, and the view is absolutely amazing. Breakfast is what dreams are made of. Fresh pastries, fruit, bread and hot savory cuisine as well. All the food we sampled was delicious and we loved the big variety of drinks and cocktails at the bar.Tea time was a nice touch. An hour in the afternoon with free tea and cake/pastries. We enjoyed sampling the different kinds of teas. The swimming pool is nice and clean and the beach is beautiful. There are some free sports you can do from the hotel like volleyball and stand up paddle boarding. You can also book excursions from the hotel and their prices are much more reasonable than other resorts we visited. Their masseuses at the resort also really know what they are doing.Since this was the last resort of our trip, we just spent the entire time relaxing at the resort and enjoyed every second of it. We will definitely be back in the future!

Our whole stay in Pongwe Bay Resort was really good. The environment is beautiful - gorgeous garden, nice pool and authentic style, we enjoyed it a lot. Our bungalow was also pleasant, big enough and comfortable, proper in every way. Great variety in food, both in breakfast and lunch/dinner options and enough alternatives for trying local food and seafood as well. You can choose from amazing fruits and fruit juices each day, tropical coctails if you like. Theres a massage salon in the Resort which is worth trying. We walked barefoot in the whole place all week, it was so good!Id like to highlight the behaviour and humbleness of the staff: they were the kindest hotel staff Ive ever met, accessible for questions, helpful, also open and friendly.

I stayed at Pongwe Bay Resort after a successful Kilimanjaro climb! I chose to stay here because I did not want the hustle and bustle of Nungwi. It was PERFECT! My room was very large, extremely clean and quite comfortable. The entire staff at Pongwe Bay is absolutely the BEST!! I cannot say enough about how wonderful each and every one of them were - from the check-in staff, to the kitchen staff, the tour desk staff, housekeeping staff, and management - all excellent!My price included breakfast which was delicious and had different items to chose from everyday. The lunch and dinners were also fantastic! This was exactly what I was seeking - peace and relaxation, with great food, excellent drinks and a beautiful area. True, the water was far away due to low tide, but I ended up taking an excursion to Mnemba Island to snorkel and swim with dolphins.

Excellent resort, nice food, friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay tremendously.Only thing I would change is the silk duvet cover with white cotton duvet covers.

Beautiful place with excellent garden, swimming pool and wonderful room (Junior Suite with Seam view).Very helpful staff - especially the Manager.Pity that low tide forces to walk >1km to the ocean and kite-surfing is limited due to rocks in front of the hotel.Going out of the hotel for e.g. street-food is possible only by car, as the village is few km from the hotel.For chill-out or holidays only in 2 - it is a great place to be.

One of the best places to completely relax. All the staff are priceless and after 5 days, they felt like family. The manager Riccardo is A-plus and will make you want to stay in Zanzibar for the rest of your life, the bartenders Guideon & Zulpha make the best cocktails and fresh juices youll ever taste, Aston (Martin for friends) is your brother from another mother and Shabby is your go to guy for anything reception-related. · A magical place. You can see and feel that the owner puts her heart into making this place so wonderful. A lovely hotel. Wonderfully located. Not close to the beach but on the beach. Service at the highest level. Great breakfast, great meals. High quality, freshness. A place for a wonderful rest and relaxation. For the first time, I have heard that the hotel website encourages people to go barefoot. I felt like in paradise in this hotel. The footpaths in the hotel grounds are covered with sand. From leaving the cottage, you can go barefoot all the time. Amazing experience for todays times. For this absolutely wonderful crew. Amani you are a wonderful person. I hope that we will meet again one day. I dont want to highlight anyone, because both the waitresses, waiters, cleaning ladies, the reception and the Maasai were incredibly friendly, helpful and smiling. I regretted that we had to leave. I also booked a second property before going to Zanzibar. We were delighted with the swimming pool, silence, ocean, beaches, closeness to nature, and the smiles of people. We will definitely want to come back to Pongwe Bay Resort.

Today we went to the restaurant just for a beer. When we asked for the bill: the waiter ( Franki) raised the price three times.He tried to explain a new dollar rate(??), which is beyond my imagination. I felt deceptet! Its my first time in africa that I experience that. Regards Sven

A very nice place to be. Spend 5 nights here in two different rooms. All the rooms we had where of a good size, clean and beautiful design. The bathrooms are huge and all super cool. No ugly tiles, all made of painted and polished concrete. Beautiful garden, big and beautiful pool, Sweetwater. Restaurant has a good menue and all members of the staff are awesome, friendly, and always helpful and in good spirits. Only the breakfast could be a bit better, especially the coffee, which is only instant coffee, here I would have expected more from a hotel of this class and price.

Rooms are big and clean. The resort overall is nice if you want to rest and be far away from everything. We booked a room with a sea view and once we checked in they gave us room with the pool view. Fortunately they resolved the issue and gave us the room we booked ( this of course included a long wait).Location: It’s quite far from everything and there in nothing to do in Pongwe. We would not book it if we knew itFood: breakfast is included and it’s quite good: local fruits, freshly make cake every day.The service is extremely slow. We book the treatment at the spa for 10:30 and had to wait an hour.

A lovely relaxed and laid back resort with great service and a beautiful pool. A little more activities on site is required. No shops or restaurants nearby except a roadside stall. Taxis do occasionally pass and usually one waits hljust outside

This is a very nice resort, good accommodation and restaurant, clean spacious rooms. Be careful about the sea tides because when the sea is low one cannot swim in it, it goes quite far away.

Great service and sweet staff. Small details to make the stay memorable. The menu in the restaurant was good and the portions big. Pool area was clean and in the evening well lit up. Room was spacious and had two bathrooms and an outdoor shower in the privat backyard. Awesome surroundings!

Perfect place if you want to relax, very nice view, but sorry breakfast for this price is not acceptable! Practically no fruits, come on, in Zanzibar everywhere excellent fruit and cheap!

Wonderful 1st stop on a 14 day trip. The daily breakfast was an excellent option with plenty of choices. Staff were kind and helpful.

A nice resort. Sort of isolated. the beach is very shallow water, so at low tide, the water is very far away. the room was comfortable, the pool was nice, the food was good, and the service was friendly. The Masai dance show was spectacular!

I spent 3 amazing days in Pongwe Bay. Everything was perfect. The room, the staff, the food, the cocktails, the breakfast, the swimming pool, the seaview....Vicky is the best cocktail maker, come to taste her Passion Mojito.I really want to recommend this quiet place !! I think and i hope i will come back and i will recommend it for all my friends and family.

Very nice family, cosy resort outside of touristic oriented areas like Nungwi. You may be confused regarding the ocean (both tides will not allow you to swim easily) but it is Zanzibar and east coast. We enjoyed the place a lot and I would recommend it to people looking for peaceful part of Zanzibar.

Environment is beautiful, this resort is for people who desire a lot of attention, there is always at least 2-3 waiters standing around you. beach is too shallow and long, not suitable for swimming really, a lot of sea weeds washed up on shore, that being said the establishment is professional, lunch or dinner for 25 USD, beer 5 USD, views of huts and swimming pool are amazing

Went to Pongwe Bay Resort for a lazy Sunday afternoon poolside. Its a small resort. Beautiful gardens and a lovely pool. It has a Jacuzzi on one side too!We had sodas and you can see the beach from the pool.The rooms are arranged all around the pool area. There is a big open plan sitting/ games/ dining area.Clean and pretty.

This is very nice beach, there is wonderful hotes and also there is small island near it, this is beautiful place to visit for tourists

If you are looking for a quiet cozy beautiful get away, then this is for you. Clean rooms but stingy on supplies and toiletries. Room rates are not good for returning residents.The manager is not visible or never around. I asked to speak to him for 3 days and they kept telling me hes not around and they do not know his name. *Dodgy.Be careful of the city tax scam. Some hotels I paid $1 (mnarina) PBR. Jimmy will scam you and is difficult to relate with.Nice clean open pool. Good selection of massage therapy. I actually tried the Couples massage in the maji spa it was the full 45 mins and was worth it.The bar is stocked with almost everything you would like. The restaurant looks nice enough to get visitors from other hotels. The beach is not as clean as one would like and the tides affect when you can get close to the water. The main down side to this place is the food. The food could be much better but the staff and the chef try as Much as possible with the requests but still fall short.The pool menu is simple but good. George, Hidia, Marcus, Simon are always helpful. Sheilla is a superstar (I stayed because of her). The Massai always make you feel comfortable security wise. The supervisor Jimmy isnt so much friendly and helpful.Jimmy inflates bills and the Italian owners should investigate him.Just like in most African Countries I suggest you bring your Insect and mosquito repleants. I would recommend this place as i feel they get better as they go on and it is as beautiful as they come. Asante.

Finished a holiday stay here on my first trip to zanz. Room was clean, air conditioned and well lit...hot water and great water pressure. Staff very attentive...pool is great! Not very deep but clean and well maintained. Food- breakfast buffet is solid and consistent every day, lunch and dinner was good (fyi- dinner served at 8pm for those wo have kids), there are options nearby that are walking distance. The mzunge masai security makes a nice touch. The ocean on this side of Zanz is tough to swim. Tide goes out almost 2 Km and when is comes back there is too much seaweed and you have to swim passed to enjoy the ocean. And you will need beach shoes! We found day trips to kendwa beach much nicer and coming back to the quiet pongwe bay is great.A good place to relax and disconnect from everything.

The place is really quiet and nice and a great place for safaris around the island. The drawback for us, was that we lost USD 950 from our room, taken by someone with a key. Those things happen, but the management were indifferent and said that is your problem. instead of asking what can we do?City tax is USD1 in Zanzibar. This hotel charges USD9 - We are guessing the USD8 goes to Italy. They are also (claimed from the staff) paying them poorly.It would have been nice to give them the full five stars, but the managemenss handling of having a keyholding thief in the staff, was poor. Contact with the local police was an adventure maybe worth the loss.My wife and I will never come back here.

We were in the hotel for 8 days reading the comments before my arrival, I thought everything was great, but a big disappointment! There were so many comments, the staff was kind, blah blah..so thats probably normal! First of all, let me tell you that there is no swimming in the sea There is so much ebb that the sea recedes far and when it comes back it gets dirty. So there is a swimming pool. The rooms and the balcony are big, there is no refrigerator in the room, we got towels with mascara stains. Maybe someone doesnt mind but for those who like us pay for a 4 star hotel and fly for 12 hours to enjoy and get nothing its not ok! There is a restaurant nearby that is ok, I forgot its name but it can be seen from the beach, on a small island, when it is low tide We go on foot there and when the tide is there they take you by boat. The hotel yard is beautiful, palm trees. We used the time to go on excursions and a 2 day trip on Safari, so we didnt stay much at the hotel. Now we moved to another place and another hotel but I will write about it at the end of my stay. So book in Kendwa, there there is swimming and beautiful sea. You can also book some part of Nungwa but on that side of the sea where Kendwa is. And please people write honestly or dont write you. I know you get to know the staff so its awkward for you to write, some of us begged to put nice comments but like I said better not write!

We stayed 8 days at the Pongwe Bay Resort and the stay was far beyond our expectations. Large and comfortable bungalow, which is also part of an architecturally interesting structure, especially as regards the main lobby and the restaurant. Excellent food, well-kept, with local and European offerings. Amazing staff, very attentive and helpful, governed by the incomparable direction of the Italian manager Gabriella, very kind and sympathetic. Just as very nice are Marco, in charge of the management and the kitchen and the very strong Masai who carry the suitcases on their shoulders with surprising agility. In summary: a quiet paradise, away from the noise and maddening crowds, with a nature beach subject to the tides and for this very reason very wild. Very recommended place for those who want tranquility, high level comfort and the convenience of having excellent cuisine available, even on the beach.

We just stayed at this resort with a couple of friends, we really enjoyed it. We liked everything about this structure, the beachfront house, a kind and nice staff, an impeccable Italian manageress and available for any eventuality. And if you are not very practical with English, Italian is spoken by many.If I go back to Zanzibar I will definitely make another stay here, at least for a few days.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

A small and quiet hotel with friendly staff and delicious cuisine. You can relax and unwind by the pool. The rooms are all air-conditioned and have a terrace with comfortable chairs and a table. Unfortunately, the beach is dirty with rubbish and seaweed every day.
