It’s a cheap place, comfortable and workers are kind. There is a restaurant in the entrance they gives you the breakfast (fruit, eggs, tea or coffee and toasts). They also have a menu for lunch and dinner cheap and worthy. The problem is that the internet is weak, sometimes the water runs out and there is no air conditioning in the room just a fan.
Best restaurant with local food in Nungwi, their fish curry was delicious and it’s only a couple of minutes walk from the beach.
Just had a delicious and memorable dinner here. Weve been on Zanzibar for about ten days and many of the restaurants seem to have the same menu... Burgers, pizza, plus perhaps a couple of other things. Here we had what felt like our first Zanzibar meal and it was delicious, with friendly service and much cheaper than the sea front restaurants. Id recommend asking for their home made spicy sauce, its very good, reminds me of the kind you get around the Caribbean and Central America. They very kindly have me a bottle with some in to take away to enhance future meals around the island!
Captain Morgan welcomes you there, near a very good massage center !
Good location but many issues. No hot water, electricity in the bathroom wouldn’t work, we had to buy our own toilet paper and put up our own blankets as curtains because there were none. The room was not cleaned once in the four days we were there and the manager refused to acknowledge this. We thought the beds and floor were covered with black/brown sand every night but on the last night realised these were termite eggs or droppings, thousands of them covering the room and our belongings. Our friend’s room was the same. The manager refused a refund and I had to sweep my own room clean of the termites. Awful
We stayed here for 4 nights and were very pleased with the service we received. The staff were all professional and welcoming, making our stay in Nungwi a real joy.Less then a minute walk to the beach, with a price that cant be beat!Even if you cant get a room I recommend stopping in for a visit there. The food was all delicious with reasonable prices. As well keep an eye out for Captain Morgan, the man is a true character and was always a pleasure to chat with. If you have any local questions or just looking for recommendations he was always my first choice. Very honest and helpful
We went to Nungwi to stay there for couple of days. We were searching the beach for somewhere to stay and behind this black gate there was this wonderful place called Cocoa Guest House. The garden with a table made out of a boat in the center, rooms very clean, wifi connection, and just the pure atmosphere of the place was really amazing. But the best about the place are the staff and the owner. They were very friendly, helpful, made us Spanish Omelet for breakfast and just took a really good care of us even made us a grill party one night with the most amazing Calamari you will ever eat in your life. Also they let us park the car there. Its really close to the beach like 50 meters. It was so great we changed our plans and extended our stay from 2 nights to 8. The spirit of the place, kindness of staff have just made this a best holiday. I would recommend Cocoa to anyone whos interested in a holiday where you are not locked in a golden cage. And the price is really low... its cheaper than paying your mortgage.
Its one of the best, clean and cheap restaurant and guest house in nugwi.fresh sea food cooked with a Swahili touch. Staff are friendly and the owner is v cooperative.I fully recommend it.
Nungwi is an expensive area. Cocoa guest house is affordable, covers good basics and has a very good breakfast. It is a small place therefore you have your neighbors very close by but it is good value for money. There is no view for the ocean but it is very very close by. Captain Morgan will assist you with activities at a good price. There are many restaurants around which are very good. The beach is busy, expect people to approach you constantly to sell you anything.
If you are looking for some delicious local food, by all means, go to Cocoa, order anything off the menu and you will be satisfied! The only catch is, you will wait for your food. Proper wait, min 40min up to an hour, but it is worth it.
Nice and clean, wifi working good. They clean and improve the place all the time. Funny owner - for the card payment he took me on the motorbike and drived me to tourist office where the payment could be realized.
Supernice place. And super nice staff. And amazing food. And Captain Morgan is a very kind man. Love it. Se you soon.Mr Rooba
Amazing food , went here 4 times in a week , seafood curry is the best on the island and the cheapest !! Well done
Amazing local food, so tasty and really good price. Very friendly staff. Thanks!
Really poor service. Booked a room here which was confirmed, when we arrived they said they declined it, I recieved the message a week later. They also didnt want to help us out and were really unfriendly!
If you are looking for some delicious local food this is definitely the place you are looking for. Really tasty at a good price!
Best welcoming crew i ve met on this island, all family involved and very kind, always here to support and make your trip unforgettable, thanks again captain ! :)

The worst place to stay overnight you could find .... but on booking.com everything was presented not bad as always. But in fact: small rooms, dirty, damp laundry. On the windows, instead of glass bars (thanks to this, you can not talk about sound insulation), the drain in the toilet does not work, the water in the tap is only cold, there is no elementary soap in the bathroom. There are padlocks on the doors, the door opens halfway, then rests on the floor due to sagging. There is sand everywhere and in the room on the floor as well. You can wash your feet after the beach only in the back of your room, passing through everything in the sand. Some noisy devices hum and squeak behind the wall for 20 hours a day.I don’t think about the air conditioner in a room without windows .... in the heat, then at +33.Sheer disappointment.Stayed 1 night and ran away to another hotel.Of course, neither the hotel nor booking went to the meeting and kept $ 200 for themselves. The only thing that was more or less was the breakfast. Fruits and scrambled eggs are hard to spoil.
Disgusting place! No glass in the windowsNoisyNo internet in roomsNo air conditionersInoperative equipment in the room, toilet door, etc.You cannot pay with a card in restika with them. This is a slum!
I am writing about the restaurant, it is just wonderful. Paella with seafood is the most delicious, soup with a lot of seafood, natural juices, as if without sugar and not diluted with water. Everything is delicious, fresh, prepared with a soul. Well, there is nothing to say about the prices - with such large portions, the prices are the lowest on the nungwi coast. Despite the fact that everything is clean, pleasant, fresh. We definitely recommend, went here several times.
100% recommendable! Very good food and good prices.
The best food I had in all of Nungwi in 3 days. Quality price, the best without a doubt.
We loved our stay at Captain Morgan.Very attentive, ideal location.Clean room, room service as well as a good breakfast. One star less for water that cuts frequently. We will definitely be back to Cocoa again
Very tasty local food at reasonable prices and the staff is very friendly too
It is not found on the beach but it fulfills its nutritional function. It is quite cheap compared to other inns. Despite some flies that were fluttering over there, the food was correct. The burger was quite tasty, the octopus salad acceptable.
For a local cafe, prices are high - the food is disgusting. Spoiled the soup, salad and rice with beef. The portions are small. Although there was a local man sitting next to us and a portion of beef (or fish) with rice was 2 times largerAnd after 20 minutes I vomited further than I saw. Do not go there in any case !!!!
Walking around the Nungwis decided to have a bite and went to the first available place, that was our mistake. The order was waited for an hour, although 5 people were spinning in the kitchen, and there were no more visitors. They brought a salad with seafood, at the sight of which I already felt bad. Instead of fish soup they brought vegetable, well, the fish on the grill was such that it seemed to be caught a year ago, frozen several times and then fried. Then another half hour was asked for an account from anyone who could, but we were successfully ignored. Until they came to the checkout and stood until they calculated us. In short, they left hungry and angry, spending more than 2 hours of time going nowhere
I noticed that I stayed for 4 nights. 1 minute walk from the main beach of Nungwi. Wi-Fi is also fast, there is a hot shower! All facilities are always clean, so its comfortable. Above all the staff is kind. It is good to ask the captain for activities such as snorkeling!
In this hotel did not live, however, several times came for lunch. The prices are reasonable, the food is delicious, the service is pleasant. Recommended!
Sleeping cheap in the north ZanzibarWe stayed for 4 nights at this hotel in the northern part of Zanzibar. It is known that the northern beaches are the most beautiful on the island, and it is certainly true, once you flee from the bustle of Zanzibar Town and after a comfortable trip to the north, it is appreciated to see the beautiful beaches here find. The rooms are true that they fulfill their function, but they do not stand out at all ... The place is beautiful, the houses are integrated with the vegetation and make the place pleasant, the bed is quite comfortable and has a mosquito net that comes very all right. The bathroom of the room IF YOU LOOK TO WISH, since they are old, and although to take a shower and to make your needs serve, they should give a little reform to all. The hotel is just 3 minutes walk from the beach, also passing by a couple of small shops where local people sell all kinds of souvenirs. You also have a 24h store at the entrance to the beach that has local prices a little inflated, but not a lot. The hotel is located next to real hotels, where you can go to eat or sleep some night (which really are not much more expensive), although on the beach you have a couple of restaurants to eat, yes. .. be patient because they take a century to serve you food (we were a large group, but still ...) What I did not like was the service, and I will qualify this: The rooms are clean and if you need toilet paper or a tolla you ask the women who are in charge of the cleaning and they provide it without problem, in addition, they can also wash your clothes for a small fee that you must negotiate with them in advance, and the breakfast is quite complete, powdered milk with coffee, toast, fruit and possibility of ordering tortilla or scrambled eggs, thats fine! But ... WiFi is so bad that it is almost non-existent, and you only have it if you are sitting at the reception desk where there is never anyone, or if you do not ask for it twice or even turn it on. In the breakfast there is not covered for all at the same time, so that, or you share it or wait for it to finish some, so that they give you a water and they put it to you, besides that, it takes A CENTURY TO SERVE you, and you have to remember several times what you have been asking for, because your level of tranquility is exasperating, although in Africa you go to another rhythm here you pass, and end up being for breakfast 30 or 40 minutes for a coffee and an omelette, if you had a fork to eat it ... well, thats a disaster to improve ...In summary: A cheap place to sleep in Zanzibar and enjoy the brutal beauty of its beaches and perform the many activities in the area. The hotel, although clean and functional, has a somewhat disastrous service and the bathrooms in the rooms need a reform, otherwise they are comfortable. That if ... you are next to the beach for a very affordable price and the place is quiet and beautiful.
All the family staff mocks customers. Orders placed quickly but more than 1 hour waiting to be served.Octopus salad (just 3 small pieces)
We eat for the third time) great food and good service, price = quality - I recommend)
Very close to the beach. Great option with breakfast for little money
Excellent, good staff, fast and close to the beach
Excellent location, and super cheap, price in line with the quality of the service / rooms
