Friendly staff, simple dinner and breakfast. Many rooms. You meet a lot of travelers on their way to or returning from safari

Its a very nice place! The owner and the staff is very friendly! The rooms are clean and the including food was delicious 😁One night we did a really nice campfire with BBQ.They also providing safari and after some compares with other agencies in the city we decided to go with him. So we had also a wonderful 4 days safari.Thanks Nelson ✌️

I highly recommend this place, the hostel is clean, offering all the commodities you might need and it is greatly managed by a team of young friendly persons. Great atmosphere at night sharing drinks or nice local food around a warm fire over the pool. Fantastic experience, if you ever stop in Arusha don’t look further you got the place you need !

Three stars because this place had pros and cons.Pros:Friendly staff,Good kitchen / living room,Swimming pool,Home cooked breakfast and dinner (included) was really good,They support volunteers in the local community.Cons:Bit disorganised - staff didnt have access to the online booking system and had allocated the room we had booked to someone else...,Swimming pool wasnt kept clean, so when we visited after a long long bus ride, it was too dirty to get in!Issues with hot water and the WiFi didnt work (and apparently never does).OK place but would probably look to stay somewhere else if visiting the area again.

I am a public health student doing a internship in Africa. I chose the organization focus in Africa. The coordinator of this is Nelson Mbise and he placed me in his hostel named Lionsgate.Once I have arrived in the Hostel l was welcomed by Iddi, who is working for Nelson. Nelson was often not available to talk, in a grumpy mood or he saying inappropriate things to the female guests. He told one of the girls who was only 18 years old, that she should come in his room at night if she feels lonely or cant sleep.The hostel is not at all what it looks like in the pictures of their website. There are unfinished construction areas and it is very dirty. My bathroom was so disgusting that I bought cleaning supplies the very next day to make it somewhat useable. Some of the dirt must have been there for a really long time as it was not even possible to remove all of it.Nelson told me if I want to have a single bedroom I have to pay on top of what I paid an additional 10$ per night. This would mean I pay 650$ per month for a dirty room with nothing but a bed. I have watched travelers coming in living in that private room for only 9$ per night.I watched travelers come in and out often sleeping in the same bedsheets. I got to switch into a different dorm room and my old room was given to someone else and they didnt even bother giving her new sheets. I paid for 3 meals a day but only received 2. When I asked Nelson why I dont receive lunch even though I paid for it, he asked me what else I need and I should not be so demanding.He spends most of the money coming in through travelers on drugs and alcohol and is regularly high at the hostel. In that state he is not willing to help with anything, my water ran out one night and he just told me the pump was broken, while in truth all he really had to do is get up and turn it on.While I stayed in the hostel someone has stolen money out of my room. Nelson apologized and promised to give it back to me. When I asked him about it, he said he is still investigating and never gave it back to me.Even though Nelson is advertising that the hostel has Wi-Fi, it has not been working, because he didnt pay for the bill. Nelson just lies to most of the travelers and tells them that company running the Wi-Fi is doing repairs. The food at the times when I stayed at the hostel alone is horrible and definitely not worth the money. It might just be plain spaghetti. Nelson has people working for him that he does not pay, so they rely on the guests buying them things or they will highly overcharge you on day trips.It is more than likely, that you will stay at this place alone as not many other people come through, and if they do, they leave quickly because of the bad conditions. There is neverany toilet paper, so prepare to buy that as well.Since I did an internship, I had to pay everything in advance and was therefore not able to switch the hostel, if this was an option I would have left as quickly as possible!

Lionsgate isnt about the fancies but about the people. Nelson is an absolutely amazing host who made us feel super welcome. Dinner time is always a conversation around tea, and its just such a welcoming and hospitable place. A little away from the city center but easy to access through the local transportation. If youre a backpacker looking to meet people, save money, but get functioning wifi, hot water, traditional home cooked dinner and a bed minus bedbugs, along with great service, lionsgate is a great option.

The stay at the lionsgate was very pleasant. Although the WiFi has rarely worked and the pool looked quite greenish, but the hospitality and the as well as good food made up for everything. Have even booked one more day. Anyone who does not value a pool and sometimes can do without WiFi will feel very comfortable there!
