From the start to the end I was blown away but helpfulness and professionalism of the Roadtrip crew. It took me a while to arrange my rental because of the complexity of my trip (crossing borders in different places) and covid restrictions changing daily. Lara was very patient with me and answered every question. If not her we wouldn’t come to Tanzania. She encouraged us that everything would work okay and it did. When we arrived to Kilimanjaro Airport we met Sebastian who brought us our amazing car. Africa’s Land Cruisers are J70 models which were introduced in 1984. They are still in production because of their sturdiness and simple mechanics. You can be mistaken by the look of the car (it looks old) but in Africa there is no better car. We loved everything about our Land Cruise. In Maasai Mara we hired ranger who took us into some extreme terrain. I was on the edge of getting a heart attack being afraid of getting stuck but our ranger was laughing snd telling us that it was nothing for the Land Cruiser. And he was right. This car is a tank. In Serengeti we run into fellow Roadtrippers. It was great to see other people exploring Africa in the same way as us. I also want to mention how amazing Roadtrip Tanzania crew is. We met Sebastian and Yusuphu. Such a friendly and helpful guys. Our trip was amazing thanks to Roadtrip Tanzania. When we come back to Africa it will be our rental company of choice. Hopefully for you too. You won’t regret it.
Its a nice company
Love them, great website to help preparing a self drive trip and awesome cars! I have personally driven one of their cars across Tanzania this summer, highly recommended
It was a wonderful experience with Roadtrip Africa to explore Tanzania on your own. From booking to returning the car, everything went smoothly. Laura answered all emails quickly and in a friendly manner, so that no questions remained unanswered. Yusuphu, our contact in Arusha, was equally helpful, friendly and professional. Even when we broke down in the National Park, we received quick and uncomplicated help! Highly recommended and would be happy to come back at any time ... with Roadtrip Africa!Thank you and hopefully see you soon ...Sheila, Carlos and Sascha
Last march we, me and two friends, rented a Toyota RAV4 including camping gear for a week with Roadtrip Tanzania and to do self-drive safaris and we loved every part of it! Communication with Andrew and his team was very easy and fast! They provided us with a lot of information and tips. Before we started, we were excited but also a bit nervous about driving in Tanzania ourselves. However, due to the good condition of the car and the roads and the excellent communication with Andrew, it was an amazing trip we didn’t want to miss! We felt very safe on the road. We started and ended our trip in Dar es Salaam, so we arranged a drop-off and pick-up, which went very smoothly! The camping gear was in good condition and very complete! There was also a terrific SD-card full of roadtrip music which made the trip even more enjoyable! We recommend everyone who is considering to rent a car in Tanzania, to go to Roadtrip Tanzania because it will be an unforgettable experience!
Friendly and professional staff. Serious company owned by european managers with competitive prices.
A great option to discovery this marvelous country yourself!
It´s more than just a good looking and well-structured web page ;)Since the first day you start planning your safari until the moment you deliver your rental car keys back to RoadtripAfrica, you are provided with all the tools required which will allow you to create your own Safari experience. We were 12 days on the road through the North of Tanzania, exploring National parks, Kilimanjaro and, needless to say: we had one of the best experiences of our lives.Thank you RoadtripAfrica
We can fully recommend Raodtrip Africa. They made it easy for us (2) to have our own self-drive camping trip in Tanzania. Car came fully equipped with camping gear - well looked after. We would always book again! Thanks a lot for this awesome experience!
We were very happy with our rented RAV4! The service of roadtrip africa was excellent, and self-driving in Tanzania has been a great experience. Would definitely recommend!
Before Tanzania I was traveling in South Africa and Namibia. I thought I wouldn’t need the car as good as a Landcruiser but I was wrong. The Landcruiser is necessity and the only suitable for trip to Serengeti and Lake Natron. The roads in Tanzania are much more demanding than I expected. Sometimes roads are just potholed terrain.I am grateful to Mrs. Laura for advising me on this rental.Landcruiser was an excellent choice. It worked without any errors or problems.
Its nice company
Clear recommendation - awesome experience! The delivery of the Landcruiser to Kilimanjaro Airport went perfectly. So we started our safari through Arusha, via Lake Manyara National Park, the Ngorongoro conservative area up to the Serengeti National Park. The rooftent, camping gear, and the Landcruiser in general were excellent, at a very reasonable price. Laura helped us with all questions and gave us great support in planning our road trip. I would definitely do a self drive safari again next time!
Road Trip Africa provide the perfect opportunity for an unforgettable safari experience. We have done self-drive in Uganda and hired a driver in Tanzania and either way is great. The vehicles are well-equipped and maintained and Laura and Yusuphu in the office couldnt be more helpful. Ali the driver was extremely experienced and very helpful with suggestions to maximise the use of our time, as well as having a great ability to find some amazing wildlife viewing opportunities and identify the less common birds and animals.Camping in the bush is just the best way to experience Africa - but even if you choose to stay in something more solid the flexibility and relatively low cost beats package safaris hands down.
If I am not mistaken here is serengeti
Good place to hire private car
Great company! They were very helpful and knowledgeable (before and during our trip). We loved that we were able to self-drive ourselves, but I highly recommend, if it is your first time, rent a driver!!!
Ansi was a amazing guide, awesome person. The truck was to all standards and we had the time of our lives. Any say enough good about them and the guide.

They did such a great job! We recommend doing a self-drive in Tanzania with Roadtrip Africa - without a doubt.Regards and Thanks to Yusuphu and Laura!
Excellent company! Andrew is kind, flexible and understanding. We have rented with Roadtrip Tanzania multiple times, and continue to have an easy, and high-quality experience. Their drivers are also wonderful, if and as needed. Thanks again for the great service.Anna and Andrew
AMAZING! dont hesitate and rent a car with Andrew and co. Great service, super well equipped (camping gear), and the adventure of a lifetime! Were two girls that drove our own car and are really happy we took this leap of faith! Everybody is very friendly, roads are great and you can go at your own pace. Flexible and very nice company!!
Great service and very reliable land cruiser. We enjoyed our trip through the national parks around arusha a lot. Thanks!
Weve had a great road trip through Tanzania with a Roadtrip Africa RAV4 car. Great communication with the team, also during our trip always available for help through phone and whatsapp.
My experience with Roadtrip Tanzania has been amazing! They were speedy with replying to my emails, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the car and camping equipement were perfect! While it’s wet season the roads were a bit daunting but the car handled everything well and gave me tons of confidence! I can’t recommend the car, camping equipment and the staff at Roadtrip Tanzania enough!
Great custumer service, good car, all possible camping gear we needed and more and overall an AMAZING experience to do a roadtrip in Tanzania (+do the safari on your own). Highly recommended!
Wauw, my trip in Tanzania was amazing. Together with my boyfriend we visited this beautiful country in September 2015. We had booked our self drive holiday with Roadtrip Tanzania and rented a Toyota Rav4 car. It was in good condition en performed great during our road trip. Many thanks to Roadtrip Tanzania who gave us loads of travel tips. We went up north and visited awesome parks and travelled along the coast. This company is easy going and gave great assistance during our travels, thanks again Andrew ;). A real adventure I’ll tell ya, I loved it!
Sturdy cars and excellent service. Challenging driving in the National Parks.
My daughter and I just got back from our second self drive camping trip in Tanzania. While we fit in some game drives on both trips, our visits were focused around visiting the remote school/village where she worked for a year.On this trip, we booked our car and camping gear from Roadtrip Tanzania - a big shout out to them for their excellent service and support throughout.Driving in Tanzania can be an adventure although the roads are improving and we found other drivers were largely courteous and helpful. You should be somewhat informed about driving rules before you start (e.g., do not speed in the numerous 50 kph zones you encounter along the highway). But also be aware that police will try to take advantage of you on occasion with all sorts of trumped up rules - dont be afraid to politely but forcefully argue with them when they tell you things like, it is against the rules to travel with luggage in your car. Having someone who can converse in Swahili is a big asset (thanks Chels).Highlight in the parks on this trip was spending 15 minutes alone with four tree lions in Lake Manyara National Park.Biggest advantage of self drive option is how it puts you in constant contact with real life in Tanzania and gives you freedom to adapt (an important asset) along the way. I would highly recommend it to anyone willing to take on the adventure. Having support from a company like Roadtrip Tanzania took so much stress off this time. So contact them if you are considering the self drive option.
Self-drive safari in the Africa is the best.In July 2018, I made my first journey to Africa. I decided to do a six week self-drive safari in Tanzania (without a guide), and had the good fortune of renting a rugged little Toyota Rav4 from Andrew Bannan, the manager of Road Trip Tanzania in Arusha. Well, long story short, I had a wonderful time, my car ran like a dream, and I can’t say enough nice things about Mr. Bannan. He’s a real gentleman. In fact, I was having so much fun, I decided to extend my trip on two separate occasions in the middle of the high season, and fortunately for me, both times Andrew was able to pull a few strings and keep me rolling uninterrupted for almost four months straight, in the same dependable little car at a really affordable price, and I loved every minute of it.And because of my rather hectic schedule, I was in and out of Andrew’s beautiful office in Arusha nearly a dozen times, and saw him working with his whole crew on many occasions, and I’m sure they all love him as much as I do. Indeed, all his colleagues are just as sweet and professional as he is, and make you feel right at home, right away.So do yourself a solid, take a walk on the wild side, leave the tourist traps behind, and chart your own self-drive safari with Road Trip Tanzania, and I’m sure you’ll have the time of your life as well.Go wildSteven Downey
You need a car in Tanzania ? Roadtrip Tanzania is just the best ! The staff is kind, flexible and easy going ! Weve rented a Toyota Rav4, the car was perfect for a self drive in national parks. Easy to drive and it was a fair price offer !
We had a very good experience with Road Trip Tanzania, especially with our driver Saimon. He is gentle and drives safely on busy and rough roads. He helped us with many things to organise our safari and sorted out some problems we encountered during the trip. We can recommend him as a driver and guide. We traveled in October 2018 for two weeks to Bagamoyo. Saadanipark, Aamani park, Morogoro, Iringa and Ruahapark. Very beautiful and not crowded. A real Tanzania experience.Alma de Kok and Bert Biemold.
In August 2017 we rented a Toyota Landcruiser with camping equipment. The vehicle was old (500.000 kilometers) and worn out and the camping equipment was very bad. After a short drive we decided to refuse the vehicle and the equipment. Andrew replaced the tent by another tent which was bad as well (but slightly better) and the Landcruiser by a Toyota Rav 4, because it was the only vehicle available. He refunded the price difference. During our trip we met somebody who new the old vehicle: just before we could rent it, it was rented to a German who saw every garage in Tanzania He was fed up with the car and Andrew replaced it with another car he had to rent. The rest of the camping equipment was very basic and not very suitable for a self drive trip.Fred and Heleen Freriks

Rental March-April 2018. One of the few rentals in Tanzania that specialize in individual travelers and rent cars to self-drivers. Even for the Serengeti. Mr. Andrew Bannan, a New Zealander, is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful in preparation - no detail is overlooked. Handover and return was reliable, quick and uncomplicated. One way Arusha - Serengeti no problem. The car could be handed over at the Seronera Airstrip while we were using the plane to return to Arusha. Rightly, I would actually have to deduct one point because the land cruiser was old and rickety - almost 500,000 km - and not necessarily in a condition that you would expect as a rental customer. Despite this, the car drove reliably and caused no problems. In addition, you shouldnt expect rental cars of European dimensions in East Africa. Given the unbeatable price and the successful overall package from Roadtrip, I give full marks. We will always rent from Roadtrip again and again, regardless of the country in East Africa. Highly recommended.
