Wish the place to be open back
Pretty small, somewhat basic exhibition about art (carving, masonry, clothing). Can go if youre nearby. Got charged 3$.
Unless you are really bored and have nothing else to do then only this museum would be worth it, maybe. There is really nothing much there and is quite disorganized.
Best place for tourism
Dusty and dry museum but still informative of island life and the origins of certain customs. Worth a visit if culture floats your boat.
This is at the southern end of stone town, near the junction of creek road and kaunda road in the area called Mnazi Moja. It is also known by its local title: Beit El Amani (House of Peace). With its distinctive dome, arabesque windows and whitewashed walls, the building looks like a mosque or basilica church. It was designed by the British architect J H Sinclair, who also designed the high court, the British residency and several other public buildings around Zanzibar town.Museum is a misnomer nowadays, as virtually all its viewable exhibits have been shifted to the rapidly developing museum in the House of Wonders and the place now serves as a library. Its well-known giant tortoises have been transferred to Prison Island.
The place is full of historical assets including that old official Jaguar official car once used as state car for the 1st Zanzibar President Karume

STONE TOWN
Its historical Museum in Zanzibar which stored alot of historical articals and artifact about zanzibar history
The museum itself is beautiful on the outside, it was not inside, but in the neighboring museum behind it with animals was, the entrance was 5,000 shillings (150 rubles), well, a very meager assortment of exhibits presented and not very well-groomed, there was some kind of poverty, there is a hall with locals at the entrance books, there are 18th century books and older ... In general, if you are a botanist, then it’s worth it, but only if there’s nothing to do, well, for example, I’m just interested in everything, thats it 😊✊
Sparrows and midges live inside! Midges bite. The building was originally built as a memorial in memory of the Zanzibari people who participated in the First World War. There are 3 signs about this - outside and inside. There is no information stand, the museum employee does not know how many residents of Zanzibar participated, how many died. He does not disclose the details of the hostilities, I had to read Wikipedia myself. The exhibition presents the arts and crafts of Zanzibar. Annotations in English and Swahili. Showcases are old, no normal lighting. The museum looks very unkempt and abandoned. The portrait of the first president stands right on the floor. The stand dedicated to Freddie Mercury is beyond good and evil.It is very sad that the museum is in such a state. It really has interesting exhibits. Hopefully, funding will increase, renovations will be made and the museum will have better times.
The beaches on one side are protected and chic, but do not miss the old town of Zanzibar with its old-fashioned charm. An architecture that is often very beautiful but is falling apart. Some rehabilitations here and there but there is still so much to do.
Closed not maintained
In renovation
Nice but not very interesting
To walk perfect
✌️
