Best and authentic South Indian food in town. We tried the vegetarian curry, almost spicy with different spices inside. The portions are not too small. The prices are comparable with the prices of the other restaurants. Rooftop-View with friendly staff. Really to recommend!

We ended up here after we didnt get any service at two other restaurants. Relaxed setting with super tasty food. The directions could be a bit better, but luckily there was someone standing outside with a menu that could show us where the entrance is. We ended up taking friends there the next day, because we enjoyed it so much! They have quite a variety of interesting cocktails. Tasty food, lovely cocktails, well priced.

Best Indian food in town!!!! Me and my partner both agree. We have been in Stone Town for almost two weeks and have been here 4 times already😳. Cocktails are the cheapest around. The food isnt cheap but everything weve tried tasted amazing and the portions are big...we have had to get takeaway most times. We go at night when its cool, its an open air restaurant and it is on the 3rd level so it overlooks some of the town. Its beautiful and creates a very nice atmosphere. Cant recommend this restauraunt enough!

I came here because the next door Krishna house watched me stand waiting for anyone for about 10 minutes. Apparently I have to launch a flare to be noticed. Ridiculous. The silk Route on the other hand has great food and actively engaged staff and management noticing when people need a drink, etc. The food was top notch in both visits. And the service was excellent at the silk route. Krishna house next door is relatively terrible. Silk house is a go to for a vegetalerian.

Extremely expensive for what it is. We started with a mango lassie that was sweetened with added white sugar, when we asked for an unsweetened alternative after just one sip, they declined to make. New one. The food quality is average overall, I’m very familiar with Indian cuisine and this one was rather mediocre, definitely pricey for what it is. The restaurant was clean and service was speedy, hence the 3 stars. Summary: I won’t come back here

Heard great things but read poor reviews so I felt like sharing my own experience. We we’re seated on a table with an excellent view, the service was great and the food tasted delicious. We got murgh malai tikka, lamb rogan ghosht, silk route daal, jeera methi chicken and tandoori naan. The lamb was a bit too chewy than it needed to be but everything else tasted excellent. The jeera methi chicken was especially delicious! Amazing flavour.Great Indian restaurant if you’re a tourist and craving Indian food :) oh and also they have wifi so that helps if you’re a tourist as well. it also helped me write this review from the restaurant..just had to share the positive experience!Ps. We ordered butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, both tasted the same (like no spice or salt whatsoever) and the chicken seemed to be lying around for quite some time. The fresh orange juice took longer to prepare than the food so I assume the meal was just put in a microwave and heated rather than being prepared fresh.

This place is heaven on earth. The staff are very welcoming and the service was superb. The manager was very very humble. We had a nice time interacting with the restaurant owner mrs shobha raja, she too was from tanga so it was fun remembering the olden days. She made sure we got our meals on time and would come and ask if everything was ok. We visited this restaurant 4 times during our trip and the best part was when she gifted a bangle set to my 1.5 yr old daughter. It was really really kind of her. Would highly recommend this place and we will definately visit again soon.

The best Indian food Ive ever had. I ordered two complete dinners and waddled home. This restaurant has raised the bar and I will always compare other Indian meals to this experience. It may one day be equalled... but never surpassed. Well done chef.

This place has many good reviews online & one of the friends really wanted to try it so we decided why not. Indian cuisine is never disappointing. Well, I take my statement back. It is!! The staff were welcoming & the atmosphere/set-up was lovely. It was nice and cosy. The food on the other hand was quite dissappointing. The seafood smelt strange & after tasting a prawn we decided to return it The manager was very nice about it, told us not to worry and that we can order another dish. We assumed they would remove the charge for the seafood & charge us for our new dish that we ordered. (Butter chicken, which was quite standard. Nothing special) Instead they gave the butter chicken free of charge & charged the seafood which was pricier ofcourse. Nevertheless we paid & left.Summary: Wouldnt go there again. Would rather buy some nice street food for less than 1/4 of the price.

Lovely location, but thats pretty much it. The waiter didnt really speak English, he misunderstood our order and we ended up with one starter instead of two and our drinks had ice, even if weve asked to have them without. The seafood platter was disappointing, nothing was really fresh in it and it was really expensive. Ice cream was offered by the manager, but it was a really poor attempt to apologise for such low quality food.

I am writing this review after a week. Wanted to share my experience on this restaurant. While I was in Zanzibar I was craving for Indian food, found this restaurant with very good reviews and visited this place. Asked them for chat Pata aloo and I received boiled potato with tomato sauce.. was very disappointing. Then o ordered aloo Gobi, asked them to make it more spicy the manager comes to me and said they cannot amend the taste of the food now, as there were a lot of customers and the kitchen is in the ground floor where as the restaurant was located on the 2nd floor. I understood his prob and said its okay. Ate my food which was average tasting and no where close to Indian taste. And my bill came up to 80k shilling as I had packed for the night.Later after 2 days we missed our flight, and it was time for early lunch around 11 in the afternoon, thought of visiting silk route again. When I visited the place this time, there was no customers apart from a couple in the corner. The manager recognized us, came to us for the order, I asked him in a funny way, if he can make my food a lil spicy this time - his answer was , the chef will not appreciate to change this way of cooking and they said its always the indians who comes here wants us to change the taste of the food or amend according to them.. my husband was very upset with his answer. We again told him, as the food was very bland we just asked you to put 2 extra chillies or flakes, he said he cannot change the taste. We decided not to have the main course from there and just order for some snacks and leave the place. Then we ordered for samosas, which was not again the authentic Indian samosas but still good. And in sometime I saw a family from Italy came to the restaurant and sat on the next table. They ordered for food, and I saw a plate full if frimes they received, I felt like eating it, called the manager and asked if I can get the frimes, you get it if the main course bill amount should be greater than 50+ shilling. And our bill was 40+, anyway I said I can pay for it. And then recalled just 2 days ago my bill was 80k and I never received it if was complimentary. Then he was like ok fine let me get one for u, and he got me just 3 pieces of the fries where as of others it was served royallu with pickles and plate full of fries. I was not begging him for it anyway, I was ready to pay for it.I was very disappointed with his behavior, alot of discrimination b/w people. Doesnt change the minimal things in the cusine for the customer. And calls itself an authentic Indian taste which I would 1 out of 5 for the taste and 0 out f 5 for the customer service.
