Great discovery! Its a small hotel, clean, well kept; with great staff that are very attentive, helpful, and friendly. The location is great. They dont sell alcohol in their premises but have nice and flavourful mocktails. Almost forgot to mention the spa services: excellent! I will definitely go back!

Very bad Hotel. Only a handful of the stuff speaks english. The rooms are very weird. Big bathtube instead of a shower. Water pressure nearly to zero. They took our stuff from the beach without even telling us, we were looking for. Long time for it until we found it at the reception. Wifi is very bad. Food is average. Every second evening the same menu. Waiter so slow. You will wait 45min for a simple burger. The beach is okay. No Fan in the Restaurant. Shower at the pool didnt work and the pool was ugly. They dont sell alcohol.

Smiles Beach Oct 2021Small nice hotel directly at the sea. The room was big, the bathroom with tub (ok, that was a bit irritating) and shower also big enough. Comfortable desk chairs in front of the door , like a patio , overlooking the sea were very nice.Having water cooker, coffee and a fridge was quite decent.The staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms get a good clean in the morning and another good soul comes in the evening to pack the bed in the mosquito net. Laundry does a great job and the front desk guys are helpful.The breakfast is not middleuropean, but with fresh fruit, omelette and Lokal dishes sufficient and tasty. And the view of the sea is great.The sea should be mentioned. There is a high tidal range here, which can vary greatly depending on the day. Sometimes you go straight into the sea from a staircase, sometimes you have to wade in a few steps until you can swim. There is also seaweed in varying quantities...- but well, its just nature.The pool is nice to hang out in. At the pool bar you can get delicious juices, alcohol is not available here. But there is enough food and drink in the area. You can also leave the beach and walk into the village.Minor problems have been solved without discussion. Laundry service works well.Two things to improve:- internet is somewhat instable and slow. For casual usage ok. If you need to do business, a bit tricky. Bars/Restaurants arround have stable WiFi.- Restaurant is more focussed on the all-in bookings and receive the price as the slowest on the beach. A new waiter dud try to improve sone stuff in the last days.Surrounding is a pretty beach where you have water taxi, fishermen, diving, bars and restaurants in walking distance. Great. Be aware, that there is only one ATM in the whole north and people often don’t like cards (disrupting their business, well). The hotel accept credit card, though.fun fact: beds are rather short, if you are above 1.75cm.changed direction 90 degree - perfect.Conclusion: We found it just right for us and our 2 week relaxing stay with diving and some exploring and are happy to recommend it to others.Disclaimer:We are seasoned traveller, been every continent besides Arctica/Antartica.Not the first stay in Africa. One of the best hotels in Zanzibar. Clean and tidy and everything in order. Rooms and toilets are spacious and clean.The staff are friendly and dinner was lovely, enjoy the breeze while you relax on the hammock and forget worldly matters.Unlike many hotels in Zanzibar, this resort is not filled with beach boys and crowded individuals but rather privacy and calmness.I enjoyed my stay and would recommend Smiles Beach Hotel to anyone visiting Zanzibar...

Okay stay. Rooms were a bit dated but charming from the outside and comfortable enough.The pool is nice and it’s in a good quiet area of Nungwi next to the Hilton, and right On the beach.Service variable. Breakfast average. Room had a few issues- toilet stopped working, and we had a few pests in the room. Part of that is just the joy of the tropics and no fault of the hotel, so not a huge deal.

I loved this hotel . Comfortable rooms. A/C. Turned down service at night with spraying your room for mosquitoes and arranging the mosquito net. Great beach, wonderful restaurant staff. Masai security guard who was very attentive and nice. A beautiful beach. Dan the manager was very approachable and has great ideas for this establishment. No alcohol served in restaurant but BYOB. Ill be back some day.

I don’t often write a bad review, but the smile beach hotel really let me down and would not even give it 1 star. We stayed there last year.Rusty salt shakers, mosquito net with holes, the water wouldn’t stop running in the toilet in our room after flushed, swimming pool full of bleach, making no use of the nice beach sound instead playing depressing music in the restaurant .After 3 days We couldn’t stay another day here to complete our 5 days stay we booked.Thanks to hotel.com we got a refund for the 2 day we didn’t stay .You will not see me there again. The issue was not resolved because we still paid in full for the days we stayed but got money back for the days we didn’t.

Quiet. Super nice staff. Great location. Rooms are clean and spacious by our standards and have mosquito nets, fridge, hot water pot w/tea and coffee, A/C and a great balcony with seats with a view of the pool and ocean. Family is also enjoying the included breakfasts. Overall perfect for what we were looking for - chill place to relax, catch up on reading, swim and enjoy the scenery.

Decent place, quiet at night. New management is working on upgrading the small issues. Needs hot water though, if I spend over $100USD Im expecting hot water, especially if its advertised to have hot water. Besides that, great place where the beach side hagglers are kept at bay by the massai security guard.Good food too, the breakfast being included was great.

Great place to stay in Nungwi close enough to walk everywhere , far away to relax . The beach is great and the service . Only thing they don’t have alcohol but you can bring your own. The staff is really nice.

Great place to relax and do nothing. Rooms are spacious and very nice. The bathroom could be a little nicer especially the shower. Not a lot of choice in the restaurant but its good quality. The view from the beds on the beach is stunning and during low tide you can walk out through the coral and spot small fish and star fish. Just watch out for sea urchins! The price for a stay is a little steep but the price of food is low.Just keep in mind that its an Islamic island and that the locals are offended if you walk around in your swimsuit in town or on the beach. Keep your shoulders and knees covered.

My wife and I visited the restaurant of this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed a good curry dish. Unlike many other places along the beach, the music wasnt too loud. But most of all, well forever remember this place for the excellent service of Jacqueline, a wonderful waitress. We stayed at the nearby Hilton, but none of the Hilton staff came close to her level of genuine customer care and kindness. Thank you Smiles and thank you Jacqueline!

An amazing hotel with very personable staff. There are only 16 suites divided amongst 4 buildings that are on the beach. The hotel is on the quieter side of the beachfront and the party hotels are just a 5 to 10 min walk in either direction. They have their own outdoor pool as well as a massage parlor. The food menu is great and the kitchen is available all day. The staff speaks great English (the manager is from the Netherlands). This hotel is right next to the Hilton Double Tree, so dont pay more for the same beach front.

The staff were friendly, and the rooms were comfortable. The hotel needs to work on their maintenance though.

When staying at nungwi we were struggling to find a place we were happy to eat at until we found this place. The kitchen was clean, quiet environment, close by the sea. The coconut curry is a must have, absolutely delicious with rice. The prices were reasonable, the food takes a bit long to prepare but well worth waiting for.

Going to this place you see a great contrast between the local Zanzibar people and the turists who visit this lush Island. This hotel tries to keep local looks but also maintain the highest luxus for the tourists.Beautiful place, great and attentive staff who really gets to know you, laidback style and cheap. They recommend and plan activities for you and does just about anything you ask them to.While I didnt try their spa, i did hear from other guests it was great!But they do have power failures like the rest of the island, and birds flocking about everywhere (even in the houses), some minor leakage and not all the food at their restaurant were all that great, so that dragged it down for me... The breakfast was, however, really good!

Far to expensive. Rating for rooms, beach (not a real beach), pool and coutryard: one star; sunset and sea view: five stars. We payed 160$/night and double room in august but its worth maybe 60 $ to 80 $. Location in matters of sunset and pure sea view is amazing

We had 10 days in Smiles. Position is perfect,far from crowd and near all you need. No beach boys. Just few minutes of walk from shops or restourants..We had some smal problems but Yana and her staff made everything perfect. Thanks a lot Yana,for your kind and welcoming personality.

If you get it real real cheap its ok, but the DoubleTree next store looks way nicer, and didnt seem that much more expensive. The beds are huge but hard, everything is pretty basic, power goes out sometimes at night (meaning no aircon or fan....)

Best location in Nungwi, on the quiet part of the beach but very close to other restaurants. Staff are friendly and helpful. I was travelling with two friends and we got along with the masai from day one! I would definitely go back :)

Nice big space; more like a camp ground with bungalows. Clean rooms recently done up yet basic. Patchy services (eg power outages throughout the week, very hit or miss food) Overall, the price charged is not worth it by some distance. I would go cheaper or go posher: this place is a bit stuck in the middle offer wise yet still is charges $145 (high season 2017)

It is quite beautiful place to stay however, I thought the food takes little bit longer than usual. By the way no alcoholic drinks sold here although you can come with your own.

A secluded hotel with a small number of rooms. The beach on the 1st line has always been half empty, which will allow you to spend time enjoying the sound of the ocean. Of the advantages, good cleaning of the rooms. The downside is the limited choice of food for breakfast.

Who wants to have a calm and beautiful rest - you are in Smiles. Great view from the room, pool, ocean. You wont be hungry after breakfast. In advance, you need to prepare yourself that you are in Africa and everything will be great!

Great hotel, cleaning every day, 0.3 water every day)There is no theft, you can safely leave money and gadgets without hiding in the room, no one will touch them. The staff is very friendly, the guys at the reception helped with all the questions, the hotel staff just always smiled and tried to help so that we would be less stressed) there is a local security guard who watches the sun loungers day and night, so that towels and things can also be safely left without supervision.Good hotel restaurant, good breakfasts: Fershi, vegetables, fruits every day. The beach is steep in its own way, a couple of times we walked 10-15 minutes on foot to another beach, and spent the rest of the time at the hotel) so, in principle, everything is on the level, there is nothing bad to say.

And they settled in a barn. THERE IS A HUGE CLAIMS TO THE TRAVEL ORGANIZERS FOR A DISRUPTED HOLIDAY. 🤬🤬🤬🤬And a separate claim to the guides, namely NINA (NINA MSG TURISTIC)Hamit, no one wants to solve our problems with settling. Cool place for a few days; clean everywhere close; nice beach and the ebb and flow are not an obstacle in bathing.However, different sellers pass along the amphibian, so it is better to take a deckchair in the second line so that they do not get caught.The biggest drawback is the restaurant. Dirty; no choice for breakfast long waiting for lunch (because, for example, the butter has run out).
