A great place to visit on your own from Stone Town. We had a tour with Abdul and Mohammed, who showed us various plants that grow in Zanzibar. This is a small farm, so you have a couple of different plants near each other - do not expect rows and rows of the same plant. Its the best way to see different spices and fruits, as the tour is quite thorough and takes around 2 hours. We visited during the spring, which is early for many plants - we saw very young or old ones. They still were great! The fruit and tea treat at the end was also really cool.We took dala dala 511 from nearby Darajani market (not sure if that was still the market. And it went south first, near the hospital). Dala dala was 1000 TSh, entrance to the farm 10 000 TSh, tips not included. The guides were very friendly and did not try to force us to tip, like I read in some reviews of other farms. They did their job really well and earned our thanks :)
The spice farms must see in Zanzibar, you will know exactly how is the spices you get from supermarket at its original status as a plant 🌱 it was really great experience and should not be missed, for example do u love cinnamon ? Who doesn’t !! you will see the cinnamon tree 🌳 and how they get it from the tree coat..
Not worth the visit. They grow ginger, coconut, few other common fruits - nothing special. For entry they asked 20usd per person, then reduced to 10 after we refused to go. Still not worth the visit.
I think this farm and the « Big Body with Tatata Spice Farm » are the same...Well, we really enjoyed our tour, it was really interesting and discover a lot of new things! A smiling guide who answered all our questions !I confirm however that they try to « rob » you as much money as they can especially with unexpected/unnecessary tips...The entrance is 10 USD not more... Don’t believe that it’s more because there is a community that you help...
We had so much fun here. Tons to see, smell and taste. Buying spices here are more expensive in town, but they are much fresher. Purchase here as the price increase is worth the quality difference. See if you can catch a glimpse of the Butterfly climbing up the coconut palms as well. When you come back from the tour, everyone will know you were just there... the free merchandise gives it away.
At the beginning we were a bit hesitated, but it ended up as a great tour in a nice garden. Very informative trip and very friendly and welcoming guide. It is definitely a must do on Zanzibar island.
It is amazing! We didnt have the spice tour but its highly recommended by others. We got to buy various spices, small perfumes, & vanilla extract. At the end of our trip we discovered we can buy spices in abundance from local markets but of course its a great experience to see cinnamon trees for the 1st time in my life.
Interesting information received from the guide and a lot of plants that we did not see in Europe. We arrived at the farm around 16.30 and the guide was very nice and stayed with us (just 2 persons) until 18.30-19.00 (until de sunset)
Great experience, nice guides and completely worth the money!
Mr Foum Garu is a very knowledgeable and warm hearted teacher and guide. He owns Heritage Spice Farm and chairs a collective of 30 organic spice growers in the area. He is also a professional teacher of Agriculture and continues to teach students at the government sponsored research centers and institutes. His English is very good and he has travelled extensively around the world to enhance his masters level education.
Great place to see how different spices are grown
Very nice, takes quite a long time to walk through (more than 1.5h), but very educational. Also cheap price of their home products (soaps, perfumes...).
Wonderful farm and very interesting tour. The best trip in Zanzibar!
Heavy spices and more fruit 🍓🍑 procurable there with nice test of zanzibar.
We did the Kidichi Kitchen expérience and it was really nice!
Nice place to visit. Guides very good at giving great info. They even climbed a coconut tree for us. SUPERB
Amazing place for spices culture , the flower which is main ingredient in the makeup we use can be seen there and many other spices ….
Funny tour guide and got to see some interesting spices. Was let down by the shop at the end, most of the interesting spices we saw on the tour were not available for sale. All they had were overpriced store bought spices. I think this is common with spice farms in Zanzibar, which is just sad. Had a good time on the farm though, everyone was nice and friendly to tourists.
The explanation of spices and plants is very interesting. Just be careful about the pricing. They try to make too much money out of everything. The guide was not officially from the site but wanted a big tip afterwards. Same for the coconut tree climber...
Scam. Guy shows 7 trees and let you drink coconut with bananas for $10 per person. Total scam for Zanzibar. Highly do not recommend. Should be 5000 shilliings.
We had a fantastically informative and fun time here. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. We tried lots of spices and fruits and bought some great products to take home.
Definitely a must visit place! You will learn a lot, from how plants grow, how cocoa seeds look like, cinnamon, cardamon, vanilla all the other goodies! Make sure to tip the guides and visit the gift shop! Love it!
We had a three-hour tour through the spice farm with Miki who spoke excellent English and German. He was very knowlegeable and entertaining. Its a must not only for hobby cooks, but also for all food-lovers. You see where the spices for your food come from.
A local spice farm in Zanzibar. We found a guide who took us around and told us a bit about spices that are grown there (the guide had no special price, we paid a tip at the end of the tour). There was a fresh fruit tasting at the end of the tour. You have to pay an entrance fee to the owners of the farm, we paid 10$ for two people. There was another man, who climbed a coconut tree and made us hats from leaves. We gave him a tip at the end of the tour too.At the end of the tour you are free to buy some spices, though the prices were a bit high (5$ for 2 small bags). The spice tour itself was great and interesting, a must see for those who havent been on a spice farm.
Interesting place to go and to learn about how the spices are farmed. However, I would not recommend to buy spices there, its too expensive! In stone town its mich cheaper and there is a wider offer of spices. ,
Ok so first of all be aware! There is no fixed price but just tipping the guide and guy who climbs tree if you go on your own.At the end of the tour the guide asked for 2 of us the ridiculous amount of 50USD!We said it was simply crazy and offered him 30.000 TSH that is already a lot but he wouldnt let us go so we ended up giving him other 20.000 because we didnt want any trouble. He even laughed at us when we said that 50$ is a lot of money maybe he is used to really wealthy tourists. So disappointed of what happened and really bad for Zanzibar tourism that people like this are around.Tour is interesting but nothing that special to justify the request of 50 dollars!
One of the highlights from our trip. It was so informative and the guides as well as the host made everything interesting. Learnt so much in such a short time.
The place is amazing, so much to learn.Tanzania if we use our resources we wont require off the shelf medicine. We need reach departments.Love the land.
Great amazing experience. My daughter has a great birthday treat here. Drunk fresh coconut water and had a coconut crown.
For me the route doesn’t worth it. Tour around spice farm was good for 5 usd. Watch on the road when walking - there are many thorns.
One of the best places on island to visit. Many spicies of trees, fruit and spices. Fresh coconut delicious, and many gifts from personnel.
Great spice farm and nice guide
The spice farmer was an excellent host and we learned so much, the fruit there is heavenly. Everything was just excellent!
It was an interesting tour but totally unsuitable for people with mobility problems. The toilet facilities can only described as disgusting at best.
Very good visit! Gives you a nice idea of where and how to cultivate spices as well as how to cook with them.
Interesting and they know a lot about it but they ask you tips for everything when the there is a price for the entrance already. On top they expect you to buy a lot of things.
Good staff, gave such nice information and our kids enjoyed the tour
