We organised this tour for a day to mostly go out to see the seaweed projects by the women on the East Coast of Zanzibar. We booked it online on the Colours of Zanzibar website, and had good communication through email (we were on the road travelling for a few weeks before Zanzibar). First off we were taken to the Jiz Forest Reserve, where there was a mass of tourists all gathered around the monkeys,, then we were taken through a 20 mins forest stroll with an obviously scripted stopping point tour guide. We had to force a few minutes to go to the forest display to read about the background of the reserve. Then back into the bus to nip down to the mangroves, and walk though them on raised boardwalks. We enjoyed this bit, but mostly because one of our group was a marine biologist who could cover all the info and elaborate on the limited knowledge of our guide. We then drove onwards to the village on the east coast which was unexpectedly right behind a beach FULL of resorts. We picked up a village guide who talked us through the village very well, and we finally got the seaweed project. Turned out the tide was in now in the afternoon and we couldn’t walk out to the seaweed beds and racks. Back at a house we had a great demonstration of maize milling, flour milling, rope making and seaweed processing.  We were rushed through rest of tour and missed the basket weaving so we could get to lunch, which was in a local house, and very good to see local living and food. Driving back to Stonetown, we noted that the forest reserve was now very quiet with few tourists, and suggest that the trip be run backwards with the village first and forest on way home., and we could have seen the seaweed racks at low tide in the morning. The guide did her best we feel, but lacked the knowledge in any depth. Overall we were a little disappointed by the tour, as it was possibly just not aimed at our type of tourist, probably more towards the mainstream/mass market from the big resorts.

Booked the Spice Tour via their website, it was an easy process. Communication on WhatsApp was fast and helpful. Unfortunately, there was confusion between the office and the guide with regards to our pick up time, so we were left behind. However, they quickly arranged for another driver to take us to the farm, but we arrived late and didnt tour with our scheduled group. Nevertheless, the guide we ended up with was good and informative. He knew a lot about the spices we saw, and their uses. They made a delicious lunch for us, with fruit tasting. When we finally met up with the Colors of Zanzibar guide, she was extremely apologetic for the inconvenience.

I totally recommend Colors of Zanzibar, they provided me transfers, hotel reservations and tours according to my needs. I discovered the real Zanzibar visiting a village tour in Jambiani with a local guide, I visited the school, met kids and had a lunch in a house at the town. I also took Swahili cooking class with a wonderful and cheerful woman. The walking tour in Stone Town was also great...surprisingly the guide was Spanish speaker!

Colors of Zanzibar is the best Organisation that we ever had. They are very helpful and respond to our requests. We booked the following tours: spice tour and stone town tour together. The guides were very good. Especially Mbwana. He told us a lot of things about stone town which makes Zanzibar more interesting.  Furthermore we booked Nungwi village tour which was an extraordinary experience for us. Thank you to our guide Haji, who makes the tour funnier. At least we booked Josani tour and Prison Island together. We are also thankful to our guide Mohamed Amigo who sings songs with us and makes our way to Prison Island very funny. We enjoyed it.Also the Driver (Suwwid and Mudi) of this Organisation were very careful with us and gave aditionally Information about everyday life of the Population.Thank you Colors of Zanzibar for making our vacation wonderful.

Where is the ten-Stars-Button? everything was perfect! Although we booked quite spontaneously, the communication was easy via WhatsApp, guide and driver were on time and they were very cooperative according to our whishes! we booked three trips - first the Full Day CRUISE Tour and the next day a combination of jozani Forrest and Spice Tour. Both days where a great experience and we enjoyed every single moment! we were surprised that private means private :) we were the only two and therefore everything was hakuna matata :) We fell in love with our guide Muhammed! He was nice, patient, polite, charming and answered any question we had! thanks a lot to Muhammend and Colors of Zanzibar!! and for u people out there: dont look for another agency - youve found the right one!!!

The spice tour .... Just very interesting as a visit if you like plants and spices. A guide will make you discover them in their natural environment. You can taste it and see how it grows. Vanilla pepper nutmeg cloud of cloves ... And many others. At the end of the route you can buy spices. You will find the same at the market and at a lower price but hey it makes the activity related to the visit work. You can like or rate the comment if it helped or pleased you. Thank you and enjoy your visit

I highly recommend! We booked excursions by email before our trip. It was easy to do business in Finnish. In addition to our customized tour packages, there were other great tips from Zanzibar. The excursions were really good, good guide, calm driver. Price quality ratio very good.

I highly recommend. We arranged transfers from the airport to the hotels and back to the airport via the colors of Zanzibar as well as a village trip to Nungwilla and a Prison Island trip from stone town, everything went smoothly, no complaints. The guides were also great. Reliable company, responded to email inquiries quickly.
