We tried a Zanzibar pizza and it was great, definitely nothing similar to the Italian one.We also tried a shawarma and it was alright, not the best one but not bad.Somehow my opinion is mitigated.I believe it was maybe a great night food market but now it’s just very touristy.Prices are definitely higher than what they should be and for the quality of food you have.People are always trying to bring you to their food stall as well, even if you are sitting and trying to enjoy the food you just bought, which is actually annoying as you cannot just enjoy the food but have to say no / tell you’ll think about it.
A lovely outdoor space for nighttime. Sitting by the beach under the cool weather was a good experience. One finds food stalls of seafood, wraps, local delicacies and fruits. Just remember to ask for food prices before ordering. Its common to find entertainers too dancing or just performing other shows. There are also shops selling handiworks and crafts like clothing items and jewelry.
An excellent way for a community to come and stay together is beautifully displayed in their sharing of a meal and spending quality time with each other. A lot of activity, very well attended and its right by the Indian Ocean. I got to sample quite a bit of different foods and fairly priced. Great way to spend an evening!!
Many many many sea food at this place lot of food if you are like me you like eating eating you will enjoy the life truly i tell you my friend. Your trip to Zanzibar is not complete without visiting Forodhani. Lots of food stalls by the ocean serving fresh local Zanzibari fast food. The service is fast. The people are super friendly. The price is very reasonable. The entire place is kept fairly clean. The stalls are nicely organized. The food tastes delicious. One should try out small portions of different varieties.
As the sun sets across the Indian ocean, the food court is alive with people and action. Meandering around all the stands, the Shawarma and Zanzibar Pizza are just calling your name. Getting a shawarma, sitting down and biting into the deliciousness is so ideal. The aesthetic of the evening and the atmosphere makes for an incredible time. A cup of sweet sugarcane juice and sitting by the ocean is a perfect ending to the day
This is favorite place in Zanzibar, especially at night, viewing locals doing cliff jumping and flips its thrilling, safe sea food. If you love talking to locals who are practicing their language is best place to get friends.
Best seafood experience in Stone Town and Zanzibar altogether. The range of variety available in this open stall market was amazing. And it was cheap, compared to what restaurants would offer. Tasty and fresh, this is a cultural phenomenon not to miss. The night market bustles with everyone trying to sell their wares. Shawarma and local pizzas with sugarcane juice were also on display. Do NOT miss this experience. You wont regret it
Its a good place to eat sea food , chicken, beef also Zanzibar pizza is one of the famous dish , shawarma also good , vegetable dishes also available so as juices of different kind. However if u get tempted and if u dont ask price your bill can come very big . Big then the food bill in decent restaurant . Prices are expensive for food stuff... However hygiene is good. Environment is very nice as it is on the corner of of the sea side...nice heavy breeze is coming.. massive clean sea water u can see.. near by shops for buying locally made cloths , wood structures , Capetown fish market is one of the decent restaurant some how made in the sea .. nice view of sun set. Nice sitting arrangement for sitting and enjoying beautiful view of city center on zanzibar. Normally it is operating from evening till late nights... U shall see always crowded with tourists ... Always love to visit if I am in Zanzibar.. ancient fort is just back side of this area... Some tourist attractions are near by on walking distance so as plenty of hotels and restaurents so as tanzanite jewelery shops near by. From here boats are going to prison island....also ferry boats are coming from Pemba island so as from dar es salaam . Azam ferry and zan ferries boats are dropping here tourists who are coming from dar es salaam which is 1.30 minutes journey... Also port activities are happening near by .
The prices are ridiculously high if youre obviously not local, I dont know if you can haggle down but I was so irritated by the aggressive atmosphere that I just wanted to get my food and get away. You absolutely cannot walk anywhere near the stalls without being accosted, its just not my vibe, some people love the energy I guess. I enjoyed sitting in the park and watching kids play more than the food, by far.
Its overcrowded market with variety of meat, sea food, shwarma, zanzibari mix, sugarcane juice and many more. But it lacks hygiene and seating arrangements.Beware of fraud food sellers as the food is overpriced. Sometimes you will buy food, for a moment to gain your trust they will say pay after eating the food and once you finish they will take double money or will just fool by saying you took this and that. But its best evening place with cheerful crowd, local music and dont miss the jumping spot.
Very popular food vender place in zanzibar...it has got huge varieties of meat dishes (mishkaki) from rabit, duck, chicken, beef and sea food. shawarma and a variety of drinks with a million flavours.it nice to be there and the sea view adds to the mixture off everything that happens during the evening time. nice place for a date
Only Alibaba shawerma was good and Mr mango pizzaAnd those were the only honest ones , the rest are full of scams.Make sure to only eat hot food to avoid food poisoning
Unique atmosphere and good vibes… then you buy a meat skewer and the tourist trap is set. They don’t tell you the exact price and wait till you start to eat so you have to pay an overpriced amount of money for some piece of meat with French fries :) Beginner travellers should watch out, however it is worth a visit as the whole city is there.
The night market was small and most of the food stalls sell the same food. The market is filled with touts.Fair warning: many of the stalls are not hygienic. If you can, ask them to make you fresh and new food rather than picking one that’s already cooked.+ there’s a lot of local kids hanging in the area. I went during sunset and got a free pier jumping show!
I would definitely recommend the Zanzibar Pizza, ana I am Italian so you can imagine how good it is(and of course it has nothing to do with Pizza)
Great food, sample of the nice families who are a bit shy but just smile and let them practice their English! Beware there is a little markup in price if someone brings you. Ive learned that as a solo female-although a Grandma, just be a little more aware when some of the guys say jambo Times are changing, and this IS a touristy place at night. Just enjoy the genuine families and dont forget- the young boys who risk their safety each night as they daringly jump from the wall, depending on the tides. Great photography!!
The location is great, the food is not always fresh. Prices exclusively for tourists.
Dont miss a visit here if you have a night in Zanzibar City/Stone Town even if youre not eating. Its a great peer into local love at night. People trying to sell to foreigners can be aggressive so prepare to be patient and negotiate. You may well be better served to choose somewhere with stated prices on the menu or from someone not trying so hard to make a sale. Make sure to try the Zanzibar Pizza.
It looks nice, but of course you will be asked for too much money looking like a foreigner. The food is often not that fresh. What I enjoyed the most were the shawarma stalls, one near a cafe at forodhani Park in front of the sea and the other one I think is called Ali baba. The people working at the shawarma stalls were also very friendly.
This place is simply amazing. Zanzibar pizza is one of the best parts. Every night this was the place to have dinner with sugar cane juice. If your ever in Stone town make it a point to always walk to the pizza stalls and buy Zanzibar pizza and then mix it up a-bit with calamari and then you won’t forget Stone town. Amazing people and safe place. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Maybe my favourite experience in Zanzibar was walking through the food stalls. Zanzibar probably has the best street food of any place in East Africa, and as long as you use judgement on whats safe to eat and what isnt (some people have had bad stories of eating here) you can have an amazing time. For the full experience wash down you Urojo (Zanzibar Mix - a sort of soup stew of broth, potatoes, egg, meat, and other assorted items) and Zanzibar Pizza (dough wrapped around vegetables, cheese, and meat/seafood traditionally, though you have lots of control at most stalls over what goes in) with some Stoney Tangawizi - an African ginger beer.Pro tips:- you can come right before sunrise to enjoy some food (not anywhere near as much as at night but still quite a decent selection) while staying safe with the sun still above the horizon. Also, for great Zanzibar Pizza, go to Mr. Mango - his prices are great and his pizza is even better!- I suggest the mushroom, cheese and vegetables pizza for fellow vegetarians. The Urojo can also, at certain stalls, be vegetarian upon request.- for the safest food, eat at the stalls the locals eat at! The popular stalls are likely the tastiest and cheapest.- Foreigner pricing can occur here, so its best to ask locals eating the food you want to eat how much they paid, or else go to stalls with written pricing.- Dont let the cooking of your food go unsupervised! This way they wont cut corners on fresh ingredients, and if you pay enough attention, you may even be able to replicate the food back home. This does not apply to Urojo which is always made before you come.
I would just like to ask everyone to be extra cautious with what is happening at the Forodhani market at night. This is an open-air food market right in front of the Old Fort and right by the sea which operates from 18:00 to 23:00. There have been several incidents where sellers tried to charge tourists with crazy amounts of money, so you should ALWAYS ASK FOR THE PRICELIST BEFORE YOU TALK TO THEM FURTHER. Each bench has a pricelist but they hide it under the table so that they can charge you whatever they want. They will try to put a plastic plate on your hands and then put staff on it, and then they will say ok let me warm them up for you and in no time you have already ordered without you even noticing. Then they bring you back the plate and they ask you to pay an enormous amount of money. So, be careful: DONT EVEN TALK TO THEM UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOOK AT THE PRICELIST. The prices you will see there are still high comparing to the rest of the island, but then it will be up to you whether to buy something or not.
Vibe location, must visit, food seems great, haven’t tried though 😂😅Love the place and ppl
Very interesting experience not to miss on stone town. The energy of the place is incredible. Every day tens of local street food stalls appear on the street and offer a variety of fresh grilled fish, shawarma and vegetarian options.I strongly encourage to go have a look even if you don’t want to eat. It’s worthy experience.
It is very popular public and family park in Town. Clean air and stunning scenery are some of the outstanding features of the park.. Parking for motor vehicles is challenging, though.
Street food at its best. All type of BBQ you will find in Forodhani. Just be careful that you dont get food poisoning.
Does feel very touristy and vendors are very pushy. I also had my worst overpriced meal in a long time here
Average of 15$ per head is more than enough to taste a variety of options available. Sea food lovers heaven corner right here.
You have to come here and enjoy the street food of Zanzibar. They need to do a better job at keeping it clean. I saw people cutting food with their bear hands after they had handled bills. With a little more hygiene this place would be awesome!!
Very nice place with beach and variety of foods especially sea food 😋 nest visit this place when youre in Zanzibar located near Ngome kongwee
Seafood was unreasonably expensive. US$10 per tiny skew of 4 prawns is unrealistic.
We love street food, so this place was perfect for us. It gets a bit tiring to be constantly hounded by hawkers. As we often do, we ended up at the places where they left us alone. We had kabobs and shawarma and enjoyed them thoroughly.
The Zanzibar night life is spectacular. Various food vendors spread their delicious delicacies that are both pleasing to the eyes and to the taste buds. There are delicious fruit juices that are made on order. Its a great combination of good food and refreshing juices under the beautiful night stars next to the Indian Ocean shores. Its located in Zanzibars capital Stone Town and very close to the ferry. Its Open everynight, everyday of the year.
Personally didnt like the food much. Some may enjoy it more than others. Always look around and ask for pricing before you jump in. Some stalls will rip you off if you order without knowing the pricing. Worth an experience if you have never been.
This is a huge tourist trap in Zanzibar, for 4 meat sticks we paid 75 000 TZS….
This place is good if you want a local feel of what Zanzibar is about , itHas local foods and juices sold at cheaper prices and the market is only at night . I definitely recommend you try the sugar cane juice as well as the mango juice both freshly squeezed!
Review for the outdoor evening food market. My BBQ skewers were very average. Arrived cold and too salty. In addition I felt the pricing was not competitive and the overall experience was suboptimal: crowded, no comfortable seating and dark. And of course no beer, only overly sweetened juices. Not sure what the name was of our stall, but they all looked very generic and had the same offerings and concept.
Enjoying local bbq, sugar cane juice, watching kids jump in the sea, looking at a live fashion show of all the ladies pass by in their best outfits...listening to music from cape town fish market, watching kids celebrate their birthdays in the park, a busy kids entertainment park, 3 kiosks ...that is foro cafe, zenj cafe and meeting point cafe in between 6 old portuguese canons pointing to the sea!!! Behind is the Beit el Ajaib besides the Portuguese/ Arab Old fort
Its a nice place to eat some delicacies at night. During the day its more of a park, not much is going on.It all goes down from the evenings, with some people doing dive stunts into the ocean. However be warned; it get super jam packed on public holidays and sometimes in regular weekends too.But the liveliness is entertaining.
Lively vibe, friendly locals, delicious foods. Go there every night and experience something different.
It a good place where you can go and have fun. Theres variety of delicious foods, including local Zanzibar food.
Open at night and so many food stalls I couldn’t count them. Same issue as almost anywhere - stall owner don’t accept a “no thank you”Very lively place!
Very good atmosphere, you get what you want specially the zanzibari pizza. Its fresh and made in front of you and special there. Must try!!
The place is good, but a bit expensiveAnd some other sellers have food that are not fresh
Street food at its best 😋Great food u get to explore different stalls its a great for both dining and exploring
Beautiful ambience, well priced food and an amazing zanzibar experience. Well worth the trip 👌
Its a good place to explore more sea food and Swahili cuisine but a bit too pricey for locals
There are many different kinds of good sea food & nice enviloment
Very nice place and delicious food at all 💋💋💋💋💋💋
Best food in the world must go place while in zanzibar
TOURIST TRAP! Stay away from the seafood bbq stalls and ask the price before ordering anything. One tourist couple from Germany got a bill of 110000 shillings (around 50€) for 2 octopus, 2 beef and 3 prawn grills. Ridiculous.
I really love Zanzibar!!This place is really nice because of the mouthwatering, delicious, food 🌺
Was very nice place, good experience and lovely food
Nice for local food in zanzibar
I love Goin there and getting food from there... If you really want a Zanzibari experience its a place not to miss
Forodhani food stalls inside the forodhani gardens, this garden is infront of the house of wonders and the old fort, the garden is a verry nice place to visit at night the wind from the sea is verry wonderful and relaxing here you can get all kinds of foods here like Shawarma, zanzibar pizza, urojo mix, mishkaki, theese all are the foods you want to try. Just make sure you buy fresh food, also you can buy freshly squeezed shugarcan juce or all other kinds of drinks and if you want to get better class food go to the floating restaurant which is also located in the forodhani gardens. Sit relax eat and let all the stresses flow out when you are in the forodhani gardens.
Diff zanzibar street food u will find it here. From sugarcan to sea food to urojo( zanzibar mix)
Mmmmmh, am Tanzaniana but the best olace i visit is zanzibar forodhan at night ther is all kind of good, inorder as street food, first time eaten shawarma
Loved the food. Shawarma, mshikaki, the juices..delicious
Tasty shawarma and local dishes. Nice spot to grab a bite
Forodhani Food Stalls is one of the best places I have ever visited. It has plenty of sea foods, well prepared and very delicious. All you need is enough money. 😃
