I enjoyed this tour immensely. Being a nature (and a food) lover, it was eye-opening to see where many of the spices used in my favorite foods come from. It was interesting to see various products produced by the local people. Since the proceeds from entrance fees, spices and other products benefit the local residents, I didnt mind at all purchasing some of these. When I told them that I wasnt interested in a particular offering, I was happy that there was no pressure or hard-sell. As to the tips, perhaps one hint- along the route I told them that I didnt have any small money and that I would leave their tip with the guide at the end of the tour. Then I gave the guide TZS 20,000/- (about $10) at the end of the tour... as promised... to divide among the others.
Very nice people. Exploited by locals. We got a lot of gifts but it is expected to tip everyone you meet, which end up costing us 50 USD. The spices that were being sold there were the cheapest I have seen in whole Zanzibar.
Great place to learn about different spices ..how they are grown...we were given fresh fruits and free lunch cooked in spices grown there.

Good place to be.
Insanely interesting. Very nice people, who proudly present what there is to discover. As a European, you stand there in astonishment and can see and try spices that are otherwise only known in bags, live on bushes, shrubs or trees. Many thanks to Tyson and his colleagues. It was a pleasure to get to know you and to watch you at work. The crowning glory was the singing coconut picker and the lovingly knitted headwear and accessories. An unforgettable experience.
