Rented a Suzuki for a week and had an overall very good experience. The vehicle was delivered to my hotel on time with my driving permit and was met at the airport on time for return. Mr. Ahmed was always available to address any issues on WhatsApp regarding the vehicle and permits/pick-up/drop-off. Booking/payment was seamlessly processed through the website. The vehicle was well maintained. Overall, I would absolutely recommend renting from Zanzibar Best Car Rental. You can definitely see more and do more on your trip if you rent a car rather than relying on a taxi.

I am very happy with my experience renting from Mr Ahmed. Last month was the second time that I hired a vehicle from him and Ill definitely rent from him again when I next return. I rented a Rav4 for 2 weeks in December and Mr Ahmed did a great job. My vehicle was waiting with my driving permit on arrival at the airport and our vehicle was very well suited to the roads in Zanibar.

Without a doubt the best car rental company in Zanzibar! They waited for me at the airport with the car and my Zanzibar driving license, which I lost during my stay and it was remade in barely 24 hours that saved me a lot of problem during a police check. The car that I had was very well a 4x4 Toyota rav 4 very well maintained and which brought me back to the most remote corners of the island without any worries. Ahmed is a very nice and friendly person, helpful and willing to please the client. I booked twice with him because of a 3 days break on the mainland. Uppon return, I then decided that I couldnt be bothered with driving for the last days of my holiday. He offered in exchange for the rental money I paid to be our private cab driver ant took us anywhere we needed, waited for us at the COVID test centre, or when visiting a spice farm, etc... with no extra charge.The cars are clean and in good condition.I will srogly recommend them to anyone going to Zanzibar.

Good service. I wrote on line to make reservation, but had issues with on line payment. Reservation was confirmed immediately, very smooth and fast communication. Company is also dealing with the local driving permit required in Zanzibar (please do it, since traffic police will stop you many many times to check it). Very very veryyyy satisfied!! We hired a car for the week and when we arrived they had everything prepared for our Zanzibarian drivers license. The communication was very easy, quick and good. When we drove to the south the bumpy road caused us a flat tire. The company offered us to send a driver to pick us up and change the car. We were in the middle of nowhere and decided to change the tire by ourselves. Some locals helped us and all the equipment needed was available in the car. By the time we drove back to stonetown a new car (even better) was ready for us. The services are amazing! The people are very nice and we recommend this company for sure. 10 stars !!!

The car was very good, the service great and the communication with the owner always pleasant.When I returned the car I had forgotten my drivers license in the glove box and only noticed it when I was back in Dar es Salaam. If you want to rent a car in Zanzibar you need to rent it from this company. We rented the car for 7 days and the service was impeccable. Right on time when we arrived from Amsterdam, nice car with good ac and great to drive. When we returned the car we had to change the tire before we left to go the airport. Somebody (probably) had emptied the tire and helped us to put on the spare tire. When we arrived a bit stressed at the aiport, they were so relaxed and nice. They said that this sometimes happens, and were relaxed about it. So nice, we highly recommend this company!

Ahmed picked us up at the airport with the car and allowed us to drop it off whenever we were ready.A few things to note:1) Don’t be surprised when your car rental is old & beat up — all the rentals on the island are at least 10-15 years old.2) You will need to pay an extra $10 for a Zanzibar driving permit. All car rental places I researched said you need this.3) When Ahmed meets you at the airport, other people will come up with him. They are not with him. They will try to take your luggage and carry it for 10 feet, and will then ask for a tip. Don’t give them your luggage. Ignore them or tell them “no thank you.”

Amazing Service.!!! You will need a car in Zanzibar and AHMED is the man. I sent Ahmed an email requesting a reliable car and even told him how much I want to pay per day. Within 20 minutes I got a reply with everything I needed to know. Everything was perfect. I needed a car for 6 people and took the Toyota Landcruiser. Ahmed and his colleague took us from the ferry for free and brought us to our hotel. Two days later we received the car like confirmed. The handling over is very easy and fast. You dont have to pay a deposit. So after 10 days using the car to discover Zanzibar we could hand over the car direct at the ferry. From my side 5stars....everything absolutely perfect. If I come one more time I will go again with Ahmed and his team.

We rented Toyota Noah (6person) for 3 days. Auto provided us to the owner Ahmed to the hotel. He is a very friendly and communicative person. Rented a little suzuki for a week, Mr Ahmed and his brother were great at organising for us, and the car was perfect for getting around the island.For those worried about the police stopping you etc, in the week we were there we had no issues at all, and when we did get stopped at checkpoints the police were friendly, and let us get on our way. Seamless, uncomplicated, courteous and kind.This was most likely the simplest and easiest car rental we have ever had, and we have rented pretty much at every corner of the globe. Ahmed was there at the time our flight landed with the Zanzibari permit, we signed the rental literally against the back of the car, keys in hand and off we went to the beach.Same easygoing procedure upon returning the car days later, after which Ahmed drove us to our Stone Town hotel.We agreed on all details via email, I even posted the driving license photo for the Zanzibari permit in the same manner two days before arrival.Cannot recommend highly enough.

We decided rather last minute to hire a car in Zanzibar, 4 days before arrival and contacted Ahmed via the website. Mr. Ahmed & Zanzibar Best Car Rental-Their name says it all!!!I had researched car rental a few days prior to coming. I emailed Mr. Ahmed and he immediately responded. He provided me with his Whats App Im and we immediately booked the vehicle!We arrived at the airport and it took us about an hour or so to get our visas and through customs and as soon as we walked out, there was a staff member of his standing waiting with my name.The car was ready to go, his staff wrote up our contracts and provided us with our permits, he also told us where to get cash exchange, that offered full rate right on the grounds. The car comes empty so we filled up which lasted us 2 trips to Stone Town, to our resort to Jambiani and to Nungwi and back. We purchased a little more in on the way back from the north although wewe would made it but I want to take any chances. In total we spent about $60 usd for one weeks worth of travel.The pricing was accurate and he accepted cash at time of delivery. The permits are $10 per person driving and only require a license.The quality of vehicle was great, although older as expected, it ran very well through the unpaved and muddy roads.Mr. Ahmed texted me a few hours before our departure from the airport and was available for our very early 3am flight!!!Mr. Ahmed was very personal, warm and professional and will provide you with amazing service!!!

I was leading a group of 16 people and we rented 3 cars with them. When we got to te airport we were told that Zanzibar run out of petrol and we could not have the cars. They were negotiating professionally with me to find a solution and not to ruin our holidays. So this guys took us all around Zanzibar in 2 minibuses. It wasnt as planned, but they were open to find a solution, keeping the price. If they are called best car rental, it is because they are better than a lot of other companies just thinking about getting your money offering a bad service. Very honest people, hope to be able to work with them again.

A smooth and easy process of booking, arranging driving permit, delivery of vehicle to our hotel and meeting to collect on return to airport. Mr Ahmeds communication was quick and helpful, the car (Rav) was in great condition for its mileage and simple to drive. Advice to tourists though is make sure to bring driving permit and own driving licence out with you - especially if heading to Nungwi, and stick to the few main roads as it can get off road rather quickly, dont always trust google maps!

Its not like with the big rental companies in Europe or the US but it works just fine! Mr Ahmed was highly responsive to mails and WhatsApp, we booked our Suzuki Escudo fully insured and in a - considering the standards on the island - road-worthy condition just one week ahead, delivered right to the airport and got a fair deal, including the obligatory Zanzibars driving licenses which are for whatever mysterious reason necessary in addition to your national and international license. The car - even though tortured for 180.000 kilometres on the worst roads you can even imagine - was in relatively good condition, reliable and well equipped. Be extremely careful though both day and night and do consider to get a driver if you are not comfortable with traffic in other parts of the world - roads are bumpy, sometimes they just dont exist, goats, cows and sheep are everywhere, the diving habits of the Zanzibaris seems highly dangerous and sometimes just plain crazy to a European driver, especially in the nights, where some cars, trucks, bikes or scooters use no light also in the countryside, people walk at both sides of the road almost completely invisible until theyre very close and heavy rain can intensify the experience even more as you have to cross lakes where there have been streets before. We returned the car after around 600 kilometres to Mr Ahmeds younger brother as agreed upon one day before by mail, even though we have no idea how he did find us on the packed parking space at ZNZ airport...

Great experience with mr Thani. Agreed everything over whatsapp and he finished foreigner driving permit for me. He waited for us on the airport were we picked up the car and at the same place we returned the car. We were driving the car for 14 days without any issues. Every police check went smoothly. This rental offers great prices so I would definitely recommend them since you do not need better car or more expensive for roads on zanzibar.

Renter meets you at airport even at 4:00 am. Our car had a blue film on a windscreen... maybe even 3 times as much as needed but that’s a true Zanzibar styled car. Vehicle was clean and without technical issues.

We rented out a car with driver - Achmed, our driver was very flexible with time and helpful in organising trips. He would also be proactive in suggesting things we could do. The one thing we did not like was the fact that on the second to last day our driver suddenly got out the car and another bloke came in and we were told he was our new driver. At first sight, the car seemed to me a little bit old with torn driving mechanism. Yet we understood that it is inevitable in poor infrusture of the Zanzibar. We were met at the airport at the arranged time with a serviceable vehicle and guided out of the city by Peter to get on the correct road to Nungwi. Busy streets and unfamiliar RH drive does present challenges so do be sure to download offline google maps for the area as there are few to no road signs.
