Katavi Region covers an area of ​​47,527 square kilometers and was officially announced on March 01, 2012 by the governments decision to establish four new Regions (Katavi, Njombe, Simiyu and Geita) with the aim of moving administrative and Ki- services. economy for its citizens and was officially launched on 25/11/2012 by Mr. Gharib Bilal, retired Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania.1.2 Regional Boundaries and LocationThe region is located in western Tanzania between Latitude 40 and 80 south of the equator and Longitude 300 to 330 east of the Greenwich line. Its boundaries are as follows:North borders Urambo and Kaliua Districts (Tabora)East borders Sikonge District (Tabora)North East is bordered by Chunya District (Mbeya)South borders Nkansi Nkansi District (Rukwa)South East it borders Sumbawanga District (Rukwa)West borders the Republic of the Democratic Republic of Congo.Northwest is bordered by Kigoma Region1.3 PopulationAccording to the 2012 Population and Housing Census, the Region has a total population of 564,604, of which 289,817 are women and 274,787 are men. The average per household is 6 people and the gender ratio is 98 percent. In addition, population growth is 3.2 percent per year. In 2016 the Region is estimated to have a total population of 649,837 32 females 327,934 and 321,903 males. Of that number, the workforce is 157,248 between the ages of 15 and 64.1.4 Geographical StatusThe region lies between an average of 1000 to 2500 meters above sea level. Temperatures I range from 130c to 160c in June and July and 260c to 300c in September to November. On average, it receives between 700 and 1300 mm of rainfall between November and April. The region is divided into 4 climatic zones which are the Lake Rukwa Basin, the Katumba-Inyonga Mound, the Mwese Highlands and the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
