Mkoani seaport is located at south of Pemba island in Zanzibar. Zanzibar is the union of two large islands namely Pemba and unguja. The mkoani seaport is used for both passengers and cargo vessels. And one of the most popular seaport in Pemba. It provides immigration services, customs services and tickets services for going tanga, dar es sallam and Zanzibar (unguja).

Pembas main port is at Mkoani, at the southern end of the island. All ferries to/from Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam dock here. Most reliable are the Sealink roll-on, roll-off car and passenger ferries, operated by Azam Marine.On Pemba, tickets can be purchased at Azam Marines office at the port in Mkoani, as well as at various travel agents in Chake Chake and Wete.Another option is the government-operated Mapinduzi ferry, which goes twice weekly in each direction between Pemba and Zanzibar. The fare is US$25, but the service is slow and unreliable.Dhows sail between Wete (in the northwest of Pemba) and Tanga and Mombasa, but foreigners are prohibited.If you come by boat from Zanzibar Island, mainland Tanzania or Kenya, youll need to go to the immigration office at the port to get your passport and visa checked.MKOANI Mkoani is the smallest of Pembas three main towns, but the passenger-boat services linking it to Zanzibar Town and the mainland make the port the busiest and most important on the island.Any time a boat is docking or leaving theres a buzz in the air, and perhaps the opportunity to watch boats being loaded with cloves for Zanzibar, but for the rest of the time Mkoani is very quiet and sleepy.Although a few businesses are located near the port, and the market is just along the coast, the main town of Mkoani is up the hill towards Chake Chake.
