Lush green forest and all the red Colubus you could hope! It was a bit crowded so be prepared to be in a larger group, but it was still worth it. We loved our guide and all he said about life. He was so knowledgeable on medicinal herbs which was cool as a doctor. The mangroves were amazing too and a wonder to behold
Nice thing to do when you are in Zanzibar. You dont need a tour operator for this one. Just drive up there (or get dropped off) and pay the entrance fee (24 dollar for 2 persons). You get a pricate guide as well. You do 3 things:- go to see the monkeys, which was adorable!we saw a lot of them- walk through the forest- walk through the mangroveThe tour lasted about 1H
If visiting Zanzibar, it is well worth the time spent walking through the forest. The vast array of plants and vegetation is quite remarkable. Also land crabs and huge snails. The guide was very knowledgeable with loads of information. We also saw the Zanzibar Red Colobos monkeys. Colobos refers to the fact that they only have four fingers on the forearm and no thumb. They are quite lazy and dont move much. The forest is quite humid so take some water as you will be sweating.
Its a short but interesting tour. The monkeys are left in their natural habitat and there are restrictions placed on how much humans can interact with them, which is admirable. Walking through the forest is fun too. Advice - wear sensible shoes and have fun!
Nice forest. Good place to visit. Entrance fees 12$ per person. While you arrive you will have local guide who can show you around and give explanation about everything. Monkeys are cute, and you can see them very close to your hand, they are not aggressive at all. No need to be care of your staff or afraid of wallet. Highly recommend.
We took the standard guided tour of about 1,5 hours in forest and about an hour on boardwalk in Mangrove. We did get to see the monkeys as well. Very close to the trail, you could almost touch them, they seemed used to people even though there is a strict policy of not feeding them. I have planned a follow up hike to go deeper into the jungle and get away from the masses. Its a wonderful place worthwhile visiting.
Fantastic place with rare monkeys and trees. The forest itself is a cool place to wander about, but what makes it very special is red colobus monkeys who live here. These monkeys are in danger of extinction, their number in the world is only about 4000, 3000 of which live here. Dont touch them or feed them! Preserve the wild nature
Great place if you want to see monkeys in the wild nature. Theres a mess when you buy tickets and wait for the guide but its not something unusual in Zanzibar. You cannot enter the forest without guide and touching the monkeys is prohibited (but they can touch you). I like wild nature so I definitely recommend this place. Theres also a great mangrove forest where you can rest and take nice pictures.
Great experience! Our guide was excellent and filled with so much wisdom about local plants and everything in the forest. It was such an awesome experience, would definitely recommend!
A nice trip through the tropical forest. Ticket (25 k TSh / 12 $) includes entrance fee, guide services and walk through three areas. First is the small forest near the ticket office, where you can see monkeys. Then you enter bigger forest and can see some known trees, like mahogany or eucalyptus. The third part, mangrove forest, of the trip requires you to either walk 2-3 km or take a car (your own or rent something at the parking lot, they charged us 3$ pp). It was my favorite part of the trip, a stroll on the bridges over the roots of trees growing in water. Altogether, trip is an interesting alternative to the beach activities, although do not expect wonders. You just spend 1-2 hours in the forest and learn basics about it and take nice pictures of monkeys. You can get there by taxi or local bus. I recommend the bus, it costs 1k TSh from Paje (any bus that goes to stone town is fine).
A Must Visit -!!Plesant experience. On our trip it started to rain heavily and we were drenched, but in that it was very adventurous. The guide was very well informed
Really unique place which is worth to visit. Youll learn about the national park, trees they grow there. Also youll get the chance to see the monkeys (Red Collubus and black monkey). Make sure you end the trip in mangrove forest. Our guide (Jamis) was very knowledgeable and provide us with a lot of information, Asante.
Jozan forestThe tour guides are well trained to give out all the needed information, and sometimes you can find them there at the Jozani Office or you can come with from the place they booked your tour from, ie. Stone town, Nungwi or else were in Zanzibar, but i prefer the one i meat on the sports cos they have more knowledge and experience since that place needs someone who is more expert and got more experience to give more informations and activities going on from there, i would suggest you take the tour guides man from their office for more information, the good time to go and visit its morning from 10am time before you find jam of people and monkeys are still fresh and okey still to have fun with you. (Red Monkey), Blue monkeys are stubborn.Apart away from Monkey you will have a chance to pass through huge and quite forest, there is a local restaurant where you can relax and order your coffee and other drinks.after getting out the main get there is local Mama and Dada selling some fresh fruits like Banana, Mangoes and so on.The place is beautiful, and you will have much fun being here, taking pictures with Red monkeys, Walking in the middle of the jungle.Precautions:-But dont go with bear foot, its not safe and you wont be allowed since there is some reefs a long the way that can hurt you in one way or another, its better to have closed shoes for your safety,Also dont come with any of the food material expecting to give monkeys its not allowed to feed the monkey, you might fall into penalty and take you out of your mood.
Didnt see lots of animals. Lots of plant nature which was beautiful. Hired a local guide to take us through the forest. We mostly got to see the endagered Zanzibar red Columbus monkeys which are easily found in this park, sea turtles and we walked on the beautiful 1km boardwalk through the mangrove swamps. There is an information area were you can learn about the history of the park, pick some informational brochures and hire yourself a tour guide.
Great experience to see both the scenic forests of Zanzibar as well as the local indigenous animal life. Most people just go to see the monkeys, which are amazing, but the rest of the forest is breathtaking as well. If possible, organize this with a guide so that you get the full experience of both the forest as well as the Mangrove trees.
Speechless by this beautiful place!! It was amazing to see the Monkeys in there natural habitats and walking through the Bush was so refreshing but the Mangroves will leave u Speechless! Amazing informative tour guides very friendly staff and there are places there for a quick bite and beverages.#DeelishishnessTravels
Nice 1h30 family visit through the forest and mangrove with a local guide. It is well organised. The guide talked about trees and showed us endemic monkeys. Not so amazing but the fee participate to the conservation of the environment. What we didn’t like: at the end of the tour, the guide asked for a tip and was waiting for it!
It is the only national park in Zanzibar with beautiful landscapes. In addition , is the place where the red monkey (unique, only found in Zanzibar) lives + the velvet monkey. So it is a highly recommended walk around discovering the fauna and vegetation of the island!
The forest and envirolent are amaizing. You can see red colobus, great ants, and other animals. The visit takes 2 hours as maximum, and the mangroove trip us quite short. Also the national park officer ask us to tell that from now the payments has to be in advance in a bank account. In a few they are not going to accept cash. I told them that they should put in the website (I dont know if they did)Anyway is a great visit.
Unique place to see!! not so massive big area but it gonna be good advantage to see the red colombus monkeys in natural land. Entrance fee is 15.000 Ths per person. 1 hour will be enouh for whole trip in there
The Jozani rainforest is definitely worth a visit, it takes about 30 min. To drive from Stone Town. The rainforest has a unique population of Columbus monkeys, and you can get close to them without being bothered. They behave as if they were not present at all. There are also lots of other exciting animals from grasshoppers who have lost the ability to fly, to colorful lizards and of course birds.
As a nature lover, I loved the forests and the monkeys. The guides were quite knowledgeable and I heard them explaining details of the forest in a number of different languages. I liked the idea that a percentage of the proceeds from the park fees go to help the local community. Why shouldnt the locals benefit from tourism? As a resident of Tanzania, I see all too often the tourist dollars being funneled outside of the country with a minimal amount of benefit reaching the local residents. The park fee subsidizes local farmers and damage to their crops caused by allowing the monkeys to stay in their locality. Please be advised that there are signs posted on the highway prohibiting photographing the monkeys without paying the park fee. Do not risk losing your camera. This is a government law. Some might feel offended by this... feeling that their freedom is being restricted. They usually just want something for nothing. Be happy as you share in the conservation efforts of Jozani Forest.
Small jungle, worth seeing. Guide is obligatory. The red monkies are used to people and it is possible to see them at a very short distance 🐒🐒🐒
Jungle walk to watch Zanzibar red colobus, a species of red colobus monkey. On your way in the forest, you get to see different kind of trees. Additionally, a walk on the wooden bridge to sight the mangroves grown in salt water. You will get a guide who provides you the information you require. Average place. Red colobus monkeys are found in other places of zanzibar including the reef and beach resort.
One of the finest forest ever seen. Colubus monkeys in their beautiful colors. Entrance fee is $10 USD or 20000 Tanzanian Shillings. Guide provided free of charge but be a gentil and tip them. Photo shots are allowed but feeding monkeys and cutting trees or brunches are not accepted. Beautiful natural forest.
Great experience of seeing the unique Zanzibar monkeys. Mangrove forest is a nice place to walk and relax.
Very experienced and knowledgable guide, included in the entrance fee of 12 USD. The money goes more or less directly to preserve the habitat of the Colobus monkey. A small portion goes to the surrounding villages, to educate and inform about the importance of not cutting down the forest, in order to preserve the biodiversity of forest. The guide knew alot about the symbiotic relationships of the mangrove forest and was very educational. Can varmly reccomend a visit
We visited this national park on the way to the Rock restaurant and it was well worth it. The entrance was 24 dollars for 2 people (12 each) but I didnt mind because it helps preserve this beautiful place. In the price you have a guide who will take your around thus charming forest to visit. The guide was very nice and knowledgeable. We saw few monkey and learned many things about the zanzibar! Must go!
A must for any tourist in Zanzibar. Beautiful forest and we had a great guide giving very insightful information
Good experience but not the best you will pay 12$ per person to see Monkeys and Mangrove trees.
Not worth a visit. Our guide was not giving us any interesting info and we just Saw some red monkeys on a Tree. Thats it
Meet mother nature in Jozani as we breathe in the fresh air and meander through the forest to find the black&white colobus monkeys and the red colobus monkies. Ended our day with a visit to Jozani exploration to the mangroves walking board and it was an exciting experience to my clients and I as well.
Dissapointed but dont try to go by yourself because even tought we read that they provide you with a guide when we arrived There we payed 24 USD for 2 ppl and they laff în our face, somehow some woman took us she showed us The Forest and we got to The place were Red Colombo monkey stay and we only saw 4 monkeys there.
If you enjoy greenery, trees, monkeys and mangroves, Jozani is the place to go to. For residents, it costs 10K Tanzanian Shillings and for tourists it is 25K. You pay at the front desk and then there will be a guide to take you around. Monkeys would be having fun and doing stunts that you can capture. There are some lovely Mahagoni plants in the forest. The second part of the tour is going to see the mangroves in a nearby location. You should have your own vehicle to go from the main part to the other location. I especially like the mangroves bit as it was very local and specific to Tanzania.
Lovely nature, friendly monkeys, smiley knowledgeable local guide...
Best place to have a nice romantic chocolate taste with your babe
Regret coming here. It is quite average imo. The walk in the forest is very short. We had a 15 minutes walk. I guess it depends on your guide and by the review seems like it can last longer. Our guide was knowledgeable but was clearly more interested in his tip (which is fair enough I guess) than guiding. I don’t really mind the 12 usd cost per person, as it can be used to preserve the area, but tipping on top of that is annoying.Anyways, go (by your own means) if you are bored, avoid and skip it if you have better things to do, like chilling on the beach. There is also a mangrove to see.And please don’t pay 40 usd per person with a guided tour for this, it’s not worth it. The 12 usd entrance fee is sufficiently steep if you manage to go on your own.
Great place with lots of monkeys we were so happy
Of you have no experience with forest, might be good. On other hand, do not spend money for it.
Amazing national park and great place to get out of the heat. Only place to naturally find the red columbus monkeys. There is a little café outside, and public restrooms. You have to be accompanied by a guide so cant go for solo walks. Tipping encouraged. Donations for conservation welcomed. Utterly worth it to learn more about Zanzibars fauna and flora as the guides are knowledgeable and experienced in picking out plants and creatures. Would go again.
The overall experience felt a bit touristic for my taste. First, we did a short walk in the forest, then went to see monkeys and finally the mangrove swamp. The last one was my favourite. As the guides work on tips, he didn’t forget to mention me this several times, so it felt a bit awkward. I would maybe recommend for kids or people who haven’t traveled much. I probably would had skipped it.
The guide was lovely! The place is quite overpriced - 25.000 tsh/person/short tour for an hour.We did see the monkeys and some crabs in the mangroves. If you’re bored, go. If not, you may skip. The guides are volunteers (or at least are not getting paid, on the top of that 80% of the entrance fee goes to the government!!) so you need to tip them.
The jozani forest, for me i would like to call it pride of Zanzibar its a small forest located in the main island of zanzibar which is known as Unguja Island the most interesting part of this forest is the monkeys, the red colobus mokeys unlike other colobus monkeys theese ones are red coloured with long hair and a cute face, and the most interesting part is the can only be found here in Zanzibar and no where else... They just need to stay home in order to survive if taken off the island they die... Other countries tried to take these species for adoption but could not survive elsewhere... So that means if u want to see red colobus monkeys u have to be at jozani forest in Zanzibar... Hey even net geo wild channel and animal planet channel once came here to this place to make a documentary about these creatures.....Nevertheless there are other cool things u cab see while u explore the forest u can visit the small animals park in it so u can see turtles or snakes chameleon etc.. Welcome to jozani forest.
We went with our own guide (was pretty brief) do yourselves a favour and wear shoes, mosquito repellent and pants! But not so special
Awesome tour, and lovely monkeys! Must visit when in Zanzibar!
Beautiful Experience. Great tour guide Mosa! Thank you, highly recommended!
Nice forest and lots of monkeys! It is amazing to see them so close with their babies! The mangrove area is also impressive.
A beautiful forest with monkeys unique for zanzibar and a mangrove forest.
The short guided tour was okay, we saw a lot of monkeys! But the guide felt like he wanted to get the tour over with, he talked and walked really fast through the forest (and its not so much of a real forrest, on your tour you pass by village houses and the restaurant)mmagroves are cool to look at too. Guide expects a tip after the tour. He looked a little disappointed at our 5000 TSH tip.
I expected more from the visit. Its nice to see the monkeys anyway. The tour is about 1:15 hours total.
Nice park to exlpore. 1.5-2 hours excursion really expanded my understanding of Zanzibar nature.Special thanks to Omar Khalid Omar - he was our guide: looks like the guy knows everything about every plant there: lots of interesting facts + good English and sence of humor! 👍👍👍 would recommend him as a guide - 5+! )))
