This place was like staying in Eden. I loved waking up to the birds and monkeys. We were so close to Mount Kilimanjaro and we had the perfect view! My husband had the most thrilling time checking off a bucket list item by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro...he was beyond happy and wants to do it again. My cousins did a mountain trek and one did paragliding after being flown to the top of Mt. Kilo. He says hes coming back too!! My best friend and I did a safari and it was a dream come true. So beautiful and we saw every animal on our huge list. We cannot wait to go back. The best part are the prices! You get so much for what you pay for...Best place to stay in Africa hands down!!!! Thank you!!!
Ovepriced for the size of rooms and service considering other hotel options in the area. However, the view of Kilimanjaro and deck next to forest are breathtaking.Also, internet was poor and tours and taxi services offered by the hotel were ridiculously high (while local guides got a fraction of the cost). Better to make booking separately and avoid their middlemen costs.

What an experience. Off the beat and path but well worth the stay. The atmosphere was fantastic. The staff were warm welcoming and patient with my second language no skills. If you get lucky youll get the most amazing photo of Mount Kilimanjaro. Did I mention the staff were fantastic.
I stayed in this lodge a couple days ago and all I can say is that I was very touched and impressed with the way the staff treats their guests.Hitting the big 3, this is the first time someone has ever put it so much effort to celebrate my birthday. From the room decorations down to arranging our private candle lit dinner and then baking a birthday cake few hours before the clock strikes 12am. Wow. This is beyond my expectation.A big thank you to everyone in this lodge for such a memorable stay. Service was impeccable, food was excellent, as mentioned by others in their comments. Room was satisfactory and the terrace was beautiful. It was an extremely comfortable stay, just what we needed after a 7 days safari trip. Would highly recommend this place.
Stylish and modern small boutique hotel. Very quite and relaxing stay. Staff and owner are outstandingly friendly and very service oriented. We also enjoyed the restaurant and bar very much. The Mt Kilimanjaro view from the terrace is incredible and I suppose the best one you can get outside of the park. We also enjoyed a trip to the river and waterfall nearby as well as a visit to a local coffee farm. Airport pickup worked perfectly as well.
This place is actually magical. It is perfectly located facing Mount Kilimanjaro. There are not much shops around the area so bring some supplies if you need to. The lodge offers a fantastic dinner at night. A tip, do bring some cash in case you need to pay for drinks and food. The staff there are also fantastic and really accommodating. I would definitely come back. Thank you
Very beautiful Lodge and excellent stuff. We spent the last night of our trip there and it was wonderful. You can feel the nature and the terrace is amazing. Really peaceful and the manager couple were very very nice with us.Also special thanks to Bianca, who helped us organizing our trip!
We stayed in Kaliwa Lodge before our Kilimanjaro trekking. We loved the beautiful garden and the modern architecture of the place. The German manager takes care of the quest personally and make them feel at home. The rooms are cosy, the staff very nice.A great place to stay!
Kaliwa lodge is a piece of heaven on earth. Full of trees, with breathtaking views of the Kilimanjaro which occasionally shows up. The river weru weru flows right next to this property and provides a soothing effect. Tranquility is what i felt when I was there. The staff are attentive and friendly. They are flexible and accommodating. I highly recommend Kaliwa lodge. I toured the neighborhood of machame and the people are welcoming. The coffee experience at Mama Rose was the winner
Super beautiful place!!!We are waiting for peak for about 2hr but it’s totally worth it!I love this place!And I recommend they are provide walking tour (half day) walk to the valley through the river and waterfall, then go to MamaRosa’s house make coffee and enjoy local food!! So nice and remarkable!!
This place is truly magical. It’s reminded me of of the Jurassic parks movies with all the prehistoric landscapes. From the moment you arrive at this modern eco lodge in the tree canopy you find yourself in a world epic views & misty morning clouds.ROOMSEach room is actually an individual modernist structure that has ample space for two people to stay comfortably with storage space, seating area and a nice sized bathroom with a great hot water shower. They also have natural eco shower gel that had such a beautiful aroma.COMMON AREASThey have a few area but one stands out the most and that is the deck that’s perched on the side of the property overlooking a beautiful river valley with the famous Kilimanjaro in the background that drafts all other things. Its truly a special place with the sound of the river & birds in the background i spend my morning here it was super serene.A communal room with fire place that also doubles as a restaurant for lunch & dinner. They also have outdoor garden space with sun chairs for al fresco dining.SERVICESBreakfast, lunch and dinner can all be served here. They can also organise tours to the national parks, meeting the local community & taking nature walks down into the valley as i did.LOCATIONSet just outside of the national park perched onto of a small river valley set in the rainforest is a place of true serenity where you can take in the sights & sounds of the wonderfully green place.
We came here on the first leg of a trip up kilimanjaro. We were greeted late at night after long delays with the airlines and typical KLM luggage issues. The manager (Thomas) was there to greet us personally and reassured us that he was there to help us as much as possible with our stay. His hospitality extended well beyond the normal duties of a lodge manager, as he assisted us personally in attempting to straighten out our luggage issues.After a long two days of flying we were very exhausted and ready to rest. The luggage issues we faced forced us to stay at this lodge an additional night, which meant an extra day that was not included in our travel package. Being the souls of caution we are, we only pulled out the cash that we were expected to tip our guides and porters for our trek up the mountain, and a small amount of extra cash. The lodge typically only accepts cash and not card, but there was an option to pay with paypal. What genuinely impressed us is that Thomas was more concerned about us than how we would pay, and showed us to our rooms without even having us register or paying. We settled when we left and provided a sizeable tip.While there, the service was first class. I dont have a single complaint about anyone or anything. From the cook to the groundskeeper, the staff is diligent and friendly. The food was very good and consisted of traditional Tanzanian cuisines using locally grown and produced food. There is an observation platform on the far end of the grounds that provide not only a lovely outdoor social setting, but breath taking views of the forest and of Mount Kilimanjaro itself.Youll find yourself immersed in an enjoyable atmosphere with other people sharing their own unique traveling experiences and have a wonderful environment, and usually an audience, to share your own experiences, too. We highly recommend this lodge to anyone planning a trip to this area.
Fantastic hotel; great breakfasts beneath the mountain, clean rooms, and a gorgeous viewing platform. Have Thomas, the hotel manager, organize a walking tour through the village. The people are incredibly friendly. Highly recommended!
The place is so beautiful but we had very bad experience with someone i think he is the owner he was so rude & lied many time to us about the breakfast as we had to wake up very early!! He would say no its much better than telling lies

An incredible place overlooking Kilimonjaro! We were lucky to see the peak at sunset, and then also have breakfast on a wonderful terrace overlooking the mountain. This is just an unforgettable breakfast! Only for the sake of this you can stay in this wonderful place.The rooms are simple but tasteful, hot water and everything you need except toothbrushes.The restaurant is well prepared, the staff were very welcoming but very slow as in all of Tanzania.Of the minuses, these are stone paths on the territory, if you do not look at your feet, you can easily stumble.
Although there was no booking due to the tour operators mistakes, the managers of the Kaliwa Lodge picked me up from Arusha Airport in the middle of the night without any hesitation and gave me accommodation for the night. And only through their research and many phone calls I could start my planned journey. Despite the excitement I really enjoyed the short stay and the warm hospitality. Especially the terrace is a place of rest that invites you to linger. I would visit the lodge anytime again.
This lodge was an absolute dream and the view of Kilimanjaro was simply priceless. Super nice staff and management. Ill be back as soon as I can !!
