5 stars for friendliness, safety, nice service, good sitting outside or under the roof, cold beer, food.... a good place to visit in the neighborhood!AsanteNote:stupid muzungu women could feel getting cheated! 😂 Omg...I had a really modest, local bill.Asante sana sana 👃

Typical local place but... I am travelling for quite a long time and unfortunately didnt ask about price before order. 2 chicken quarters with chips ans some salad, one beer and one coke for 48700tsh. And I got the change after asking for that. I think that is not usually so expensive for locals just for Mzungu. Not fair.

Our best night in Moshi! Warm welcome, live music and delicious roast pork!Having spent 5 nights in Moshi in between safaris --like most tourists-- weve had some time to explore this lovely city with a centre altogether preserved from tourism. At first, feeling intimidated by the cultural difference, we played it safe for a few nights, sticking to whichever restaurants and bars had been recommended to us by our tour operator. Of course, while most places were recommendable, each time wed find ourselves surrounded by fellow tourists, getting a feeling of being stuck in only a small fraction of what the city has to offer. As time passed, we found the courage to dig a bit deeper and explore truly local places, some better than others, but all offering a much more realistic view of the towns life. And people were always friendly. Of all such places our favorite is Mama Philips, which we discovered simply by orienting by ear, trying to spot the loud music that was resonating through the whole neighborhood .Enclosed in a backyard at the end of a narrow passage between houses, we discovered this cosy bar where no one spoke english and yet where we received the warmest of welcomes. The owner swiftly offered us the best table, making sure that wed be as comfortable as possible; fellow customers, all locals, signified our welcome with broad smiles; the live musician --Casio keyboard and singing-- came by to ask our names and nationalities before dedicating all of his songs to us until we left; and, best of all weve been treated to delicious roast pork, one of our finest meals during this trip. All of this at a fraction of the price of restaurants that had otherwise been recommended to us. If, like us, youre looking to dig a bit deeper into Moshis cultural life, dont hesitate as people are usually very welcoming and kind. And Mama Philips should definitely be on your list!
