Unfortunately, no option to leave 0/5 stars for this hotel. What was meant to be a nice 5 night stay ended up being a two night stay and travelling to another part of Zanzibar instead to spend more of our hard earned money. We were very fortunate that we were driving and able to move about easier. It is a shame because the resort has the make up to be a nice isolated resort but for the cost of the resort it does not live up to the expectations. In addition to this, the host was unwelcoming and tried to swap our room thinking we would not notice the difference. When this was mentioned, she attempted to change it again before all of a sudden having the room we booked and PAID for prior to coming to resort. Food is much pricier compared to many of the resorts we were able to visit in Zanzibar, no water dispenser, bed and breakfast with very limited option (egg, bread and with no choice what fruit). We also noticed, something wrong with the front door lock and was told that it was okay, our belonging will be safe despite our front door not being secure. When discussing this with the host she became very dismissive. For our peace of mind and not wanting her to ruin our holiday, we felt it was best to move to another resort and no regrets regarding this. Positive: staff were lovely

Amazing location, lovely staff, great food!We just stayed for one night but the hotel was beautiful, we felt welcome from start to finish thanks to the lovely staff and the food was fantastic to boot. The location of the hotel is perfect, in a small bay by the sea where you can watch the sunset as well as go out in low tide and see all the starfish. I only wish we could have spent more time here

What’s not to like? The food is absolutely superb.., so much so I’ve started dining there on a weekly basis. The staff are very friendly and professional. The view is exceptional - even given Zanzibarian views. Pool 10/10. As for the villas outside showers... wow. Outstanding 😍

Plenty of time for R&R. Daily specials that are super tasty.Prices of food and grog, like everywhere around this part of the coast, are not cheap but the food portions are huge!Discovered a fantastic young gent who is a wonderful host, boat co-owner and taxi owner, called Morena. He literally made himself available or made a plan for any of the stunning attractions we wanted to see, at lower than average prices and never left anything to chance. His number is +255 777 200 422 and hes Im WhatsApp during the evenings generally from 5pm.The resort staff try their hardest always and are totally committed to making sure your stay is great. Show a little interest in their culture and youll make memories you cannot top.

Very comfortable hotel situated in a virgin nature of south Zanzibar. Amazing views, chilly vibes, very professional service, delicous food and nice staff. You can also discover beautiful islands all around, do some snorkeling or just enjoy the white beach and clear blue water. All what you need.

The resort is vintage and very private. The resort boasts numerous rooms and the staff is very professional. They cook amazing food and their Wifi is also decent. Its a good place to go with family. The beach is located literally next to the resort so weather is an early morning swim you seek or an amazing sunset over the horizon Karamba is the place for you.

Super nice place... Really well made resort with a very good sea view. The experience of the architecture and the landscape is also well thought of with many nice niches like a swinging bed facing the sea... you can also see the fishermen go out to sea if you wake up early and can get a good view of the sunrise... but pretty expensive at $100 per night. The rooms are cozy, with a decent bathroom.

Very bad. The worst hotel I have experienced. The staff was inattentive. And the Manager was rude and arrogant. It was very obvious that she had some favourites among the guest (especially the photographer that was there to take some fancy new pictures of the place). The room was like a prison and it doesnt looked like the pictures at all. Beside that, we had a dirty room that was full of ants. We had booked six night but after the first night we started looking for a new place to stay, unfortunately we had to stay two more days.

Our friends booked a family room at Karamba but had to leave because 1) The room wasnt ready when they arrived late in the afternoon, and 2) the rooms they did get were dirty. I really wanted to give this place a good rating because it has a fantastic pool and the restaurant serves delicious paella thats rare to find in the island. (But even the paella is overpriced at $60!)

Unfortunately i am unable to recommend this hotel.I was sorely disappointed staying here.Whilst the setting of the hotel was lovely.  The rooms we were shown/ stayed in were very poor quality.Upon arrival to the hotel, the owner saw us but did not greet us.. not quite sure why.. maybe because she is not used to having non white guests..Everyone else working at the hotel was fantastic.. just like the island residents..very warm and welcoming.Shortly after being shown to our room we made  known that we were disappointed with our allocation and requested an alternative room. We were shown a room where the bathroom was full of animal droppings and had to ask for that to be cleaned away. We waited all evening until 11pm and had to approach staff for communication regarding whether the new room was ready.  Not a great start. The next morning we noted that the door to our room did not lock. We had planned an excursion so we notified the hotel owner directly about the defected lock on our way out for the day (at approx 12pm). Upon our return at 8pm the door was still not fixed. Meaning our room with all our possessions were not safe - all day. When we reported our concern to the owner we were met with the insinuation that we had somehow damaged the lock  ourself(?!) We contacted booking.com to be released from our booking. They contacted the owner.. but she was not responding to their contact. We knew she was in her office- we sat in the main foyer while the door to our room was fixed. Her reluctance to speak to booking.com  appeared to be a direct obstruction to our being able to leave what was already a very sour situation. The straw that broke the camels back was when a storm hit. The low quality room was made even more apparent. All of our belongings were soaked through. Of note  the electric sockets in the walls were completely wet..a total safety hazard. That was when we decided to cut our losses and leave.Spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

Room and location beautiful. Unfortunately, everything there is extremely expensive. The food is very good, only the breakfast is terrible, the service does nothing at all. We waited 30 minutes for the coffee in the morning and all the waiters just walked around in circles, nobody said morning or brought breakfast. They had no plan how to work ...

It is on a beach away from the most touristic area. If you negotiate with the local fishermen, they set you up with seafood on the beach or take you snorkelling in a wooden boat. the resort is a bit dated but has an authentic feel to it and the food is spectacular.

A JEWEL IN ZANZIBARThe Karamba hotel is a sure hit !!!!We stayed in this wonderful hotel the first week of September with my family.I cant help but be grateful for such a great experience. The hotel is in a heavenly place with spectacular sea views that vary according to the tide.Right in front you have some corals that are one of the best on the entire island (and we went through it all) with starfish and spectacular fish. The owner Gemma was aware of us at all times and helped us look for excursions and that everything was perfect.Thank you so much Gemma for taking such good care of us !!!Totally recommendableAnd a couple of tips; The booties are very useful to be able to walk when the tide goes out and to dive.It is also advisable to bring some covered clothing (they are Muslims and they take this into consideration) in case you walk through the fishing village or do some more tourism.

A place as wonderful and welcoming as its staff. Family atmosphere, pleasant and relaxed, in harmony with nature and that of the place. A pleasure for the mind, body and soul. We wanted to check in at this hotel, since we hadnt paid in advance, we came to see. There was just a strong low tide, but they were ready for this after the east coast, but a pool is declared on the territory, which is in the photo in the review, but in fact there is no water in it, it is clear that it has not been functioning for a long time. And to sit in such a hotel without sea and water in the heat for 10 thousand for 1 night is stupid! We went to another hotel, where it is much cooler and cheaper

Negative: a little isolated from the village of Kizimkazi, you have to provide a means of transport if you want to move, but taxis are easily found.Positive: this isolation guarantees calm and the feeling of being alone in the world. The bungalows are well separated, each facing the sea. The area is large, not overcrowded. We had the privilege of being upgraded to the larger villa, it was a real dream. Spacious and comfortable, with private access to the sea, tastefully decorated in the local style, a change of scenery is guaranteed. For a honeymoon, this is a must! The staff are very pleasant and knowledgeable, efficient and unobtrusive. The meals are excellent (special mention to the ceviche), based on very well prepared fresh products. The prices are reasonable for the place. The establishment is run by a lover of nature and the region, you can feel her involvement in local life.

We stayed 1 night and we had left over. the resort is run down and run down. never better said in the third world. but the price of the European night. It has nice views and is on top of a cliff, the only positive. the place is very isolated and there is nothing in the area. Always have lunch and dinner at the resort at European prices. if you can avoid talking to the Spanish owner, it is better not to reason. We started talking and ended up angry. He told us geeks to our faces if we review his resort on the internet, 😲😲 hallucinate. we ran away. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

We wanted a Zanzibar village by the ocean, we got it. Everything was close: shrimp, exotic fruits, relaxing ganjubas for pennies, thanks to Ali, a fishing pier, a school, a millennial church, the most melodic Muslim speech of the Koran ... some dull Russians were also ... however, it does not matter. It is not urban comfort that is the advantage of this place. Time of stay January 2019.

It is a place that appreciates pole pole, knowing the local people, the staff and the tides. The basic, luxury-free African-style bungalows and even the muezzin that breaks every morning at 4am take second place when you tune into the calm that instills the place, after swimming off with the help of low tide between variegated corals and marine fauna or even better after a snorkeling excursion to nearby Pumguwe with the reliable Awali; After the excellent dinners consumed by the sea.

+ Beautiful place to relax.+ Super nice view from the terrace and from the pool+ The difference between ebb and flow is special to see.+ Customer friendliness is very good, very hospitable.- The food could be more varied, in the morning you get the same thing every day, there is no choice. In the afternoon and evening it is usually the same menu, including a lot of fish. They serve chicken.

Review №50

Terrible hotel, do not even know where to start ... perhaps with the price. $ 160 a day for this is simply unthinkable. 15-20 dollars red price! The rooms are terribly small with low ceilings. Stuffy, no air conditioning. Shower under the open sky, insects run. There is no safe. Wi-fi is only near the reception and that is very weak. Sun beds are small, everyone is busy, it is clear that old and dirty mattresses are on the sunbeds. There is no approach to the sea, only the public beach is nearby. In short, looking at all this beauty, we went to another hotel. So from us also they took 160 dollars for booking ((((
