What a beautiful ruins of bygone history. The complete city was submerged in the sea and slowly the excavated ruins are coming out. The great mosque with beautiful arches, restored Portuguese fort, spectacular palace ruins, tombs of sultans, fallen domes of the mosques, vanished city, ornamented ruins of rich rooms of the palaces, unique tomb pillars of Iran tribes, cool winds from water channels of Indian ocean and transient glory of rich city. Entry ticket for tourists is 27000 shillings which is little expensive along with compulsory guide charges starting from 15000 shillings. Boat charges from kilwa masako to island with waiting time of 3hrs starting from 15000 shillings.
Stunning architecture. The place, even though in a desolate state, has a great atmosphere. Best light in late afternoon. No tourists there, you have it for your own. Students from the nearby Islamic university are interesting to talk to. Believers are still taking their shoes of, even though it is not in use any more. Maybe it is a good idea to do the same to show your respect.
