A closest National Park from Dar es Salaam where you can see 4 out of big 5.... To maximise the experience, try to start game drive very early in the morning.....We were able to see Leopard in two occasions, which is very rare in this national park :)

Absolutely one of the best experience in my life. I travelled here by safari vehicles from Dar Es Salaam, and I have to admit, 6 hours travelling by car is really difficult, but as soon as you come into the National Park, when you see giraffe crossing the motorway, you forget all that journey. We were told by our guide that we were so lucky because we saw 4 lions, two male and two female. Its kinda difficult to spot them. Beside lions, we saw and made excellent pictures of elephants, giraffes, zepras, hippos, monkeys, birds, antilopes.....Tips:1. Bring a good camera(with good zoom, 30x will make nice pics, i made photos with that type of camera)2. Bring mosquito repellent.3. It is advisable to go to safari once in the evening and once in the morning, two drives (to choose that type of safari tour) because it is likely to see all of the animals in the National Park.4. Bring snacks, you might get hungry.

Must visit once in a lifetime place.6 hrs from dar e salaam but worthwhile. If going for one day then start journey at 0400 hrs and reach there by 1000 hrs and start your safari game drive by 1030 hrs.Charter planes service also available inside.Park also has a small canteen just near the main gate which sells merchandise and beverages (no tea available). They also offer free WiFi which is good for tourists. You can see Lion, giraffe, rhinoceros, elephant , wilder beast, Warthog, antelopes, deer, African buffalo, baboons and zebras (may be more if youre lucky).Depart from park by 1330 hrs and reach dar e salaam by 2030 hrs due to heavy traffic down the lane.

I was not happy with the amount of time we spent at the entrance reception. It took the staff nearly two hours to sort us out for us to pay to get in and there was not a lot of us at the reception. What took them so long to get us registered? First this long paper registrations. Then the problem with payments, slow imputing of information by staff and in then after waiting for so long there was a problem paying by card so eventually we ended up paying cash. As a visitor to the country I was put off by the slow registration and slow imputing on computer again. We wasted so much time by the gate by the reception that by the time we were allowed to enter the park we were already exhausted and didnt spend much time as we wanted to inside which by the way was a vast area to cover. We really appreciate the help of that guide who went with us. He made up for the lack at the reception and helped us all the way. God bless him.

The park has amenities inside. Getting in can be complicated, only cards accepted or dollars for foreigners, TZS only for locals? I recommend doing the safari on your own, especially if you want to take pictures, so you can drive in your own pace. Our tour was a bit rushed. Other than that, I recommend the park, its very big and good chances (if not guaranteed!) of seeing the top species.

If you are living in Dar Es Salaam or just close to Morogoro, Mikumi is the best chance to have a Safary experience. There are plenty of animals in the park specially birds, jirafa, elephants, cebras, impala, búfalo and also you can see lions.People from the park are very kind. You can order your food in the camping site restaurant just entering in the park at the right side. The place is wonderful and there are nice views of the animals resting around. The park itself is great, but I find it weird that you have to pay two times entry when you sleep in the park for two nights. So you stay there in the park and you dont enter the park again but if you stay there two nights you pay two times entry and thats weird. You do not enter it again or something in the time that you are in the park and sleeping there.
