The beach was awesome with great sunsets. Had a two twin bed room that was converted to a queen by combining the beds. Room was clean enough but the tiles were an off brown that made them look not so clean. The staff is very helpful, but like most islands things just tend to be slower. The food service takes a while but I appreciated it as it seemed everything was cooked when ordered. Overall a great experience with good management and staff.

Everything was clean and the grounds were nicely maintained. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and the food was good but the portions were huge. The management and staff were very nice and kind.I hope someone is looking out for the kitties on the property. 🐈The reason I gave 4* was due to the cash price being very high, I dont think it justifies that rate. You could get much better value somewhere else in Stone town or the northern part of the island.

Nice place with very nice view. Its historic at the same time modern. Its green everywhere. The pool is kinda small but ok. The view though earns 5 stars, very nice and clean beach. The staff is friendly had a great conversation with the bar tender. I also liked their food, was delicious and cocktails were not bad. I had chicken and fries and a mojito. I also had a glass of strawberry milkshake which was so yummy. Would definitely go back on my next trip to Zanzibar .

Its was a unique experience! The reception and the front of the hotel are the Mbweni Ruins and the rooms are at the back facing the ocean. Rooms are comfortable although there were power outages here and there for short periods of time. Staff are awesome. Friendly and very helpful. Food from breakfast to dinner was delicious. Will definitely visit this hotel again. Thank you for a wonderful stay in Zanzibar.

The place is in Mbweni at a 7 Minute drive from Town , Nearest Calm place to be near Town that doesnt only give a breath taking view of Indian Ocean but also provides a secluded beach Ideal for sun bathing and reading a Novel in the quite beech while enjoying the breeze, The place also has a policy of an entrance of about 13 USD pp for adults , later Meals and drinks can be charged from this , which I found it to be awesome, as it filters people and provides a privacy by itself, The food is quite excellent and the prices are really good, The staff are very friendly, The security guards at the entrance will want the money before you enter , I guess that can be negotiated better, you may use the pool If you enter although it is not that huge , it is advisable especially if you have Kids, The place has good parking and security , with WIFI available via tokens, The service at the Jetty can be a little slower as I have noticed the waiters lag in going there, One major come back to this place is mosquitoes at Night , although they do provide repellents , The sunset is usually amazing, Definitely a place to visit

This is probably the best hotel Ive ever stayed in! Its beautifully situated INSIDE the ruins. The rooms are lovely and spacious - immaculately clean. The grounds are gorgeous. And above all, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful - particularly manager Issa. He personally went above and beyond helping me with a special matter. Cant say enough good things. If Im ever back in Zanzibar - Ill be back to Protea!

At first glane looks very historic but beautiful. The actual rooms are mordern and welcoming. i loved my stay here, you get to have amazing choice buffet breakfast everyday, some mingle time with locals in the afternoon, and have super peaceful and quiet rest at night. Theres the all day safari to a nearby island from the hotel. Also is a ways away from stone town and I would not recommend the in house laundry though.

Boutique beach resort with a great restaurant and SPA. We stayed here five nights and were happy from the second our taxi stopped Infront of the ruins surrounding the property, giving it an ancient and authentic vibe. The hotel offers direct access to a wonderful beach, while being close to Stone Town. A complimentary shuttle runs three times a day (first one leaves 9.45).All in all we can recommend this to anyone looking for a bit of that Pole Pole vacation time!

My go to place whenever in Zanzibar. Outsiders can use their facilities at 25,000 per adult and 15,000 per child which isn’t bad as the coupon can be used to buy food and drinks. Mangroves are present at this hotel therefore don’t expect to have crystal clear water in the ocean.

I spent one night here and I regret not spending more time. What an experience to have stayed here. The welcoming at reception with the coconuts also at had me in tears cause I’m so dramatic 😭 the lady at reception walked us all the way to our room passing through beautiful gardens and scene. Our room was spacious with a perfect view from our balcony..we received fruit platter after check in an we hit the private beach...I got the best pics from this place. The general area is very quiet and peaceful..I would love to go back.

In general it was decent. Loved the idea of being able to stay among the historic ruins. Beach was nice, food was pretty good. A bit disappointed that breakfast was not included. Very disappointed about piss poor and basically unusable wifi.

A charming hotel 15 min away from Stone city. Beside being in an historical location, the hotel is made of small building integrated in the garden with all sea view. Rooms are all renovated and sufficiently spacious and comfortables. Finally, price are competitive, compensating for an average service.

Great 4 day stay! Air conditioned rooms, cable TV with a good selection of channels, mosquito nets, tucking in service with spray if desired. The included breakfast buffet has many options and the chefs even custom ordered a few dishes for our kids. Right on the beach with a long dock. Staff helped out when we had questions about the tours we had booked and were very ressourceful. Taxi arranged by hotel was a very reasonable $15 USD one way. Spa and boutique shop and order food right to your room! There is a swimming pool and a bar on the beach level with pool style reclining chairs and shade. A bar is also located on the upper level with the restaurant. Wifi was intermittent but worked mostly (better reception in certain areas). Lots to look and do right on site. Volleyball net, walk along the beach, front staff have a binder of activities they can help coordinate. The ruins are very unique and interesting to explore (adding another layer of depth)! Evening meals at the restaurant offer spectacular views of the sunset. Boating tours to the nearby islands available for an additional cost. If youre travelling to Zanzibar, Protea Hotel by Marriott is an excellent choice that is near the hotel and near Stonetown.

Hidden gem! I split my stay in Zanzibar between here and a hotel in stonetown and honestly I wish I stayed here for the entire trip. First it is right on the ocean, literally walk out your hotel and onto the sand. Second it’s a a great location to get to everything easily and cost effectively whether through taxi or excursion service. Third the staff is AMAZING from the front desk staff to the chefs, waitresses and waiters- everyone was phenomenal. Fourth they have a delicious restaurant on site with 360 views of ocean, sand, and palm trees. Fifth it is right in the middle of beautiful ruins that you can explore (for free as a guest) anytime. Sixth, the rooms are well appointed with everything you need including water bottles and they have mosquito nets on all the beds. They even provide a flashlight in your room for walking on the property at night, which is safe (they have security around) and just as beautiful at night. Because you are so remote you see the stars and cosmos so much better than in stonetown. I was in awe and humbled witnessing this one night. They have banquet space and a wedding reception was happening my first night so I even got to see how beautiful they can appoint the indoor/outdoor hall. My stay was amazing and I will always book here when I’m in Zanzibar! Plus they are part of Marriott hotels so you get points! 💖
