Oki. Here is the entrance (and exit) gate to the Serengeti park when coming from Arusha / Karatu. Its more than 2 hours drive from Karatu and from here, its still another hour (and a bit more) to the center of Serengeti (where public camps etc. are located). Before this gate, you will have seen the Lodoare Gate (few kms from Karatu) which is the entrance gate to the whole area. To come from Lodoare to this gate here, you will need to buy a transit passage, or an ascent /descent through the crater.If you wish to visit the Ndutu when coming from Serengeti (if you come from Lodoare, its different), its also at this place that you will buy the permit. Please note that the Ndutu is particularly confusing: no matter where you sleep, you will have to pay a camping fee (of ~70$ per night per person). No matter if you sleep in a lodge or in a special/private camp, thats the way it works there... Speaking of the Ndutu, there was NO migration in December 21 (due to lack of rain) and everything was dry, little of wild life to be seen (we saw one single gnu in the middle of the Ndutu lol - then few more at the border with the Serengeti...)

Naabi hill is one of the few mountainous protrusions in the Serengeti plains ... it also serves as an access point and very welcome toilet stop for the Serengeti national park. You can climb the hill and enjoy the views from the top. Also there is a small gift shop and a small restaurant. Even here some interesting wildlife can be observed such as the wonderful multi-colored lizards.

Perfect pit stop on safari. Toilets are clean and there is a little shop for drinks and snacks - bit expensive compared to other shops, but it is in the middle of nowhere! A little climb to the viewing point is a must- spectacular views over Serengeti.

Stop station with toilet, shops and place to eat. There are a lot of beautiful birds waiting for treat. There is a nice hill with excellent view. But overall feeling is so-so due to dirt and stench around.

The only place that has a while view of Serengeti endless plain and while up there on a hill I saw Agama Lizards roaming on the rocks. 😍

Fast and convenient. The rangers are very friendly as well. Theres also 2 curio shops and a small coffee shop with some of the best coffee this side of East Africa

Just the entrance to the park with some amenities in place for a short rest. A local shop is present for some refreshments. If the weather permits youll have a great view over the Serengeti plains. Toilets are also clean. Be sure to have a good rest since a bumpy road is still ahead.

Really encouraged to see active measures to help reduce waste and and promote recycling. Most tourists its eager to to comply. Shame there for that locals still seem to consider the ground as the most suitable waste receptacle. facilities are good although coffee shop could do with greater prominence. Very pleasant lady within was impressed that we bothered to try to find her!

This is the most popular entry gate to the Serengeti. Paying the entrance fee is a madhouse- you have to fight through all the guides. Once youve paid, theres a great trail that goes to the top of the nearby hill.

This is entry gate to the Great Serengeti, its located on a elevated Hill, tourist needs to take permits from here, a small trek up the hill is really worth, rewarding with a panoramic view of the endless Plains of serengeti, place also had the picnic spot where tourist can have their food. Also there is a souvenir shop with fairly good price, a coffee house and a grocery shop.

Guides can only pay entry fee on card but the card machines dont always work so there can be a long wait. On the plus side the facilities are reasonably clean and there are shops and a walk/view point to pass the time.

Its a good stop over spot and a gate to enter serengeti national park or Ngorongoro conservation area. It has main facilities--ATMs, small shopping and a good spot/picnic for lunch. The hill is also good for photography.

The main getway to the Serengeti National Park. At times the park entrance permits get tedious due to queues and low Internet signals. Though the service is good.

Mandatory stop. Very very high priced hot air balloon rides. About 3-4x what we were prepared to pay. Woodlands Karibu Tented Camp was very nice.

It is the Serengeti N.P and Ngorongoro C.A.A entrance and exit gate. There are restrooms, shops for souvenirs and drinks. Nice view of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro plains.

A pride of lions rests on a kopje, or rocky outcrop, near a favorite Serengeti water hole in the photo below. Lions use kopjes as havens and outlooks on the plains. When the rains bring green grass, wildebeests arrive in vast herds.
