We were staying at the same time as the poor review below. A really discreet hotel. Whilst the weather was not good, it was very warm, it gave us time to explore Stone Town and other aspects of Zanzibar, which we found fascinating on so many levels. Leigh and her staff did their best to make our stay memorable, the food was amazing as was the attention from all of the staff. The sun appeared towards the end of our stay and it really was very hot, we loved the hotel, completely understanding the layout with the pool and beach. Dinners were romantically arranged at different locations and they really could not have been more accommodating.
Came here for my honeymoon, worst place ever. As soon as I arrived with my wife we both wanted to leave this place. Lea we thought she was the manager doesn’t even know how to treat customers and staff. Just giving the whole place and time the worst impression. You can only use the beach for 2 hours depending on the time and the tides. Just a very ugly and badly maintained property. Would not recommend this place to anyone, not worth the time and the money spent here. Rooms and the whole property are very ugly, seriously not worth it at all.
Not sure where to start. The entrance to the hotel is a disaster, just a dirt road full of holes next to abandoned buildings giving you a ver bad impression. When arriving it appears to be a not very well maintained property. The manager just feels needs to learn more about customer service. Rooms where ok but giving you the impression they have not been used/low maintenance in the past years. Not sure if it’s because of covid but just did not like the property at all. All the gardens are a mess, dirt all over, plants not cleaned from old leaves. Would not recommend this place to anyone, not even worth one penny and it is pretty expensive. Both sides of the hotel are abandoned and have cloth hanging from people who took the place to live in. The beach it not nice at all.
I enjoyed the stay at Xanadu, very private property, our butler Lissu offerred exceptional service. A la carte menu designed by top chefs, fantastic wellness experience, would definitely come back.
Safe, private, great service, best food, beautiful beach.
Quite simply its the best of the best. From the personal welcomes to the emotional farewells. No details are missed. Charming butlers, exquisite food and hands down the most beautiful rooms on the island.
We rested in the Xanadu at the end of the December.I should say that it was our best seaside holiday! The hotel is beautiful. We had the opportunity to live in two different rooms, including a honeymoon sweet and both rooms are simply delicious. Special attention should be paid to the hotel restaurant. The chef was interested in every day preferences in the choice of food and a take all of them into account. Also you can buy products on the local market, and it will be clocked the way you want.If you get bored just lying on the beach, you can visit the spa or give preference to sports entertainment, such as a ride on the beach by bicycle or boating.we had the amazing opportunity to get acquainted with the hotels owners. Marcus and Olivia are wonderful people who have invested in the hotel is not only the means but also the soul.Thank you for the warm welcome, a wonderful holiday and your company! We will definitely return to Xanadu again. It is above all praise!
We spent ten glorious days at Xanadu. We travel much, and Xanadu was unquestionably one of the best holiday experiences we have ever had. The compact resort is more like a luxury home, energetically absent of any pretentiousness. The moment we arrived all the stress just melted away. It was great strolling on a stretch of beach that is not overbuilt with tourist hotels - we felt the beach was ours alone. And meals around the pool, sipping wine at sunset, just magical. The staff at Xanadu knows how to make sure you have everything you need without being intrusive. They were all so friendly and respectful of our space. The best part of Xanadu is her owners, Eileen and Marcus. They are real people, wonderful hosts with great stories. And one of their great stories is how they hand built Xanadu with a vision to create a place for guests to really experience what life is all about. We can recommend Xanadu with absolute certainty anyone fortunate enough to visit will wish they did not have to leave. Thanks Eileen and Marcus for a memorable experience!

Luxury Villas
Tastefully designed rooms complete with thoughtful amenities. Don’t forget to get their breakfast - their Shakshuka is the best. What I love the most is the friendly vibe of the space. Guests often just hangout on the dinner table, sharing their surf stories from the day.
Everything is beautiful except for the ocean. Hes on schedule. Very strong ebb. Thanks to Butleow Lis for organizing a romantic dinner last night
