Learning while earning, The Open University of Tanzania was established by an Act of Parliament No. 17 of 1992. The Act became operational on 1st March, 1993 by publication of Notice No. 55 in the official gazette. The First Chancellor was officially installed in a full ceremony on 19th January, 1994. Act No.17 of 1992 has now been replaced by the Open University of Tanzania Charter, effectively from January 1st, 2007, which is in line with the University Act No.7 of 2005.

Although its mode of studies is distance learning but nothing hinder students to accomplish their studies. I remember the first day I joined The Open University of Tanzania I thought it could be difficult to me to end up my first degree ‘’BACHELOR OF EDUCATION’’ My major subject is Education and minor is Geography in three year but when days goes on I approved that it is possible to study through this mode and in costs is cheep. Up to now I encouraged more than fifty people to join The Open university of Tanzania including my young brother also my fellow teachers.

The Open University of Tanzania gives opportunity to many who didnt get professional skills at either in their working places or even those who have employed themselves.
